Transmigrated as the Scumbag Alpha’s Gorgeous Wife Who Keeps Trying to Seduce Me - Chapter 24
The next day, Chi Lengzhao was alone in her private office at the company, watching a variety show.
Back in her original world, she had been extremely busy. Every second counted as money. When she wasn’t working, she was exercising or sleeping. She never had time for things like variety shows.
Now that she had taken over this side character’s life, she wasn’t as busy as before. But dealing with Chi Jintang was still a serious challenge. She didn’t have the time or mindset to enjoy a show.
She typed “Sweet Go!” into the search bar.
Just as expected, it was a popular variety show. The first episode had already passed a billion views.
A beach, a pool, bikinis. The couples wore barely anything and clung to each other in front of the camera like no one was watching.
There was no need to explain the appeal. The high ratings said it all.
Chi Lengzhao dragged the progress bar back a bit. On the screen, a handsome man and a beautiful woman walked toward the pool. The man, an Alpha, had a tall and toned body with defined abs and a V-line. He wore nothing but swim trunks. The woman, an Omega, had a sexy figure that her small bikini could barely cover. In the pool, the two embraced and kissed passionately. The close-up, high-definition shot captured their pink tongues touching and rolling over lips. Then they kissed deeply, so close that even the pores on their faces were clearly visible.
As the kiss ended, a thin strand of saliva between them sparkled under the camera light.
Both of them were breathing heavily, their eyes full of passion.
It was easy to imagine viewers getting flustered. Couples might have turned to each other for a kiss, and even single viewers could be hugging their pillows, feeling stirred.
Chi Lengzhao closed the video and let out a heavy sigh.
If she had to act that way with Shen Zhixi, she definitely couldn’t do it. And even if she could, she wouldn’t.
Such private and intimate actions shown to the whole world? Chi Lengzhao didn’t have the confidence for that.
Just thinking about Shen Zhixi wearing something so sexy on the show made her even more uncomfortable.
Even she had never seen her wife dress like that. How could she let everyone else see?
She opened another episode and skipped through it. On the screen, an Alpha was lying on top of an Omega, excitedly licking the gland on her neck. The Omega tilted her head back, lost in the moment, her eyes soft and filled with desire.
With a loud snap, Chi Lengzhao shut the laptop.
Like something had hit a nerve, she clenched her fists and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window. She stood there, staring blankly at the beautiful view outside.
After a long while, she lifted her hand and touched the back of her neck where her gland was. Then she dropped her hand and let out a deep sigh.
She picked up her phone, hesitated for a few seconds, and dialed Shen Zhixi’s number.
The call was quickly answered.
“I wanted to ask again… about that variety show…”
After hanging up, Shen Zhixi thought about what Chi Lengzhao had just said and suddenly smiled.
“If we go on the show, can you not wear a bikini? I’m just worried that Chi Jintang might get angry if he sees it.”
“Do we really have to do such intimate things? Isn’t showing our glands a bit much? What if our pheromones affect other people?”
“We’re wives. Of course, I’ll support you fully. A variety show about married couples suits us perfectly. I’ll cooperate all the way.”
“When Meixi gets on the right track, you can be the face of the brand. Livestreaming and promoting the products will raise awareness and help the business.”
“Do you want to double-check with your agent? Maybe we can set some limits on how intimate the interactions need to be. I’m even willing to sponsor the show to make that happen.”
What Chi Lengzhao really wanted to say was, I can go on the show, but I don’t want to do any intimate scenes. And I really don’t want you to wear a bikini.
Even over the phone, Shen Zhixi could hear how nervous and shy she was.
At first, Shen Zhixi had been worried.
These past few days, Chi Lengzhao had changed completely. She was polite, well-spoken, and gentle. At meals, she even told little jokes to lighten the mood. What stood out the most was her self-discipline. She woke up at six every morning to work out. She never partied or went to bars. Other than necessary social events, she was focused entirely on work. Every night, she quietly slept on the sofa and never even looked at Shen Zhixi too long.
