“What is it?” Gu Qing asked as she saw Qi Siyu open the paper bag and look inside with a face full of disdain, not even bothering to take the contents out.
“It’s… it’s the divorce certificate.” The last three words were so soft they were practically a mosquito’s hum—neither Gu Qing nor Gu Xiaoling caught it clearly.
Gu Xiaoling leaned in to peer at the paper bag and read aloud in a low voice, “Certificate… Civil Affairs Bureau…”
“Divorce certificate,” Gu Qing said flatly, reaching out her hand. “Let me see.”
Qi Siyu handed it over while muttering in distaste, “Ugly thing. Nothing worth looking at.”
Gu Qing took the divorce certificate out and gently traced her finger over the three bold characters.
This little booklet symbolized her final, complete severance from that person. For Gu Qing, it felt like a weightless shackle had shattered, as if her soul had been released.
Even though she had long separated the former and current Qi Siyu into two distinct individuals in her mind, there was always a lingering shadow clinging to her.
Her good mood was obvious, and Qi Siyu could understand why. The original owner of her body had hurt Gu Qing so deeply. Even if all physical wounds were healed, emotional scars weren’t so easy to erase.
It was just a divorce certificate—it wouldn’t affect their friendship. With that in mind, Qi Siyu found the green color of the document a little less offensive, and her mood lightened too. “You’re so happy. How about we go all out tonight and celebrate?”
“Dinner’s already here. Let’s just eat takeout.” Gu Qing returned the certificate to its envelope. It wasn’t really something worth celebrating.
Just a speck of dust—wipe it clean, and that’s enough.
She looked at Qi Siyu, whose emotional shifts were seamless, almost as if her feelings were closely tethered to her own.
It was a strange feeling… and one she wanted more of.
Qi Siyu blinked in confusion. “Wh-Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You look good.” Gu Qing’s tone was light, almost teasing.
Internally, Qi Siyu screamed like a prairie dog—Ahhhhh! Did Gu Qing just praise her?
Meanwhile, Gu Xiaoling was thoroughly speechless. She couldn’t understand these two at all. They clearly liked each other, yet they were both happy about getting a divorce certificate—and even wanted to celebrate it?
Sure, maybe this Qi Siyu wasn’t the original one, but the marriage certificate wasn’t bound to a soul. It still had her and Gu Qing’s names on it.
Gu Xiaoling just didn’t get it. If she liked someone and ended up married to them—even by accident—she definitely wouldn’t want a divorce.

Back at home, Qi Siyu was still floating as if walking on clouds.
That is, until she received a message from her mother, Gao Lanyi, while sitting at the dinner table. First, it was a WeChat contact card, followed by a photo and a single line:
[Xiao Yu, this is Uncle Wang’s daughter from next door. She just got back from studying abroad—she’s in medicine. Maybe you can get to know each other?]
In the photo, the Omega wore a white coat, her high ponytail neat and tidy. Her eyes were cool and distant, exuding an unapproachable aura.
Qi Siyu’s mouth twitched, and she replied with a single question mark.
Gao Lanyi quickly responded with a hugging emoji.
[Don’t be sad, Xiao Yu. It’s Gu Qing’s loss for divorcing you. If you don’t like Xiao Wang, Mom can introduce someone else.]
Oh my god, Qi Siyu’s head felt like it was going to explode. It had already been mortifying when Gao Lanyi had discovered her marriage certificate—how did she find out about the divorce too?
[Thanks, but no need. I won’t be meeting anyone else. Mom, please don’t worry about it.] Qi Siyu quickly typed out her reply.
This time, it took Gao Lanyi a while to respond.
[Don’t be too upset, okay? 🤗🤗🤗]
[Gu Qing and I are still good friends, even after the divorce. You don’t need to worry.] Qi Siyu replied again, before adding: [But how did you even know we divorced?]
[The Civil Affairs Bureau sent a notification letter to our house. I helped choose home delivery for you.]
Qi Siyu sucked in a cold breath. Damn Civil Affairs Bureau! Why does this world even have this kind of setting? Why couldn’t they have just sent a text message?!
After confirming once again that her mother wouldn’t try to set her up anymore, she finally let out a sigh of relief.

“What are you chatting about?” Gu Qing asked. Qi Siyu’s reaction had clearly shown she’d received some sort of shocking news.
Unconsciously, Gu Qing found herself caring about what Qi Siyu was doing. In the past, she wouldn’t have been curious about who Qi Siyu was messaging or what they were talking about.
“My mom,” Qi Siyu said, quickly swallowing her bite of food. After a pause, she decided against handing her phone over and instead summarized, “She somehow found out about our divorce and was trying to comfort me.”
“Pfft,” Gu Xiaoling burst out laughing. “Auntie probably didn’t know how happy you were about it. What kind of comfort—was she trying to introduce you to someone new?”
Qi Siyu went silent.
Seeing her reaction, Gu Xiaoling raised an eyebrow. “Seriously? You’re actually considering dating someone else?”
“No! Of course not! I refused her right away!” Qi Siyu glanced nervously at Gu Qing. She didn’t know why, but her instinct told her she needed to clarify herself—she didn’t want Gu Qing to get the wrong idea.
“Oh~” Gu Xiaoling dragged the syllable with exaggerated sarcasm.
“Gu Qing, I won’t be seeing anyone else,” Qi Siyu emphasized seriously.
“Mm. Let’s eat,” Gu Qing said casually.
On the surface, Gu Qing didn’t seem to care, but she was aware: Qi Siyu was like a delicious dessert on display—anyone could try to claim her.
Gu Qing didn’t believe Qi Siyu would fall for someone else, let alone get into another relationship. Still, a strange feeling was blooming deep inside her… something she wasn’t ready to face just yet.

