- Chapter 32 - Reassurance
As dusk fell, the locals hosted them for a meal at the hotel, observing all the proper courtesies and serving a lavish spread.
Yet, no one had much of an appetite. Xiao Nan picked up her chopsticks and reached for a piece of tender meat, but just as she was about to taste it, Li Jian’an subtly stopped her.
He nudged her with his foot to get her attention, leaned in, and whispered, “The radiation levels here are extremely high. Don’t eat the meat…”
Xiao Nan was too frightened to touch the meat again. She glanced at the table full of delicacies, everything looked delicious and beautifully presented, but who knew what these ingredients really were?
“…But I’m so hungry,” Xiao Nan said with a troubled expression. “I just want a bite… Can’t we even eat the vegetables?”
“Did you see any vegetable patches or farmland on the way here? This place doesn’t seem like it grows vegetables. Even if they do, the yield must be very low,” Li Jian’an pointed at the plate with his chopsticks, disdainfully adding, “Look at that red meat, who knows what it’s made of? What if it’s cloned human flesh?”
“…………”
The thought horrified everyone. Yu Ke slammed her chopsticks down on the table with a sharp “thud,” her gaze cutting through the air like a knife, filled with stern reproach.
“Sorry,” Li Jian’an lowered his voice. “Did I disturb you?”
All eyes turned to Yu Ke. The plump manager, who was dining with them, paused his meal and asked with concern, “Is everything alright, honored guests?”
“It’s nothing. My friend’s remarks just irritated me a little.”
Yu Ke apologized politely in the local language, then switched tongues and scolded Li Jian’an, “If you don’t want to eat, then don’t. But stop talking about clones like that. They have the same physiological structure as humans and possess independent consciousness. They deserve respect.”
The dining hall fell into complete silence.
Fuming, Yu Ke picked up the glass of red wine a servant had poured for her and took a sip.
Lan Xing watched her, her eyelashes fluttering softly. She lowered her head, picked up a spoon, scooped some soup, blew on it to cool it down, and slowly took a sip.
Li Jian’an hadn’t expected Yu Ke to get so angry. Was she sympathizing with the clones?
Admittedly, the plight of the clones was pitiable, but what did that have to do with them?
The more Li Jian’an thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. He stood up and spoke in the local language, “Captain, I don’t believe I’ve offended them. I didn’t discuss them in their presence, what’s disrespectful about that? The ones disrespecting them are the capitalist empires that employ and exploit them. I don’t think I owe you an apology.”
At this, even Lan Xing stopped drinking her soup, frowning as she watched the two.
Lan Zhen, looking like she enjoyed the drama, rested her chin on her hand and tilted her head, observing their argument.
Xiao Nan sat in the corner, sensing the tense atmosphere and not daring to make a sound.
If their earlier private discussion had been in their own common language, which the locals might not even understand, it wouldn’t have been a big deal. But now, bringing it out into the open like this felt somewhat… disrespectful to the clones serving them.
After a moment of silence, Yu Ke said sternly, “This is the shared fate of colonized planets, it has nothing to do with the clones. Even if the planet were inhabited solely by natural-born humans, they would still face exploitation. All we can do is show them the respect they deserve and refrain from discussing them.”
Li Jian’an had been about to retort to Yu Ke, but upon hearing her words, he froze in place.
It was true, this had nothing to do with clones. He had mistaken the primary issue.
He had held prejudices against the people of this planet, viewing them as pitiful souls exploited by capitalism, as worthless Betas, as beings abandoned by interstellar society.
Whether they were clones or natural-born humans, they all deserved respect.
Li Jian’an lowered his head and apologized, “I’m sorry, that was rude of me.”
Yu Ke shook her head and picked up her chopsticks to serve herself some food. At that moment, the portly manager smiled at her and said in their interstellar common language, “Honored guest, that is beef imported from Datianxi, specially reserved for our guests. The seafood is also imported from Datianxi, this is the only occasion where we serve it, and the quality is exceptional. These vegetables are grown in our hydroponic greenhouses, not outdoors, and are free from nuclear contamination. You and your friends can enjoy them without any concern.”
The others looked surprised, and the manager hurriedly added, “My apologies, I should have made this clear earlier. You and your friends are our esteemed guests, and we would never dare to neglect you.”
Yu Ke glanced at Li Jian’an, her expression clearly saying, “See? You were completely wrong.”
Li Jian’an pursed his lips, too ashamed to speak.
Lan Xing politely spoke up, “The food here is delicious. Thank you for your hospitality.”
Hearing this, the manager was even more grateful, standing up and bowing in appreciation.
After a moment, Lan Xing asked him, “Excuse me, are you a clone? If it’s not appropriate to answer, please disregard my question. I apologize if I’ve been impolite.”
