- Transmigrated Into a Scummy Alpha Who Stole the Male Lead's Mermaid Fiancée
- Chapter 27 - Voyage
Thirty-five days had passed since Yu Ke’s transmigration. On this day, she piloted the spacecraft to take Lan Xing away from Labu Planet. At this point, the plot had deviated from the original book by a vast margin, spiraling completely out of control.
After changing into fresh clothes, Yu Ke entered the cockpit where Li Jian’an and Lan Zhen were locked in a heated argument over the spacecraft’s route. Seeing Yu Ke, Li Jian’an grasped at her like a lifeline, complaining, “Lan Zhen wants to go to Hedu Planet, but that place isn’t suitable for us. I suggest taking Interstellar Route 210 to Datianxi, it has interstellar police stationed there, and the people are warm and friendly. That’s where we should be heading!”
Lan Zhen crossed her arms lazily and said, “If we go to Datianxi, we might get arrested the moment we land. Besides, I don’t like it there. Although Hedu’s public security isn’t great, with a reliable Alpha like Wang Nu around, what is there to fear?”
Yu Ke’s fine eyebrows lifted slightly. “…Are you doing this on purpose?”
Lan Zhen leaned back, laughing with schadenfreude.
Yu Ke disliked the term “reliable Alpha.” She didn’t want to give anyone on board the illusion that she could handle everything. She stated, “If public security is too poor, we won’t be able to cope. I can barely protect myself, let alone the Omegas and Betas on board.”
Lan Zhen argued, “Hedu Planet’s surface is 90% seawater, with fresh air, excellent water quality, top-tier ecological environment, and numerous islands. It’s the ideal migration destination for our mermaid clan. If you’re thinking of settling down and marrying Lan Xing, that’s the best choice.”
Yu Ke glanced at Li Jian’an, who shrugged and spread his hands helplessly.
“I haven’t thought about settling down or marriage yet,” Yu Ke cleared her throat. “We’re not at that stage.”
“Then why did you disrupt the wedding?” Lan Zhen’s tone turned sharp. “Just for fun?”
Yu Ke retorted, “Is that any of your business?”
Seeing the tension between them escalate, Li Jian’an quickly interjected, “Stop, stop arguing. You two are the only Alphas on board. If you fight, none of us can pull you apart.”
Lan Zhen scoffed, “An Alpha without a shred of determination, what kind of Alpha is that?”
Yu Ke’s voice turned stern. “Then don’t forget, I am the owner of this spacecraft. Where we go next is my decision.”
“What’s going on?” Lan Xing’s gentle voice came from behind, interrupting the three.
Yu Ke fell silent, while Lan Zhen remarked sarcastically, “Ask our proud captain. Who knows what’s going on in her head?”
Under Lan Xing’s gaze, Yu Ke’s assertiveness deflated. After all, Lan Zhen was her sister, she couldn’t disregard her entirely.
So, Yu Ke relented. She looked at Lan Xing and said amiably, “Lan Zhen has some suggestions for our next route. I’m undecided and wanted to hear your thoughts.”
Lan Xing, wearing a sea-blue princess dress with golden wavy hair cascading down, looked like a life-sized doll. She blinked and gazed at Yu Ke. “You’re the captain. Whatever you decide is fine.”
Yu Ke let out a relieved sigh, feeling a sense of contentment, much like the reassurance a man feels when his wife stands by him during an argument with his mother-in-law, solid and comforting.
“Lan Zhen suggested we settle down on Hedu Planet,” Yu Ke said softly. “But I don’t really want to settle just yet. I’d like to explore different planets. What do you think? If you’d prefer Hedu, we can set off right away…”
“No, don’t listen to the Third Princess,” Lan Xing replied, her lips curving into a smile so sweet that the dimples at the corners seemed to drip with honey. She clasped her hands behind her back and added playfully, “I want to travel to different planets with you all. Don’t change your original plans because of me!”
Hearing this, Yu Ke breathed a sigh of relief. Meanwhile, Lan Zhen, finding herself outnumbered, gave up the argument. She turned away and left without another word.
Li Jian’an shifted his attention to the control panel. “In that case, we’ll take Interstellar Route 210. It’s relatively safe and offers some nice scenery along the way. I’ll set the navigation, and then it’ll be on autopilot…”
Li Jian’an chattered away as he operated the instruments and logged the flight details. After a while, he turned around and exclaimed in surprise, “Why are you two still here?”
Yu Ke and Lan Xing exchanged a glance before quickly looking away, both seeming slightly uncomfortable. Yu Ke stepped up to Li Jian’an and tapped him lightly on the head. “I’m the captain. Why wouldn’t I be in the cockpit?”
“Ah, that’s not what I meant,” Li Jian’an said, rubbing his head in exasperation. “Could you two say something? Standing behind me in silence for so long, I thought everyone had left! It’s kind of creepy out of nowhere!”
