- Chapter 109 EXTRA 9 - As Long As Gu Qing Is Good Only to Her…
After visiting the set, Gao Lanyi went home and told Qi Siyu’s father all about Gu Qing.
“She’s such a beautiful young girl—very polite, looks quiet and gentle, and her acting is excellent.”
Qi Siyu’s father was a notorious chatterbox. Since Qi Siyu had never shown any interest in dating from childhood, he’d always assumed it was because she’d grown up seeing too much of the entertainment industry’s filth while tagging along with him. Now that she was finally dating, it was practically cause for national celebration. By that very evening, every relative and friend in their circle knew about it.
Qi Siyu is in love!
Shi Ying had shown her face briefly while Gao Lanyi was visiting the set, afraid that if Qi Siyu found out she’d spilled the news, she’d be in trouble.
When Gao Lanyi finally got home, she immediately tried to discreetly ask how Qi Siyu and Gu Qing had gotten together.
Even Shi Ying, who was around them all the time, didn’t know. Gao Lanyi probed a little, but since she didn’t get an answer, she let it go. The children have their own blessings to find. As long as Xiao Yi’s happy, that’s what matters.
Failing to satisfy her curiosity, Shi Ying could only egg other people on to ask.
Thanks to her and Qi Siyu’s father’s combined efforts, several people were now burning with curiosity.
One of them was Qi Siyu’s younger cousin, Gao Manyun.
In her last semester of senior year, she’d already finished her graduation experiments and thesis, leaving her with nothing but free time. She bought a ticket that very night from the neighboring city to come find Qi Siyu.
The next morning, Qi Siyu opened her door only to have someone tumble inside, startling her.
It was only when she saw that familiar face—one so similar to her own—that she breathed a sigh of relief. She nudged the person on the floor with her foot.
“Hey, what are you doing here?”
When they were younger, she and Gao Manyun had been close but could never seem to see eye to eye. As adults, things had eased between them, but aside from New Year’s, holidays, or birthdays, they rarely met.
“Ah,” Gao Manyun yawned and rubbed her eyes, “I’m here to intern with your crew. Auntie sent me!”
Qi Siyu: “…”
Checking her phone, she saw that her mother had indeed left her a message.
“You study biomaterials. What the hell are you doing interning with a film crew?” Qi Siyu was half-laughing in disbelief.
“I’m here to investigate the demand for and acceptance of biomaterials among film industry workers,” Gao Manyun fibbed smoothly.
Qi Siyu ground her molars but couldn’t be bothered to argue.
“Go get yourself a room. What’s with lying at my door? Internships here don’t come with food, lodging, or pay!”
“Heh, Auntie’s covering me. But I lost my ID and can’t check in. Let me stay here for a bit first,” Gao Manyun said with a cheeky grin.
Before Qi Siyu could react, she slipped inside like a greased eel.
Her eyes roamed around the room with obvious purpose, but seeing no sign of a second person, she asked,
“Auntie said you have a girlfriend. Where is she?”
“In her own room, obviously.” Qi Siyu looked helpless. Just thinking about it gave her a pang—she had no idea why Gu Qing had vanished when she woke up.
Not only had last night ended without satisfaction, but this morning she’d also woken up without the warm, soft girlfriend in her arms. Qi Siyu was feeling seriously wronged.
“Oh, right, you’re the conservative type,” Gao Manyun said, collapsing into a chair. “Fine, go do your thing. I’ll nap here.”
Qi Siyu had been about to chase her off to replace her ID, but then thought—if Gao Manyun was here, that gave her a legitimate excuse to go “borrow” Gu Qing’s room.
That way, she wouldn’t have to wake up alone again.
“Fine. Just don’t mess with my stuff. I’ll have the front desk send you a room key later,” Qi Siyu said, and left.
Gao Manyun blinked. Why is she being so agreeable today? Oh well, nap first.
After going for her run and still not seeing Gu Qing, Qi Siyu couldn’t help herself and sent a message asking where she was.
Two minutes passed without a reply.
She can’t still be asleep, right? Not at this hour.
Qi Siyu went back to the hotel and crouched outside Gu Qing’s door.
Leaning against it, she felt pitiful and abandoned.
Before long, her phone rang—Gu Qing.
As soon as she answered, she blurted in a pitiful tone, “Where are you? What are you doing?”
“Buying breakfast. I left my phone in the car, so I missed your call,” Gu Qing said, instantly sensing her mood. “Sorry for making you worry.”
“Then I’ll forgive you—barely. But what kind of breakfast do you have to buy so early? You could’ve asked me to go with you.”
“Yesterday you mentioned Niújì pancakes, said you hadn’t had them in ages and wanted some,” Gu Qing said calmly.
Qi Siyu: “!”
Her eyes widened. “That shop’s an hour’s drive from here!”
She was moved to the point of tears. Just because she’d idly said she wanted some, Gu Qing had gone all that way for her.
“Mm. By the time you finish your run and freshen up, breakfast will be ready,” Gu Qing replied.
Of course, it wasn’t just because Qi Siyu had mentioned it—Gu Qing remembered her saying that back in high school, her parents would wake up early and drive over an hour to bring her some.
