Transmigrated as the Scumbag Alpha’s Gorgeous Wife Who Keeps Trying to Seduce Me - Chapter 38
At 9 p.m., Chi Lengzhao and two other department directors saw the client off and walked out of the luxury private room in the hotel one after another.
Chi Lengzhao picked up her phone and glanced at the location Pantao had sent. “Xiao Song, take me here.”
Inside the bar, the dance floor was crowded with people grinding and swaying to the music. At the booths, men and women laughed loudly, playing dice games while downing drinks.
As soon as Chi Lengzhao stepped in, she caught the attention of many. A few women even approached her with drinks in hand, hoping to start a conversation.
“Sorry, I’m meeting someone,” she replied politely.
Pantao waved from a private room nearby. “Zhao, over here!”
Chi Lengzhao carefully made her way through the crowd, making sure not to brush against anyone, and finally entered the private room.
The door shut behind her, and the noise instantly faded.
“Why did you choose this place?” she asked. “It’s so loud and chaotic.”
Pantao tossed her a can of beer. “Exactly! That’s what makes a bar fun. If it’s not loud, what’s the point?”
Chi Lengzhao caught the can, opened it with a pop, and tilted her head back to drink.
She could hold her liquor well, and so could the original version of her. Two pitchers of beer on the table were nothing to worry about.
“Pantao, how are things going with Miss Tong? Aren’t you hanging around her shop all the time?”
Pantao scratched the back of her head, slightly embarrassed. “Not all the time. I only went four times. Just picked up some snacks and toys for my Meimei.”
Chi Lengzhao thought about it. She had been away filming for about two weeks, which meant Pantao went there once every three or four days.
“She’s really busy,” Pantao continued. “There are always people coming in—some for pet grooming, some for vaccines or checkups. Sometimes she’s so swamped she doesn’t even notice me.”
Then she started talking even more. It turned out Tong Yan had worked in her hometown for two years but couldn’t stand the quiet, aimless lifestyle. She quit and moved to a big city. She first worked in an office, where her initial boss was decent. But after the company changed hands, her new boss kept harassing her, so she left and joined another firm. That one didn’t harass her, but they dumped all the work on her, never promoted her, and blamed her when anything went wrong.
Later, her girlfriend cheated on her. They broke up, and she took the cat they had raised together and moved to the seaside, opening a pet shop on her own.
Chi Lengzhao was stunned. “How do you know all that?”
Pantao grinned. “I talked to her assistant. In exchange, I gave her a photo of you.”
Chi Lengzhao’s eyes widened. “What? You gave her my photo?”
“Don’t get mad. It was a normal picture. Just one of us at the amusement park. She’s just a sweet girl—I figured I should give her something cheerful to look at.”
“This better not happen again.”
Pantao raised her hand in surrender. “I promise. That was the last time. I only did it because I’m really trying to win over Meimei’s mom.”
She opened another can. “Zhao, I’ll drink this to apologize. Cheers!”
“Alright, alright. Don’t choke on it.”
Just then, the door opened. A woman stepped in, her face hidden by the light behind her. She wore a baseball cap, the brim casting a shadow over most of her features. But her slim figure was unmistakable—tight skirt, long legs, and loose waves of hair falling to her waist.
As she closed the door and walked in, she took off her cap and revealed her face. Her features were delicate and striking, a mix of seduction and innocence. Her big black eyes shone with a porcelain-like clarity.
Chi Lengzhao recognized her immediately.
It was the lead singer from that night at Hansi’s farewell party. The unforgettable girl with the band—Si Yu.
“Si Yu, what a coincidence. You’re here to relax too?” Pantao quickly got up, clearly flustered, and blurted out an excuse. “You two chat. I’ll go grab some more drinks.”
Chi Lengzhao realized what was going on. The real reason for this meeting wasn’t Pantao. It was this beautiful woman in front of her. She glared at Pantao, who responded with a sheepish, pleading look before slipping out the door.
Si Yu picked up a can of beer from the table and sat down right next to Chi Lengzhao.
Chi Lengzhao stiffened immediately, sitting up straighter and even sliding slightly away.
Si Yu took a long drink, then turned to her. “Zhao, why are you avoiding me?”
Chi Lengzhao didn’t know what to say. She remained silent.
“You don’t answer my calls. You don’t reply to my messages. Were you planning to never see me again?”
The day after that party, Chi Lengzhao had gotten a call from someone saved as “Yu.”
She had a gut feeling it was Si Yu.
If she hadn’t known who it was, she might’ve answered casually. But knowing who Si Yu was, and what she meant to the original Chi Lengzhao, she couldn’t bring herself to face her. All she could do was ignore the call.
Then came the messages, all asking to meet. She didn’t reply.
Sometimes silence says everything.
It might be cruel, but she wasn’t the person Si Yu once knew. She couldn’t give her what she wanted.
“If Pantao hadn’t helped, would you still be hiding from me?” Si Yu’s voice trembled, tears forming in her eyes. She couldn’t hold them back anymore. They fell silently, landing on the table and sparkling under the dim light.
