Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 16
Damn, damn.
How did we jump straight to that conclusion?
After finally explaining everything, Gu Li walked back to the hospital room with a parched throat. The little kitten on the bed was already awake, holding her grandmother’s hand and chatting.
Almost the moment Gu Li stepped inside, Jiang Nian’s gaze shifted toward her. Staring at Gu Li’s face, she suddenly blurted out, “Sweet.”
What was sweet?
Gu Li looked at her in confusion but got no answer.
While Jiang Nian could take sick leave and stay in the hospital, Gu Li still had classes to attend. Her bicycle had been left outside the small shop near Jiang Nian’s house, so Driver Wang was once again summoned to pick her up for school.
Last night, when he followed the bodyguard to the police station to file a report, he had overheard the whole story. Now he realized how wrong he’d been to suspect his young mistress of bullying someone this was clearly a case of the domineering CEO silently protecting her delicate wife. No wonder the young mistress had rushed back in such a hurry last night, she must have gone to comfort her.
As Gu Li recited the address to him, Driver Wang smoothly shifted gears and sped toward his young mistress’s location.
Gu Li stood at an intersection about 100 meters from the hospital, making it easier for the driver to turn around and drop her off at school. With a sharp turn, Wang pulled up right in front of her and even gave her a thumbs-up as he parked, leaving Gu Li utterly bewildered.
Truly amazing, absolutely amazing. Seeing the young mistress again today made him realize how inadequate his praises from last night had been. She was gentle, charming, beautiful and wealthy, the ultimate top-tier alpha.
Watching Gu Li walk toward the school, Driver Wang silently vowed: After work today, he’d write an extra page of compliments for this kind and perfect alpha.
“Huh? Teacher Gu, why isn’t Jiang Nian here today?” Mu Lan walked up to the front, holding a math test paper and pointing at a problem he didn’t understand, curiosity lacing his voice.
Seems like he really cares.
Gu Li took the paper and glanced at him. “Nian Nian isn’t feeling well and has to stay in the hospital for a few days. It’s nothing serious, so don’t worry too much.”
“Ohhh, then I’ll buy some fruit after school and go with you to visit her.”
Mu Lan, acting on the principle that friends should visit when they’re sick, replied naturally. He even grabbed Jiang Nian’s homework for the day and stuffed it into his bag, planning to bring it to her.
The second-year curriculum moved quickly. The teachers aimed to cover all the material by the end of the year, hoping to start the first round of review at the beginning of the third year. Gu Li organized her notes, more meticulous than usual planning to bring them to Jiang Nian after school.
“Class dismissed. Gu Li and Jiang Bai, come here for a moment.” The math teacher set down the chalk, turned around, and picked up two books from the desk, handing them to the two students who approached.
“In a month, the school will begin selecting students for the math competition. Since you two are the best in our class, I’ve found some supplementary materials for you. Study from these, and if you have questions, you can ask me.”
He didn’t bother asking if they were willing just handed the books over as if it were the most natural thing.
“The teachers from the other two classes and I have applied for a study room. We’ll hold an extra hour-and-a-half session after school for you, and you can also use it as a space to discuss problems together. We’re starting this afternoon.”
The decision was made unilaterally, but it was understandable. For Gu Li and Jiang Bai, the gaokao that narrow bridge walked by millions now presented another option.
Both nodded and took their books back to study.
After a moment’s thought, Gu Li pulled out her notebook and walked to the back, handing it to Mu Lan. “Go straight to XX Hospital after school. Jiang Nian is in Room 807. Bring her my notes while you’re at it.” She paused, then added, “Tell her I’m preparing for the competition and will come later. She should review them on her own first.”
“Got it.”
The small study room held seven or eight students, heads bent over their papers as they scribbled calculations. The teacher lectured at a rapid pace after all, these were top students handpicked from several classes. When covering foundational theories, there was no need to worry about anyone falling behind. After an hour-long introductory session, Gu Li and the others received their first assessment quiz.
“Think through the problems on your own first. You can discuss after fifteen minutes,” the teacher said, setting down the chalk and picking up a water glass from the desk, sipping as he observed them.
Given: Sn = |n – 1| + 2|n|
Gu Li swiftly jotted down her approach, categorizing cases based on the function’s increasing and decreasing intervals. Before the fifteen minutes were up, she had already stopped writing. In her past life, she had majored in mathematics had illness not intervened, she would have pursued graduate studies in the same field. Her mathematical foundation was solid.
“You’re amazing,” whispered a girl sitting nearby, leaning over. “I only just figured out the case analysis for the second problem.”
This seemed to be the class monitor from Class One. Gu Li smiled politely. “Not really, I just happened to think of it.”