Gu Qing simply wanted to make sure that the next time Qi Siyu thought of Niújì pancakes, the first person she’d think of would be her.
It was a small, selfish wish—to overwrite the past and fill it with herself.
Otherwise, she could’ve just hired someone to deliver them.
“Then I’ll wait for you. Be careful on the road,” Qi Siyu said shyly. Love this blatant was hard to take without squirming.
“Okay. Want to stay on the line and chat?”
“Of course!” Qi Siyu practically bounced up from the floor, all trace of earlier gloom gone.
When Gu Qing returned, Qi Siyu immediately pulled her into a hug, almost in tears. “You’re so good to me.”
“You deserve it,” Gu Qing said simply. “Let’s eat.”
“Mm.” They walked to the restaurant side by side.
Gao Manyun had just woken up from her nap and came downstairs. Seeing them, her eyes lit up and she hurried over.
“Hi, hi! I’m Gao Manyun, Qi Siyu’s cousin. Nice to meet you.” She spoke fast, reaching out a hand.
“Hello, I’m Gu Qing—Qi Siyu’s girlfriend.” Gu Qing paused briefly before shaking her hand lightly.
They did look alike, though Gao Manyun’s features were softer and cuter, while Qi Siyu’s were striking and glamorous.
Gu Qing hadn’t heard Qi Siyu mention a cousin before.
First Shi Ying, then her mother, now a cousin—why were there so many people trying to steal Qi Siyu’s attention from her?
Lost in thought, Gu Qing seemed to stare at Gao Manyun for a long moment.
Qi Siyu frowned slightly and shook Gu Qing’s hand. “I’m starving. Let’s eat.”
“Okay.” Gu Qing nodded, then asked, “Want to join us, cousin?”
“Yes, yes!” Gao Manyun grinned—she’d already noticed the bag in Qi Siyu’s hand. “Niújì pancakes! I love those. Haven’t had them in ages.”
The three sat down, and as soon as Gao Manyun reached for a pancake, Qi Siyu smacked her hand away. “Wait—I need a photo for my Moments.”
If her girlfriend went out of her way to buy something for her, it had to be documented.
Seeing this, Gu Qing’s eyes softened.
“Tsk, fine, fine,” Gao Manyun muttered. “That hurt, you know.”
Once the photos were taken, Gao Manyun grabbed a pancake in each hand and began eating—and talking. She peppered Gu Qing with questions about where she’d gone to school, how her grades were, where she was from, which cities she’d lived in, if she’d traveled to certain places…
She was trying to figure out if Gu Qing and Qi Siyu were old acquaintances. After all, for someone as conservative as Qi Siyu, dating after just a month of knowing each other seemed unlikely.
Though her tone stayed mild, Gu Qing answered each question.
This left Qi Siyu feeling ignored; even her favorite pancakes lost their flavor.
She glared at Gao Manyun several times, but Gao Manyun ignored her. Kicking her under the table only made Gao Manyun dodge while keeping her questions going.
“What are you, the neighborhood committee? Why are you interrogating her? She’s my girlfriend—go find your own if you want to chatter,” Qi Siyu finally exploded.
“Whoa,” Gao Manyun flinched. “Why so angry? You scared me.”
“She’s my cousin-in-law. What’s wrong with learning more about her for Auntie’s sake?”
“Not necessary,” Qi Siyu snapped. It felt like her precious treasure was being pried into by someone else.
“Then I won’t answer anymore,” Gu Qing said, gently rubbing Qi Siyu’s hand. “I only want you to know me.”
Gu Qing could say such things without a hint of shyness—even in front of others. Qi Siyu’s face instantly flushed. “Mm.”
Watching her cousin transform from a fire-breathing dragon into a blushing maiden, Gao Manyun was amazed. I really did come at the right time.
As for Qi Siyu not wanting her to ask questions—she could always ask in secret. Surprisingly, Gu Qing, despite her cool demeanor, answered anything asked of her.
Later, when Gu Qing was resting and Qi Siyu was busy, Gao Manyun sidled up with a little stool. “Hello, hello.”
Gu Qing glanced at her coolly. “What is it?”
That icy tone made Gao Manyun uneasy—it was like dealing with a completely different person from this morning. She licked her lips. “I… just wanted to ask how you and Qi Siyu got together.”
“She doesn’t want me to tell you,” Gu Qing said, looking back at her book and ignoring her.
Feeling awkward but still curious, Gao Manyun tried, “How about we trade info? I’ll tell you her embarrassing childhood stories.”
“No need. If she wants to share, she’ll tell me herself.” This time, Gu Qing didn’t even glance her way.
Behind her calm surface, Gu Qing was quietly jealous that Gao Manyun had been part of Qi Siyu’s childhood and youth—times she could never touch. No matter how many new, sweet memories she created, she couldn’t erase that envy.
Gao Manyun left in a huff to complain to Qi Siyu.
Qi Siyu only smirked. “If my girlfriend was nice to you, that’d be the weird part.”
Hmph. No wonder she’d badmouthed Gao Manyun to Gu Qing earlier.
She didn’t believe in “loving the house and its crow.” Aside from her parents, as long as Gu Qing was good only to her, that was enough.
