- Transmigrated Into A Book And Became A Heartthrob Male Protagonist
- Chapter 14 - The Second Main Storyline
Lin Qing’s secret practice of demonic arts naturally did not escape the System’s notice. However, since he was learning in secret and it did not interfere with the main plot, there was not much the System could do to protest. Moreover, the behavior of demonic cultivators was much more unrestrained than that of the orthodox cultivation world. The System figured that by practicing demonic arts, its host’s personality might change and make him more willing to complete the tasks. Thinking the benefits outweighed the disadvantages, it did not bother to stop him.
Every day, the System prayed that its host would change and accept his reality. But it seemed to have forgotten that Lin Qing was a stubborn human who, even after death, would have turned into a vengeful spirit to haunt his enemies until the bitter end. The System had originally chosen Lin Qing as the protagonist because of his unyielding spirit, believing he would not easily let the supporting male leads break his mind or cause him to lose his sense of self. Many hosts of this type of system, while never in life-threatening danger, lost their souls during their missions and became beautiful husks that only lived for instinctive pleasure.
Recalling its past hosts, the System realized Lin Qing was the most rebellious one it had ever managed. However, as the protagonist, he had to follow the rules. These rules were not set by the System. The System merely issued tasks based on the established lines of fate. No matter how rebellious a protagonist was, they could not escape destiny. How long would this host struggle before finally compromising?
Lin Qing had no idea what the System was thinking. If he did, he would have called it a dirty liar. Had he not been deceived, he would have preferred to be a ghost than come to this godforsaken place.
In the courtyard, Yun Fan heard the door open. He immediately dropped the toys in his hand and gazed at Lin Qing with eyes full of affection. “Master, where are you going?”
“Since when is it your place to question my business?”
Looking at Yun Fan, Lin Qing felt like he was going to develop sties in his eyes. “Get back to your room and hide. If anyone sees you like this, I will tell the world you have been possessed and kill you on the spot.”
Yun Fan licked his dry lips and begrudgingly put his clothes back on. “Yes. This disciple understands.” He wondered which nuisance had come to ruin his time for honest disclosure with his Master.
Lin Qing muttered about his bad luck and hurried out of the front courtyard to the main hall to receive his visitors. He marched out in a rage, but as he approached the hall, his expression gradually settled. His face, so handsome it seemed untouched by the mortal world, regained its customary coldness.
The Demon King praised him. “Good disciple, your emotional management is excellent.”
Lin Qing felt a small surge of pride. “Of course.” In his past life in business, he frequently encountered bizarre clients who could annoy someone to death. Yet Lin Qing had always been able to manage everyone’s emotions perfectly. When he needed to vent his anger, he would find a way, such as hitting a punching bag with a client’s photo on it. It was not worth getting sick over a bunch of jerks.
“Junior Brother, how are your injuries healing?”
Before he even entered the hall, a man in white with an aura and appearance even colder than Lin Qing’s walked up to greet him. His familiar tone suggested they had a good relationship.
Lin Qing said politely, “Thank you for your concern, Senior Brother. My injuries have healed.”
This young man, who appeared to be in his twenties, was the current Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sect and the first disciple of the Eternal Supreme, Chou Kongshan. Perhaps because the Eternal Supreme was so cold, the two disciples he raised followed suit. Both were like thousand year old ice. However, while the original owner was silent and cold on the outside but soft on the inside, this Sect Leader was designed to be icy, heartless, and detached from humanity. In the original plot, when the Sect Leader discovered the original owner’s sins, he felt ashamed and punished him severely. He would visit daily to devise various punishments, sometimes even bringing the elders to force the original owner to repent and confess his faults before them.
Lin Qing got a headache just thinking about that plotline. He then noticed two bright-eyed young male disciples behind the Sect Leader who were stealing glances at him. “Sect Leader, have you taken on new disciples?” Lin Qing asked.
Chou Kongshan replied, “These two were prepared for you. In a few days, the grand competition for the sects of the cultivation continent will take place. This year, a team competition has been added. Since Yun Fan is your only disciple, you would be at a disadvantage. I found two new disciples for you. Their talent is no less than Yun Fan’s.”
The two disciples immediately came forward to pay their respects. “This disciple greets Master.”
“You may rise,” Lin Qing said. His expression was unchanged while he internally questioned the System. “System, I do not remember this part in the plot you gave me.”
While some unnecessary details might be skipped, in the original story, Lin Qing only ever had one disciple: Yun Fan.
The System said seriously, [Host, every world has the laws of Heaven. As the protagonist, you violated the main plot created by Heaven and destroyed an important male lead. Now the plot is in total chaos. The laws of Heaven have noticed and are intervening to return the story to its proper track.]
Lin Qing’s lip twitched. He wondered if these were another version of Yun Fan chosen for him by the rules. He had finally dealt with one, only for two new ones to sprout up.
The System said, [Even if you kill these two disciples now, more will appear until you complete the destined plot. So, Host, just complete the tasks and enjoy yourself. A world controlled by the laws of Heaven is not something you can change.]
Lin Qing looked at the two disciples with their youthful features and eyes that betrayed a hint of clear stupidity. He asked how old they were.
The two disciples answered in unison. One was sixteen and the other was seventeen.
Lin Qing was horrified by the thought that staying with him would only corrupt such young children. “Sect Leader, I do not need disciples. You should take them to another peak and hand them to an elder.”
Lin Qing then realized those elders were not any better and might end up raising two little deviants. He gritted his teeth and said, “Let them stay for now as registered disciples.”
“Very well. I only brought them here to introduce them. How you handle them is up to you.” Having finished his business, the Sect Leader exchanged a few more pleasantries and then departed.
Lin Qing looked at the two hot potatoes and sighed inwardly. “Follow me.”
The two disciples quickly followed and flanked him on both sides.
“Master, I am A-Man, a third level spiritual cultivator. I will definitely make you proud at the sect competition,” A-Man spoke up.
A-Xiong added, “Master, I am A-Xiong. My goal is the same as yours: to become a world renowned sword cultivator.”
A-Man continued, “Master, I have admired you for a long time.”
Lin Qing’s mind was a mess. He did not really process what they were saying and only offered a few perfunctory responses as he led them to the residence farthest from his own. “You will stay here from now on. Take these tokens. Every morning at the Hour of the Dragon, go to Cloud Peak. Someone will be there to teach you.”
A-Man lowered his head while clutching the wooden token and looking disappointed. “Will Master not teach us personally?”
Lin Qing coughed lightly. “I am very busy. If there is anything, use the jade tablet to send a message. I will come find you when I see it.”
After giving them instructions, Lin Qing flicked his sleeve and left them with the image of a mysterious, cold, and transcendent figure.
The Demon King then spoke. “Good disciple, those two children are half demons. Do not be fooled by their appearance.”
Lin Qing, already burdened with worries, now looked even more solemn. “Yes, I know.”
The Heavenly Sect never accepted mixed blood disciples. Lin Qing wondered how these two had managed to sneak in. After returning through the back door to avoid Yun Fan, Lin Qing intended to continue his cultivation, but the Demon King stopped him.
“Disciple, enter the space. We need to talk.”
