Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 30
The next morning.
“I can’t sit steady.” Jiang Nian adjusted her backpack while sitting on the bicycle’s rear rack, then placed both hands on the seat, trying to stabilize herself.
“Then hold onto my waist,” Gu Li said casually, stopping the bike and leaning back slightly.
As soon as the words left her mouth, a pair of small hands wrapped around Gu Li’s waist. Jiang Nian’s slightly chilled face pressed against her back through the school uniform and the warm sweater.
The motion made the alpha slow her pedaling again, deliberately softening the jolts from riding to avoid disturbing Jiang Nian behind her.
The omega behind her stayed quiet, as if catching up on sleep. Puffs of warm breath seeped through the gaps in the sweater, brushing against Gu Li’s back, stirring a restless flutter in her chest.
It felt like something straight out of the idol dramas she used to watch in her past life. Glancing down at Jiang Nian’s hands resting against her, Gu Li pedaled toward school in high spirits.
At the school gate, they had to dismount and walk their bikes inside.
“What are you doing?” Gu Li asked curiously, watching the little omega, who was still mimicking the motion of holding her waist, murmuring something under her breath.
“Huh? Nothing.” Jiang Nian quickly dropped her hands and hurried after Gu Li as she pushed the bike toward the parking area.
While Gu Li bent down to lock the bicycle, Jiang Nian pulled a slip of paper from her pocket, found the matching option, and marked it with her thumb.
Alpha’s core strength: Normal. Flexibility: Good.
“Ugh, did the gym teacher lose it after having too many classes stolen last semester? Physical tests in the first week of school?” An omega from Class 3 grumbled to her classmates. But Jiang Nian, standing nearby, was quite pleased with the assessment.
The omega’s 400m hadn’t started yet currently, only alphas and male betas were lined up at the starting point for the 800m test. Gu Li stood among the alphas, her high ponytail swaying. She had taken off her school jacket, leaving only a dark blue sweater with subtle sequins that sparkled under the sunlight.
The gym teacher, stopwatch in hand, shouted for them to start. In an instant, over a dozen alphas took off. Jiang Nian’s gaze followed Gu Li as she stayed in the middle of the pack, using a taller male alpha as a windbreak. After the first lap, Gu Li didn’t slow down instead, she accelerated, moving from the middle to the front and sprinting the final 100m.
Cheers erupted around them, but Jiang Nian quietly marked Endurance and Explosive Power as Good on her slip before bouncing over to meet the sweat-dampened alpha.
“Are you okay?” The little omega handed her a bottle of water.
“Not bad.” Gu Li wasn’t particularly out of breath. The pain from her rut had been controlled by Jiang Nian’s blood, and with the help of medication and exercise, her physical condition was gradually improving. This level of activity was nothing to her now.
She took a sip of water, then glanced at Jiang Nian’s backpack, which he’d brought along for his last morning class. “Are you coming back for lunch today?”
“No.” Jiang Nian took off his backpack, unzipped it, and revealed a blue lunchbox. “I made something delicious and wanted to ask you to stay and have lunch with me.”
School B had a cafeteria that served both boarding students and some day students. The food was decent good enough to keep Young Master Mu eating there, at least. His home was too far from school, so he always had lunch there. Today, as he returned with his tray, he spotted an unusual sight.
“Gu Li, why are you suddenly eating lunch in the school cafeteria?” Mu Lan set his tray down at their table.
“Eating here means I can get back to the classroom earlier and rest more before afternoon practice. Plus, Nian said he made something special for me.” The alpha twirled her chopsticks deftly between her fingers, clearly in high spirits.
“Really? I want some too.” Mu Lan plopped his tray down unceremoniously and sat beside them, staring eagerly at the box next to Jiang Nian.
Their meals consisted of one meat dish, one vegetable dish, and a free bowl of seaweed soup from the cafeteria. Jiang Nian had prepared sweet and sour pork in a small container, intending to use it as an excuse to keep Gu Li at school for lunch. As it turned out, she had already planned to stay to prepare for a math competition.
Talk about perfect timing.
The cafeteria typically served alphas four taels of rice and omegas two. The heaping portions on the two alphas’ trays contrasted sharply with Jiang Nian’s modest serving. Throughout the meal, Jiang Nian barely ate, instead piling food into Gu Li’s bowl.
