Transmigrated as the Movie Star’s Little Good for Nothing - Chapter 1
The very last thing Gu Congjue saw before he died was the blinding flash of headlights.
The glare was so piercing he couldn’t open his eyes. In the exact fraction of a second before the vehicle’s shape could fully register in his mind, his consciousness went completely blank.
What followed was the screech of tearing brakes, closely echoed by the terrified shrieks of onlookers.
“Ah—! Someone’s been killed!”
The street, which had been so quiet just moments before that you could hear the winter wind howling, instantly erupted into a chaotic frenzy. A crowd gathered, headlights crisscrossed in the dark, and heavy sighs of pity mingled with gasps of horror. It felt like a surreal, tragic farce.
A few sharp-eyed bystanders crept closer, caught a glimpse of the deceased teenager’s face, and began whispering among themselves.
“Oh my god… doesn’t that kid look exactly like the city’s famous ‘child prodigy’?”
“I think… it really is him.”
Another bystander shuddered, straining their neck to get a better look at the body.
“The one who aced the college entrance exams at fifteen, and finished his entire university curriculum by seventeen?”
These whispers felt miles away from Gu Congjue. In fact, he couldn’t even tell if he was actually “hearing” them or just sensing them.
He felt as though he were floating in mid-air. Though his eyes were closed and his ears and nose felt blocked by some thick fluid…rendering him blind, deaf, and numb…he could somehow perfectly perceive the expressions and movements of the people below. He could hear their voices. He could smell the metallic tang of blood pooling on the asphalt.
Ah.
So, I’m dead.
Is this what they call the ‘flashback’ before the end?
Gu Congjue felt surprisingly calm. There was no desperate urge to survive, nor any looming terror of the afterlife.
To him, death was a release he had craved for a very long time. Ever since he graduated from university and his cruel uncle had strictly forbidden him from pursuing a master’s degree, he had lost any desire to keep going. He wanted nothing more than to escape that living hell.
The only person he couldn’t bear to leave behind was Shen Yanxing.
He had promised Shen Yanxing that he would try his best to live. To make it to eighteen, nineteen, twenty… to wait until his birthday so Shen Yanxing could celebrate with him. But he had broken his word. He had left first, abandoning Shen Yanxing in a world that felt just as torturous as hell itself.
His death had been so sudden. So sudden that he hadn’t even had the chance to say: I think I like you.
Would Shen Yanxing be frightened?
Would Shen Yanxing think he was a monster for liking another guy?
Would he ever get the chance to see Shen Yanxing again?
Before his thoughts could drift any further, Gu Congjue’s consciousness snapped, plunging him into a vast, bottomless darkness.
“…Did he… did he just blink?”
It felt like the span of a single blink, yet also like an incredibly long, heavy slumber. Before Gu Congjue could figure out how much time had passed, a sudden beam of light overhead forced his eyes open.
He tried his best to push his eyelids apart, but no matter how hard he strained, he could only manage a tiny slit. Aside from a blurry, warm glow, he couldn’t make out a single thing.
Where… was he?
“Not completely open, just a sliver,” a man’s voice whispered, keeping his tone low as he answered a woman. “He only came out late last night. It hasn’t even been a full day yet, so it’s not time for his eyes to fully open.”
“True, he’s still so tiny,” the woman whispered back, murmuring softly. “But why isn’t this child crying? It’s so strange! His breathing, heart rate, and all his vitals are perfectly normal. He just won’t cry.”
The voices drifted down from right above him. Gu Congjue listened in a half-awake, half-dreaming state, utterly bewildered.
It felt like… he was sleeping inside a massive box?
Unlike the biting, freezing wind he had felt right before his death, this box was incredibly warm. It felt cozy, comfortable, and safe.
But before he could enjoy the warmth any longer, two large hands suddenly reached through the side of the box, picking him up and giving him a thorough, firm massage.
Gu Congjue felt a surge of annoyance and confusion. Who was messing with him so aggressively?
“Wow, still not crying?” the woman said, sounding helpless. “I’ve been a delivery nurse for three or four years now, and this is the first time I’ve seen a baby with perfectly normal vitals who refuses to shed a single tear. Did the activation succeed or fail?”
Hearing this, pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place for Gu Congjue. These two people talking above him were delivery nurses.
And the “newborn” who wouldn’t cry… was him.
So… I’ve been reborn?
If he was getting a second chance at life, did that mean he would have parents? Would he finally get to see what his parents looked like?!
An unspeakable wave of excitement suddenly washed over Gu Congjue. In the transparent incubator, the male and female nurses clearly saw the tiny, reddish-pink baby twitch his hands and feet, looking as though he had just shivered.
“He should be fine. Aside from not crying, aren’t all his reactions normal?” The male nurse carefully placed the baby back down after checking him over. “What if he’s just uniquely gifted and naturally doesn’t like to cry? This is the child of Movie King Gu and Singer Xiang, after all. He’s destined to be extraordinary!”
