- Chapter 1 - Transmigrated into a Book
City B.
In a luxurious VIP private room at the hospital, a young man with thick gauze wrapped around his head lay in the hospital bed, his head tilted as he stared blankly out the window.
The young man was incredibly beautiful. His face was the size of a palm, his skin was fair and delicate, his light pink lips were soft and supple, and his nose was small and exquisite. His apricot-shaped eyes were like clear springs, moist and sparkling, making anyone who looked at him feel a sense of joy. As he watched, he let out a sigh. He turned his head to stare at the ceiling for a while before closing his eyes again.
Jiang Wu sighed for the Nth time that day, feeling incredibly depressed. He had actually encountered the legendary trope of transmigrating into a book. Thinking of the plot within the novel, Jiang Wu sighed once more.
The novel he had transmigrated into was a harem-style story where the heroine was beloved by everyone, and he was one of her many pursuers. However, he was neither the devoted second male lead nor the tragic, unrequited villain. He was just a small cannon fodder character who was blinded by lust. His current injury was a result of his own stupidity; thinking that since he could not win the heroine’s heart, he would at least win her body, he had tried to drug her. But the male lead had seen through his scheme and had his men beat him up.
Jiang Wu closed his eyes, struggling to recall the plot. He had never actually read the novel; he had only heard about it from his little cousin. No matter how hard he tried to remember, he could not recall what happened to the original owner in the end. Thinking about it gave him a headache, so he ultimately decided to stay far away from the male lead, the female lead, and the plot itself.
Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door. He opened his eyes and remained silent; the person delivering his food had arrived. Sure enough, the next second, a young man in a black suit, holding an insulated lunch box, walked in.
“Young Master Jiang.” The man greeted the youth with a bow, as he did every day, then walked to the table at the side and laid out the contents of the lunch box. After setting everything up, the young man turned and said respectfully, “Young Master Jiang, your meal is ready.” With that, he turned and left.
Jiang Wu got out of bed, a routine he was now accustomed to, walked to the table, and began to eat. He had been here for half a month. In these two weeks, no one had come to visit him, nor had anyone called him. Only this man came every morning, noon, and evening to bring him food; otherwise, there were only the nurses and doctors. Based on the original owner’s memories, he had not told his family when he got injured. The original Jiang Wu was not from City B; he was from City A.
As usual, after finishing his meal, Jiang Wu returned to his hospital bed. He took out his phone to play a small game, but before he could play for long, he saw an incoming call. Jiang Wu stared at the caller ID in a daze; this was the first phone call he had received since coming here. He slid the screen to answer. “Hello?”
The person on the other end did not speak. Jiang Wu thought they might have dialed the wrong number and was about to hang up when a furious voice erupted from the phone: “Jiang Wu! You do not even know how to call me Dad anymore, do you! I think you…”
Hearing this, the original owner’s father’s appearance and voice immediately surfaced in Jiang Wu’s mind. He stepped in to explain: “I am sorry, Dad. My previous phone broke, and the new one does not have the contacts saved.”
That was not a lie; the original owner’s phone had been smashed, and the one he was using now was newly purchased. Hearing Jiang Wu’s explanation, the person on the other end paused, and the furious tone softened slightly. “When are you coming back?”
Before Jiang Wu could answer, the voice continued: “You have been out there acting wild for half a year already. Are you not planning to come home at all?”
“I am coming back. I will return in the next two days.”
The original owner’s body had mostly recovered anyway. Since he had already decided to stay away from the plot, he might as well take this opportunity to go home. The person on the other end did not expect Jiang Wu to be so obedient. The words they had prepared to persuade him were cut short, and their tone turned somewhat concerned: “Jiang Jiang, have you been wronged out there?”
Coincidentally, Jiang Wu’s family in his original world also called him Jiang Jiang. Because he had been frail and sickly since childhood and spent most of his time in hospitals, his family had always held him in their hands and cherished him. Hearing this familiar tone and nickname, Jiang Wu felt a sudden ache in his nose.
“No, I just missed home.” Jiang Wu took a deep breath, suppressing the sourness.
Seeing this, the person on the phone did not press further, knowing his son’s usual arrogant and domineering nature. “I will tell you something when you get back.”
Jiang Wu wanted to ask what it was, but he heard someone speaking on the other end of the line. “Little Treasure, Dad has things to attend to, so I will stop here. Come back as soon as you can.” Having said that, they hung up the phone.
Jiang Wu listened to the dial tone, slowly took the phone away from his ear, and then opened his game to continue playing. By evening, the person delivering the food came in just like at noon, setting out the meal. Before the man could leave, Jiang Wu called out to him, “Wait a moment.”
The man paused, turned, and looked at Jiang Wu. “Is something the matter, Young Master Jiang?”
“I am mostly recovered. I will handle the discharge procedures tomorrow, so you do not need to come anymore,” Jiang Wu said. The man did not react much upon hearing this. “Understood.” He then turned and left.
After completing the discharge procedures, Jiang Wu took his meager belongings and headed to the airport. City A was a long way from City B. The original owner had originally run away from home after an argument, and after meeting the heroine in City B, he had fallen hopelessly in love with her and stayed there. He had bought a house there, which was very close to the heroine’s home, in the same residential compound. To avoid any unnecessary trouble, Jiang Wu thought about it and ultimately decided not to return there. After leaving the hospital, he went straight to the airport.
He had been in City B for over half a year, spending almost every day revolving around the heroine, so he had not made any friends here. The young man who brought him food at the hospital was someone he had hired with money. Before boarding the plane, Jiang Wu called Jiang Nanming, his father, to tell him what time his flight was.
His head injury had not fully healed, but he no longer needed the gauze. After taking it off, he realized that not only was the original owner’s appearance exactly the same as his own, but the naturally curly hair was identical too. It must be fate, Jiang Wu could not help but think.
But since he was here, he would make the best of it. He had died on the operating table; thinking about how his family must have been heartbroken, his chest felt tight, though he was thankful that he was not their only child. Soon, the plane arrived at its destination. Jiang Wu stepped off the plane and saw his father’s secretary waiting for him.