Yu Ke had also wanted to say something to Lan Xing, but after standing there awkwardly for so long, she felt even more embarrassed now that Li Jian’an had pointed it out.
“Just focus on flying the ship and talk less!” Yu Ke snapped at him.
“I’ve set it to autopilot. If I don’t talk, I’ve got nothing to do,” Li Jian’an retorted, then turned to Lan Xing with a straightforward, almost foolish grin, his eyes drifting down to her skirt. “Princess, can I ask how your mermaid tail turns into human legs?”
As soon as he spoke, it was as if he had some kind of social fearlessness, asking the very question Yu Ke had been curious about but didn’t dare to voice. Yu Ke turned to watch Lan Xing, grabbing a sunflower seed from the coffee table and cracking it open, doing her utmost to appear nonchalant.
Lan Xing shyly lowered her head, lifting the edges of her skirt slightly as she smiled. “That’s a secret of the mermaid tribe. I can’t tell you directly. One day, if a mermaid girl is willing to come ashore for you, you’ll find out.”
Li Jian’an let out an “Oh,” then said, “So it’s a secret…”
After that, he effortlessly struck up a conversation with Lan Xing, asking if she was comfortable with the ship’s facilities and if there was anything she needed.
Yu Ke listened nearby, boiled water, and brewed tea, handing a cup to Lan Xing.
“Thank you,” Lan Xing said as she accepted the teacup, inhaling the fragrance politely. “It’s black tea, my favorite. You’re very thoughtful, Your Highness.”
“We’ve left Ferrari. There’s no need to call me ‘Your Highness.’ Just call me A’Ke,” Yu Ke said, sitting down with her own teacup. “Do you need help settling into your room? It might be inconvenient without attendants around. If you don’t mind, I can have Xiao Nan assist you.”
“The room is all tidied up, I can take care of myself,” Lan Xing pursed her lips. “If Your Highness… A’Ke is available, you could come to my room…”
Yu Ke’s heart skipped a beat. After a pause, she said, “…Let’s talk after you’ve rested.”
To be honest, she also wanted to spend time alone with Lan Xing and be intimate with her, but the current situation was that she still didn’t know how to interact with Lan Xing properly, even conversation felt awkward.
Under these circumstances, only thinking about taking advantage of Lan Xing seemed rather unscrupulous.
If she and Lan Xing had been long-time friends or former lovers, then after disrupting the wedding, she could have treated Blue Star as her partner.
But from start to finish, they had never gone through a “lover” phase. Yu Ke knew very little about Lan Xing, and their relationship was stuck in an awkward limbo. Now, without the catalyst of pheromones, she couldn’t imagine how to initiate intimacy with Lan Xing.
However, Yu Ke wasn’t in a hurry to bridge this gap. On the contrary, she believed that feelings couldn’t be rushed, they both needed time to figure things out.
Lan Xing stayed in the cockpit for a while, finished the black tea Yu Ke had brewed for her, politely said goodbye, and Yu Ke saw her to the door. After Lan Xing entered her room, Yu Ke courteously walked away.
Two hours later, Xiao Nan finished preparing dinner and rang the bell to call everyone to eat.
Li Jian’an, as usual, was the life of the party, while Lan Zhen seemed disinterested, barely touching her food after a few bites. Yu Ke ate as usual and politely asked Lan Xing if she was adjusting well to the spaceship’s meals.
“It’s absolutely delicious,” Lan Xing said, taking a small bite of cake and nodding as she savored it. With a smile, she added, “After leaving Panda Planet, I discovered there are so many delicious things in the universe. Isn’t that right, Third Princess?”
Lan Zhen lazily replied, “Well, on Panda Planet, we rarely came ashore, and it was impossible to cook with open flames underwater.”
Lan Xing agreed, “Not being able to cook with open flames is truly a great pity!”
Lan Zhen said, “The more places you visit, the more you’ll realize Panda Planet has too many unbearable flaws.”
Hearing this, Yu Ke asked, “So, for you, you prefer traveling among the stars?”
“Who doesn’t like traveling if they have the money?” Lan Zhen chuckled lightly. “But the universe is too vast. Even if you spend your whole life exploring, you couldn’t see a thousandth of it. Eventually, you realize your life is just like that, it’s better to settle down early and live a stable life with someone you love.”
Bringing up “settling down” again made everyone groan inwardly. Li Jian’an reminded her, “We’re already on Route 210. It’s impossible to change our minds now.”
Lan Zhen picked up a beer, popped the cap off with her sharp nail, flicking it away, and took a swig from the bottle. Grumpily, she said, “I don’t care where you’re going. Once I get my own spaceship, I’ll go wherever I want by myself.”
“Oh, really?” Yu Ke looked at her. “When do you plan to get your own spaceship?”
Lan Zhen rolled her eyes dramatically. “What, can’t wait to get rid of me?”
