Transmigrated as the Husband of a Vicious Villainess - Chapter 24.2
She placed the package on the table. “Baiqing, come here. Let’s open it together.”
Ji Baiqing was also curious about what her grandmother had sent. She walked to Wen Miao’s side. Wen Miao opened the bundle and flipped through it. There was a set of books and some of Wen Miao’s spring and summer clothes. The colorful fabrics were dazzling. Ji Baiqing arranged the books and folded the clothes. Finally, there were two small wooden boxes left.
One box contained Wen Miao’s accessories: hairpins, necklaces, and earrings, all with exquisite designs. The other, smaller box almost blinded Ji Baiqing when it was opened.
It was a large, pure gold snake.
Wen Miao was afraid of snakes and was startled, her face turning pale. Ji Baiqing felt helpless and quickly closed the box. “Who else is afraid of snakes when they were born in the Year of the Monkey?” she asked with a smile, tapping Wen Miao’s nose.
Wen Miao, displeased, pushed the gold toward Ji Baiqing. “Keep it for me. I just hate it.” Seeing her fear, Ji Baiqing didn’t refuse. She opened it again and noticed that beneath the coiled gold snake lay a stack of food coupons and a bankbook.
Perhaps because of Wen Miao, Ji Baiqing found the gold snake quite cute. She rubbed the snake’s head before handing the coupons and bankbook to Wen Miao. Holding the coupons and looking at the bankbook, Wen Miao’s eyes grew watery.
She smiled at Ji Baiqing and said, “After I moved to the countryside, Grandmother and my aunts were always afraid I wouldn’t have enough to eat.” As she spoke, tears fell one by one down her cheeks. A beauty’s crying was indeed a sight to behold, like falling little pearls.
Ji Baiqing didn’t have the heart to admire the sight. She only felt that seeing Wen Miao cry made her own heart ache. She pulled out the handkerchief Wen Miao had embroidered for her to wipe away the tears, coaxing her softly, “Alright now, is our Zhenzhen feeling homesick? This National Day, you should go back and visit Grandmother and the others.”
Wen Miao raised her wet eyelashes and asked pitifully, “Can I still go back after moving to the countryside?”
Ji Baiqing answered firmly, “Of course you can. It’s just a visit to relatives.”
Even if it weren’t normally allowed, Ji Baiqing at least had a father who was the village party secretary.
Whether she took the words to heart or not, Wen Miao proactively wiped away her tears and circled her arms around Ji Baiqing’s neck, asking, “Then can you go back with me?”
Ji Baiqing froze. “Me?”
Seeing that Wen Miao was about to cry again, she agreed with a headache, “Fine, fine, fine, I’ll go with you.”
Although she didn’t know in what capacity or position she would accompany Wen Miao, the most important task now was to stop the beauty’s tears.
Having received the promise, Wen Miao immediately curled her lips into a smile and gave Ji Baiqing two quick pecks on the cheek. Even her voice became several degrees sweeter, enough to melt someone to the bone.
“Baiqing, you’re so good!”
She knew when to stop, letting out a secret laugh at Ji Baiqing’s crimson face before letting go and tossing the clothes they had found earlier into the basin.
“Let’s go wash the clothes together.”
Ji Baiqing coughed. “Do the clothes that were sent over need washing?”
Wen Miao held a close-fitting camisole to Ji Baiqing’s nose. “Smell it, it’s very fragrant, no need to wash.”
It was indeed very fragrant, carrying the same rose scent that was synonymous with Wen Miao. However, after realizing exactly what kind of garment she was smelling, Ji Baiqing’s face turned bright red. She hurriedly pushed Wen Miao’s hand away. “Alright, alright, let’s go wash the clothes.”
With that, she practically fled the room clutching the basin and waited in the courtyard.
Wen Miao looked at the camisole in her hand. She hadn’t expected to grab that specific item either and felt a sudden wave of shyness, quickly burying it under the pile of clean clothes. She calmed herself for a minute before stepping out of the room as if nothing had happened, picking up a bar of rose-scented soap to head to the river with Ji Baiqing.
Yunshui Village was true to its name; a river ran through the southern part of the village and almost never stopped flowing throughout the seasons. The villagers usually fetched mountain spring water for drinking or dug their own wells, so the riverside became the place for laundry.
Ji Baiqing noticed that while Wen Miao was delicate and didn’t much care for housework, she loved doing laundry. Or rather, it wasn’t that she loved laundry, but that she loved playing with water. Like an innocent young girl, she enjoyed putting her hands into the icy river water, looking surprised whenever a small fish circled her fingertips.