Her lifestyle was clean and steady. She didn’t act like a shameless flirt at all. If anything, she seemed like a cold and emotionless work machine.
Still, Shen Zhixi had feared that once the cameras rolled, Chi Lengzhao would use the excuse of filming to get physical.
But now, hearing how worried she was about possible close contact…
Could this woman, once known for being wild and flirtatious, really be this cautious about being affectionate with her own wife?
Hugging a pillow, Shen Zhixi buried her face in it. Thinking of Chi Lengzhao’s guilty and anxious tone, she smiled. For the first time, she found herself looking forward to filming the show together.
As the workday came to an end, Chi Lengzhao was checking emails when her phone rang. It was Xue Pantao.
“What’s wrong, Pantao?”
“Big sis, I really need your help. It’s an emergency.”
“Go ahead.”
“Do you keep cats? Can you take care of my Zai Zai for a while? He doesn’t get along with Xiaomei. They fight every time they see each other.”
“Zai Zai?”
“My little male fairy cat. I know you’re super busy. I was going to ask Hanzi, but his place smells like smoke. I seriously doubt Zai Zai would survive the night there.”
Chi Lengzhao thought for a moment and agreed right away. “Sure. Leave him to me. I’ll take good care of him.”
“You’re the best, big sis. I’m so grateful. Should I bring him to your place tonight?”
“No need. I’ll come pick him up,” she said, glancing at the time. “I’ll be at your place in about an hour.”
After hanging up, Chi Lengzhao closed her laptop and got up to leave.
Her secretary, Xiaomei, looked up. “President Chi?”
“I have something to take care of. I’m heading out early today.”
“Got it, President Chi.”
Chi Lengzhao walked a few steps, then suddenly stopped and asked, “Have you seen the variety show Sweet Go!?”
Xiaomei wasn’t sure why she was asking but answered honestly. “Yes, I watched the whole first season.”
“Are you looking forward to season two?”
Xiaomei nodded quickly. “Yes. I can’t wait. I heard they’ll start filming in about two weeks and will broadcast as they shoot.”
Chi Lengzhao gave a quiet response and left the office without showing any emotion. But inside, a storm was already raging in her heart.
If the second season was just as bold and revealing, she would never agree to be on the show. And she definitely couldn’t let Shen Zhixi join.
She didn’t want her employees seeing her and her wife in such shameless and steamy scenes.
How would she face them afterward? How could she still lead her team?
“Zhao, I’m counting on you to take care of my baby Zai Zai. He’s only a year and a half old. Without Xiaomei around, he’s actually a sweet and obedient little cat.”
“No problem, don’t worry. If you’re still concerned, you can come by my place anytime to visit your son.”
Xue Pantao was touched and insisted Chi Lengzhao stay for dinner.
Chi Lengzhao smiled. “Not today, maybe next time. I haven’t had dinner at home for the past three nights.”
“All right then,” Xue Pantao said as she scooped up Xiaomei and smothered her with kisses on her round little face. “Sweet girl, no one will bully you anymore.”
Inside the carrier, Zai Zai watched this scene, full of jealousy. His eyes widened in anger and he let out a loud meow.
Afraid he’d get too worked up, Chi Lengzhao quickly picked up the carrier and left.
Since Chi Lengzhao hadn’t said she wouldn’t be home for dinner, the house had prepared meals for both ladies. When the housekeeper received her message—“I’ll be home around 7:30. Let Madam eat first, no need to wait for me”—he passed it along.
Around 6:30, the housekeeper asked, “Madam, would you like to have dinner now?”
Usually, when Chi Lengzhao had business dinners, Shen Zhixi would eat at 6:30 sharp.
Shen Zhixi was sitting on the sofa, still watching the variety show. “No, I’ll wait. Let’s eat together.”
Huazi came over with a plate of snacks. Shen Zhixi picked up a piece casually and nibbled on it slowly.
At 7:35 in the evening, Chi Lengzhao arrived home.
Huazi happened to be at the door. “Miss Chi, you’re back.”
“It’s Huazi. What are you doing here? Has your lady had dinner yet?”
