- Chapter 57.1 - Don’t Be Afraid
Qi Siyu dawdled around the guest room, wasting precious time and not even trying to sneak a touch of Gu Qing’s hand. She was just waiting for the arrival of her sunglasses.
Once the shades were on—no more love, no more trouble!
She didn’t want to make things difficult for Gu Qing. She would stay firmly behind the line of “just friends”—even if that meant touching Gu Qing’s little hand every single day.
Money solves everything. In just about an hour, Qi Siyu’s sunglasses collection had arrived in full.
Indoor sunglasses were designed like one-way mirrors—normal colors from the inside, with added eye protection, but completely opaque from the outside. No one could see her eyes or read her emotions through them.
Qi Siyu was thoroughly pleased and admired herself in the mirror for a while.
With her already striking features, the sunglasses added a layer of mystique—sexy and cool. If she threw on a badass trench coat too, she would probably have all the little Omegas and Betas swooning at her feet.
“Pffft! Hahahahaha…”
Qi Siyu and Gu Xiaoling ran into each other in the living room.
Gu Xiaoling froze when she saw Qi Siyu wearing sunglasses indoors, then burst into a laugh so loud it nearly shook the ceiling. “What’s wrong with your brain? Sunglasses inside the house?!”
Qi Siyu: not amused.jpg
“These are indoor sunglasses, you bumpkin with no taste!”
Their bickering was interrupted when Gu Qing came out for a glass of water. Gu Xiaoling, still laughing and clutching her stomach, pulled at Gu Qing’s arm. “Jie, look! She’s wearing sunglasses inside! I’m gonna die laughing!”
Gu Qing looked at Qi Siyu for a moment, then parted her lips slightly. “Looks good.”
“Hahaha!” Qi Siyu laughed triumphantly, hands on her hips. “See! Gu Qing has way better taste than you!”
Gu Xiaoling scowled. Sure, it did look kinda good, but wearing sunglasses indoors still screamed try-hard and dumb.
Wait a second—didn’t she recently vow to never insult Qi Siyu to her face again?
Ugh! Her mouth really had a mind of its own.
“Why are you wearing them?” Gu Qing asked as she poured her water.
“Uh…” Qi Siyu obviously couldn’t say it was to keep them from reading her thoughts through her eyes. “Ahem, just thought they looked cool.”
“They really don’t strain your eyes,” she added quickly. “Here, try them! It’s not like regular sunglasses that make everything dark and gloomy.”
She took the glasses off and carefully placed them on Gu Qing’s face.
A soft filter seemed to settle over Gu Qing’s vision, giving everything a gentle glow—especially Qi Siyu’s eyes.
“They do feel like privacy lenses,” Gu Qing said, gazing deeply at Qi Siyu. But with the glasses in the way, Qi Siyu didn’t notice a thing.
Heh, privacy lenses. Like putting a tinted film over the window of your soul.
“If we ever go out in disguise to the mall or something, we could totally use these,” Gu Xiaoling offered. As always, she was a top-tier personal assistant, putting Gu Qing’s needs first.
“Mm.” Gu Qing nodded.
And just like that, the sunglasses incident passed uneventfully. But Qi Siyu didn’t have a habit of wearing glasses, so she often left them lying around after washing her face or simply forgot to wear them entirely.
In short, the sunglasses never actually served their intended purpose at home.

The next day marked the final day of Gu Qing’s treatment—the seventh day.
The test patch they’d treated the day before had already fully healed. There wasn’t even a trace of past injury. Everyone was thrilled and even more eager to see today’s results.
Maybe because expectations were so high, time felt like it dragged on endlessly.
Qi Siyu stared at the clock again, mentally willing the second hand to speed up.
Like counting down to New Year’s, she couldn’t help starting a countdown when the final three minutes approached.
“Ten, nine… three, two, one!”
“It’s time! You can remove the medicine film now.”
“Careful! Be gentle—don’t hurt Gu Qing!”
Qi Siyu wanted to be quick but gentle—a real have-your-cake-and-eat-it moment. But this time, Gu Xiaoling didn’t even have time to glare at her. She felt exactly the same.
As the medicine film was slowly peeled away, the skin underneath was revealed—delicate, smooth, and luminous.
Soft as cream, flawless as porcelain.
Qi Siyu unconsciously held her breath. This was her first time truly seeing Gu Qing’s beauty up close.
Back when they first met, she’d already thought Gu Qing’s elegance shone through the bandages.
But now, she realized how shallow that judgment had been. She had no idea how stunning Gu Qing was—in full view.
Her nose was sculpted like jade, her brows arched like distant mountains. Her features were sharp yet graceful, radiating quiet strength. And between them, those smoky gray eyes—like clear springs in a deep ravine—pure, piercing, and unfathomable.
Beads of sweat clung to her hairline, dampening her hair. Her pale cheeks flushed with pain, adding a fragile beauty. Her lips, the color of cherry blossoms touched with morning frost, were delicate and heartbreaking.
Qi Siyu stared, completely enchanted. She didn’t come back to herself until her brain sent out a low-oxygen warning.
“I feel like this area looks even better than before,” Gao Li, the researcher, murmured, already in analysis mode as she studied Gu Qing’s face.
