Transmigrated Into The Arms Of The Heroine Of A Sadistic Novel - Chapter 74
After soothing the little girl, Lin Yanyu said, “Based on the memories Senior Feng Funing left behind, I roughly know what we should do next.”
Qin Changxin didn’t interrupt she simply waited quietly and attentively for her to go on.
“Lianzhou’s situation is rather complicated,” Lin Yanyu explained. “It’s the only state in the human realm still ruled by an ancient royal bloodline. Yun Quexin is the princess of the Yun family and the only daughter of the current monarch of Lianzhou. She’s spoiled, headstrong, and always gets her way. Threats or bribes are useless on her. So, to stop her from helping Xiao Xianyi activate the Face-Preserving Formation, we’ll have to find something even more tempting a beauty preserving artifact and offer it to her early.”
“There are plenty of recipes for beauty elixirs in the demon realm,” Lin Yanyu continued, recalling the gossip Feng Funing had shared about the demon lord. “I’ll ask my mother for one. Once that’s settled and the princess of Lianzhou is dealt with, the next step will be to dismantle the Face-Preserving Formation, rescue the cat demon being used as a sacrifice, and then capture either Yang Hengyu or Xiao Xianyi.”
“Capture them last…” Qin Changxin murmured. “So you mean Xiao Xianyi’s power has already grown so strong that even a Silver Althea rank exorcist should fear him?”
“Not exactly,” Lin Yanyu clarified. “Rescuing the hostage first is just to minimize casualties. But of course, if we can subdue Xiao Xianyi right away, that would be the best outcome.”
She summoned a blank talisman paper, drew a sigil, and handed it to Qin Changxin. “If it’s Yang Hengyu who comes, this talisman can force out Xiao Xianyi’s inner energy. If Xiao himself shows up, it’ll bind his inner energy and disrupt his recovery.”
Qin Changxin’s eyes flickered. “Last time, Yang Hengyu used some kind of spirit blood to stay alive and uninjured for three hours. Does Xiao Xianyi still have any left?”
“According to Senior Feng Funing’s memories, that was the last vial and it was single use,” Lin Yanyu replied. “Now Yang Hengyu only borrows Xiao Xianyi’s energy to enhance her body’s toughness and healing rate. She can already be defeated by ordinary means.”
Qin Changxin nodded and studied the talisman carefully.
“Before we leave the demon realm, we should draw as many of these as we can,” she said. “Besides this, are there any other charms?”
“There are also incantations,” Lin Yanyu said. “Since your inner energy is water-aligned, it can restrain them. I’ll teach you the water-element spell formulas I learned from Senior Feng Funing’s memories.”
Teaching spells wasn’t something one did in the bedchamber, so Lin Yanyu took Qin Changxin to find Xuan Qing, hoping to borrow her study.
But just as they reached the demon lord’s chambers, Mei Linghan stopped them.
“What brings you two here?” she asked. After Lin Yanyu explained, Mei Linghan personally led them to the study.
Once seated, Lin Yanyu glanced toward the door and couldn’t help asking, “How is Mother?”
“The demon lord is fine just doesn’t wish to see anyone for now,” Mei Linghan replied with a smile.
Which, of course, meant she wasn’t fine.
Lin Yanyu glanced at the finger where her Silver Althea mark rested and felt a pang of sympathy for Xuan Qing.
But since she and Feng Funing had already exchanged their secrets, and keeping this from the demon lord was indeed safer for now, she had no choice but to help conceal it.
After thanking Mei Linghan, Lin Yanyu closed the door, looked around the study, and quickly gathered what she needed for teaching.
“First I’ll teach you how to draw the talisman, then the incantation,” Lin Yanyu said as she picked up a cinnabar brush and began to draw. “I’m not sure how exorcists here are usually trained, so I’ll teach in my own way. If anything’s unclear, just ask no need to treat me like some solemn master.”
Qin Changxin nodded, stood behind her to watch for a while, then picked up a brush and followed along.
Lin Yanyu, capable of multitasking, watched the girl’s movements even as she drew her own symbols.
She noticed that the girl’s strokes were smooth and sure no hesitation, no fumbling. Perhaps she practiced often.
Having such a talented “student” made teaching effortless for Lin Yanyu. Still, she carefully repeated every detail Feng Funing had once emphasized, and Qin Changxin committed them all to memory.
By the time dusk arrived, Lin Yanyu had finished teaching the most practical charms and spells. As she tidied up the materials, she absentmindedly asked, “Any other questions for the teacher?”
Qin Changxin froze for a second no one, not even her master or the elders, had ever asked her that before. Then she smiled. “No, teacher taught perfectly. I’ve learned everything.”
“Ah… good, that’s good,” Lin Yanyu blinked in surprise, then smiled warmly. “I must say, you’re the most quick witted exorcist I’ve ever taught.”
A faint blush rose to Qin Changxin’s cheeks. Instead of her usual modesty, she replied happily, “Thank you for the praise, teacher.”
