- Chapter 20 - Departure
The moment Yu Jie stepped out of his room, he collided with the last person he wanted to see.
“Father,” Yu Jie said, his face pale. “Why are you here?”
“You returned without a word,” the King frowned, “sneaking around like a thief.”
Yu Jie forced a bitter smile. “About Lan Xing…”
“Lan Xing is saved. It’s your duty to retrieve her,” the King said with detached coolness.
“The hero who saved her is Yu Ke. I did nothing,” Yu Jie replied irritably. “What use is there in going now?”
The King’s brow furrowed deeper. “You’re a public figure. You should know what must be done and what must not.”
Yu Jie turned his face away, offering no response.
Male laughter echoed from inside the room, causing Yu Jie’s expression to shift slightly.
Both the King and the minister behind him sensed something amiss. “Who’s in there?” they demanded.
Yu Jie began to stammer, “Just some guards… they often carry on like this…”
“Guards?” the King questioned. “Why would you keep guards in your chambers?”
Yu Jie took a step back, actually attempting to block the doorway.
The King signaled to his subordinate, who roughly shoved Yu Jie aside and pushed the door open.
The scene before them was shocking. Three large male Alphas, stripped to the waist, were preparing to assault an unconscious Omega.
Caught by the King’s sudden intrusion, the three froze in panic, dropping to their knees in unison, too terrified to even retrieve their shirts.
The female Omega was bound to the dining table, her clothes torn open, wrists and ankles tied separately, with something stuffed in her mouth.
She appeared to be in agony, her body writhing uncontrollably, emitting unconscious moans. Her face was flushed red, eyes barely able to open fully, clear symptoms of being in heat.
Witnessing this, the King exploded in rage, shouting, “Yu Jie, you wretched scoundrel!!”
Yu Jie knelt on one knee, his face as pale as paper, swallowing hard. “Father, please let me explain.”
“Allowing your subordinates to commit such brutish acts, what explanation could you possibly give?!” The King was breathless with anger. “You… you’ve disappointed me beyond words!”
“She came here to assassinate me!” Yu Jie protested loudly. “Her handgun is right here, proof that she intended to kill me!”
Without another word, the King slapped Yu Jie across the face with a sharp, resounding crack.
Stunned by the blow, Yu Jie’s lips turned purple as he bowed his head, not daring to speak further.
“You are the future King,” the King said, regaining his composure. “A monarch must be honorable and upright. Such behavior is utterly unacceptable.”
Yu Jie murmured, “I understand my wrongdoing.”
Still visibly shaken, the King glanced at the young Omega and immediately ordered his men, “Save her, quickly!”
Yu Jie seemed on the verge of speaking but held back. The King turned to him, his voice icy. “Tell me, how could an Omega in heat possibly carry out an assassination?”
Yu Jie licked his lips. “Perhaps she was trying to seduce me…”
“Whatever the reason, this is inexcusable,” the King declared. “Your actions are despicable, showing none of the gentlemanly conduct expected of a Crown Prince!”
Yu Jie had no retort. The King wanted to continue berating him, but the words died on his lips.
Finally, the king said, “Spend this time reflecting on yourself indoors.”
…
The news of Jenny presenting as an Omega had spread among many in the palace.
Ram eagerly went to see her, bringing two bottles of suppressants.
“A pretty Omega like you must always carry suppressants,” Ram said, fanning himself with a pink feathered fan. “Revealing your pheromones in front of an Alpha is illegal in this country.”
Jenny glanced at him, expressionless.
Ram chuckled to himself. “So annoying, always with that stern face. How did you even become Sister A’Ke’s personal maid all these years?”
Jenny remained silent.
Ram continued, “I’m heading out this afternoon to visit Sister A’Ke. I brought her some medicine, but I’m not sure what she likes. You’ve been by her side for so long, you must know her preferences well, right?”
At this, Jenny’s expression shifted slightly.
Ram smirked triumphantly. “You’re concerned about Sister A’Ke’s condition too, aren’t you?”
