- Chapter 107.1 - Qin Feiyan & Princess Changning Extra 7
Although Qin Guanghan had retired, Gu Yue, the current commander of the Imperial Guard Camp, was his most trusted former deputy. He was a confidant of the Empress but not of Princess Changning. Even though the Empress had given her the authority to manage the secret agents, the Princess had, out of prudence, sent her own people to secretly monitor his movements.
Furthermore, according to the intelligence she had gathered, the Imperial Daughter’s faction had already begun to contact Qin Guanghan.
Lying in bed, Qin Feiyan was recalling the time she had spent with Princess Changning over the last two days when she suddenly remembered the letter she had written home a few days ago.
Qin Feiyan was so shocked she leaped out of bed, the commotion so loud her secret guards almost thought an assassin had broken into her room.
What was she going to do?!
By the time calculation, that letter must be nearly delivered!
Should she write another letter back? No, it was probably already too late.
She and the Princess had just confessed their feelings for each other; she couldn’t let Yan Hua swap her out and send her back now.
Scratching her head and pacing around the room for several turns, Qin Feiyan couldn’t think of any good solution. She could only wait until Yan Hua arrived and then secretly send him back.
As for the promise she made to her mother, Yang Jinlan, to return and treat the White Maiden to a meal, if she couldn’t return, the meal naturally couldn’t happen.
After ten uneasy days, Qin Feiyan didn’t receive Yan Hua in Qingzhou; instead, she received a second letter from her mother.
Yang Jinlan asked how she was doing in Qingzhou. Why hadn’t she replied? Was she just fooling her when she said she was satisfied with the White Maiden? If she didn’t like the White Maiden, her mother had inquired about a few other young ladies over the past two days, and she detailed the circumstances of each.
After discussing the maidens, Yang Jinlan complained that Qin Guanghan had also gone out the day before, being secretive and not telling her where he was going. She strongly suspected the old coot was keeping a young mistress outside—always running out, even at his age.
After rambling about all the household matters, Yang Jinlan concluded the letter by telling her that Black Ear had died and the family had already buried him.
Black Ear was the little colt Qin Guanghan had gifted Qin Feiyan when she was five. He had been her companion for over ten years. Black Ear had been seriously ill recently, but the illness had improved before Qin Feiyan left for Qingzhou. She hadn’t expected it to worsen again.
Continuing the topic of Black Ear, Yang Jinlan mentioned her naughty childhood, sighed with emotion, and then complained that she and her father were never home, there were no grandchildren to liven up the house, leaving her, an old woman, lonely and pitiful.
This entire letter sent Qin Feiyan’s heart on a roller coaster, finally settling into a feeling of both tears and laughter.
Needless to say, the last sentence was the key focus of the entire letter.
Her mother had truly exhausted all her efforts to pressure her into marriage.
The loss of mail was common, so Qin Feiyan didn’t find it suspicious that Yang Jinlan hadn’t received her previous reply.
It was probably better that she hadn’t received it, saving her the trouble of explaining why she wasn’t going back after saying she would.
Qin Feiyan wrote a reply to Yang Jinlan, explaining that she had sent a letter last time, but it was probably lost in transit, which was why her mother hadn’t received it.
This time, she didn’t mention returning or the White Maiden. She only said that everything was well and asked her not to look at other young ladies, as she already had a person she liked. She promised to bring them home for her to see when she returned to Binhe County.
To prevent Yang Jinlan from worrying, Qin Feiyan wrote two identical letters and gave them to two different messengers to carry back.
Upon returning to the yamen (government office), Qin Feiyan was disheartened by the death of Black Ear. She was listless and had little appetite, stopping after only a few bites of dinner.
Princess Changning waved her hand, signaling A-Lǜ to clear the food. A-Lǜ was tactful enough to close the door on her way out.
“What’s wrong?” Princess Changning pulled Qin Feiyan to sit on the soft couch.
Qin Feiyan leaned her head against Princess Changning’s shoulder and told her about Black Ear, her voice sounding nasal towards the end.