Out of camaraderie as former desk mates and gratitude for his past relationship advice, he even gave Mu Lan a small piece to try.
The sweet and sour pork was delicious, and the food from the girl he liked was even more satisfying. But Gu Li was genuinely full alphas had big appetites, but even this was too much.
The male alpha beside them only got one bite before being force-fed metaphorical dog food for the rest of the meal. He quietly shrank into his seat, saying nothing.
This CP is so sweet, it’s the perfect side dish. I can live off this dog food, my ship must get married.
“Nian… I’m really full.” Gu Li stopped Jiang Nian from adding more rice to her bowl and glanced at the omega across from her. His lips barely had any traces of oil, and his tray was already empty. Gu Li quickly stood up and went to get Jiang Nian another serving.
“I’m pretty full just watching,” Mu Lan commented from the side.
“You barely ate anything.” Gu Li was only concerned that Jiang Nian hadn’t eaten enough, failing to notice how carefully he had been monitoring her portion sizes.
Her appetite was excellent, better than when she’d eaten at his place with his grandmother’s cooking.
Alpha’s appetite: strong. No picky eating.
“Could you open this for me?”
Gu Li took the water bottle handed to her by her deskmate. The cap was screwed on tightly, and it took her a while to open it. She couldn’t help but feel puzzled, “Why did you twist it so tight before?”
Jiang Nian took the bottle back and tilted her head to drink. The bottle’s opening was wider than her mouth, causing some water to spill and trickle down her neck into her clothes.
She wiped the droplets from her lips with her sleeve, “I think my grandma screwed it on? I’m not sure probably worried it would leak in my bag.”
That wasn’t true. She had tightened it herself several times before leaving the house and even asked Mu Lan to twist it a few more times, just to make sure the cap was secure.
Yet, it still opened.
Alpha wrist strength is good.
Jiang Nian noted this silently, then glanced at Gu Li’s slender fingers and the way she deftly twirled her pen while thinking.
She added another mental note: Long, nimble fingers.
Later, during self-study, Gu Li packed her things and left for the math competition class in another building. Only then did Jiang Nian spread out a sheet of paper on her desk: Alpha Self-Assessment Guide.
“If you want to improve, you need to know your weaknesses. So today, we’ll start by teaching you how to self-assess your physical condition checking whether your strength is normal, your senses are sharp, and your appetite is stable,” the teacher explained, writing a complete assessment chart on the blackboard.
“These are the most critical factors to monitor. Generally, if an alpha has issues in these areas, it can easily lead to other problems.”
Jiang Nian memorized the teacher’s words and meticulously filled out the form, comparing it with the results of her day-long observations.
In the end, she realized, Gu Li scored well in every aspect. Some areas even far exceeded the norm.
Like focus, she could sit all day solving math problems without being disturbed by noisy classmates. Mental agility was excellent too; otherwise, she wouldn’t have made it to the provincial round of the math competition.
Jiang Nian finished marking all the assessment options and paused at the last one: Confirm whether the alpha’s gland is functioning normally.
Functioning normally… Jiang Nian instinctively touched her own gland soft, pulsing slightly. That should count as normal, right?
The alpha teacher had deliberately been vague about this part. Every other alpha in class had laughed at the question and touched the back of their necks. So this method must be correct.
This one was trickier to confirm, not as straightforward as the earlier items. Still, she tallied up the scores from the previous sections.
Xiao Gu definitely can’t be considered an underperforming alpha.
Then why had she hesitated during the marking that day, forcing Jiang Nian to drag her sore body up and bite Gu Li’s gland, seeking the comfort of an alpha’s pheromones?
Self-reliance is all well and good, but she couldn’t let her keep relying solely on herself forever. Back when she attended Gu Li’s physiology class, the alpha instructor mentioned that if an alpha keeps getting marked without ever marking someone in return, their condition would gradually deteriorate. Eventually, their glands would age and their body would start to decline. Gu Li had already withdrawn once due to that illness and her resulting insecurities this time, they had to prevent that situation from happening again.
Jiang Nian stared blankly at the empty option on the form before hastily stuffing the paper into her math textbook. She then grabbed the test papers assigned by the teacher and started working on them.
This required careful planning randomly touching someone’s gland out of the blue wouldn’t be appropriate.
She needed to come up with a method that felt natural and unforced.
