- Chapter 4 - The Great Demon of Destruction
Having finalized his plan, Lin Qing rose abruptly, unsheathed the immortal sword at his waist, and flew out of the palace atop the blade.
Lin Qing was not afraid of heights. He adapted quickly to his first time flying on a sword. Looking down through the dense layers of clouds, he saw the entire Tianyan Sect. The mountains were steep and rugged, stretching out in an endless chain.
The peak where the Eternal Lord resided was adjacent to Lin Qing’s. The peaks governed by the other sect leaders and several elders were clustered tightly together, forming a visible encirclement that effectively hemmed in the mountain where Lin Qing lived.
The original plot was filled with descriptions of various play scenarios and never mentioned the geography of the Tianyan Sect. Lin Qing had previously assumed that the reason the original host was caught by a different elder every time he tried to escape was simply the author’s way of providing the readers with excitement. Now, he finally knew the real reason. With this terrain, if he ever had to tear off the mask and leave, he would have to alert an entire mountain of people just to carve out a path.
The system reminded him: [Dear, at this time, you should be in the palace recovering from your injuries.]
Lin Qing: [In the entire Tianyan Sect, the only one with a higher cultivation and status than mine is the Eternal Lord, who is currently in seclusion. No one would dare question my whereabouts.]
At least for now, Lin Qing still bore the labels of the Solitary Sword Venerable: sacred, elegant, and unapproachable. Even when he was injured, the elders only offered customary greetings before leaving, not daring to disturb him further.
The white clad Sword Venerable landed in a desolate wasteland. He produced a compass, seemingly searching for something. In the original plot, only the first chapter mentioned two species that did not harbor improper thoughts toward the host. One, of course, was the Demon Spider he encountered when he first transmigrated, which wanted his life. The other was the Demon Sovereign who had perished nearby, the one who had nearly destroyed the world thousands of years ago.
In the original story, the background introduction in the opening chapter mentioned only one sentence: “The Demon King sought to destroy the world; the great powers of the Immortal, Demon, Spirit, and Ghost realms joined forces to set a Demon Slaying Array, perishing along with the Demon King to secure the world’s peace.”
Since then, the talents of all realms had withered. The four realms signed a peace treaty to maintain a superficial harmony. The major powers of the cultivation world had suffered heavy blows and were reshuffled. After a thousand years, new geniuses of the cultivation world were rising again. Chief among them was the youngest disciple of the Eternal Lord of the Tianyan Sect: Lin Qing.
If one only looked at the first few chapters, it really did seem like a proper cultivation novel. But later on, the plot lost all sense of boundaries. The author’s various tricks were endless. It was no exaggeration to say that every species in the world wanted a piece of the male lead.
The reason Lin Qing came here was to find the place where that world destroying demon had fallen. As a world destroying demon, even if he were dead, there ought to be some inherited cultivation techniques or legacies left behind. Otherwise, how could a dignified Great Demon, whose soul and body were extinguished with nothing remaining, be worthy of being called a Demon King?
As for why he, a dignified sword cultivator of the Immortal path, was looking for a Demon heritage to practice instead of a technique more suited to himself? Lin Qing wanted to, but you could not expect a trashy adult novel to mention any serious legacies or inheritances. As for whether those Immortal masters who fell with the Demon King had legacies? They likely did, but they were probably picked clean by cultivators thousands of years ago. There was no way any would be left for him.
He could only come here to the Demon King’s site to try his luck. This was the only way he could think of to defy his fate and change his life. In the original plot, what those people loved most was the host’s sacred, noble, and cold, inviolable appearance. If he became a notorious demon, perhaps those people would lose interest in him.
Unfortunately, the original plot only gave that one background introduction. As for the specific location, Lin Qing could only search for it bit by bit.
The system found the host’s actions very strange: [Dear, what are we looking for here?]
Lin Qing: [Taking a walk, searching for treasure. Why? Does this interfere with your main plot?]
The system said: [Of course not, dear. Whatever makes you happy.]
The main plot would not begin for another five days. During these five days, as long as Lin Qing did not think about dealing with Yun Fan or other important male supporting characters, the system was too lazy to interfere with what he did.
The place where the demon was slain was desolate and uninhabited, seemingly long forgotten. Lin Qing walked and stopped, wasting quite a bit of effort before the compass finally sensed the presence of demonic energy. He immediately walked in the direction indicated by the compass and, seeing a pitch black, sinister cave appearing nearby, excitedly moved to rush inside.
“Ouch!”
Lin Qing, who was about to start running, suddenly felt as if he had hit something and was bounced back three meters, landing hard on the ground. On the previously ordinary yellow earth, an ancient array pattern emerged. Lin Qing climbed up and brushed the dust off his clothes.
“Pah!”
Spitting out the sand that had kicked up into his mouth, Lin Qing used his sleeve to wipe his dust covered face.
The system could not stand it anymore and reminded him: [Dear, you are the Sword Venerable Lin Qing. Please pay attention to your noble image. You can use a cleansing spell, or you can carry a handkerchief.]
“Fine, I get it,” Lin Qing said dismissively. A handkerchief? What kind of man would carry something so womanly? Besides, the long robes of this cultivation world were truly a hindrance. He was always afraid of stepping on the hem and tripping. They were nowhere near as comfortable as short sleeved shirts. If he ever got into a fight, these damn clothes would be nothing but trouble.
Lin Qing stepped forward to examine the thing that had just sent him flying. “This should be the Demon Slaying Array from back then. I did not expect that after a thousand years, this array would still be clinging to life.”
Lin Qing could not help but sigh. Fortunately, this Great Demon Slaying Array only worked against demons. A cultivator like him would at most be blocked outside. Otherwise, had he rushed into the array just now, he would have likely been annihilated until not even ash remained.
“It seems that in the cultivation world, I need to be more vigilant in the future,” Lin Qing muttered. He began to study the array, thinking of how to get in. Unfortunately, he was dizzied by the array’s light and could not make head or tail of it. The original host was a sword cultivator through and through. He swung a sword well, but he knew absolutely nothing about arrays.
Lin Qing drew the immortal sword at his waist once more. “Should I try to see if I can destroy it?”
Following the sword techniques of the original host, images flashed in Lin Qing’s mind. He raised his long sword and swung it. There were no fancy moves, just a simple hacking motion, yet it seemed to carry supreme pressure. The sharp sword qi easily sliced through everything.
“Wow, it turns out I am actually this powerful.”
Lin Qing looked at the destroyed array and the trenches that had appeared in the ground. He flicked his wrist, executing a beautiful sword flower before sheathing the blade.
The system encouraged him: [Of course, dear. The title of the male lead as a Sword Venerable is not just for show.]
“Heh!” Hearing that, Lin Qing let out a cold laugh. No matter how powerful he was, this system still made him follow the main plot, forcing the male lead to become a harlot who only knew how to be in heat in bed. A harlot could at least earn money to redeem themselves. The only purpose for the male lead’s existence was to please those who imprisoned him and use his body to bring those bastards pleasure.
With the array no longer blocking him, Lin Qing took a light source from his spatial ring and walked into the cave. However, after a few steps, Lin Qing saw the stone wall blocking his path and fell into silence.
After a long while, he spoke: “This godforsaken place is not even as big as my toilet back home.”