When it was time to sleep, Qi Siyu boldly entered Gu Qing’s room in front of Gu Xiaoling.
Gu Xiaoling: Tch. Seriously, what kind of person…
Inside, Qi Siyu hesitated, feeling awkward. They hadn’t shared a bed for half a month—maybe Gu Qing had gotten used to sleeping alone?
“Why are you standing there?” Gu Qing asked, putting down her book.
“I… I want to hold hands,” Qi Siyu said nervously, licking her lips.
“Come here,” Gu Qing said calmly. “If you need that on set, just tell me. We’ll figure something out.”
The past few days, Qi Siyu had been snapping at everyone except her. Sure, many directors were temperamental, but Gu Qing suspected Qi Siyu was being punished for failing her mission.
System: I’m being framed!
“Ah? Ah… Gu Qing, you’re so kind,” Qi Siyu praised her instantly. “You’re the kindest, most considerate person I know.”
She quickly climbed into Gu Qing’s bed, held her hand, and finally felt at peace.
The divorce certificate won’t change anything between us!
She had always believed it, but now, she could finally stop worrying—even for those few seconds of doubt that used to creep in.
Soon, Qi Siyu was sound asleep, the corners of her lips lifted into a sweet smile.
But Gu Qing couldn’t sleep. How could she communicate with the thing inside Qi Siyu—or get rid of it?
The answers would surely come from Qi Siyu, but she didn’t want her to find out.
What if… Qi Siyu’s “purpose” required harming her?
It wasn’t until nearly dawn that Gu Qing finally drifted off.

Qi Siyu had arranged a morning off, but her internal clock still woke her up right on time.
She quietly freshened up, ate breakfast, and lounged on the living room sofa, scrolling her phone.
By 10 a.m., Gu Qing still hadn’t gotten up.
Qi Siyu started to worry—was she sick?
She crept into Gu Qing’s room and pressed their foreheads together to check her temperature.
Not warm—so no fever.
The next moment, Gu Qing opened her eyes.
Her gaze, misty and soft, felt oddly gentle—like a spring shrouded in smoky grey.
Their foreheads were still touching. The sudden eye contact startled Qi Siyu, who quickly pulled back. “I thought you were sick and wanted to check your temperature. That’s how my mom does it…”
“Mm.” Gu Qing’s voice was hoarse. “I’m not sick. What time is it?”
“A little past ten,” Qi Siyu answered obediently.
“I’ll get ready. We’ll head out soon.” Gu Qing sat up, rubbing her eyes, her mind still foggy.
“Mm-hmm, I’ll wait in the living room,” Qi Siyu said before realizing Gu Xiaoling hadn’t appeared yet either. She went to knock.
“What?” came Gu Xiaoling’s immediate response.
“We’re heading out soon. Just checking if you were still asleep,” Qi Siyu said with a mischievous grin. “Staying up late isn’t healthy, you know.”
“I’ve been up for a while,” Gu Xiaoling rolled her eyes as she came out, backpack slung over her shoulder. “I just didn’t want to walk out and accidentally see something I shouldn’t.”
“Tch. I’m a righteous and decent person. What could you possibly see?” Qi Siyu sniffed.
Gu Xiaoling snorted but didn’t engage further. Not worth the energy.
Still, Qi Siyu felt something was off—like Gu Xiaoling knew something she didn’t. Weird. Really weird.