Jenny’s face showed no extra emotion as she replied, “Bring her some fruit.”
Ram: “???”
“Why bring fruit? Even for nutrition, aren’t nutrient solutions a hundred, a thousand times more effective than fruit?” Ram couldn’t understand.
“It’s a custom,” Jenny said flatly. “And bring her a bouquet of flowers too.”
Though puzzled, Ram decided to follow her advice.
His plane arrived on time in the small town of Jiangzhou. Holding the bouquet, he disembarked and took a fast train directly to the hospital.
Yu Ke was lying in bed watching TV when she saw someone enter carrying a large bouquet and a fruit basket. She felt both surprised and delighted.
Over the past few days, many visitors had come to see her, but they all brought practical items like nutrient solutions and suppressants. While useful, it lacked a certain sense of ceremony.
Just like being able to eat flatbreads and drink soy milk in the Kingdom of Ferrari, this world always managed to disappoint her while occasionally offering a pleasant surprise.
“Thank you, Ram,” Yu Ke said sincerely.
Ram didn’t understand the significance of bringing flowers, but he noticed the princess’s genuine happiness and realized Jenny’s suggestion had indeed worked.
“Actually, Jenny was the one who told me to do this,” Ram pursed his lips. “I figured she knows you best, so I followed her advice.”
“How is she?” Yu Ke asked after a moment’s pause. “I heard she presented.”
“Yeah, she turned into a beautiful and captivating Omega,” Ram sneered coldly. “So enviable.”
Yu Ke simply said, “Oh,” and then asked, “What are her plans now?”
Ram fiddled with his nails absentmindedly. “You were the one who decided to send her away. Why bother asking about her plans now?”
Feeling guilty, Yu Ke fell silent.
“Honestly, I’m not here to speak up for Jenny either,” Ram said with a haughty tone, “Hmph! I dislike her too. It’s just that seeing her like this now… I can’t help but feel sorry for her.”
Yu Ke remained quiet. Ram added, “Since you’ve made your decision, stop hesitating and don’t pretend to care about her. No need to make that maid grieve over you again!”
“You’re right,” Yu Ke straightened up and looked at the handsome man before her. “Ram, I want to leave the Kingdom of Ferrari. Can you help me?”
Ram stood up abruptly from his chair, his round eyes wide with shock. “Leave this place? Why?”
“Didn’t I mention it before? I want to become a film director, to make movies,” Yu Ke said with a faint smile. “Anywhere would be better than staying here.”
Ram’s face flushed slightly. “Are you asking me to elope with you?”
Yu Ke fell silent for a moment.
“Well, it’s not impossible,” Ram said excitedly. “I’m not completely uninterested in filmmaking either. I could play the male lead in your movies. That way, I wouldn’t have to rush back to Yado. What kind of stories do you want to film? Do you have any scripts ready?”
Yu Ke hadn’t expected Ram to be so enthusiastic. She stammered, “That’s not what I meant.”
“It’s fine,” Ram said earnestly. “I don’t mind eloping. I can endure hardships with you!”
After a moment of speechlessness, Yu Ke explained, “The reason I’m asking for your help is that I truly can’t think of anyone else. There’s no other meaning to it. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.”
Ram blinked. “Huh?”
“I take back what I said earlier. I’m sorry,” Yu Ke lowered her eyelids. “I’m really touched that you came to visit me, but have you ever considered one thing…”
As Ram looked at her with hopeful anticipation, Yu Ke decided to be straightforward. “Actually, I like women.”
Ram let out a soft “ah” and laughed. “That’s okay. Nowadays, who isn’t at least a little bisexual? You can think of me as a girl. Isn’t the most outstanding trait of an Omega their reproductive function?”
Yu Ke’s expression turned cold. “That’s not it, Ram. It has nothing to do with reproduction.”
Ram seemed somewhat disappointed. After a moment, he said, “Is it because of Lan Xing?”
Yu Ke remained silent. Ram glanced at Yu Ke’s injured leg and sneered, “You like Lan Xing, that’s hardly a secret anymore.”