“Zhao, I know you’re married. I didn’t dare call you for so long. But you’ve been avoiding me completely, like I don’t exist. What did I do to deserve this?”
All the fear, anxiety, and heartbreak she had bottled up finally came pouring out. In front of the person she loved most, she couldn’t hold it in any longer. Her tears streamed freely down her face.
Chi Lengzhao quietly handed her a tissue. Her slender hand reached out gently, offering the tissue without a word.
Si Yu stared at it for a few seconds, then suddenly threw herself into Chi Lengzhao’s arms, wrapping her arms tightly around her.
“Zhao, please don’t ignore me. Please don’t leave me.”
Chi Lengzhao was caught completely off guard. She couldn’t move. Her hand instinctively pressed against Si Yu’s arm, trying to push her away. But then something warm landed on the back of her hand.
A tear.
Then another.
She froze. Her hand slowly dropped, no longer trying to push Si Yu away.
Unless someone’s heart is made of stone, no one could stand to push away a woman crying like this.
Maybe it was sympathy. Maybe it was because she had once felt this kind of pain herself.
Whatever the reason, Chi Lengzhao didn’t move. She let Si Yu cry quietly in her arms.
It wasn’t until the woman’s sobs finally quieted that Chi Lengzhao gently spoke, her voice hoarse from hesitation.
“Si Yu, don’t cry anymore.”
“Call me Yu’er. I like it when you call me that.”
Chi Lengzhao paused, stunned for a second. Her voice came out rough.
“Yu’er.”
Si Yu smiled through the tears and gave a soft hum.
“Zhao, I knew you were still the best.”
She raised her tear-streaked face and stared at Chi Lengzhao with red, puffy eyes full of affection. Then, without warning, she leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the neck.
Chi Lengzhao flinched as if shocked by electricity. She sprang up from the couch.
“Si Yu, I have a meeting early tomorrow morning. I should get going.”
She grabbed her things and practically fled the room, slipping out the door in a panic.
Back in the car, just as they neared home, the driver Xiao Song kept glancing at her through the rearview mirror. His gaze was uneasy, as if he wanted to speak but held himself back.
Chi Lengzhao suddenly remembered the kiss. She quickly turned on the light above the back seat and used her phone camera to check her reflection.
Oh no. There, at the base of her neck, was a clear red lipstick mark.
If Shen Zhixi saw this, there’d be no explaining it. No matter what she said, it would look bad.
She quickly grabbed two tissues and wiped the mark repeatedly. Only after confirming that her skin was clean and no trace remained did she step out of the car with relief.
Even once inside the house, she didn’t head upstairs right away. She stopped in the kitchen, washed her hands thoroughly, wiped her face and neck again, and ate a few grapes and orange slices to cover the smell of alcohol. Only then did she go up.
The door to the master bedroom was slightly ajar, a soft light spilling through the gap. Chi Lengzhao pushed the door gently and peeked her head in.
A TV drama was playing in the background. Shen Zhixi was sitting on the bed with a tablet in her hands, clearly in the middle of an episode.
“You’re still awake?”
It was nearly midnight. Based on Shen Zhixi’s usual routine, she should’ve been asleep by now.
“No, I’m watching something,” Shen Zhixi replied with a quiet smile as she set the tablet aside.
“You’re back earlier than I thought.”
Chi Lengzhao had gone out to a bar with Pantao, and logically, she wouldn’t be home until well after one in the morning. Shen Zhixi hadn’t expected to see her this soon.
“I just had a drink with Pantao and chatted a bit. Then we decided to head home.”
Chi Lengzhao didn’t dare mention Si Yu, much less the kiss.
“Go take a shower,” Shen Zhixi said casually, without a hint of suspicion.
A faint scent of orchids filled the room, but as soon as Chi Lengzhao entered, the smell of alcohol on her clashed with it unpleasantly.
She quickly went to the closet and took out clean clothes to change into.
“You can shower here,” Shen Zhixi said, sounding almost like she didn’t care.
“I smell like alcohol. I’d rather not ruin the nice scent in here. I’ll shower in the guest room,” Chi Lengzhao said with a smile. “If you’re tired, go ahead and sleep. I’ll sleep in the guest room too.”
“I’m fine. I’m not sleepy,” Shen Zhixi replied, picking up her tablet again.
“There’s just half an episode left.”
Her long hair fell gently over her shoulders as she shifted positions, hiding the side of her face and the subtle flush spreading across her cheeks.
Chi Lengzhao paused at the door.
“I’ll be quick.”
She left with her clothes in hand and hurried into the guest bathroom.
She really was quick. By the time Shen Zhixi finished her episode, Chi Lengzhao had returned.
Her hair had been washed and dried, falling naturally around her shoulders. It looked silky and soft.
Fresh out of the shower, her complexion was radiant, her features soft and glowing, like a flower after rain. The dark blue camisole nightdress she wore made her skin look even paler by contrast. Her slender figure, visible collarbones, and elegant curves gave her an almost fragile, ethereal beauty.