“Not yet. She’s waiting for you. I was fixing this post—it got a little loose.”
There were two sharp knocks.
“Wow, Miss Chi, you’re amazing. I’ve been knocking at this for ten minutes and you fixed it with two hits. Huh, what’s that you’re carrying?”
“I can’t tell you yet. You’ll find out soon.”
As soon as Shen Zhixi looked up, she saw Chi Lengzhao walk in, holding a pet carrier covered with a cloth.
Chi Lengzhao walked over to her, pulled the cloth back with one hand, and said, “Zhixi, I’m counting on you to take care of this little one.”
Inside was a beautiful, fluffy cat. Shen Zhixi’s eyes lit up and she jumped up from the sofa.
“It’s a Ragdoll cat!”
“Do you like it? Pantao gave it to me. She recently got a little Garfield kitten, and the two cats keep fighting. One’s big, one’s small. They fight every time they meet, so she begged me to take in this Ragdoll.”
Shen Zhixi nodded happily. “Does it have a name?”
“His name is Zai Zai. He’s a boy.”
Zai Zai widened his eyes, ears perked, and backed away in the carrier. He looked out cautiously, full of suspicion.
When Shen Zhixi opened the carrier and tried to pick him up, Chi Lengzhao quickly reached out and grabbed her hand.
“Wait, don’t rush. Zai Zai might be a little nervous.”
The moment their hands touched, her skin was soft and smooth, even more delicate than silk. Her slender wrist felt boneless in her grasp.
A strange feeling surged in Chi Lengzhao’s chest, and her heart suddenly began to race. She let go in a panic. “Be careful, he might bite.”
Shen Zhixi’s cheeks turned red. That warm hand had already moved away, but she still felt a faint heat where it had touched her.
She turned her head and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, as if to hide her flustered expression. “He just arrived here. It’s normal for him to be a bit uneasy.”
As expected, Zai Zai was quite gentle. Even with the cage wide open, he didn’t try to run out but instead shrank further inside. Fangfang came over and said, “Miss, this cat is beautiful. Let’s feed him a little something. He’ll warm up to us soon.”
Chi Lengzhao nodded. “Let him get used to the environment first. Let’s go have dinner.”
Shen Zhixi replied softly, “Okay.”
At the dining table, the two chatted about buying a cat bed, cat food, scratching posts…
Shen Zhixi’s eyes sparkled as she talked. Her smile never left her lips.
Chi Lengzhao was momentarily stunned by how beautiful that smile was. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked down to focus on her food.
It was clear she truly liked cats.
If they went on that variety show together, doing things Shen Zhixi enjoyed, she would probably smile just as brightly.
Shen Zhixi couldn’t stop thinking about the cat. She only took a few bites before getting up and going back to the pet carrier.
It was Huazi who was the brave one. Even when Zai Zai bared his teeth in warning, she still reached in and scooped him up, gently stroking his head. “Good boy. I’ll give you something tasty in a bit.”
Zai Zai struggled a few times, but when he realized it was useless, he gave up.
“Miss, do you want to hold him?” Huazi offered Zai Zai to her. “He’s really well-behaved and doesn’t bite.”
Shen Zhixi was eager and took him into her arms, gently stroking his head and neck. Zai Zai wriggled for a moment but then settled down again.
Huazi tapped his head playfully. “Being held by such a beautiful lady, what are you even fussing about?”
Hearing that, Chi Lengzhao imagined herself as a cat, held in Shen Zhixi’s arms.
Such a beautiful woman, gently petting her fur…
Chi Lengzhao had no doubt. She would surrender too. She wouldn’t resist at all.
Shen Zhixi asked the housekeeper to tell Uncle Nian to cook a piece of fish. “Don’t use cod or sole. Use salmon.”
Chi Lengzhao glanced at the beauty holding the cat. “You really know your stuff.”
Shen Zhixi smiled. “I used to have a cat. I’ve learned a bit about what they can eat.”
Chi Lengzhao picked up a slice of tomato fish made with sole and put it in her mouth. A strange feeling rose in her chest.