Princess Changning had an excellent memory. She remembered when she first met Qin Feiyan, she was riding a magnificent chestnut horse with black ears.
“Don’t be sad,” Princess Changning said, tidying the stray hairs by her temples and tucking them behind her ear. “I’ll have someone find you another horse just like him.”
Princess Changning had been frail since childhood and was allergic to the fur of some small animals, so she had never kept a pet.
Although she didn’t quite understand why the death of a horse would make Qin Feiyan so sad, she didn’t want Qin Feiyan to be unhappy.
Qin Feiyan shook her head and muffled, “No. Even if it looks the same, it won’t be him.”
This made things difficult for Princess Changning, who was at a loss for how to console her. She could only wrap her arms around Qin Feiyan, stroking her hair as a form of comfort.
The embrace, filled with a sweet, fresh scent, seemed to possess a magical power, easily dispelling the sorrow in Qin Feiyan’s heart.
Lately, Princess Changning had been working in the yamen. Qin Feiyan couldn’t disturb her, but with nothing to do herself, she was getting quite bored.
Princess Changning was fully absorbed in reviewing the official documents in her hands when she subtly sensed someone watching her.
She looked up alertly and saw Qin Feiyan poking her head in from the outer room, gazing at her with burning eyes.
Princess Changning pursed her lips, trying to keep her tone calm, “Why are you being so secretive?”
In front of others, Qin Feiyan was highly skilled and very steady and composed, but when she was with the Princess, her conduct was less stable than that of her ten-year-old sister.
Qin Feiyan walked into the room smiling, leaned in, and whispered into her ear, “Are your secret guards nearby?”
Hearing her words, Princess Changning narrowed her eyes and asked, “What do you want to do?”
One day after dinner, while the two were strolling by the river, Qin Feiyan grabbed her, wanting a kiss. Princess Changning didn’t want to feed the mosquitos there and told her that the secret guards followed them outside, so she shouldn’t act recklessly.
Afterward, every time Qin Feiyan wanted to be intimate outside the room, she would ask, “Are the secret guards here?”
As a result, this phrase had automatically become an innuendo in Princess Changning’s ears, signaling Qin Feiyan’s desire for intimacy.
“Ah, it’s not what you’re thinking,” Qin Feiyan realized the ambiguity in her words and quickly waved her hand, explaining, “I was just a little bored and wanted to find them to spar a bit.”
This misunderstanding was truly great.
If she wanted to be intimate with the Princess, she would wait until the dead of night. Why would she do it in broad daylight?
Was she that shameless?
“Is your hand healed?” Princess Changning glanced at her shoulder.
The reason she was overthinking was entirely because of Qin Feiyan.
“It’s healed,” Qin Feiyan quickly nodded, raising her hand to show her, “It’s completely well.”
Princess Changning raised an eyebrow with suspicion.
“It’s really healed,” Qin Feiyan said cheerily. “Do you want to check it?”
“Even if it’s healed, no,” Princess Changning flatly refused. The secret guards were her subordinates, not Qin Feiyan’s tools for amusement. Besides, if Qin Feiyan was really bored, she should come to her. Why look for others?
“Alright.” Qin Feiyan drooped her head in disappointment and turned to leave.
“What are you going to do now?” Princess Changning grabbed her wrist, calling her back.
“Go outside,” Qin Feiyan asked, puzzled.
Princess Changning was busy with official business. How could she keep staying here and disturbing her?
“Tell A-Lǜ to prepare the carriage. We’ll go out in a moment,” Princess Changning squeezed her wrist and raised her eyebrow.
“Eh? Are we going out?” Qin Feiyan instantly brightened. “I’ll go find her now.”
Watching her quick steps as she left, Princess Changning’s lips curved into a smile. She rubbed her temples, then quickly lowered her head and resumed correcting the documents.
Qin Feiyan had a restless nature. She had noticed a few days ago that the other woman was starting to feel bored.