They usually squatted under a willow tree where a clean bluestone slab sat, perfect for scrubbing clothes. As Ji Baiqing washed her own clothes from the day, her face turned red again seeing Wen Miao’s undergarments in the basin.
“Alright, let’s hurry up and wash.”
Wen Miao gave a few affirmative hums and began scrubbing her clothes.
Today was a rest day for the village. Although the villagers were used to farm work, they occasionally had moments of laziness. Ji Baiqing and Wen Miao weren’t the only ones doing laundry; soon, two aunties arrived carrying their own basins.
Seeing them, the aunties greeted them warmly, “Oh, the Ji girl and Youth Wen are both here washing clothes.”
Ji Baiqing and Wen Miao greeted them back. Whatever Ji Baiqing called them, Wen Miao followed suit, being polite and well-behaved, which changed many people’s opinions of her. Making room for the two aunties, Ji Baiqing finished her own laundry and helped Wen Miao scrub hers while listening intently to the aunties’ conversation.
This was usually the time for gossip, and she loved listening to gossip most of all.
Sure enough, after a few complaints about housework, the two aunties started sharing rumors.
“Did you know? This morning, I saw Zhang Laizi climbing over the wall of the widow’s house next door again.”
The other auntie sighed. “Hehua is quite pitiful. Her man died so young, leaving her and her child to struggle.”
The stouter auntie spat. “That Zhang Laizi is truly a piece of work. He beats and scolds his own wife at home, yet he goes out to ruin other people’s wives.”
“Tell me about it! But no one can control him; he’s a real rogue!”
Hearing that name, Ji Baiqing’s brow furrowed tightly.
Zhang Laizi was the one in the original book who took advantage of the female supporting character and eventually forced her into marriage. At the thought of Wen Miao’s fate in the original story, the force with which Ji Baiqing scrubbed the clothes increased.
“Ji Baiqing, Ji Baiqing!” Seeing her looking distracted, Wen Miao called her name several times in concern.
Ji Baiqing snapped back to her senses and stared straight at Wen Miao. The woman felt a bit baffled by the gaze. “What is it?”
Ji Baiqing shook her head, rinsed the last garment in the river, wrung it out, and put it in the basin. “Let’s go back.”
The weather was getting hotter. Ji Baiqing had strung a rope in the courtyard, and the wet clothes hung there, dripping water onto the ground. When the wind blew, the rope and clothes swayed together.
She pulled a bucket of water from the well, poured it into a basin, and began washing vegetables with Wen Miao.
“What were you thinking about earlier?” Their hands met in the water, and Wen Miao simply grabbed her fingers, wanting to get to the bottom of it.
Looking at that delicate, slender hand beneath the water, Ji Baiqing felt a pang of pain thinking of the original ending where Wen Miao’s limbs were broken. she wrapped her own hand around the other’s, not using much force but making it difficult to escape. Her eyes were as dark as ink, seemingly bottomless.
Looking at Ji Baiqing like this, Wen Miao felt a vague sense of danger. Just as she was about to pull away, she heard the other say, “Zhenzhen, go to the riverside less often from now on.”
After saying this, Ji Baiqing returned to normal, released her hand, and lowered her head, thinking of something unknown.
“Hmm?” Hearing this, Wen Miao found it strange. If anyone else had said this to her, she wouldn’t have had any desire to ask why, let alone obey. But the one who said it was Ji Baiqing, the person she liked.
Ji Baiqing didn’t explain, only telling her to be good. Wen Miao didn’t want to be “good,” but seeing that Ji Baiqing was clearly in a bad mood, she could only settle down and wait to ask why later.
After lunch, Ji Baiqing took Wen Miao for a nap. Although it was hot, it wasn’t as extreme as in modern times. Ji Baiqing’s room was in the shade, making it several degrees cooler than outside. A while ago, Wen Miao had taken an old blanket and turned it into curtains, providing some privacy.
Right in front of Ji Baiqing, she pulled out her nightgown, a white cotton dress with spaghetti straps and small embroidered flowers. Before Ji Baiqing could turn around, Wen Miao took off her top, revealing a pale, smooth back. Then, her bra clasp was undone and tossed to the foot of the bed. She slipped on the nightgown and bent over to step out of her trousers.
Realizing she had seen the whole process, Ji Baiqing guiltily looked away. She hadn’t done it on purpose; it was just that Wen Miao’s every move was so alluring, it felt as though she were being enticed to look.
Wen Miao got onto the bed and lay prone while adjusting her pillow. With her movements, the hem of her gown slid up her thighs, revealing her shapely legs. Ji Baiqing was once again tempted.