Why do I feel like I’m not even as important as a cat?
That night, she followed her usual routine. After taking a shower, she walked into the bedroom. Shen Zhixi was sitting on the bed, holding a tablet, her fingers swiping across the screen.
Chi Lengzhao asked, “What are you looking at?”
“I’m picking out a cat bed and toys for Zai Zai,” Shen Zhixi replied softly, her eyes still focused on the screen. A gentle smile played at her lips. “I’ll check in-store tomorrow too and try to bring them home early.”
Her voice was gentle. She was wearing soft pink cotton pajamas, her long hair draped loosely around her shoulders. She was curled up in the blanket, only her fair and delicate face showing.
She looked just like a beautiful fairy cat. No, more like a cat fairy.
Chi Lengzhao suddenly had the urge to reach out and touch this adorable cat fairy. Just as she started to raise her hand, she remembered something from the original novel.
This soft little “cat” had once ripped out her gland.
Clearly, when this “cat” got angry, she could bite hard.
A chill ran down Chi Lengzhao’s spine. She quickly pulled her hand back and told herself to behave.
“You take your time picking,” she said as she walked calmly toward her side of the room—the sofa—without looking back.
Shen Zhixi’s hand paused on the screen.
Just now, when Chi Lengzhao passed by her, she had stopped for a second. Shen Zhixi had a feeling that she had wanted to get closer… but then she walked away.
Would she really not even spare me a glance?
Shen Zhixi looked at her as she neatly made the bed on the sofa, then gently put the tablet aside.
“I asked Sister Wang again today,” she said. “She confirmed that the second season won’t be like the first one. Just hand-holding… at most… maybe a kiss.”
Her cheeks turned red at the last word.
Since their marriage, the most physical contact they had was holding hands when visiting their families. On normal days, they didn’t even touch, let alone kiss.
“Are you okay with that?” she asked quietly.
Hearing that there wouldn’t be any overly intimate scenes, Chi Lengzhao let out a sigh of relief.
As for the kiss… she felt her heart skip a beat.
She had never kissed anyone before. Not in her past life, and not since she came to this world.
If they really had to film a kiss, well, she would just let Shen Zhixi take the lead.
Just the thought of kissing Shen Zhixi on camera, of getting close to her soft, cool lips, made her heart pound uncontrollably. Her face flushed red in an instant.
Shen Zhixi noticed her silence and lowered her voice again. “You… really don’t mind?”
“No, I don’t. I promise I’ll cooperate,” Chi Lengzhao replied quickly. She didn’t dare meet her eyes, so she turned around to adjust the blanket again. “When does the show start? I’d like to plan ahead.”
“Next month, on the fifth. It’s a shoot-as-you-go format. One episode is filmed and aired at a time. There will be seven episodes in total, and the whole thing will take about three weeks.”
That meant filming would start in twelve days. They’d stay with the crew for three weeks. Including preparation and follow-up, it would take about five weeks altogether.
Business negotiations wouldn’t be affected. The company-wide meeting could be rescheduled. Xue He should be able to submit the draft for the performance reform plan by next week.
Chi Lengzhao quickly rearranged everything in her head and asked, “Can I bring my laptop and work during filming?”
“You should be able to. There’s free time between shoots,” Shen Zhixi said.
Chi Lengzhao felt even more relieved. She pulled out her phone and began typing, reorganizing her entire schedule.
After she finished making the bed, she climbed into the covers and reached out to turn off the lamp.
“Good night. Time to sleep.”
Shen Zhixi stayed quiet for a moment.
How is this supposed to be Sweet Go when she acts like she has no interest in me at all?
But wasn’t this what she had asked for? Wasn’t this their agreement—to keep their distance?
Yet now that Chi Lengzhao was really treating her like she wasn’t there, Shen Zhixi realized that her heart didn’t feel as light as she had imagined.
Hearing the steady breathing coming from the sofa, Shen Zhixi let out a soft sigh and turned off her own light.
Could it be that I’m not attractive to Alphas anymore?
Chi Lengzhao: What do I do? I’m going to have to kiss my wife. I’m so nervous!
