- Chapter 6 - Rule Six of Raising a Sweetheart: Gifts
The night was quiet, the sky dotted with stars, and the bright moonlight streamed through the glass, enveloping the entire dorm room.
Ding Moyan lay peacefully on the bed. She was somewhat particular about beds, and while this one wasn’t particularly bad, it creaked annoyingly whenever she turned over.
“Luring Jiang Pei out System, what excuse should I use to trick him into that alley?” Ding Moyan closed her eyes, murmuring wearily in a voice so soft only the System at close range could hear.
[You took this task upon yourself. Figure it out.]
“Tch. If I don’t agree, I’m done for.” The thought of this unreliable System made her head throb painfully.
“Tomorrow’s going to be a tough battle.”
“Bless your poor Host, System.”
[…]
[You’re not pitiful in the slightest.]
The next day, Ding Moyan sought out Jiang Pei ’s class.
Entering the classroom, she immediately locked onto Jiang Pei ’s desk with the help of the photo the System had provided.
The class wasn’t surprised by Ding Moyan’s arrival; in fact, they greeted her as if it were routine.
“Jiang Pei ’s over there!” A Beta classmate helpfully raised an eyebrow to point him out.
Ding Moyan smiled and nodded in acknowledgment.
It seemed the original owner of this body frequented this class often chasing after Jiang Pei must have been common knowledge.
What a mess.
“Jiang Pei, I need to talk to you,” Ding Moyan said with a smile.
The curve of her lips was just right, maximizing the original owner’s charm. Faced with such an alluring high-ranking Alpha, Jiang Pei’s cheeks flushed slightly, his heart fluttering.
“Sure, I’ll come right away.”
Jiang Pei readily accepted Ding Moyan’s invitation.
In this world, the boundaries between Alphas and Omegas still existed. Unless engaged, an Omega couldn’t casually spend time alone with an Alpha.
His deskmate paused his writing, brows furrowing as he tried to intervene. “Jiang Pei, where are you going? Class is about to start.”
“I have something to do. If the teacher asks, just say I went to the restroom.” Jiang Pei’s mind was already elsewhere. He stood up and, under the gaze of the entire class, followed Ding Moyan out.
“Thank you for yesterday.”
Ding Moyan knew Jiang Pei was referring to the incident where she had saved him. Her expression softened, the usual coldness on her face melting away in the presence of the fragile, delicate Omega.
She nodded slightly in response.
“Did the President give you trouble? I saw on the official website that.”
Ding Moyan halted. “No. And as for the nonsense on the official website, do you believe it?”
Jiang Pei shook his head. Given the President’s unpredictable temperament, he didn’t believe it. More importantly, he couldn’t believe Ding Moyan would ever fall for the President.
Lost in thought, Jiang Pei wasn’t paying attention to his steps and nearly tripped over a rock, almost face-planting onto the ground.
Ding Moyan reached out to steady him. “Jiang Pei , watch where you’re going.”
“Ah.” Hearing Ding Moyan call his name, Jiang Pei ’s mind strangely skipped over the near-fall and instead fixated on something else. “Mo Yan, why aren’t you calling me Pei Pei anymore?”
Pei Pei? Mo Yan?
Ugh,That sounded so creepy, inexplicably nauseating.
Goosebumps rose on Ding Moyan’s neck. She rubbed them, steadying her unsettled emotions.
Jiang Pei tugged at her sleeve. “Mo Yan.”
Ding Moyan’s lips twitched. The agreed time was almost up, and she couldn’t afford to arouse Jiang Pei ‘s suspicion right now.
Swallowing hard, Ding Moyan reluctantly rubbed the tip of her nose, suppressing the urge to curse, and replied, “Pei Pei.”
Jiang Pei pouted, “That’s more like it.”
Maintaining her composure, Ding Moyan nodded politely with a smile, her gaze falling on the Omega who stood half a head shorter. The Omega’s face showed a hint of bashfulness, but it didn’t seem out of place instead, it accentuated an air of innocence. This was one of the reasons the original owner had liked Jiang Pei so much.
Of course, in Ding Moyan’s eyes, it all just seemed rather low-class. Wanting to have one’s cake and eat it too, the protagonist truly deserved what was coming.
Jiang Pei looked up and asked, “Mo Mo, where are we going?”
Ding Moyan replied, “To a nice place.”
“A nice place?”
“Yes, a very nice place.”
Ding Moyan chuckled, her charming demeanor making the Omega’s heart race. Given Ding Moyan’s looks and family background, Jiang Pei thought that if it weren’t for Sister Zou Ye, he would most likely have agreed to be with her.
Jiang Pei smiled, “Then I think I’ll really like it.”
“Perhaps,” Ding Moyan said. As for whether Jiang Pei would actually like it once they got there, she had no idea. But she was certainly looking forward to seeing the protagonist get beaten up.
Quickening her pace, Ding Moyan led Jiang Pei to the alley entrance.
The alley had many blind spots, and the cameras set up around the Rose Workshop couldn’t capture this area.
This place had left too deep an impression on him. Seeing the familiar surroundings again, Jiang Pei couldn’t help but recall the incident from last night when he had been cornered here.
Biting his lip in discomfort, Jiang Pei asked, “Why here?”
Ding Moyan seemed to read his thoughts. With a faint smile, she explained, “To give you a surprise.”
A brooch was pinned to Jiang Pei’s chest, a butterfly-shaped piece adorned mostly with blue gemstones, its wings studded with sparkling crystals. Under the sunlight, the dazzling reflections complemented Jiang Pei’s fair skin, making it even more radiant.
“It’s so beautiful,” Jiang Pei murmured, frozen in place as he stared down at the brooch.
He had seen this brooch a few times in jewelry advertisements, a priceless treasure worth millions, far beyond what someone of his status could ever hope to own.
“Surprised?”
Jiang Pei snapped out of his daze, running his fingers over the crystals before looking at Ding Moyan in disbelief. “This is for me?!”
Ding Moyan nodded. “Yes, it’s yours.”
“Thank you, but this is way too extravagant.”
“As long as you like it,” Ding Moyan replied. “But it’s best not to flaunt it.”
“I understand.”
Jiang Pei knew the importance of not showing off wealth, especially in this elite Engineering Institute. Staying low-key was crucial.
No wonder she had brought him to this secluded alley. Jiang Pei caressed the brooch lovingly, warmth blooming in his chest.
He was about to say something else when footsteps echoed from the alley entrance. Jiang Pei quickly turned to look a tall, muscular man with dark skin stood there.
His hair was dyed green, and he wore a mismatched outfit full of holes, looking every bit the delinquent.
Was this someone sent by the President? Ding Moyan’s expression tightened slightly as she slipped her hands into her pockets.
Jiang Pei’s eyes held wariness and confusion. This person didn’t seem like a student from the Rose Workshop, so why was he here?
The boy’s gaze swept over Ding Moyan’s body before finally settling on Jiang Pei.
“Omega?”
The boy narrowed his eyes slightly, exhaling a ring of smoke, his expression revealing a hint of subtle desire.
He took a few steps closer.
Jiang Pei’s expression shifted, his body tensing. The instincts of an Omega made him instinctively retreat behind the stronger presence, seeking refuge in Ding Moyan’s protective space.
