- Chapter 57.2 - Don’t Be Afraid
Traffic bustled through the streets, and before long, Qi Siyu and Gu Qing arrived at the show’s designated meeting point.
The production team had rented an entire cruise ship, now docked at the harbor.
Under the guidance of the crew, the two boarded. Since they lived nearby, they were the first to arrive.
The host greeted them with a smile. “Hello, Miss Gu, Miss Qi! You’re the first ones here. Please relax over here while we wait for the others.”
“Once everyone’s here, we’ve got a little game prepared for you.”
Qi Siyu nodded knowingly and helped Gu Qing settle into a single-seat sofa.
Before long, the other guests began arriving one after another.
Everyone greeted the host with smiles—except Jia Junjie, who wore a dark expression.
Based on online voting, tonight’s two elimination candidates would undoubtedly be her and that Lu Hui person.
A while ago, some dirt about Jia Junjie had surfaced online, and her votes plummeted. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t catch up.
Thankfully, Lu Hui was a total nobody—no fanbase, dull personality, no social savvy. If not for her, Jia Junjie would’ve been dead last.
If only the show were eliminating just one contestant…
But alas, they were eliminating two.
“All right, everyone’s here. It’s great to see you all aboard this cruise ship,” the host began. “When we meet again, someone will be missing from our group. Who will it be?”
Right from the start, the host poked at everyone’s nerves.
“I’m sure you’ve all seen the voting results,” the host said with a sly smile. “But they aren’t set in stone. In a moment, we’ll play a little game—and the winner will receive a Triple Vote Card.”
“That’s right—your current total vote count will be tripled.”
Jia Junjie perked up instantly. If she could triple her votes, she might just escape second-to-last.
Kou Huaiping, who was currently third from the bottom, wasn’t happy at all. If one of the bottom two gets the card, I’ll be in danger!
The host continued, “And if you don’t want to use the card now, you can save it for later—it never expires.”
The other contestants immediately grew excited.
They might not be in danger this time, but who knows about next time?
Everyone was fired up about winning the triple vote card — their determination was palpable.
Gu Qing, however, had little interest. As long as nothing happened to Qi Siyu, this was just a relaxing three-day vacation.
She thought briefly of an Alpha in her susceptible period, and her heart stirred — but she quickly suppressed the emotion.
There was no point longing for something she could never have.
Qi Siyu wasn’t particularly invested either, but she still planned to play on Gu Qing’s behalf and aim for an average result — at least avoid embarrassment, and not get dragged into the program’s drama.
But… she had spoken too soon.
No one told her the mini-game was an actual serious game.
It was a multiplayer obstacle course styled as Forest XX, themed around the nine elements — gold, wood, water, fire, earth, wind, rain, thunder, lightning.
Nine players competed through various challenges. They didn’t have to help each other — in fact, sabotaging others was fair game.
Qi Siyu had loved this kind of game as a child. She was ridiculously skilled at it.
Before she knew it, she had taken first place.
Second-place Jia Junjie looked like she was about to explode. She glared at Qi Siyu and Gu Qing as if she wanted to devour them both. Her fingers clenched so tightly around the controller it seemed on the verge of snapping.
“Gu Qing’s hands aren’t even injured — why does someone else get to play for her?!”
Even the host was speechless. President Qi, why on earth were you even participating? Didn’t Director Gao explain the rules to you?
“In that case, let Gu Qing play. We’ll restart.” Qi Siyu scratched her head in embarrassment — she had been having so much fun that she forgot to hold back.
“Yes, yes! Let’s have Ms. Gu try,” the host quickly picked up the cue. “Ahem… everyone, let’s begin again!”
Jia Junjie took a deep breath. This time, she had to win!
Gu Qing had never played this kind of game before — in fact, this was her first time holding a controller. Her movements were clumsy and uncoordinated, and she quickly fell behind.
But the others, having just gone through a round, were now familiar with the mechanics. They played more aggressively, sabotaging each other freely.
Ironically, when the chaos settled — Gu Qing was the one who won.
The host could barely keep his smile from collapsing. Was this cursed triple vote card just fated to be unclaimed?!
“Well… looks like this card is meant for Ms. Gu. Congratulations!” he said, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
“Please keep it safe. When it comes time to redeem it, we only recognize the card, not the person. If you don’t need it, you’re welcome to privately trade with another guest.”
Gu Qing: …
Very well. I’ll get rid of it as soon as I can.
When the cruise ship was three kilometers from the port, it stopped.
Five manual rowboats were lowered into the sea.
“Everyone, please draw lots. You’ll be paired into teams of two. The order in which you reach shore will determine your accommodations for tonight,” the host said, bringing out a box of lots.
“Ms. Gu and Ms. Qi will be automatically paired. Apologies, Ms. Qi — we’ll need you to row for both.”
“No problem,” Qi Siyu replied calmly.
Gu Qing nodded slightly. Faking a leg injury was always most inconvenient during physical activities like this — she couldn’t contribute even if she wanted to.
The results of the draw came in quickly:
• Bai Ming’an and Jia Junjie
• Sun Yingying and Yu Shanmei
• Yan Xuan and Kou Huaiping
• Bai Ziyun and Lu Hui
That gave two Omega-Beta pairs and two Alpha-Omega pairs. The Alphas naturally had a physical advantage, which made the first two groups unhappy.
Especially Jia Junjie and Bai Ming’an — they couldn’t stand each other.
Jia Junjie’s face darkened. She was seething. If Bai Ming’an hadn’t targeted her in the game earlier, she would’ve come in first.
Now she was stuck with a delicate Omega like her — they’d either finish dead last or second-to-last.
And having experienced Qi Siyu’s fists before, she was certain Qi alone could outperform both her and Bai Ming’an.
Crappy accommodations were one thing — but being one of the two elimination candidates was the real threat.
I’ll settle the score with Bai Ming’an later, she thought bitterly.
Jia Junjie fell into deep thought. How could she turn the situation around?
Only the card matters, not the person… Even if she tried to bribe Gu Qing, the woman would never give it to her.
But I have to get it.
As they boarded the boats, Jia Junjie and Bai Ming’an ended up in the last one.
Not far ahead of them were Qi Siyu and Gu Qing.
If only Gu Qing were eliminated from the show… the card would go back into circulation. The producers would have to let everyone compete for it again.
Gu Qing doesn’t even need the show’s exposure — why does she have to compete with me?!
The dark, unfathomable sea yawned like a beast waiting to devour. The crashing waves seemed to erode reason itself.
Jia Junjie bit into her lower lip until blood trickled down. Her eyes turned crazed.
She lowered her head and began rowing furiously — slamming their boat straight into the one ahead.
The production team, watching from a nearby boat, didn’t intervene. Gu Qing was wearing a life jacket. There was no way she would drown.
But her injuries — her leg and face — soaked in saltwater, might flare up again.
If only she’d choke and end up half-dead… Jia Junjie thought with venomous glee.
The capsizing happened in an instant.
Gu Qing, seated in a wheelchair, had no way to stabilize herself. She plunged straight into the sea.
Even in this unexpected fall, Gu Qing was careful. She knew the cameras might catch everything — so she consciously maintained the posture of a disabled person, keeping her leg limp even underwater.
Gravity pulled her down, while the life jacket buoyed her upward. She was tossed and dragged by the waves, her whole body soaked.
Gu Qing couldn’t swim. All she could do was drift with the tide.
“Gu Qing! Don’t be afraid!”
Qi Siyu, momentarily stunned, didn’t even have time to brush away the water from her face. Without hesitation, she leapt toward Gu Qing.