Once the other was settled, Ji Baiqing picked up a cattail fan to fan her, but Wen Miao propped up her face and blinked her enchanting peach-blossom eyes. “Change into your nightgown and nap with me.”
Ji Baiqing stepped back. “This… I’m not tired.”
Wen Miao looked at her with a pleading expression.
Ji Baiqing: “I don’t have a nightgown.”
Wen Miao immediately laughed, her eyes curving. “How did you know I made a nightgown for you a few days ago? It’s the same style as mine!”
With no more excuses, Ji Baiqing found the matching nightgown under Wen Miao’s direction. When she was about to change, she looked back at Wen Miao and ordered, “Close your eyes.”
Seeing her close them obediently, Ji Baiqing felt comfortable enough to turn her back and change. However, what she didn’t know was that the moment she turned around, Wen Miao opened her eyes again, staring intently at Ji Baiqing. Her cheeks were red; she felt embarrassed yet couldn’t help but fantasize about Ji Baiqing’s body. Ji Baiqing had such a narrow waist, and her lower back looked toned and powerful. Her legs were straight, and her skin was very pale.
As Ji Baiqing covered everything with the nightgown, Wen Miao felt a bit of regret and quickly shut her eyes. Ji Baiqing had been worried Wen Miao might peek, but turning around to find her eyes tightly shut with her eyelashes fluttering, she couldn’t help but smile. So cute.
She poked Wen Miao’s cheek. “Alright, you can open your eyes now.”
Wen Miao opened her eyes, her amber gaze shining at her. Before she even spoke, Ji Baiqing knew what she was thinking. She felt a bit helpless. Why did the beauty love kissing so much? If she could post online right now, she would definitely ask if everyone’s best friend was this obsessed with kissing. Her friend might be a total kiss-monster.
Seeing her standing still, Wen Miao was dissatisfied. “Ji Baiqing, come here and give me a kiss.”
“Fine, fine, fine!” Ji Baiqing walked over, but as soon as she leaned down, her shoulders were pinned by Wen Miao.
Wen Miao licked her lips first, then skillfully pried open her teeth to intertwine their tongues. The leaves outside the window rustled, but Ji Baiqing’s ears were filled with a hollow ringing; she could only hear two heartbeats growing louder and faster until they synchronized.
After all, she was someone who had watched various videos; she hadn’t kissed anyone else, but she understood some techniques from what she had seen. Coupled with Wen Miao’s intentional “teaching” lately, Ji Baiqing was no longer satisfied with the woman’s clumsy technique. She cradled the back of the woman’s head with one hand and pinned her to the bed.
Looking at the startled, watery eyes, Ji Baiqing curled her lips and said hoarsely, “Be good, Zhenzhen, close your eyes.”
Wen Miao reflexively shut her eyelids, and the subsequent kiss came like a storm. Her tongue was entwined and sucked until she finally couldn’t breathe, forced to pant with her tongue lolling out. Ji Baiqing licked away the saliva in her mouth and lingered on her lips, while Wen Miao’s hands gradually tightened around Ji Baiqing’s nightgown.
She couldn’t breathe, yet her brain felt an extreme pleasure, like a tightly pulled string. It wasn’t until Ji Baiqing’s hand moved down to press against the back of her neck that Wen Miao finally couldn’t take it anymore. She used both hands to push her away, her thighs trembling as she gasped for air.
Ji Baiqing had been immersed in the kiss and felt a bit dazed when suddenly pushed away. Looking at Wen Miao’s flushed face, she was captivated. What a beautiful face. So this was how Wen Miao looked after an intimate moment. Before, it was always in the dark and led by Wen Miao. This was the first time she had taken the initiative, and she had bullied Wen Miao into this state.
Even her eyelids and the tip of her nose were red, her amber eyes were unfocused, and her red lips were parted with a glisten of moisture at the corner. She looked like a blooming rose.
Ji Baiqing, still lingering in the pleasure, leaned in to press her face against Wen Miao’s, asking clingily, “Why did you push me away?”
Wen Miao pressed her legs together, her face growing even more shamed under the questioning. Finally, she covered her ears. “I don’t know.” The last time she had been brought to this state was at night, and in her own secretive way, Ji Baiqing couldn’t see the details. But now it was broad daylight, and Ji Baiqing was nuzzling her like a puppy, making the bodily reaction during the refractory period even more obvious.
Did she guess what happened to me? At that thought, Wen Miao wanted to dig a hole and bury herself.