Yu Ke looked at Lan Xing, her eyes shimmering with faint starlight, and whispered, “Your question was already very polite.”
Lan Xing smiled faintly, watching the manager expectantly.
“I am not,” the manager replied courteously, “but my daughter is. She died of an illness when she was four years old, so I used her genes to clone my current daughter. She is now healthy and happy.”
Lan Xing’s eyes lit up, and the manager gestured with his hands, “She’s already this tall. Perhaps you’ll have a chance to meet her someday.”
“I would be delighted,” Lan Xing said. “I would like to meet her.”
The manager hadn’t expected his casual remark to be taken so seriously by this guest and suddenly felt awkward.
“Lan Xing,” Lan Zhen interjected, “you’re not a child anymore. Don’t engage in such meaningless actions.”
Lan Xing had no rebuttal. The manager chuckled warmly, “It would be an immense honor for me, but my daughter isn’t with me at the moment. I’m afraid you won’t have the chance to see her.”
Lan Xing looked slightly disappointed. Yu Ke noticed but said nothing.
After the meal, the manager escorted them to their rooms to rest. Lan Xing was required to share a room with Lan Zhen, while the others were given individual rooms.
As soon as Yu Ke entered her room, she filled the bathtub with water, preparing to take a bath, when the doorbell rang. She went to answer it and found two fools standing at her door.
Fool No. 1, Li Jian’an, grinned foolishly, rubbing his arm timidly as he said, “Captain, can we stay with you?”
Fool No. 2, Xiao Nan, nodded vigorously beside him, “…because we’re scared.”
Yu Ke raised an eyebrow. “If you’re scared, you can share a room. There’s no need for both of you to come to mine, is there?”
Li Jian’an shook his head vigorously. “How could I take advantage of someone’s vulnerability and share a room with an Omega? Even though I’m a Beta, my fundamental gender is male, which carries the risk of violating an Omega.”
Xiao Nan nodded emphatically like a broken record.
It’s important to know that in some parts of the galaxy, Omegas are considered the private property of Alphas, resources that ordinary Betas cannot touch. Therefore, relationships between Betas and Omegas are deemed illegal.
Li Jian’an liked Xiao Nan very much, but considering the trauma she had experienced from the incident at the seaside restaurant, he had always been careful to maintain his distance from her.
A timid Beta male and a fearful Omega female, after discussing the matter, decisively went to seek Yu Ke’s help. Under the protection of an Alpha, they could both sleep peacefully.
The unfortunate one was Yu Ke, who had been looking forward to a relaxing bath.
After weighing her options, she agreed to let them in but insisted that they must shower before entering her room.
Since a bath was out of the question, she decided to send a message to check on Lan Xing. She opened her phone and typed: “Princess, are you asleep?”
Lan Xing replied instantly: “Not yet, what about you?”
Even in messages, she used formal language. Yu Ke felt she needed to properly train this adorable little mermaid, starting with teaching her how to act coquettishly.
She typed and sent another message: “I was thinking, we’ve been away from Ferrari for many days now. You should get used to calling me A’Ke.”
This time, Lan Xing replied slowly: “Sorry, I’ll try to correct it gradually.”
Yu Ke fell silent for a moment before putting her phone down. She felt that some things needed to be said to Lan Xing in person.
She went to knock on the door. Lan Zhen opened it, wrapped in a towel and wearing a stern expression. “What do you want?”
“I want to talk to Lan Xing,” Yu Ke said, standing at the doorway and looking at Lan Zhen. “Can we switch rooms tonight?”
Lan Zhen laughed mockingly. “Why should I? If you wanted to sleep with Lan Xing, why didn’t you say so earlier?”
Yu Ke tugged at Lan Zhen’s hand. “Good sister, please?”
Lan Zhen glanced back at Lan Xing and sneered. “Fine, considering your marking incompetence, I’ll let you have it tonight.”
With that, Lan Zhen, wrapped in her towel, swaggered over to Yu Ke’s room, only to be utterly shocked to find two people cowering at the door.
Li Jian’an had rushed through his shower and arrived promptly, and Xiao Nan had done the same. They had been ringing the doorbell for a while, only to be greeted by Lan Zhen.
Seeing Lan Zhen wrapped in a towel, half-exposing her figure, Xiao Nan’s eyes shifted. Li Jian’an quickly covered her eyes and asked warily, “You… why are you here? Do you… also want to sleep with the captain?”
Lan Zhen was speechless. “What nonsense! Why would I want to sleep with Yu Ke?”
“Then what are you…”
“I’m sleeping here tonight,” Lan Zhen said, using the key Yu Ke had given her to open the door. She glanced back at the two with a flirtatious look. “What, do you want to come in too?”
