Transmigrated into the Villainous Scummy Alpha in a Talent Show Novel - Chapter 69
Carrying the still unconscious An Zizi into the hospital, Lin Qi asked Xia Lian to borrow a wheelchair from the staff. Then, with visible urgency, she said, “Senior Xia, I’ll leave the rest to you. I need to head back to the dorm now.”
Not understanding why she was in such a hurry, Xia Lian nodded gratefully. “Alright, thank you for today.”
“No problem oh wait, actually, could you lend me twenty yuan? I need to take a taxi back.”
Taking a hundred-yuan bill from the generous Xia Lian, Lin Qi didn’t delay any further. She put on her mask and left the hospital. It was already past 1 a.m., and the streets were nearly empty. She sighed, hesitating whether she should just stay at a hotel outside for the night.
Her throat tightened as she recalled the strange tone in the voice on the phone earlier a faint, lingering sob that seemed to echo in her ears. Walking to the roadside, she spotted a taxi with its green light on.
“Young lady, working this late at the company?” the driver asked amiably after she gave the destination, assuming the closed-off camp was some corporate office.
Lin Qi, soothed by his friendly tone, relaxed slightly and smiled, though it was hidden behind her mask. “No, I live there. Could you drive a bit faster, please? Thank you.”
“Sure thing. Get back early, get some sleep. What were you doing alone outside the hospital so late? Family there?”
“No, no. A friend suddenly fainted, so I carried her to the hospital.”
“Is your friend okay?”
“Not sure. Her girlfriend is taking care of her now, so I’m heading back.”
“Right, it’s late. Don’t let the people who love you worry.”
The people who love her?
Her thoughts immediately turned to Jiang Ming. Despite her low emotional intelligence, Lin Qi had sensed something off in their phone call. After what had just happened, she couldn’t help feeling like the kind of heartless scoundrel who walks away without a second thought even if no fingers were involved.
Her mind wandered further astray. Shaking her head, she just hoped to reach the camp as soon as possible. It was already so late had Jiang Ming fallen asleep? Even if she had to wait outside the door all night, it would at least ease her mind a little.
“What’s wrong? Thinking about someone who loves you?” the driver’s voice pulled her back.
Embarrassed, she smiled and adjusted the bent part of her mask near the bridge of her nose. “Yeah, I miss her a little.”
“Ah, youth. My husband and I have been married for twenty years, and we don’t even exchange sweet nothings anymore.”
Husband?
Glancing at the rearview mirror, she saw the driver’s kind, cheerful face a middle-aged man, clearly warm-hearted. Lin Qi nodded. She still wasn’t quite used to this so-called ABO world. Maybe it was because she hadn’t differentiated yet, leaving her without a real grasp of these gender distinctions.
“Simple and steady sounds nice too,” she murmured, half in admiration, half in longing.
It was true. Her meeting with Jiang Ming had been something improbable, a fan and the heroine of a book. On the surface, the two seemed unlikely to even cross paths, let alone be together.
Turning to look out the window, she saw mostly darkness, with only scattered neon lights flickering here and there. The bright spots dotted her somewhat gloomy gaze. For some inexplicable reason, Lin Qi felt a pang of sadness. Even though she and Jiang Ming were together now, she always seemed to end up making her cry.
Even Lin Qi, who least wanted to see her cry, had become the culprit herself.
Could she really bring happiness to Jiang Ming?
Just a few days ago, the rumors between her and Xia Lian had angered Jiang Ming so much that she didn’t sleep all night. Her eyes were moist, her fair and translucent skin slightly dry, and her entire being exuded a deep sorrow as tears fell in large drops, shattering midair.
Lin Qi couldn’t quite describe her own emotions, they were too complicated. She thought of how Jiang Ming had buried her face against her neck, the damp warmth accompanied by a scorching heat that burned all the way to the depths of her left chest.
She was the one who feared Jiang Ming’s tears the most, yet she had repeatedly caused her distress and unease.
Words alone weren’t enough, actions were needed to prove sincerity. But trust was built over time, and she needed day after day of unwavering devotion to prove her unchanging heart. If there was even the slightest misstep, the sensitive and fragile little rabbit would retreat, perhaps to lick her wounds, perhaps to weigh the credibility of her words.
And today, by sheer accident, she had touched upon Jiang Ming’s most sensitive spot and experienced something profound, only to leave immediately afterward.
Even a one-night stand would involve some tenderness upon waking. How could their relationship be left to such a cold resolution?
Though she had a valid reason, An Zizi had fainted and needed to be taken to the hospital. It was late, and only an omega staff member was available. Given the gender difference, Lin Qi couldn’t very well let two omegas carry the tall alpha, so she had volunteered.
But the fact remained: she had touched Jiang Ming and then left right after.
Sometimes, the world was just like that. No matter how right you believed your choices to be, you’d still regret the alternatives.
“Miss, we’re here. This is the place, right?”
Her expression grave, Lin Qi glanced out the window at the familiar high-rises and nodded. Handing a hundred-yuan bill to the driver, she maintained her polite demeanor despite her inner turmoil. “Keep the change. I’m in a hurry to get back. Thank you.”
At this hour, the dormitory supervisor was already asleep, and the main door was locked. With no other options, Lin Qi thought of the bench that had once brought her and Jiang Ming closer. It seemed she’d be spending the night there.
