- Chapter 30 - Girl’s Fantasy
Lin Yanyu actually didn’t have much experience taking care of drunk people. When she or her colleagues got drunk, they usually just meditated to dissolve the effects. She had never been in a situation like this completely unprepared like a clueless young girl.
Her internal energy was of the fire element, which meant she couldn’t use water-element spells to sober up Tan Changxin. Feng Xianchen’s energy, on the other hand, was of a cold nature and she also had no experience dealing with drunkenness. So, the responsibility of sobering Tan Changxin up fell to Zhuang Jingwei.
Zhuang Jingwei summoned several packets of medicinal powder, taking only a small pinch from each to mix into water. She handed the concoction to Lin Yanyu and said, “Have her drink all of this. She won’t feel as awful when she wakes up in the morning.”
Lin Yanyu held the medicine bowl and went to feed her, only to discover that Tan Changxin’s lips were tightly pressed together and her jaw clenched. No matter how she tried pinching her cheeks or prying her mouth open she couldn’t get the medicine in.
Lin Yanyu used her spiritual energy to suspend the liquid in the air, attempting to feed it to her bit by bit. But Tan Changxin gagged from the bitterness. Lin tried to seize the moment to feed her more, but feared she might choke on it and aspirate it into her lungs.
After several failed attempts, Lin Yanyu stood there holding the bowl in silence.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t considered feeding the medicine mouth to mouth… But would such a cliché method actually work? What if she ended up kissing her instead of getting the medicine in? Or worse what if she got puked on?
“I can’t feed it to her,” she finally gave up and went to complain to Zhuang Jingwei. Surely the calm and collected senior sister would come up with something more reliable.
Feng Xianchen and Zhuang Jingwei were both waiting in the meditation room. After hearing Lin Yanyu’s account, they fell silent.
“Then just leave her be,” Zhuang Jingwei finally said after a long pause. “Changxin’s cultivation is strong. One night drunk won’t hurt her.”
Feng Xianchen nodded in agreement.
“What if I try waking her to drink the medicine?” Lin Yanyu, unwilling to give up, suggested.
“She’d feel worse if you woke her. The medicine would likely make her vomit again,” Zhuang Jingwei replied. “She drank too much. Her tongue and throat are probably numb. If she vomits again, she might even choke…”
Lin Yanyu didn’t hear the rest.
Back in the bedroom, she held Tan Changxin’s hand and used a Spiritual Guidance Technique, trying to direct the water-element spiritual energy within her.
Under her guidance, the energy very slowly began to dissolve the alcohol. The process was agonizingly slow, but better than doing nothing.
Before the Sleep Charm fully kicked in, Tan Changxin was actually still semi-conscious. She couldn’t see clearly or speak properly but her mind was aware.
And… a little too bold.
For some reason, she suddenly wanted to call Lin Yanyu “kitty” and take advantage of her while drunk to hear her flustered “meow.” But she didn’t really know what counted as “taking advantage.”
Besides, Lin Yanyu had been so kind to her. In all fairness, she could at most tug on her tail, just a little tease.
But once she fell into dreamland, all the imagery she had seen in storybooks during the day and what she’d glimpsed in the bath the day before began to take shape in her dream.
When she finally woke with a jolt, her heart was pounding, her mouth dry, and her head aching terribly.
How could she how could she have done that to Lin Yanyu in a dream?!
A cool touch suddenly landed on her forehead. Tan Changxin opened her eyes to see a hand gently moving a white cloth across her skin.
That hand pale and slender fingers, nails a little long but carefully filed into a beautiful curve momentarily entranced her. In the dream, this was the very hand she had tightly held, with its nails scratching nervously against her own.
Tan Changxin swallowed unconsciously only to choke on her own saliva and burst into a coughing fit.
Lin Yanyu had been wiping the sweat from her forehead. Startled by the sudden coughing, she quickly helped her sit up and patted her back to help her breathe.
“Water…” Tan Changxin croaked. Meeting Lin Yanyu’s gaze, her face turned bright red even her ears and neck flushed.
Too busy pouring water, Lin Yanyu didn’t notice her embarrassment. By the time she returned and handed over the cup, the girl had already used a breathing technique to calm herself and force the blush from her skin.
“Drink slowly. Have more,” Lin Yanyu said. “You must be terribly thirsty. Last night your lips were sealed so tightly, I couldn’t get any medicine or water into you.”
Sealed too tightly…
Though Tan Changxin appeared to drink quietly, she was desperately trying to purge the strange associations from her mind.
She could never read those storybooks again. People said demons were full of desire, and right now she was no better than one of them.
“What time is it?” she asked after finishing the water, turning toward the window but the curtains were drawn, so she couldn’t tell the hour.
“Just past dawn,” Lin Yanyu replied. She had gotten quite good at converting time by now. “It’s still early. If you drink your medicine, you can sleep a bit longer.”
She brought over the medicine that had been prepared the night before, warming it slightly with her fire energy before handing it over along with a spoon.
Tan Changxin could tell from the smell that it was Zhuang Jingwei’s blend. Without using the spoon, she held her breath and drank it all in one go. Once finished, she clenched her eyes shut and shivered all over from the bitterness.
“Do you have any sweets?” she asked, without much hope.
“Yes,” Lin Yanyu replied without hesitation. “Do you want honey or malt sugar?”
Tan Changxin blinked in surprise and held out her hand. “Malt sugar.”
Watching Lin Yanyu casually retrieve a candy tin from beside the bed, she vaguely guessed that “kitty” had known the medicine would be bitter and had prepared candy in advance. A wave of warmth bloomed in her chest.
As she sucked on the malt candy, Lin Yanyu summoned a fan and handed it over. “This is the artifact your father gave you last night. It’s already bonded with you. Keep it safe once you feel better.”
She recalled Yang Hengyu saying that the Wuyuan Fan was both beautiful and practical. But since the girl had been asleep, she hadn’t dared examine it.
Tan Changxin took the fan and gave it a light sniff. Sure enough, it carried a faint peach blossom fragrance. When she opened it, she found the metal fan surface covered in blooming peach flowers. She reached out to touch them they weren’t carved into the fan, but rather seemed to have grown from it soft and slightly damp.
Lin Yanyu stared in awe. She had never seen such a magical artifact. The peach blossoms looked alive, full of vitality.
With a thought, Tan Changxin caused the petals to flatten and fade back into the fan surface. Moments later, they reverted to cold metal indistinguishable from the rest of the fan.
“What a strange and beautiful artifact!” Lin Yanyu couldn’t help but praise. “Aside from looking good, what special powers does it have?”
“I’ll need to absorb it into my core and slowly refine it before I can fully control it,” Tan Changxin replied, carefully closing the fan. A smile spread across her face. “But since it’s made with peach wood as its core, it should be excellent for repelling evil spirits and ghosts.”
“Why is such an elegant fan called Wuyuan No Resentment?” Lin Yanyu asked curiously.
“‘Yuan’ can mean discontent. So ‘Wuyuan’ likely means ‘perfection,’ just as you said.” Tan Changxin put away the fan, chewing on the malt candy, her mind drifting back to the soft, damp sensation of those peach petals…
In her dream, she had touched something that felt just like that.