Xiao Nan happily stepped forward, while Li Jian’an grumbled under his breath but ultimately had no choice but to follow.
What was supposed to be a peaceful night for the three ABO dynamics had somehow turned into this chaotic mess?!
Yu Ke stood at the doorway of the room, paused for a moment, and said, “Lan Xing, I’m coming in.”
Lan Xing sat on the sofa, hugging her knees, looking somewhat uneasy.
Yu Ke’s shadow stretched long and slanting on the ground under the lamplight. Her voice, gentle and low, flowed like a cool mountain breeze as she spoke.
“I never realized that keeping my distance from you all this time has unintentionally hurt you,” Yu Ke moistened her throat and slowly stepped into the room, appearing before Lan Xing with a furrowed brow. “Whenever you called me ‘Your Highness,’ I thought it was because you were well-mannered and more accustomed to using honorifics. But it seems I overlooked my own habits.”
“I was the one deliberately keeping my distance, always addressing you as ‘Princess.’ I thought it would show more respect and help you gradually adjust to our relationship, but it seems I’ve only pushed you further away.” Yu Ke sighed softly as she looked at the sad little mermaid. “I’m truly sorry, my dear.”
Lan Xing’s delicate eyebrows were knitted together, her blue eyes brimming with tears. She lowered her head, and glistening teardrops fell.
Yu Ke had never been comfortable with overly affectionate words. Seeing people online constantly using terms like “baby” or “wife” always felt unbearable to her.
But when she called Lan Xing “my dear,” it didn’t feel awkward at all, instead, it rolled off her tongue naturally.
She walked up to Lan Xing, looked down at her, and then, without another word, bent down and kissed her lips.
That one kiss quickly escalated into something uncontrollable. Yu Ke’s movements were urgent, as if she wanted to devour Lan Xing whole. Yet, her lips were thin, and when they met Lan Xing’s jelly-like ones, it felt like gathering honey, small, impatient kisses, one after another.
She tasted the mermaid’s tears, salty and cool, like sea salt ice cream. Lowering her head, she cupped Lan Xing’s face and reverently licked away the tears, her movements gentle and tender.
Lan Xing seemed dazed, and when she came to her senses, she appeared even more distressed.
Even when crying, she was so beautiful that one couldn’t help but want to admire her a little longer. Yet, Yu Ke’s heart ached fiercely, gripped by pain.
“Sister, sister, I’m scared…” Lan Xing reached out to hug Yu Ke, wrapping her arms around her neck, her fingertips trembling. She seemed as fragile as dazzling colored glass, ready to shatter at any moment.
“Don’t be afraid,” Yu Ke’s heart ached terribly. She held Lan Xing’s head with one hand, stroking her hair, while the other hand tentatively caressed her waist, over and over. “Don’t be afraid, Lan Xing. I’m here with you…”
This was the first time she had seen Lan Xing so vulnerable, more unbearable than the pain during her estrus cycle.
Yu Ke continued to stroke her, kissing her lips and pressing against her cool cheek, soothing her: “It’s my fault for not taking good care of you and making you feel wronged.”
“No, it’s not,” Lan Xing breathed softly, leaning into Yu Ke’s embrace and resting her head on her shoulder. After a moment, she said, “Sister doesn’t like Lan Xing. It’s Lan Xing who has disappointed you.”
“Silly, how could I not like you?” Yu Ke’s heart raced with panic. She kissed Lan Xing’s cheek and said with regret, “I knew I shouldn’t have brought you here. I’ve frightened you. What do you mean by ‘disappointed me’? You’ve never disappointed me, understand, my dear Lan Xing? My love, please don’t be sad anymore, alright?”
“I’m not scared,” Lan Xing said stubbornly. “I want to see the other clones, to know what they’re like. I’m not afraid. Maybe I’ll be decommissioned one day too, but until that day comes, I won’t be afraid! But I do worry… I worry that you might stop liking me. I don’t know what to do… I want to behave well, I want you to notice me, and I also want… to mate with you.”
Each word struck Yu Ke’s heart like a hammer, making her breath catch and leaving her gasping for air.
How sensitive Lan Xing must be to worry about such things.
Yu Ke kissed her lips and said sorrowfully, “Silly girl, I’ve just been too cautious, not knowing how to get closer to you. I wish I could see you every day, stay with you, talk with you, sleep with you, and show you all the different sights…”
She comforted Lan Xing over and over while slowly unbuttoning her clothes, pulling off that beautiful pilot uniform. Then she lifted the inner garment, pushing it upward from the bottom until it reached the top, before leaning down to kiss her again.