“Is that so?” Yu Ke lowered her head, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “In that case, it’s even more reason for me not to stay in the Ferrari Kingdom.”
“What’s her attitude?” Ram asked. “She probably wouldn’t break off her engagement for you, would she?”
“I never expected her to break off the engagement,” Yu Ke replied. “Liking someone doesn’t mean you have to possess them.”
“I can’t understand that,” Ram said, looking at her seriously. “Just like how I like you, I would definitely fight to have you!”
Yu Ke leaned back against the hospital bed, turning her head to gaze out the window. Softly, she said, “You’ve only known me for a few days. How can you claim to like me already?”
“What about you and Lan Xing, then?” Ram countered.
“I’m not sure,” Yu Ke shook her head. “Sometimes I wonder if this feeling is just a momentary impulse, not true affection. That’s why I want to go somewhere else to calm down and think it through clearly.”
Ram seemed convinced. He sat down, thought for a moment, and asked, “Where are you planning to go? How can I help?”
A relaxed smile appeared on Yu Ke’s face. “I’ve already booked a starship that can take me halfway across the galaxy. I need you to cover for me and make sure the palace doesn’t find out I’ve left.”
Calmly, Ram asked, “What’s in it for me?”
“Nothing much, but I believe you’re the only one who can help me,” Yu Ke said slowly, looking directly at Ram.
A smile spread across Ram’s face. “In that case, I’ll be the only one who knows where you are. Not a bad deal.”
Yu Ke spent half a month recuperating in the town, using various excuses to delay her return to the royal capital. The king, aware that Prince Yado Ram was there accompanying her, simply let her be.
As the crown prince’s wedding date drew nearer, Yu Jie began receiving attention once again. The king’s previous coldness and criticism toward him gradually turned into earnest reminders. Queen Jiao grew increasingly anxious, repeatedly urging Yu Ke to return to the royal capital.
Finally, on a day in May, Queen Jiao personally visited the hospital where Yu Ke was recuperating, only to discover that Yu Ke had long since vanished without a trace.
When questioned, Ram claimed to know nothing. Queen Jiao was utterly dumbfounded. After all the years she had spent carefully grooming Yu Ke, how could the girl just disappear without a word?!
Furious and flustered, Queen Jiao sent people to investigate Yu Ke’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, she herself was embroiled in a crisis, traces had been uncovered linking her to the previous incident where she had bribed an underground organization to kidnap Lan Xing.
On Lan Xing’s end, she simultaneously received wedding dresses prepared for her by both the Panda Planet and the Ferrari Kingdom, yet she had no heart to try them on.
Sang Jiu was idly grooming a golden retriever, remarking boredly, “This poor dog, when will its owner ever come back!”
Lan Xing’s expression was heavy. During Yu Ke’s recuperation period, this little golden retriever had stubbornly lingered in her courtyard, refusing to leave, so she had no choice but to take it in on behalf of its owner.
She had thought that when Yu Ke returned, she could use this opportunity to return the golden retriever and exchange a few words with her…
But now, the latest news she had heard was that Her Highness the Princess had already left the Ferrari Kingdom.
To her, it felt like a bolt from the blue.
She lowered her head to look at her phone screen, where a message from the princess sent many days ago remained: “Are you okay?”
It was on that very night that she had been marked.
She hadn’t replied at the time because her phone had been left with Yu Jie, who had seen the princess’s message and grown suspicious.
Later, she didn’t reply because she felt it was no longer necessary.
Twenty days had passed, and Lan Xing found herself staring at the chat interface for long periods almost every day, as if waiting for something.
She was about to put on a wedding dress and marry someone she didn’t love.
Yet, she couldn’t help fantasizing that the princess might suddenly appear, like a true prince, riding a white horse to carry her away.
She typed a few words, then drifted into a daze. Sang Jiu reminded her from the side, “If you send her a message, the crown prince will find out.”
Lan Xing’s mind wandered, her hand trembled slightly, but she still pressed the send button.