“Sorry for keeping you up late,” Chi Lengzhao said as she lifted one corner of the blanket and sat down on her designated side of the bed.
She stayed within her space, not crossing over, not even an inch.
Shen Zhixi noticed this and smiled quietly. She couldn’t help but wonder if Chi Lengzhao was simply being polite, or if she was hesitant to get too close.
“What time are you going to pick up your aunt tomorrow?”
“Her flight arrives in the afternoon. We’ll take her to the hotel first, then have dinner. Chi Jintang already booked a restaurant. I’ll come back to pick you up before that.”
Chi Lengzhao never referred to him as “Dad” in front of Shen Zhixi. To her, a man who tricked his daughter into helping him steal from the Shen family, then tossed her aside like garbage once he got what he wanted, wasn’t worthy of being called a father.
Saying that word would only cheapen it.
In her eyes, Chi Jintang was even worse than the original version of herself.
At first, Shen Zhixi had been confused. The Chi Lengzhao she remembered from before had idolized her father, treating his every word like a decree. Then one day, she suddenly started calling him by his full name, cold and distant.
But she quickly understood. This wasn’t the same Chi Lengzhao anymore. She no longer had that blood-deep loyalty or the affection of a devoted daughter.
For a moment, Shen Zhixi wondered what kind of family this Chi Lengzhao came from. What were her parents like? What had she experienced in her life?
Chi Lengzhao pulled the blanket over herself and turned off the bedside lamp on her side of the bed.
Shen Zhixi spoke in a calm and steady voice, sharing what she had learned from Housekeeper Zhou.
“Your aunt went abroad right after graduating from university. In all these years, she only came back twice. Once for your parents’ wedding, and once when your mother passed away. She and your mother were college classmates, so they must have been quite close. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have made the trip for the wedding. We’re the younger generation. When we meet her tomorrow, we should show the proper respect. After all, she is your aunt.”
Chi Lengzhao was smart. Shen Zhixi didn’t need to say much for her to understand the meaning.
Chi Lengzhao turned her head and looked at her with quiet gratitude.
“Alright, I will,” she replied softly.
After breakfast, Chi Lengzhao went to work. Shen Zhixi fed Zai Zai, then got ready to go for a walk.
Meanwhile, Hua Zi and Fangfang were in the laundry area, washing the clothes that Shen Zhixi and Chi Lengzhao had worn the day before.
The house had four washing machines. Clothes worn close to the body were washed in a dedicated machine. Some high-end designer pieces that couldn’t be hand-washed or dry-cleaned would be carefully handled and sent out. A few jackets were picked up regularly by a luxury laundry service.
Hua Zi had a few coats in a garment bag, and the one on top was the custom black blazer Chi Lengzhao had worn the night before after returning from the bar.
The laundry service arrived early in the morning. Hua Zi heard the doorbell, grabbed the clothes, and walked out quickly. As she moved, the blazer slipped from the bag and fell onto the grass—right at Shen Zhixi’s feet.
Shen Zhixi bent down to pick it up and gently brushed off the bits of grass that had stuck to it.
She glanced down without thinking. But with just that one glance, her body froze.
On the collar of the black blazer was a faint lipstick stain. It was very light, barely noticeable. But under the soft morning sunlight, even the smallest trace of color stood out clearly.
Shen Zhixi stood there, holding the jacket, completely still.
Her chest tightened, and a wave of suffocating disappointment rose inside her.
She had truly believed that this Chi Lengzhao would be different.
But now, this lipstick stain felt like a cruel joke. It stung her eyes and made them ache.
So in the end, this Chi Lengzhao was no different from the last one. Just as flirtatious. Just as careless with others’ feelings.
Shen Zhixi curled her fingers into a fist, her knuckles turning pale.
She couldn’t understand. In this second life, after everything she had been through, why did she still have to deal with someone like this?
Her heart twisted painfully. But not long after, she let out a bitter laugh.
She realized how foolish she had been to take it so seriously.
She and Chi Lengzhao were in a marriage of convenience, set to last just one year.
They had agreed from the beginning not to interfere in each other’s personal lives.
Chi Lengzhao could like anyone she wanted. She could be with as many women as she pleased. That was her choice.
Shen Zhixi had no reason to be upset. She didn’t even have the right to be angry.
But then why did her heart ache so much? Why did it feel so bitter?
She lowered her head, bit her lip hard, and said nothing. Her eyes remained downcast, her feelings buried deep.
Not far away, Hua Zi was handing off the rest of the clothes to the laundry service when she noticed one item missing. She turned and saw the young lady holding the missing blazer, standing there in a daze.
Hua Zi smiled to herself.
Miss Chi has only been gone a little while, and she’s already staring at her clothes, lost in thought.
Well, it made sense. Miss Chi was beautiful, kind, and elegant. No wonder Miss Shen liked her so much.
Meanwhile, in another part of the city…
Chi Lengzhao (thinking): Great. Now there’s no way I can explain this. Even jumping into the Yellow River wouldn’t wash it clean.
Shen Zhixi (thinking): Get on your knees, now.