Seeing her bright smile, Lin Yanyu felt that mere praise wasn’t enough. So she transformed into a black cat, leapt onto the desk, rolled onto her back, and showed her belly, meowing invitingly.
Qin Changxin laughed and began to rub the cat’s belly. Then she produced a silvervine stick from somewhere and held it to the cat’s mouth.
Lin Yanyu sniffed it, her eyes lighting up, and immediately snatched it between her teeth.
Since arriving in this world, she hadn’t come across any silvervine or catnip. She’d thought such intoxicating things didn’t exist here.
The stick was wrapped in a thin layer of cloth to prevent it from spilling powder if bitten. But Lin Yanyu didn’t smell any trace of other cats on it was freshly made. That made her all the more delighted as she gnawed at it.
Though Lin Yanyu prided herself on self-control, she was no match for silvervine’s effects.
Cats that consumed it usually became either hyperactive or dazed like they were drunk. Lin Yanyu was clearly the former. After chewing for a bit, she started rolling across the desk, meowing wildly. When Qin Changxin reached out, the cat clung to her hand with all four paws and gave her fingers a playful bite.
She was so excited she didn’t know her own strength. Caught off guard, Qin Changxin let out a small gasp and lightly tapped the cat on the head. “Stop that!”
The black cat obediently let go, twisted into a strange position, waved her paws at the air, then retracted her claws and used her soft pads to pat at Qin Changxin’s palm.
Seeing her in such a blissful daze, Qin Changxin sighed, put the silvervine away, picked up the cat, and placed her on the soft cushion in the study. She channeled a bit of spiritual energy into her, helping her transform back into human form.
Lin Yanyu sleepily noticed that her vision had changed but didn’t realize she had turned back. When Qin Changxin extended a hand, Lin Yanyu instinctively hugged it, resting her head on it, eyes half-closed in contentment.
Qin Changxin brushed her ear with her fingertips, traced the curve of her cheek, and soon heard Lin Yanyu’s breathing deepen she had fallen fast asleep.
She hadn’t expected the cat to fall asleep so easily after silvervine. Qin Changxin was momentarily speechless. She tried to move her, but Lin Yanyu held her too tightly, and she couldn’t wake her up. Laughing helplessly, she finally leaned back against Lin Yanyu and closed her eyes as well.
When Mei Linghan came in later with tea and snacks, she found the two of them curled up together on the cushion, fast asleep.
Their days in the demon realm were, indeed, utterly carefree.
If not for the fact that Xiao Xianyi still roamed free, both Lin Yanyu and Qin Changxin would have gladly stayed there forever.
Lin Yanyu actually wanted to leave the demon realm soon and go to Lianzhou to capture Xiao Xianyi, but Feng Funing wouldn’t allow it. Every night when Lin Yanyu fell asleep, she was pulled into dream-training by Feng Funing’s image.
Feng Funing’s exact words were: “You’re not leaving the demon realm until you meet my standards.”
Fortunately, Lin Yanyu was used to such intense training before she transmigrated. The mother and daughter one teaching, one learning worked together so well that Lin Yanyu soon exceeded the planned pace. Awake again, she’d teach everything she’d learned to Qin Changxin, word for word.
Seeing her improve so quickly, Qin Changxin began to think about recovering her lost memories.
One day, she brought this up to Lin Yanyu and Feng Mingchi.
“I want to retrieve the rest of my memories,” she admitted. “But I don’t know what kind of person I’ll become after that.”
Lin Yanyu wasn’t surprised Qin had hinted at this before. She patted her shoulder encouragingly. “If that’s what you want, then do it. I’ll be here to remind you of who you are.”
Feng Mingchi, however, refused firmly, frowning. “Don’t let yourself be trapped by a past that’s already over! No matter what, this life is nothing like your last. With your nature, you’ll follow your past memories too rigidly preparing for every risk.”
He paused for effect, watching Qin Changxin fall silent before continuing, “But don’t forget ‘Blood Panther’ also carries two lifetimes of memories. He’s not only skilled at countering every move but also adept at exploiting others’ weaknesses. You’ve already crossed paths once; he knows your temperament and vulnerabilities. Don’t become his pawn!”
Qin Changxin understood. Both Lin Yanyu’s encouragement and Feng Mingchi’s warning came from care and trust. After some thought, she nodded. “I understand, Senior. But if my missing memories prevent me from helping Yanyu to my full ability, I’ll regret it deeply afterward… Please, let me do this.”
“Ah, you… always so stubborn when you shouldn’t be,” Feng Mingchi sighed. Seeing both girls’ pleading eyes, he finally relented. He took off the Blood Soaked White Jade pendant, placed it on the table, and left with a swish of his sleeve.
Qin Changxin picked up the jade, holding it tightly in her palm. She looked up at Lin Yanyu.
“My birthday’s coming soon,” she said softly. “I think… I’ll wait until after we celebrate together to reclaim my memories.”