She reached out to gently touch the skin. “It’s honestly silkier.”
“Not a single visible pore—this beats most high-end skincare products. Jie, your skin was already great, but now it’s flawless. Like a newborn baby!”
As she spoke, Gao Li’s mind raced with possibilities. She needed results. She needed profits. If she could spin this treatment into a cosmetic line…
She was only born half a month later than Gu Qing, yet it had always been Gu Qing helping and taking care of her. If she could grow stronger, Gu Qing would be able to face anything with greater confidence.
Qi Siyu also leaned in for a closer look. Her hands itched with the urge to touch. After a brief struggle, she gave in to her instincts—gently reaching out and pinching Gu Qing’s cheeks.
Both her hands cupped either side of Gu Qing’s face. She gave a light squeeze—the skin was so smooth and delicate that it made her instinctively cautious, as if even the slightest movement might damage it.
She didn’t dare linger too long. Qi Siyu quickly withdrew her hands, though the warmth left on her fingertips lingered in her mind.
Gu Xiaoling couldn’t help but touch Gu Qing’s newly healed skin as well. “So soft, so smooth!”
“Mhm. Put the mirror away and let the others in,” Gu Qing said calmly. She was happy her appearance had returned to normal—her career in the entertainment industry was back on track.
She was also shocked by how miraculous the ointment’s effects were, and even more curious about Qi Siyu.
But all these emotions were neatly tucked away in Gu Qing’s heart—never betrayed on her face.
“Oh no, I nearly forgot! Quick, go get the others to help Gu Qing relax and clean up,” Qi Siyu said in a rush, so excited that she had almost forgotten Gu Qing was still recovering from pain and needed care.

Time flew by, and soon it was time to resume filming Carefree Vacation.
During this break, life had been quite relaxed for Qi Siyu and Gu Qing. Gu Ningmo had morning classes every day, and in the afternoons, the four of them would chat and go over scripts together.
Su Ningqing had no interest in their script discussions whatsoever—but she had an abundance of interest in her wife. Qi Siyu had no choice but to tolerate her sudden bursts of affection and random romantic antics.
But while things were peaceful in their circle, the online world was anything but calm.
Other contestants were fiercely battling for votes, terrified of being among the bottom two up for elimination.
Meanwhile, Gu Qing’s fans and haters weren’t sitting idle either.
In a previous episode, Gu Qing had displayed her broad knowledge, challenging the derogatory term “nine leaks fish,” sparking a full-blown war between fans and haters. Both sides were determined to uncover the truth about Gu Qing’s background.
Fan and hater camps each formed their own detective squads, some even traveling in person to Gu Qing’s hometown to investigate.
Both sides now claimed to have obtained definitive evidence and were just waiting for the live broadcast to drop the bombshell.
For this episode, the production team didn’t assign any missions—the contestants only had to get themselves to the harbor rendezvous point.
The simplicity of it made the contestants uneasy, suspecting the production team was up to something. Their nerves were on edge like startled birds.
Qi Siyu, however, knew exactly what was coming. With insider knowledge of the show’s plans, she was relaxed and looking forward to the drama.
“Gu Qing, there’s a chance your parents might show up this episode—be prepared,” she warned before they left.
Although in the original novel Gu Qing eventually let go of any emotional attachment to her unethical parents, the story hadn’t progressed that far yet. Those two hadn’t done anything extreme—like sacrificing Gu Qing for their son—so Qi Siyu was worried this might still hurt her.
After a moment of silence, Gu Qing responded, “I don’t have parents. They are not my parents.”
Qi Siyu: !
Shock replaced worry, and Qi Siyu was suddenly filled with questions. “What do you mean?”
“They’re not related to me by blood.” People always wonder why their parents treat them poorly, and Gu Qing had been no different.
As it happened, Gao Li, who studied medicine in university, had used a routine health check as a pretense to help them all run DNA tests.
Gu Qing was not biologically related to any of the three people in that household.
The money she gave them was simply to repay the favor of raising her—Gu Qing had a kind heart. Though truthfully, she had repaid far more than she owed.
“I see… Have you ever thought about looking for your birth parents?” Qi Siyu asked, already mentally adjusting her plan. She had originally intended to wait until Gu Qing’s biological parents were found to bring this up.
But since Gu Qing already knew, maybe they could reveal it directly on the variety show—earn some sympathy points from fans.
They could even launch a public campaign to search for her biological family. Who knows? Maybe someone on the other side would see it.
“If it’s meant to be, we’ll meet,” Gu Qing said plainly.
In this world, there are many beloved daughters who were abducted, and just as many abandoned children discarded like weeds.
Gu Qing didn’t believe she was the former. She wasn’t curious about who her birth parents were. If fate brought them together, she would repay the debt of life—but that was all.
Qi Siyu desperately wanted to tell her: You do have parents who love you. They only stopped searching because they thought you were dead.
But she couldn’t reveal her source. So for now, she held it in.
Pulling out her phone, she sent another message urging her assistant to move faster.
One more week, she thought. If the assistant still hasn’t resolved it, I’ll use the system.
She couldn’t bear to see Gu Qing suffer like this.