The male nurse couldn’t hide the excitement in his voice, which in turn made Gu Congjue feel incredibly thrilled.
Movie King Gu and Singer Xiang? Are those my dad and mom? They sound like a pretty big deal!
Delighted, Gu Congjue wriggled his tiny limbs again. The two nurses shared a smile and began wheeling the incubator toward the VIP family suite where the Gu-Xiang couple was resting.
To Gu Congjue’s infant body, the journey felt long…so long that it seemed to stretch on forever, giving him plenty of time to overthink.
On one hand, he tried to recall his past life: which famous actor was named Gu, and had married a female singer named Xiang? On the other hand, he felt incredibly anxious about meeting his new parents, trying to mentally prepare himself for whatever lay ahead.
In his previous life, his existence had been treated as a mere marketing gimmick…a cash cow for his abusive uncle. The world only saw his glittering exterior and calculated the endless prize money he won. No one knew his misery, and no one ever offered genuine warmth or help.
Except for… that one person.
Now, he was reborn with all his memories intact, only to find out his new parents were a top-tier actor and a singer.
He couldn’t tell if destiny was writing a comedy or a cruel satire.
“Mr. Gu, Mr. Xiang, we’ve brought the baby back,” the female nurse said, knocking gently before pushing the incubator next to the hospital bed and plugging it into the wall outlet. “The baby still hasn’t cried, but his breathing is completely normal, so it’s definitely not an issue with his lungs.”
“All his lab results are perfect too, so we brought him over since there’s nothing to worry about. Please keep a close eye on him, and ring the bell if you need anything.”
The two men in the room answered in unison, “Understood.”
Gu Congjue was completely thrown off. What did she just say? The “Singer Xiang” they mentioned earlier… was a Mr.?
A mister?!
Did that mean he had two fathers and not a single mother?
If that was the case, how on earth was he even born? He couldn’t have just popped out of a rock like Sun Wukong!
“Sigh.” Before Gu Congjue could untangle his thoughts, one of the men spoke up. “I feel so terrible.”
“Where does it hurt?” the other man asked anxiously, his voice filled with deep concern. “Is it your stomach? Should I call the doctor to check the incision?”
“No,” the first man replied, sounding incredibly pouty. “It’s not the surgical wound that hurts. It’s my heart.”
“Just look at the baby. How can he be born looking so incredibly ugly?”
One voice was deep, steady, and exuded a mature, dependable vibe. The other voice was crisp and playful, with a slightly higher pitch and a lingering, spoiled cadence that felt like a sharp, curved blade—alluring yet dangerous.
There was absolutely no doubt about it: both were undeniably male voices!
Gu Congjue’s expectations for his new parents had been chopped cleanly in half. He still wasn’t going to get the maternal warmth he had yearned for his entire past life.
“How can a baby look good the second they’re born? Last night, when he was just cut out of your belly, he was just a wrinkled lump of red flesh. It’s only been a day, and he already looks much better, doesn’t he?” the deep, steady voice comforted gently. “Don’t worry, he’ll grow into his looks.”
The phrase “cut out of your belly” struck Gu Congjue’s understanding of biology like a lightning bolt!
In a mixture of absolute shock and sheer bewilderment, he actually forced his sticky eyelids open. Lying on his side, he stared through the transparent glass of the incubator and locked eyes with the “pregnant man” resting on the bed.
He opened his tiny mouth, desperately wanting to ask, “How on earth did I get cut out of your stomach?!” but the overwhelming shock to his tiny newborn system was too much to handle. Instead, he burst into a loud, frantic wail.
“Wahhhhh—! Ahhhhh!”
In a maternity hospital, a newborn’s loud cry is always a cause for celebration…it’s the ultimate sign of life and vitality! It proved the baby’s organs were functioning perfectly and that he had the lung capacity to make himself heard.
The moment Gu Congjue started bawling, the nurses outside rushed into the room, beaming as they shared the fantastic news. “Wonderful, wonderful! The baby in VIP Suite 1 finally cried! Quick, get someone to dismantle the incubator so the parents can hold him!”
However, Mr. Xiang…Xiang Yuyan…who was currently leaning into his husband’s embrace, was not in a celebrating mood.
Enduring his abdominal pain, he stared at the wailing little creature in the incubator and let out a tragic sigh, sounding like he was on the verge of tears himself.
“Listen to that… why does his voice sound so terrible too? He’s ugly and his voice is raspy. If we tell people he’s ours, who’s actually going to believe it?”
Xiang Yuyan sniffled and looked up at Gu Pingyue.
“Hubby… do you think they switched our baby at birth?”
Gu Congjue, who was pretending to cry while keeping his mind hyper-focused: …
Forget about other people…even I, your biological son, am having a hard time accepting this!
Granted a second lease on life as a newborn, he somehow ended up with a male father… and a “male mother”?
An arrangement that defied everything he knew about traditional biology was treated as completely normal by everyone in this room. Which meant one thing: this wasn’t the old world he was familiar with.
This was a brand-new world. A world where men could legally marry each other… and give birth to children.
