Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 74
Early the next morning, the police department’s tech team returned to Shen Xian’s company to investigate further. They specifically examined Wang Jianhui’s computer and had professionals review the office surveillance footage again. The whole company was soon abuzz with nervous speculation.
Once the police finished collecting evidence and left, Shen Xian instructed Xiao Yue to notify all employees of a mandatory all-hands meeting.
Not long after, the conference room was filled. Shen Xian scanned the room before beginning, “I called this meeting to address what happened last night. Kang Hai from the short video project team attempted to steal critical project data and was arrested by the police. I had installed a hidden surveillance camera in the short video team’s office—not to monitor the team, but to prevent this kind of incident. Unfortunately, despite the precaution, it still happened.”
She continued, “This project is crucial to the company’s future, and everyone in the short video team has signed confidentiality agreements. Last night, Wang Jianhui left his workstation to use the restroom and assumed, since Kang Hai was on the same team, it was safe to leave his computer unlocked. That gave Kang Hai the opportunity. I’ve already handed all relevant materials to our legal partners—both of them will be prosecuted.
Although Wang Jianhui’s mistake might seem minor, if the data had been successfully stolen, it would’ve caused immense damage to the company. I’m not trying to scare anyone—I just want everyone to take this as a lesson. Be vigilant about your work. And to the short video team: don’t panic. That camera was installed to catch bad actors, not to monitor trustworthy colleagues.”
Shen Xian figured everything that needed to be explained had been said. This incident with Kang Hai served as a warning—“killing the chicken to scare the monkeys,” so to speak—reminding anyone with ill intentions to think twice.
“Nothing more to add. I just wanted to reassure everyone and ease concerns. The police collecting evidence is standard procedure. Please return to your tasks as usual. That’s all—meeting adjourned.”
With that, the employees filed out. Sometimes, even small incidents can spiral into damaging rumors if not addressed. By explaining things directly, Shen Xian eliminated any uncertainty.
—
Meanwhile, at the police station, Kang Hai had been shown video footage of him copying data from Wang Jianhui’s computer. Realizing escape was impossible, he decided to cooperate in hopes of leniency. He told the police everything about his dealings with Lu Jianbai, even directing them to retrieve their signed contract from his apartment.
The police moved quickly. After securing the video and evidence, officers were dispatched to the hospital where Lu Jianbai worked. The hospital security guards, confused by the police presence, led them to Lu
Jianbai’s department.
After knocking, four officers entered the office.
“Which one of you is Lu Jianbai?”
Still seated, Lu Jianbai looked up, stunned. “I am. What’s going on?”
“You’re suspected of involvement in an economic crime. Please come with us to cooperate with our investigation,” said the lead officer.
A flicker of panic flashed in Lu Jianbai’s eyes. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m just a doctor—how could I be involved in something like that? You’ve got the wrong person.”
“We’re not mistaken. Mr. Kang Hai has already confessed everything. Please come with us.”
Lu Jianbai’s legs went weak, and he staggered back, knocking over a cup on the desk. “It wasn’t me! I didn’t do anything wrong!”
Then his eyes grew wild. Suddenly, he shouted, “It wasn’t me! I’m the male lead of this book! Don’t you see? I’m the true protagonist! Where’s the main consciousness? Come out! You told me to find Kang Hai—it was your idea! Show yourself!”
The officers were startled, but they remained calm—they were used to suspects feigning insanity to avoid responsibility.
“There’s no need to say more. Save it for the station,” one officer said flatly.
“Stay back! Who dares arrest me?! I’m the male lead! I’m this world’s hope! Don’t touch me!”
Seeing his mental state deteriorate, two officers moved in to restrain him, and one cuffed him. Lu Jianbai still hadn’t given up, yelling all the while. The officers ignored him and escorted him away.
Due to the tension and panic, Lu Jianbai lost control of his bowels. His pants were soiled, leaving a foul stench that followed him down the halls, sending curious onlookers fleeing in disgust.
In another part of the hospital, Lin Qinghan was walking through the corridor with a few doctors, holding a patient’s scan, when Lu Jianbai caught sight of her and began screaming like a madman:
“Qinghan! Don’t believe Shen Xian—she’s the invader! I’m the real male lead of this story! I’m the one meant to be with you! Shen Xian stole my life—she’s the thief! She’s the one who should disappear!”
When he wouldn’t move, the officers had to push him forward. He kept twisting his head to shout at Lin Qinghan:
“Qinghan, you’ll regret this if you don’t listen to me! I’m your true destiny!”
Lin Qinghan furrowed her brows tightly. She already knew Shen Xian wasn’t originally from this world—Shen Xian had told her herself. They had even gone to a temple to pray for safety. But how did Lu Jianbai know this world was a novel?
Worried that he might hurt Shen Xian, Lin Qinghan quickly handed the scan to the doctor next to her, asked her department head for half a day off, took off her white coat, grabbed her bag, and rushed out—leaving a few nurses stunned.
“Where is she going?”
“Don’t tell me she’s actually going to help Lu Jianbai?”
“No way. Everyone’s avoiding him like the plague. Who’d be dumb enough to get involved now?”
