- Chapter 18 - Extra: Celebrating the New Year Together (After Marriage)
Ever since Gu Wei was whisked away by Ji Bai, they’d spend every New Year abroad, skiing in Switzerland one moment, chasing northern lights in Iceland the next claiming they needed to make up for all the places and sights her sister had missed before.
Tch. More like they just thought I was a third wheel.
Gu Li felt the private phone number she’d given Gu Wei back then might as well have been thrown to the dogs.
But it didn’t matter. She had her own wife now.
Grandma Jiang had gone back to their hometown with Jiang’s dad for ancestral rites, leaving just the two of them at home this year. After finishing their respective work, they held hands and headed to the supermarket to shop for dinner.
“What filling for the dumplings?” Gu Li picked up some celery to inspect.
“Chive and egg—no celery.” Jiang Nian nudged her hand away from the celery and pulled her toward the chives instead.
Gu Li’s taste preferences were always a little odd.
After browsing the vegetable section, they moved to snacks. Gu Li tossed in a few bags of Jiang Nian’s favorite chips and cookies, then quietly put back the ice cream she’d sneakily added.
“What are you doing?” Jiang Nian stared at her accusingly.
“Be good. Your heat’s coming up soon, no ice.” Gu Li sighed, ruffling her hair in an attempt to reason with her.
“Just one.” The kitten-like girl tried bargaining, her hand already reaching out again.
“You can only have a few bites.”
Hmph. Such a control freak. A tyrant.
Gu Li could practically hear the words just from her expression.
The dumpling filling was prepared quickly. Jiang Nian taught Gu Li how to fold coin-shaped dumplings, her deft hands shaping one perfectly in just a few motions.
Household chores were always divided between them. Since Jiang Nian made most of the dumplings, Gu Li took charge of boiling them. She turned on the stove and dropped them in one by one. “How many for you, Nian Nian?”
“Seven.” Jiang Nian grabbed a bag of chips and perched on a chair outside the kitchen, watching Gu Li.
The cold water boiled, then was cooled twice with fresh additions. By the time Gu Li turned off the heat, many of the dumplings had split open in the pot. She stole a glance at Jiang Nian, feigning composure as she ladled the intact ones into Jiang Nian’s bowl and piled the broken remnants into her own.
“Time to eat!” She deliberately left her bowl in the kitchen, bringing only Jiang Nian’s to the table. “Yours is full of chip crumbs.”
Gu Li leaned in, kissing the corner of her lips and stealing a taste of the lime flavor lingering there.
“I hid a coin in one of them. Whoever gets it this year gets to” Jiang Nian picked up a dumpling, the rest of her sentence swallowed mid-bite.
Gu Li walked back to the kitchen, instinctively checking her own bowl. There shouldn’t be a coin in there.
“Gets to what?” She carried her bowl out, curious.
The kitten already had a coin between her teeth, grinning. “It’s right here.”
She placed the coin on the table and went to take Gu Li’s bowl. “I knew you’d put all the broken ones in yours. Even though you boiled them forever, not a single one in my bowl fell apart.”
Jiang Nian nuzzled against her neck. “What did we agree on last month?”
Her forehead pressed against the scent patch, her head rubbing against it deliberately.
“What?”
Gu Li played dumb.
Jiang Nian giggled, peeling off her own scent patch. The sweet, milky tea aroma of her pheromones slowly unfurled into the air.
The alluring scent of omega pheromones wafted straight into the young, vigorous alpha’s nose. She was no longer that bloodthirsty little vampire who used to be insensitive to pheromones.
Once tasted, forever desired.
She spread her arms, wanting to pull her wife into an embrace, her fangs itching with anticipation.
The mating mark’s scent still lingered on that gland, constantly reminding her this was her omega.
Jiang Nian giggled as she slipped her fingers into Gu Li’s mouth: “I want to be on top.”
She knew Gu Li wouldn’t bite her, but she just wanted to tease her. Her mischievous streak flared up as she tugged Gu Li’s hand toward the bedroom.
The wicked vampire was pushed onto the bed, resisting the milk tea straw pressed to her lips while her gaze remained locked on the omega before her.
She was starving physically and mentally. Jiang Nian slowly straddled her, peeling off her suppressant patch. Alpha and omega pheromones blended seamlessly, each feeling the other’s scent seeping into their glands.
The privilege granted by her pre-heat was gradually stoking her desire. Jiang Nian leaned in slowly, pressing her tongue against the alpha’s sensitive gland.
A sudden warmth tingled at her fingertips. Gu Li’s crimson eyes darkened. She had always been stronger than Jiang Nian, effortlessly flipping her over.
“Nian Nian, let me take the first ‘New Year’s sleep’ this time.”
Even if they’d made promises, she still wanted to spoil Jiang Nian more than herself. Would breaking this rule really mean being punished by losing her beloved girl?