Shen Zhixi: What do I do? My wife doesn’t seem interested in me at all!
Over the next week, Shen Zhixi visited the most upscale pet supply store in Haibin City and personally picked out everything Zai Zai could need, from bedding to toys.
That evening, Chi Lengzhao came home late again after a business dinner. She went to take a shower before heading to the master bedroom.
Right at the door, she ran into Hua Zi, who was coming out carrying a basket. Inside were Shen Zhixi’s clothes that had just been changed.
Hua Zi looked a little puzzled. Miss Chi never used the master bedroom’s bathroom. She always showered in the guest room and usually stayed in the study. Unless it was time to sleep, she rarely entered the master bedroom.
She smiled and asked, “Miss Chi, why don’t you just shower in here? Going back and forth like that isn’t a bit troublesome?”
Chi Lengzhao replied calmly, “It’s fine. I just don’t want to disturb your lady’s rest.”
Hua Zi was surprised. She looked Chi Lengzhao up and down again with a curious expression and smiled. “You really do care about her.”
Chi Lengzhao simply smiled and opened the door.
What greeted her was a flash of white. Smooth, flawless skin. A graceful back, a delicate waist. Everything appeared in front of her eyes without warning.
Her face turned bright red. Her first instinct was to back out of the room immediately, but then she remembered—this was the master bedroom, the one she and Shen Zhixi shared. Hua Zi might still be outside in the hallway, and if she panicked and ran out, it would look strange.
So she lowered her head, kept her face down, and, with her cheeks still flushed, walked past the bed and headed straight for the sofa like nothing had happened.
Shen Zhixi’s face was just as red.
Earlier, she had discovered that Zai Zai had scratched her pajama top. She took it off and asked Hua Zi to take it out for laundry. But the one she changed into had scratches at the waist too. Frustrated but amused, she had just taken it off when Chi Lengzhao suddenly walked in.
Her heart pounded wildly. She quickly put on a fresh pajama and only then greeted her.
“You’re back.”
“Yeah. I got home a little later than usual.”
That image of her bare, soft back was still stuck in Chi Lengzhao’s mind. It felt like it was seared into her memory.
Her mouth was dry. She quickly walked over to the table, poured herself a glass of water, and drank it in one long gulp.
“I had a bit too much to drink tonight. I’m feeling a little dry. Tomorrow I’ll be heading to City C to check on a fish farm. I’ll be staying the night and coming back the next day.”
“Okay.”
Chi Lengzhao really was thirsty. She poured another glass of water and drank it before sitting down on the sofa.
“Meixi’s main business is instant food, but I think we can consider expanding. I plan to talk to your father about it soon.”
This was the first time Chi Lengzhao had brought up Meixi in front of Shen Zhixi.
Shen Zhixi was slightly surprised. In her past life, after reviewing Meixi’s declining market share, she had also decided to expand and develop new products.
What direction would Chi Lengzhao take? Would it be the same as hers?
The bigger issue was money. Meixi was short on funds, and launching new product lines needed investment.
“Don’t worry. Meixi will get better.” Chi Lengzhao’s tone was gentle but firm, steady like a comforting hand on the shoulder.
The uneasiness in Shen Zhixi’s eyes eased a little.
She didn’t know why, but she believed her.
“Zhaozhao, where have you been? The production team has been looking all over for you.”
Chi Lengzhao was sweating. “There was a sow at the farm having trouble giving birth. I had to call a vet to help. I thought filming wasn’t starting until next week?”
Shen Zhixi gave her a strange look. “Today is the fifth.”
Chi Lengzhao pulled out her phone and checked the date.
Oh no. It really was the fifth. Had that pig been in labor for twelve days?
“What do I do? I didn’t bring my laptop.”
“Forget the laptop. We’re about to start filming.”
Shen Zhixi turned and called, “Director, we’re ready. Let’s begin.”
“Begin what?” Chi Lengzhao asked, confused.
“The pool scene. You know, swimming… the kiss in the water.”