Having not been out for half a month, Qin Feiyan initially wanted to drive the carriage outside, but Princess Changning called her in with a single sentence. Qin Feiyan could only lift the curtain to look out, but the moment the carriage passed the alley entrance, the wind rushed in and made Princess Changning cough.
“Sorry, sorry,” Qin Feiyan quickly lowered the curtain and sat beside Princess Changning, patting her back.
“It’s nothing,” Princess Changning waved her hand. After catching her breath, she leaned into Qin Feiyan’s arms to rest.
With soft, fragrant warmth in her arms, Qin Feiyan no longer cared about the view outside. The hand patting the Princess’s back subconsciously slowed, naturally slipping down to her waist and gently encircling it.
She placed her other hand in front of Princess Changning, taking hold of her hand.
The sweet, clean scent lingered at her nose, and Qin Feiyan’s heart started beating faster.
Princess Changning had been very busy recently, often falling asleep while talking to her late at night. Qin Feiyan was reluctant to bother her, and they hadn’t been intimate for a long time.
“Feiyan, why has your heart started beating so fast all of a sudden?”
Princess Changning lifted her head from Qin Feiyan’s embrace and looked at her playfully.
Qin Feiyan didn’t speak but directly scooped her onto her lap, answering her question with practical action. She didn’t let go until she sensed that the Princess’s heartbeat was keeping the same pace as hers.
Embarrassed and annoyed, Princess Changning pinched her face to vent her frustration, then sat back down on the soft cushion, leaning against her to rest.
The carriage traveled for a long time without stopping. By the distance, it seemed they had left the city. Qin Feiyan wanted to ask where they were going, but when she lowered her head, she saw that Princess Changning was already asleep. Looking closely, she could even see a slight dark smudge beneath her eyelashes (a sign of exhaustion).
The carriage jolted gently. Princess Changning’s eyelids fluttered, and Qin Feiyan shifted her shoulder slightly to make her more comfortable.
After another half an hour, the carriage slowly came to a stop, and Princess Changning finally woke up.
“Are we there?” Her voice carried a soft, sleepy nasal tone.
“You never told me where we were going, so how would I know if we’re there?” Qin Feiyan smiled as she drew back the curtain.
Outside the window was a spacious grassland, and not far away, a herd of horses was leisurely grazing.
“Is this the stable in the west of the city?” Qin Feiyan asked in surprise.
“Mhm,” Princess Changning straightened her posture, adjusted her clothes, and smiled. “Aren’t you going to take a look?”
“Did you plan this earlier?” Qin Feiyan was not stupid and immediately understood that this trip was specially arranged to bring her to the stable.
Qin Feiyan happily moved to kiss Princess Changning, but the Princess glanced at her in a chiding way. Qin Feiyan changed her action to a low chuckle, then pulled her out of the carriage.
Shortly after they entered the stable, the groom led a magnificent, completely black horse out of the shed.
Before the horse even got close, Qin Feiyan exclaimed from a distance, “What a fine horse!”
“As long as you like it,” Princess Changning said with a faint smile.
Hearing the implication in her words, Qin Feiyan looked at her in surprise, “Is it for me?”
She was quite smart this time.
Princess Changning raised her eyes slightly, confirming her guess.
Her eyes instantly lit up. Qin Feiyan joyfully started to lift her up, but Princess Changning coughed lightly, preemptively stopping her.
Qin Feiyan could only move closer to her, bowing her head and saying, “Thank you, Qingning.”
Si Qingning was Princess Changning’s given name. Qin Feiyan felt calling her “Princess” wasn’t intimate enough, so she called her this in private. She had originally wanted to call her “Qingqing,” but the Princess found it too saccharine and rejected it.
“Hurry up and look at the horse.”
In broad daylight, Princess Changning didn’t want to lose her composure.
“I’m going now.” Qin Feiyan understood her nature and thought she would thank her properly when no one was around later.
The horse’s coat was black and glossy, its four legs long and muscles powerful, striding proudly and majestically.