Still worried about Jiang Ming, Lin Qi circled around the building, counting the windows to their dorm room. After three attempts, she realized something startling, the only room with its lights still on was theirs.
Half-doubting, half-nervous, and unwilling to sleep on the bench not to mention wanting to let Jiang Ming know she’d returned, Lin Qi stepped through the overgrown grass and lightly rapped on the window.
At first, there was no response. Afraid of startling her, Lin Qi softened her voice. “Nuo Nuo, it’s me. Lin Qi.”
Soon, the window opened. But instead of the red-eyed girl she’d imagined, the young woman before her had only a flushed, petite face, dressed in thin long-sleeved pajamas, looking serene and lovely.
“Why are you back?”
Lin Qi knew Jiang Ming well by now. Though there was a hint of pleasant surprise in her words, it was overshadowed by a trace of panic, as if some little secret was about to be uncovered.
The tears of worry she had anticipated never came. Lin Qi finally smiled happily, her eyes curving into crescents. “I came back to be with you.”
Once again, it was a reaction Jiang Ming hadn’t expected. She seemed somewhat pleased too, though she only pursed her lips into a faint smile. Her hands unconsciously tightened around the windowsill. “Why don’t you come in?”
“The dorm supervisor is asleep, Nuonuo. Can you press the door release button for me? I can’t get in.”
“Mm, okay.”
With that, Jiang Ming closed the window, seemingly shuffling out in slippers to open the door for her. Worried that Lin Qi might catch a chill from staying out too long after all, it was only late May, and the early morning air was still quite cool, Lin Qi hurried to the entrance, not wanting to keep the girl she liked waiting.
But in the end, it was Lin Qi who ended up waiting. Standing at the door, her initial eagerness gradually turned into impatience as she clung to the doorframe, sighing. Even if Jiang Ming had changed her clothes, surely that wouldn’t take this long?
Fortunately, after another two minutes, Jiang Ming finally arrived, albeit belatedly. Earlier, the dim lighting had made it hard to see clearly, but now Lin Qi noticed, why was this girl’s face so red??
Still in the throes of guilt, Lin Qi didn’t dare ask. She followed closely behind Jiang Ming, hesitating for a moment before finally speaking up to explain. “Um, today Senior Xia asked for my help. She wanted me to figure out whether Teacher An likes me or her. Before I could even help, I found Teacher An had fainted. But the staff who came was an omega, so I helped take Teacher An to the hospital.”
“Mm, I know.”
Her tone sounded normal, but Lin Qi was still afraid she might be hiding her true feelings. Her voice grew tense and slightly hoarse. “Nuonuo, Teacher An and Senior Xia definitely like each other. It has nothing to do with me.”
Jiang Ming nodded again, picking up on the unease in Lin Qi’s voice. She found it somewhat amusing. Crossing her arms, she turned around, her eyes sparkling with playful cunning. “Did you think I’d be that petty? I already know you’re not the same person as before. It wasn’t you who dated An Zizi, so don’t worry, I don’t care.”
The girl before her, with her picturesque features and a smile as clever as a fox yet as sincere as a little white rabbit, made Lin Qi’s throat tighten. Unsure, she asked, “Really? You’re not upset?”
“Really.”
“Then why were you so cold on the phone?”
“What phone call?”
“The one when I was in the car taking Teacher An to the hospital. I was explaining to you, and you just gave me a perfunctory ‘mm.’”
As she spoke, Lin Qi even managed to sound a little aggrieved, like a sad puppy, gazing pitifully at Jiang Ming. But she noticed Jiang Ming’s face growing increasingly red before she abruptly turned away, revealing ears that were also flushed crimson. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “I, I was looking at my phone and didn’t really hear what you said.”
How could Jiang Ming tell her that at the time, she had been searching on her phone for “why is there wetness down there,” and had accidentally clicked on a pop-up, stumbling upon some R18 literature that was, for the most part, understandable?
Her already soft voice, burdened with unbearable embarrassment, sounded almost tearful, though it was really just because she didn’t know what to say. Her face was so red she could barely think straight.
So it turned out she had been flustered by Lin Qi…
At the time, she thought she had lost control of her bladder, feeling both nervous and terrified. She hurried to the bathroom, desperate not to let Lin Qi find out. But after showering, she realized the fluid was different. Once the dorm was empty except for her, Jiang Ming opened a search engine.
Truthfully, her knowledge in this area was severely lacking. Suddenly confronted with a barrage of techniques she couldn’t even fathom, Jiang Ming knowing Lin Qi wouldn’t return that night naturally lay down on her bed, which carried the faint scent of wood. She couldn’t bring herself to look, yet she couldn’t stop absorbing this entirely new realm of knowledge.
Just as the heat in her lower abdomen flared up again, someone knocked on the window. Jiang Ming’s hands trembled so violently that her metal phone slipped and hit her face. Her eyes welled up slightly, tears spilling from the pain.
At first, she was frightened, but upon recognizing Lin Qi’s voice, she quickly wiped her tears and happily opened the window. Yet the moment she saw her, it dawned on her, she had just been reading things she shouldn’t have. Her already flushed face turned crimson in an instant.
As for why it took her so long to go out after closing the window, of course, it was because she had to tidy up Lin Qi’s bed and restore it to its original state. The search engine, its pages and history, she deleted everything in one go. Only after ensuring everything was in order did Jiang Ming nonchalantly plug in her charger and head to the dormitory entrance to open the door.