Suddenly, Shen Zhixi began unbuttoning her blouse, revealing a three-piece bikini underneath. Her body was perfectly shaped, every curve emphasized.
Chi Lengzhao froze. “What?! I thought we agreed—no pool scenes, no bikinis!”
But Shen Zhixi had already turned and was running toward the pool.
As she moved, the strap on her back suddenly came loose. Her smooth, pale back shimmered under the light, and every movement tugged at Chi Lengzhao’s nerves.
“No, wait!” Chi Lengzhao panicked and shouted, “Zhixi! Babe! You’re exposed!”
She turned and saw three cameras all pointed at Shen Zhixi. Her blood pressure shot up.
“You can’t film that! Stop filming! Shut those cameras off!”
The camera crew responded confidently, “It’s just her back. That’s allowed. It’ll pass the broadcast review.”
“She’s, my wife! I don’t care if it’s just her back. You’re not allowed to film her!”
One of the crew replied, “The agreement clearly states we’re allowed to film scenes like this.”
“What agreement?!” Chi Lengzhao was stunned.
“The additional contract your wife, Shen Zhixi, signed with us!” the crew replied confidently.
What?!
Before she could react, the three cameras kept rolling. Chi Lengzhao couldn’t stop them all at once and grew so anxious she was on the verge of tears. She turned and saw Shen Zhixi, ignoring everything, dive straight into the pool.
“Zhaozhao, come on! The water feels amazing!”
The already loosened bikini strap came completely undone, floating on the surface of the water.
Shen Zhixi smiled as she waved to her, her slender arms fair and graceful. The water level barely reached her chest, and what lay beneath was dangerously close to being exposed.
Watching her wife like this, practically revealed to the cameras, Chi Lengzhao panicked even more. “Zhixi! Don’t move! I’m coming!”
Without thinking, she jumped into the pool.
The moment she entered the water, Shen Zhixi wrapped her arms around Chi Lengzhao’s neck and leaned in close.
“Zhaozhao, let’s kiss. Look, all the other couples are doing it. We can’t fall behind.”
Chi Lengzhao glanced around. Sure enough, all the other pairs were hugging, kissing, showing off their affection. A few Alphas even cast glances at her with mocking smiles, as if saying, What’s wrong with this Alpha? Can’t handle her own Omega?
She turned back quickly, and right in front of her were Shen Zhixi’s tempting red lips—and that alluring figure barely hidden beneath the water.
“Come on, Zhaozhao,” Shen Zhixi whispered, her voice sweet and sultry.
In that moment, she wasn’t the soft, lovely cat fairy anymore. She had transformed into a fiery, seductive mermaid.
As Shen Zhixi’s lips pressed softly against hers, Chi Lengzhao’s heart trembled.
Softer than I imagined… sweet and warm.
Without realizing it, she wrapped her arms tighter around Shen Zhixi’s waist and nervously deepened the kiss.
Just when she was completely caught up in the moment, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her lips. The taste of blood spread in her mouth.
“Who told you to kiss me?” Shen Zhixi’s voice turned cold.
Then—smack!—a hard slap landed across her face. A burning pain spread across her cheek.
Chi Lengzhao was stunned. “I—I didn’t mean—”
“Didn’t mean what? You pervert! I’m going to rip out your gland!”
“No! Please don’t! I’m not her!”
“Not who?”
“I’m not…”
The name “Chi Lengzhao” felt like it was glued to her throat. She tried several times to say it, her face red from the strain, but she couldn’t get the words out.
In her mind, she was screaming—I’m not that Chi Lengzhao! Don’t take my gland! I’m not her!
But Shen Zhixi just glared at her coldly. “You’re a sick pervert. And you want to kiss me?!”
She reached out. Her nails felt like claws, stabbing deep into the back of Chi Lengzhao’s neck where her gland was, then ripping it out with one swift motion.
A chill hit the back of her neck. The air felt cold and sharp there.
Weird… it doesn’t hurt that much. But why do I feel like… I really need to pee?
“What’s wrong with you?” Shen Zhixi snapped.
“I need to pee.”
“You’re not allowed to! The kiss isn’t over!”