Ji Baiqing saw that she didn’t want to hear anything and could only shut up. Eventually, after Wen Miao released her ears, she heard Ji Baiqing mutter, “Actually, kissing is quite comfortable. It’s just that Zhenzhen has no stamina for it.”
“Ji Baiqing!” Wen Miao raised her voice and rubbed Ji Baiqing’s face messily. “I’m the elder sister, you’re not allowed to say that about me!”
Ji Baiqing was rubbed into a daze and mumbled back, “Mmm, okay.”
Wen Miao only stayed assertive for a moment before quickly losing her energy. She sat up to get off the bed, and Ji Baiqing propped herself up, asking in confusion, “Where are you going? Not sleeping?”
Wen Miao waved her hand. “It’s hot, I’m going to take a cold shower.” She threw on a jacket, grabbed a pair of underwear, and ran out.
Ji Baiqing looked at her gown thoughtfully. Why was there a small wet patch on the back?
By the time Wen Miao returned, Ji Baiqing had long forgotten the matter and patted the spot next to her, gesturing for Wen Miao to lie down. Instead, Wen Miao looked at her warily and warned, “No more kissing.”
Ji Baiqing arched an eyebrow and nodded readily under Wen Miao’s gaze. Only then did Wen Miao feel safe enough to get into bed. The after-effects of the physical indulgence were obvious; her tongue felt numb, her lips were swollen, and her body felt heavy. She fell asleep in no time. Ji Baiqing slowly fanned her, listening to her shallow breathing until she too fell asleep.
Before sleeping, she couldn’t help but complain internally: Who is the real kiss-monster here?!
As if the bed had been cursed, Ji Baiqing didn’t wake until nearly four or five o’clock. The room was stuffy. She changed her clothes, took a drink of water, and then went back into the room with the cup to wake Wen Miao. Wen Miao was incredibly delicate, bargaining with a voice as soft as silk.
Sleeping too long wasn’t good; she wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. Ji Baiqing held her shoulders to sit her up and held the cup to her lips, coaxing, “Alright, drink some water. It’s too hot today.”
After the cool water went down, the last bit of sleepiness vanished. Wen Miao narrowed her eyes, feeling lazy all over after the nap. Looking at Ji Baiqing’s plain but beautiful face close by, she leaned in and kissed her cheek.
“Good morning,” Wen Miao’s voice was still a bit hoarse.
Ji Baiqing flicked her forehead and said helplessly, “It’s almost evening.”
“Oh,” Wen Miao responded slowly, looking a bit dazed.
The two lingered on the bed for a while before Ji Baiqing remembered they needed to water the vegetables, urging Wen Miao to get up. Wen Miao followed her to the garden. The seeds sown half a month ago had grown; water spinach, cabbage, and spinach were all sprouting in a lush, pleasing green. Seeing Wen Miao in her navy blue dress flitting around like a little butterfly with a water ladle, her skirt fluttering among the vegetables, Ji Baiqing admired the view for a few seconds before continuing her work.
After thoroughly watering the garden, they picked some vegetables to take back. Seeing Wen Miao wanting to pick cucumbers, she stopped her. “Go pull some garlic. Your hands are tender; cucumbers have soft prickles that will sting you.” With that, she nimbly picked three cucumbers, one for Wen Miao to eat, and the other two for a smashed cucumber salad, perfect for this season.
After picking the vegetables for dinner, they went to the river to wash them. Near the garden, the river was upstream and very shallow, barely reaching the calves. Ji Baiqing let Wen Miao take off her shoes to play for a bit.
However, the moment she looked away, she heard the woman’s delicate cry of pain. Ji Baiqing immediately dropped her work, gripped the other’s waist, and lifted her onto the grass nearby.
“Where are you hurt?” she asked helplessly.
Wen Miao stretched out her foot; there was a bloody scratch on the sole. Ji Baiqing sighed, “I told you to be careful.” She looked around and found some hemostatic herbs nearby, plucked some, chewed them up, and applied the pulp to the wound.
She instructed Wen Miao, “Sit here for a bit and don’t move. We’ll go back as soon as I finish washing the vegetables.”
Wen Miao nodded, looking at the herbs on her foot with a smile. Ji Baiqing said crossly, “Still smiling? Are you that happy to be hurt?” She didn’t say anything more and finished washing the vegetables.
Looking at Ji Baiqing’s back in the distance, a buzzing mosquito suddenly appeared nearby. A man with a face full of bumps appeared out of nowhere, looking at Wen Miao with lecherous eyes. He squatted down to talk to her: “You’re Youth Wen, right? You’re damn beautiful!”