Celebrities like Gu Qing always booked private dining rooms when eating out. Qi Siyu had already reserved one the night before.
They arrived at 11:30 a.m. and were heading to the front desk when they spotted two familiar figures: Liang Siqi and her friend, both wearing masks.
The two were arguing with the hostess. Despite reserving a private room that morning, it was suddenly unavailable.
“What do you mean I was the last one to book, and now you’re giving the room to a Black Gold VIP?!” Liang Siqi snapped.
She’d overheard Qi Siyu’s lunch plans yesterday and had carefully orchestrated an “accidental” encounter.
She even dragged along a flirt partner to lower Qi Siyu’s guard. After all, she’d heard a bit about what happened to Sun Yingying.
Her plan was simple: start with professional curiosity and mutual discussion, then use heartbreak to build emotional intimacy, then… maybe a drunken night to seal the deal. Even if she couldn’t climb up the ranks, she would walk away with something.
The overlapping reservation was a real accident. But everything after recognizing Qi Siyu? Calculated.
Qi Siyu, meanwhile, added this restaurant to her mental blacklist. If you want to cater to VIPs, then leave rooms permanently open for them. Don’t double dip.
Still, since they were already there, they might as well eat.
Seeing that both parties knew each other, the hostess asked if they were willing to share a private room.
Qi Siyu looked to Gu Qing, who nodded. The five of them sat down together.
A happy accident.
Liang Siqi controlled her emotions well. Though still visibly irritated over the room issue, no one would suspect she’d engineered this entire encounter.
“Thanks again, Director Qi and Ms. Gu. It’s hard to get a good spot on weekends,” Liang Siqi said while pouring tea.
“No need to thank us. It was fate we ran into each other. But I won’t be coming back to this place,” Qi Siyu said, clearly unimpressed.
“They’re probably trying to go high-end now. Success going to their head.” Liang Siqi sighed. “Still, their food’s pretty good. I’ve been coming here once or twice a month. I guess I’m just not important enough anymore.”
A subtle reminder: she was a regular. Her presence today? Pure coincidence.
“Oh right, this is my girlfriend, Zhao Liyun. I met her when we shared a table at this very restaurant,” Liang Siqi introduced the person beside her.
Zhao Liyun looked noticeably nervous. She knew Liang Siqi was a small-time actress, but she hadn’t expected her to be working with someone as famous as Gu Qing. When she was mentioned, she stood up quickly. “Hello, just call me Xiao Zhao. I work at a bank.”
Gu Qing offered a polite, reserved nod. Qi Siyu was warmer, “Nice to meet you. Let’s go ahead and order, shall we?”
The private room had three digital menus, so the five of them didn’t have to crowd around a single tablet.
Qi Siyu grabbed one and quickly placed it in front of Gu Qing. “Gu Qing, what do you feel like eating?”
Gu Xiaoling, who had wanted to browse the menu with Gu Qing, pouted. She thought Qi Siyu was acting childish—like she had just graduated from elementary school.
Hmph. Gu Xiaoling deliberately ordered several expensive meat dishes to bankrupt Qi Siyu!
But then she saw Qi Siyu order even pricier dishes in return.
Such a spendthrift—only Gu Qing could possibly like someone like her. Gu Xiaoling shot her a glare.
Meanwhile, Zhao Liyun’s heart rate was climbing as she watched the total bill steadily increase. A single meal here could cost her half a month’s salary. So this was what it was like to dine with celebrities?
Liang Siqi leaned in and whispered with a grin, “Once I make it big, we’ll eat like this too.”
That made Zhao Liyun laugh, easing much of her tension.
But the next person to feel nervous was the waitress who had just entered. She stammered at the doorway, “Gu—Gu—Gu Qing!”
It was like lightning struck her. If the earlier incident were to be exposed by a celebrity, the restaurant might be doomed.
She rushed off to find the manager.
Soon, the manager arrived, apologizing profusely and claiming the incident had been a misunderstanding caused by a receptionist seeking a commission. He offered to waive the bill.
After they left, Zhao Liyun’s heart began pounding again. Was this the tangible weight of celebrity status?
When would Siqi ever reach Gu Qing’s level?
Determined to overcome her nerves, Zhao Liyun channeled her professionalism as a bank employee and began trying to strike up a connection with Gu Qing and Qi Siyu.
Liang Siqi curled her lips into a subtle smile.
Aside from the earlier mishap, the meal went quite well—at least the food quality wasn’t disappointing.
By the time they finished the barbecue, it was already 2:00 PM.
The movie started at 2:30, just upstairs in the mall. The three of them planned to head straight to the cinema.
“We’ll head off then,” Liang Siqi said cheerfully. “A-Yun and I are going to try pottery. Director Qi, Miss Gu, Xiaoling—bye~” She took the initiative to excuse herself, not wanting to interrupt the trio’s plans.
“Mm, see you tomorrow,” Qi Siyu replied, relieved.
In the elevator, now just the three of them, Qi Siyu muttered, “Zhao Liyun was way too enthusiastic.”
“I honestly thought she was trying to steal my job,” Gu Xiaoling pouted. “She barely ate anything herself and gave all the grilled food to us—even I missed out!”
It was unbelievable how thoroughly someone could suck up.
“Jie, you’re not thinking of changing assistants, are you?” Gu Xiaoling, suddenly nervous, clung to Gu Qing’s arm and whined.
Qi Siyu mimicked her, “Jie, you’re not thinking of changing directors, right?”
Gu Qing answered calmly, “I won’t. I will.”
Qi Siyu: “???”
“Wait—how come it’s ‘won’t’ for her but ‘will’ for me? Aren’t I your absolute best friend?” Qi Siyu looked betrayed.
“Every director has their strengths, and I won’t limit myself to one type,” Gu Qing explained. “An actor needs versatility. Directors are better off specializing.”
“But if your project ever needs me, you’ll always be my top priority.”
Gu Qing’s sincerity made Qi Siyu feel a little sheepish.
Her smile nearly reached her ears. “Then it’s a deal—pinky promise.”
She held out her dainty pinky finger.
Gu Qing lifted her hand, linking fingers with her, their body warmth passing through their skin.
“Pinky swear—whoever breaks it will be hanged for a hundred years. Now, let’s stamp it.” Qi Siyu added, twisting her thumb into hers.