Yu Ke smiled. “I just want to know what your plans are.”
“We’ll talk when we get to Datianxi,” Lan Zhen said coldly. “I have my own spaceship there.”
In the end, Lan Zhen was still going with them to Datianxi.
Yu Ke found this outcome both surprising and amusing. She instinctively glanced at Lan Xing, who was also smiling with her head lowered. Noticing Yu Ke’s gaze from the corner of her eye, Lan Xing lifted her face and responded with a look.
“By the way, Captain,” Li Jian’an set down his bowl and chopsticks, looking at Yu Ke, “our spaceship still doesn’t have a name! Think of a cool one, I need to write it in the log soon!”
Yu Ke turned to Lan Xing and asked gently, “Do you have any ideas?”
Lan Xing hesitated. “It’s your ship, you don’t need to ask me…”
“Today is your first day aboard,” Yu Ke said. “Because of your arrival, this ship now has a name. It’s only fitting that you be the one to name her.”
Lan Xing glanced around uncertainly, her cheeks faintly reddening.
Lan Zhen suggested, “How about ‘Princess’?”
Li Jian’an immediately objected, “The ship should be named by Her Highness. Why do you always have to take charge?”
Lan Zhen rolled her eyes again and downed his beer in one gulp, clearly displeased.
Lan Xing said softly, “I think ‘Princess’ is quite nice.”
Lan Zhen brightened up. “My dear sister, you’re finally on my side this time.”
Lan Xing felt a little embarrassed, but Yu Ke made the final decision: “Then ‘Princess’ it is. It suits us, we have two princesses aboard now.”
“In our kingdom, all royal girls are princesses. You are one too,” Lan Xing said, gazing steadily at her.
“I’m the one who protects the princesses,” Yu Ke replied casually. “Ever since I was little, my dream has been to protect the princess.”
The first game she ever played as a child was about a dragon kidnapping a princess, and she had to fight her way through levels to rescue her. Even as an adult, she still played similar games.
Her upbringing had been the same, adults had always instilled in her a spirit of self-reliance. No one had ever told her that she, too, was a princess worthy of being cherished.
But if given the chance to start over, she would still choose to be who she was now, because she had already decided to be the knight who protects the princess.
The “Princess” sailed through the silent expanse of space. After chatting for a while, everyone returned to their rooms, leaving Yu Ke alone in the cockpit, taking over Li Jian’an’s shift.
There was no distinction between day and night here, and the scenery was monotonous. They never encountered other ships, making the shifts incredibly dull. Yu Ke brought some books to pass the time, but soon her eyes grew heavy. She sprawled out, legs brazenly propped up on the console, drifting in and out of sleep.
After an indeterminate amount of time, a faint sound came from behind. Yu Ke turned and caught a glimpse of golden hair. Immediately, she lowered her legs, adjusted to a more refined posture, and picked up an electronic pen, pretending to be engrossed in study. She even nodded at Lan Xing with an air of seriousness.
Lan Xing stood there in a white lace nightgown, her golden hair braided into four strands draped over one shoulder. She held a mug from which steam rose, carrying the rich aroma of coffee.
For some reason, Yu Ke was reminded of her late-night study sessions in the university library. The scent of coffee felt familiar and comforting.
The study halls were always filled with more girls than boys. Occasionally, a particularly striking young woman would brew a cup of intensely fragrant coffee in the hallway, catching Yu Ke’s attention. But she had never mustered the courage to strike up a conversation with any unfamiliar girl.
To her, Lan Xing was the most unique of them all.
It was a feeling both familiar and strange, as if they had met somewhere in a past life.
Yu Ke looked at her and asked, “Why aren’t you asleep?”
Lan Xing bit her lip, stammering, “I… I couldn’t sleep. I thought… maybe you needed some company…”
“Alright… sure,” Yu Ke straightened up, thought for a moment, and said, “Then… would you like to read with me?”
Lan Xing nodded seriously. She carefully set down her coffee cup, sat down next to Yu Ke, and picked up the book in her hand,
“A Guide to Cross-Species Romance: The Primate Edition (Marine Life Not Included)?” Lan Xing read aloud slowly, her large blue eyes filled with confusion. She and Yu Ke stared at each other for three seconds, and in that moment, it was hard to tell who was more embarrassed.
Yu Ke’s expression froze for a few seconds before she stumbled over her words, “Um… I haven’t actually read it yet.”
When she bought the book, she had chosen it simply because of the words “cross-species romance” on the cover. She never expected it to be… like this.
It was utterly despairing.
Lan Xing held the book as if it were a hot potato, hesitating before setting it down. She took a sip of coffee to calm her nerves and pretended not to care, saying, “It’s… it’s fine. Cross-species relationships… are perfectly normal…”
She tried to act composed, but a blush crept across her cheeks, reaching all the way to the tips of her ears. Even as she took a sip of coffee, she couldn’t help but cough several times.