The girl was eager to learn, immediately sliding her draft paper over to ask about a particular step. Her voice was loud enough to draw others nearby, who craned their necks to listen. Gu Li patiently explained, inadvertently completing the teacher’s next task for him.
The quiz had only three problems. Following her own reasoning, Gu Li walked everyone through the solutions.
“Excellent. Did everyone understand?” The teacher, having listened from the front, nodded in satisfaction. It seemed this year’s competition team had a promising candidate.
“Understood!” The Class One monitor’s voice boomed, loud enough to make ears ring. Gu Li subtly shifted her chair to the left, trying to escape the noise.
But the girl yanked her back by the sleeve, her voice exploding near Gu Li’s ear, warm breath brushing against it.
“Little Teacher Gu, I still don’t get this other problem. Can you take a look?”
She leaned in, face alight with curiosity. Despite the approaching end of class, Gu Li found herself trapped, explaining a difficult problem the girl had dug up from a supplementary workbook.
Why doesn’t she just ask the teacher?
“Jiang Nian!” Mu Lan called out, snapping her out of her daze. “You’ve spaced out several times while doing homework today. Are you still not feeling well? Maybe you should lie down and rest instead.”
“Ah, it’s nothing.” Jiang Nian silently lifted her pen and resumed calculating the math problem.
The sky outside was already pitch black, but Gu Li still hadn’t arrived. Had she studied too late for the competition and decided not to come? Although visiting her here wasn’t Gu Li’s obligation, Jiang Nian still eagerly anticipated her arrival.
“Jiang Nian? I’m heading off now? Jiang Nian?” Mu Lan handed the peeled apple to Granny Jiang and was preparing to leave when she noticed Jiang Nian spacing out again.
Gu Li truly was the goddess among alphas, even without being present, she’d already stolen her sweetheart’s heart away.
“Nian? Your classmate is leaving, why aren’t you saying anything?” Granny Jiang cheerfully accepted the apple while gently patting Jiang Nian’s back in mild reproach.
“Huh? Oh, goodbye. Thanks for bringing me the homework.” Jiang Nian finally snapped out of it and bid farewell to Mu Lan.
By the time Gu Li rushed to the hospital, it was already past seven. After hastily eating dinner at the school cafeteria, she took a taxi straight there. When she entered the ward, Jiang Nian was already lying down obediently while a nurse administered an IV.
“Got held up with something,” Gu Li scratched her head somewhat sheepishly, eyeing the notebooks and test papers on the bedside table.
Coming this late to tutor the little kitten wasn’t that a bit devilish?
Maybe she should just forget it. If Jiang Nian wasn’t feeling well, she shouldn’t force her to study.
“Come here~” Jiang Nian lifted her non-IV arm and waved. The nurse nearby tactfully stepped aside after removing the tourniquet.
“Closer.”
Gu Li slowly approached and sat by the bed, only to have her collar grabbed as Jiang Nian buried her face in Gu Li’s school uniform, sniffing audibly in a rather amusing manner.
Thinking Jiang Nian wanted her daily dose of affection, Gu Li was about to pull her into an embrace when the little head suddenly retreated at lightning speed, burying itself in the pillow while turning away, leaving only the back of her head visible.
What was this about?
Gu Li glanced at Granny Jiang, who returned an equally puzzled look.
Completely baffled, Gu Li reached out to pat that little head: “Nian? What’s wrong?”
The little head remained stubbornly unresponsive, curling up tighter and deliberately avoiding Gu Li’s touch. When Gu Li moved to the other side to look at her, Jiang Nian turned away again, persistently presenting only her back.
The nurse watching this couldn’t help but laugh, pulling Gu Li aside: “She’s jealous.”
Jealous?
The nurse pointed at Gu Li’s neck and uniform, then her own nose. Only then did Gu Li lift her collar to sniff there was indeed a faint, barely detectable perfume scent, probably transferred from that class monitor she’d been with earlier.
But why would Jiang Nian be jealous?
Gu Li slowly returned to the bedside and gently turned Jiang Nian back around. The kitten allowed herself to be maneuvered but refused to look at Gu Li, behaving exactly like a sulky child.
Gu Li placed her hands on Jiang Nian’s shoulders with a gentle massage: “I rushed back to tutor you, are you unhappy about that?”
No!
Jiang Nian glared at her before mumbling, “You smell bitter now. Bitter. I hate it.”
Gu Li never used to carry other people’s scents before. For the smell to linger so noticeably, Gu Li must have spent a long time alone with that person maybe even hugged them.
She refused to interact with a Gu Li who’d hugged someone else.
An omega about to undergo differentiation feels disgust and threat from the scent of others on an alpha whose pheromones are highly compatible with theirs.
