Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Wealthy CEO's Fiancé For A Marriage Of Convenience - Chapter 10
Jiang Wu lived a life of ease at the Shen residence, where he was well-fed and well-cared for. When bored, he would watch movies in the home theater, swim in the pool, or play games and read manga. In short, every day was fulfilling. As for his earlier intention to attend university, that thought was completely abandoned once he learned that university life meant 8:00 AM classes. Waking up at seven was impossible for him; he could not even make it to the Shen family’s eight o’clock breakfast, let alone get up that early for classes that held no use for him.
He had lived at the Shen residence for nearly a month, during which he fully experienced just how busy Shen Yifeng was. He left early and returned late every day, and Jiang Wu saw him only a handful of times. By the time Jiang Wu woke up, Shen Yifeng had already left for work; he never returned for lunch, and even when he occasionally made it home for dinner, he would head straight to the study upstairs to work immediately after eating. Jiang Wu had never seen anyone so passionate about their work.
However, Jiang Wu lived quite comfortably and at ease. To be honest, he felt that his time at Shen Yifeng’s house, aside from the lack of parental company, was even more enjoyable than his past life. In his previous life, health issues prevented him from enjoying gourmet food, but this body was perfectly healthy. Coupled with Auntie Chen’s cooking, which rivaled that of a five-star chef, he felt he had gained a bit of weight.
Moreover, Uncle Liu and Auntie Chen treated him exceptionally well. Because he could not get up for breakfast, Auntie Chen would specially set aside a portion for him, and every day when he woke up, Uncle Liu would help him heat it up in the microwave. At first, he felt very embarrassed, but he truly could not wake up early. Over time, his skin grew thicker.
Because he had spent the previous day gardening with Uncle Liu, Jiang Wu went to bed earlier than usual. As a result, when he woke up this morning, it was only a little past seven. Feeling his empty stomach, he realized he was hungry. Usually, he would have a late-night snack after dinner, as he slept in the next day and the Shen family’s dinner was served quite early at 5:30 PM. But yesterday, he had been too tired and fell asleep without a snack. Upon waking, his stomach was growling.
He washed up quickly, threw on a T-shirt and shorts, slipped into his slippers, and dashed downstairs, intent on having breakfast. Perhaps because he had not seen Shen Yifeng in the house for a long time, he paused for a moment of daze when he unexpectedly saw him sitting at the dining table.
He quickly adjusted his expression, put on a bright smile, and greeted him. “Good morning!”
Jiang Wu was wearing a matching pink T-shirt and shorts set, which made his exposed skin look even fairer and more tender. His fair, exquisite face was flushed from his recent dash, and a few stray hairs from his unstyled head made him look lively and adorable. His eyes curved, his red lips parted to show white, even teeth, practically personifying the image of a handsome, youthful boy.
Shen Yifeng glanced at him, his face still devoid of expression, and uttered a faint “Mm.”
Against the pink T-shirt, Jiang Wu’s fair skin made Shen Yifeng feel that he looked like a ripe peach, radiating a fresh, sweet scent. Jiang Wu did not mind Shen Yifeng’s reaction; having lived together for so long, he understood his character fairly well. He found a seat and sat down, staring straight at the kitchen.
His large, moist eyes were filled with anticipation. Paired with his slightly messy hair, he looked like a little puppy waiting to be fed, which was incredibly endearing. When Uncle Liu brought the meal out and saw Jiang Wu looking like that, his heart skipped a beat; he wanted nothing more than to give Jiang Wu the breakfast he had prepared for Shen Yifeng. Unfortunately, he did not dare.
He suddenly remembered that since Jiang Wu had never woken up at this hour, Auntie Chen had only prepared one serving, Shen Yifeng’s breakfast. He and Auntie Chen had already eaten their own breakfast earlier. Uncle Liu was in a bind, especially watching Jiang Wu’s expression, which suggested he was practically drooling.
Uncle Liu placed the breakfast in front of Shen Yifeng and weighed his tone carefully. “Little Jiang, I am truly sorry. Your portion has not been prepared yet.”
Regarding Uncle Liu’s form of address, Jiang Wu felt that they treated him like an elder, and being called Young Master Jiang sounded strange, so he had asked them to change it. Jiang Wu’s eyes dimmed at the news. He had forgotten that Shen Yifeng’s household, while wealthy, held a virtue of frugality. His breakfast was always simple: eggs, milk, a sandwich, just enough for him to finish. Still, he could not help feeling disappointed; he had been looking forward to this breakfast the moment he woke up.
“It is fine, it is my fault. Actually, I am not that hungry,” Jiang Wu said in consolation. “I can wait.”
However, his statement would have been more convincing if his eyes were not glued to the food in front of Shen Yifeng. Jiang Wu looked at the sandwich on Shen Yifeng’s plate and swallowed hard. That was made by Auntie Chen; even if it was just a simple sandwich, it was incredibly delicious and held great temptation for someone with an empty stomach.
Shen Yifeng looked up and saw Jiang Wu’s small Adam’s apple bob as he stared longingly at the sandwich, like a little glutton. Seeing Jiang Wu stare, Jiang Wu realized his behavior might be considered rude. He forced himself to look away from the sandwich and toward the kitchen.
Finding his struggle and forced composure amusing, Shen Yifeng pushed the tray toward him. Jiang Wu noticed the movement, looked back, and saw the breakfast sitting in front of him. He looked at Shen Yifeng in confusion. Shen Yifeng stood up expressionlessly, glanced at the time, and said coldly, “I do not have time. Eat it; do not waste it.”
Without waiting for a reply, he strode out. Jiang Wu was dazed. Watching Shen Yifeng’s retreating back and then the sandwich in front of him, he recalled Shen Yifeng’s words and thought to himself: Does a boss have to clock in for work, too?
Uncle Liu was equally confused. He checked the clock on the wall; it was only 8:10 AM. Usually, the Young Master did not leave until 8:30 AM. Could there be an emergency at the company today?
After Shen Yifeng left the house, the driver, who had been squatting to eat a bun, froze upon seeing him. Is it already 8:30? He checked his watch. That is not right. Is the watch broken? Before he could figure out if the watch was faulty, Shen Yifeng had already walked over. He quickly stuffed the unfinished bun into his pocket, wiped his mouth, and stepped forward to open the door.
Jiang Wu and Uncle Liu were left baffled by Shen Yifeng’s behavior. The two stared at each other for a long moment. Eventually, Jiang Wu let out a whisper: “It seems Mr. Shen is truly very busy.”
Uncle Liu nodded in agreement.
Jiang Wu finally got to eat the sandwich. With the first bite, his face filled with enjoyment and satisfaction.