In the past, Zhao Qing and Liu Wenwen would’ve seized the chance to gossip about Lin Qinghan, but now that Lu Jianbai had disgraced himself, they were too embarrassed to even mention his name. The more they used to like him, the more they loathed him now.
—
Lin Qinghan caught a cab to Shen Xian’s company. She rushed in through the front doors and made her way to Shen Xian’s office. After knocking, she stepped inside.
Shen Xian was reading over some documents when she looked up and her eyes lit up. “Qinghan? What brings you here?”
As she walked over, Lin Qinghan grabbed her arm and said anxiously, “Lu Jianbai knows this is a book. He said he’s the original male lead. He must’ve found something out. Shen Xian, what if he tries to hurt you?”
Shen Xian pulled her into a hug and whispered, “Don’t worry. It’ll be fine—I can handle it.” Then, mentally, she asked the system, “What’s going on?”
The system replied, “Host, don’t worry. The residual consciousness of the original book must have told Lu Jianbai. But I’ve already erased that fragment completely. He won’t receive any more information from the original will.”
Only after hearing this did Shen Xian relax. Seeing how worried Lin Qinghan was made her feel warm. Her favorability score had already reached 90—something she never thought possible before.
She tightened her arm around Lin Qinghan’s waist and said softly, “It’s okay now, Qinghan. I know what’s going on. But I’m sorry—I can’t tell you because of the rules. Just trust that there’s no danger.”
Lin Qinghan looked up at her. “Really?”
Shen Xian chuckled and nodded. “When have I ever lied to you? Were you worried about me?”
This time, Lin Qinghan didn’t deny it. She nodded and said quietly, “I was. I was scared. What if you get pulled back to your original world? After everything we’ve done… you’re not allowed to leave.”
Shen Xian soothed her, “Relax. Where could I go? I spend all my time circling around you and Tiantian.”
“Good.” Lin Qinghan finally relaxed. Seeing Shen Xian’s usual expression reassured her. She released her hold and sat on the sofa to rest.
Shen Xian quickly poured her a glass of juice. “Scared my dear wife? Come, have some juice and rest a bit.”
Lin Qinghan took the juice and drank a few sips. She looked up to see Shen Xian staring at her, her gaze unwavering. Lin Qinghan’s ears turned red. “What are you looking at? Go do your work!”
Instead, Shen Xian rested her chin on Lin Qinghan’s shoulder. “What? Can’t I admire my own wife?”
“No.” Lin Qinghan shook her shoulder, trying (and failing) to get Shen Xian off.
Shen Xian giggled. “Qinghan, is the juice sweet?”
Confused, Lin Qinghan nodded and raised the glass to feed Shen Xian a sip—only for Shen Xian to pull her into a kiss instead.
Lin Qinghan pushed her away a little, only to see Shen Xian smirking. “It is sweet. I just tasted it.”
Flushed, Lin Qinghan glared at her. “I’m sleeping with Tiantian tonight.”
Shen Xian panicked, “No, Qinghan, don’t do that! Tiantian’s finally used to sleeping on her own, and I need you beside me. I’m clingy, remember?”
Lin Qinghan stifled a laugh and smacked her lightly. “What, you think you’re Tiantian now? Need bedtime stories to fall asleep?”
“I don’t need bedtime stories… But lately I’ve been sleeping in too much. Haven’t gone jogging in ages. I need some exercise with Qinghan—”
Before she could finish, Lin Qinghan shoved the juice glass to her lips. “Drink your juice. I’m going to nap in the lounge.”
She darted into the lounge and locked the door behind her, finally exhaling as she lay down.
Shen Xian twisted the doorknob with a knowing smile. She forgot I have the key. But she had work to finish, so she returned to her desk.
Outside the door, Xiao Yue and Shang Yunbo were debating whether to knock—two documents still needed Shen Xian’s signature.
“You go knock?”
“No way! Mrs. Shen is inside—won’t we be interrupting?”
“But these documents are urgent…”
“I’ll go then,” Xiao Yue sighed.
She knocked. Shen Xian responded, “Come in.” Xiao Yue entered, breathing a sigh of relief, and placed the documents on the desk. She glanced around and noticed Lin Qinghan wasn’t visible.
Shen Xian smiled, “Looking for someone?”
“No, no. Just saw Miss Lin earlier…”
“She’s resting inside,” Shen Xian said directly, amused by Xiao Yue’s curiosity.
Eyes shining like a gossip addict’s, Xiao Yue left with the signed documents.
“Well?” Shang Yunbo asked.
“She’s in the lounge.”
—
Once Shen Xian finished her work, she grabbed the key and quietly opened the lounge door. Lin Qinghan was fast asleep on the bed. Shen Xian looked at her, heart aching a little—Qinghan had been working far too hard lately. She needed to convince her to switch to working at the company instead.
Seeing the time, Shen Xian gently nudged her awake. “Qinghan, let’s go home. It’s time to pick up Tiantian.”
Lin Qinghan rubbed her eyes. “I fell asleep?”
“Too tired, I guess. Make sure you rest early tonight,” Shen Xian said with a mischievous smile.
By the time Lin Qinghan realized what she meant, Shen Xian had already dashed out of the lounge.