“But I really can’t hold it anymore.” Chi Lengzhao glanced down and saw the gland floating in the pool, slowly sinking.
A strange thought popped into her mind. The pool was sanitized. If she retrieved her gland before it hit the bottom, it probably wasn’t contaminated and might still be put back.
“Kiss me, now!” Shen Zhixi shouted again.
“But I need to pee!”
“Hold it until we’re done!”
“I can’t!” Chi Lengzhao cried, desperate to climb out of the pool. She had to go now and come back quickly to grab her gland before it sank too far.
“You’re not allowed to leave! Kiss me!”
“I really have to go!” she wailed.
“No!”
“Please let me go!” Chi Lengzhao was in tears, practically sobbing. She couldn’t take it anymore. She grabbed the ladder, trying to climb out.
“Chi Lengzhao, filming isn’t done!” someone from the crew shouted. “Get back in the pool!”
No! I have to pee! she screamed in her head. It’s urgent!
But Shen Zhixi grabbed her arm and yanked her down hard. “Get back here!”
Chi Lengzhao jolted awake with a sob.
She was panting, covered in cold sweat. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst.
“Wake up. Wake up, Chi Lengzhao. You’re dreaming,” a soft voice said.
She opened her eyes to see Shen Zhixi’s face close to hers, calm and concerned. The warm orange glow of the bedside lamp softened her features, making her look gentle and kind—completely unlike the fierce version in her nightmare.
A pair of delicate, smooth hands gently rested on her exposed arm, giving her a light push.
“What happened to you?” Shen Zhixi asked quietly.
Chi Lengzhao slowly came back to her senses. She looked around at the familiar room and realized everything she had just experienced was nothing but a bizarre and intense dream.
She let out a long, shaky breath.
Her heartbeat gradually slowed. Only then did she notice she was soaked in sweat. Her hair was damp, clinging to the back of her neck and sticking to her gland.
“Are you okay?” Shen Zhixi asked softly.
Chi Lengzhao gave a quiet “mm,” then suddenly sat up. “I need to pee,” she said quickly, pushing Shen Zhixi’s hand off her arm. Without even stopping to put on her shoes, she rushed barefoot to the bathroom and slammed the door behind her.
Shen Zhixi sat in silence.
…Looks like she really couldn’t hold it.
A few minutes later, Chi Lengzhao came back out, walking slowly and looking completely relieved. She was still barefoot.
Shen Zhixi was already back in bed, half-sitting against the headboard.
Chi Lengzhao returned to the sofa, pulled out two tissues from the small table, lifted her hair, and gently wiped away the sweat near the gland at the back of her neck.
Shen Zhixi looked at her. “Did you have a nightmare just now? What did you dream about?”
While she had been sleeping, Chi Lengzhao had looked so distressed. Her brows were tightly furrowed, and she had been mumbling to herself over and over with a tearful voice,
“I’m not… I’m not…”
Shen Zhixi had been wondering what exactly she was trying to say she wasn’t.
“I dreamed we were filming the variety show,” Chi Lengzhao replied. “I really needed to pee, but you wouldn’t let me.”
Even now, just thinking about it made her feel a little wronged.
Seriously. Who does that?
In the dream, not only did Shen Zhixi tear out her gland, but she didn’t even let her go to the bathroom. That was way too cruel and unreasonable.
Shen Zhixi froze for a moment, surprised. That wasn’t what she expected.
“What kind of dream is that? Why wouldn’t I let you go to the bathroom?”
“You just didn’t! You kept pulling me back and wouldn’t let me leave. You insisted we…” She trailed off, clearly flustered. “Anyway, you wouldn’t let me go!”
Under the warm bedside lamp, Chi Lengzhao pouted slightly, her nose wrinkled and her expression full of frustration. She looked genuinely upset.
Shen Zhixi stared at her, then suddenly burst out laughing. “Don’t worry. When we’re on the show, I promise I’ll let you go to the bathroom whenever you need.”
Chi Lengzhao: The Dream of the wife was so scary and too intense. I was traumatized, okay?!
