- Chapter 24.1 - My Lips Are Numb from Kissing
Ji Baiqing said, “Sure, sure, wait a minute.”
Suddenly realizing what Wen Miao was actually saying, Ji Baiqing’s eyes widened. She asked in a panic, “What do you mean, like?”
Wen Miao’s breath hitched. “You said you wanted to be friends with me, isn’t that because you like me?”
Ji Baiqing replied, “Can’t being friends just be purely about being friends?”
For a moment, she was frantic. She didn’t understand why her words had been so severely misinterpreted by the “vicious female supporting character.” How could this character actually like her? She must be acting!
Just as she was about to say something to ease the awkward atmosphere, Wen Miao grabbed her chin.
Wen Miao pressed her thumb against Ji Baiqing’s lower lip. Using an unknown surge of strength, she pinned her down and bit her lip in annoyance.
“Ji Baiqing, you are annoying!”
Wen Miao never expected that all the inner turmoil and anxiety she had felt for so long were entirely one-sided. Ji Baiqing didn’t like her; she just wanted to be friends.
Wen Miao’s eyes grew hot. Scenes of her time with Ji Baiqing flashed before her eyes. The way Ji Baiqing treated her well wasn’t fake. Her own heartbeat for her had slowly accumulated, sinking deeper and deeper.
But how could she not like her?
In the past, Wen Miao would have sorted out her feelings and walked away the moment she realized it was a misunderstanding. But now, looking at the panicked youth before her, she couldn’t bring herself to let go.
Let’s try, just in case, Wen Miao told herself internally. The worst result would simply be watching Ji Baiqing fall for someone else. At the thought of that possibility, Wen Miao felt her chest tighten. She didn’t want Ji Baiqing to like anyone else.
A flash of stubbornness crossed her eyes. Even if she had to use any means necessary, she would make Ji Baiqing fall for her.
After hearing Wen Miao’s words, Ji Baiqing’s first thought was: It’s over, Wen Miao thinks I’m annoying again. No, now was not the time to think about that. She was frantic, unsure of what attitude to take toward Wen Miao. She couldn’t hit her or scold her; the girl was a total porcelain doll.
Before she could speak, Wen Miao’s aggrieved voice came through. “Ji Baiqing, if you don’t like me, then why do you want to be friends with me?”
Ji Baiqing was stunned. “Does being friends mean I have to like you?”
Wen Miao’s logic took a turn. “But how can we be friends if you don’t like me? Aren’t you friends with Li Wenwen because you like her?”
After she used Li Wenwen as an example, Ji Baiqing realized that the “like” Wen Miao mentioned was different from the “like” she understood. It seemed Wen Miao meant the “like” between friends.
Was I overthinking it? But why did Wen Miao kiss me? She thought this and finally asked her question out loud.
Wen Miao answered without blinking, “Best friends kiss each other. But this only happens between the very best of friends, so you can only do this with me.”
From her reaction, Wen Miao could tell that although Ji Baiqing looked mature, she was actually an inexperienced girl. Since Wen Miao had previously misunderstood Ji Baiqing’s words, she blamed it on Ji Baiqing’s unintentional flirting that had moved her heart. Therefore, Wen Miao naturally had to flirt back. At this moment, she felt no guilt in deceiving Ji Baiqing, not even blinking an eye.
After hearing this, Ji Baiqing recalled videos of best friends kissing that she had seen in her past life. It seemed to make some sense.
However, she still covered her mouth and said to Wen Miao in a muffled voice, “Okay, but you can’t do this with anyone else, and you can’t bite me next time.”
Wen Miao’s eyelashes trembled. Her thick, curled lashes looked like a butterfly about to take flight. She asked, “Can I kiss you now?”
While speaking, the woman moved her face closer. Her warm breath fanned across Ji Baiqing’s face, steaming up a layer of light pink. The distance between them was too close. In the darkness, Ji Baiqing couldn’t see the beauty’s red lips clearly, but she could smell the rose fragrance radiating from her.
That scent grew more intense. The woman’s long hair fell, the ends sweeping against Ji Baiqing’s arm. Facing the unknown, Ji Baiqing wanted to retreat. She didn’t even dare to refuse, fearing that as soon as she spoke, she would end up kissing Wen Miao.
Finally, she backed away a little, wanting to negotiate. “Zhenzhen.”
As soon as those two words left her mouth, her lips were blocked by even softer ones.
Wen Miao’s lips pressed against hers. Like a kitten, she extended the tip of her tongue to lick Ji Baiqing’s lips, tracing their shape. In the darkness, the wet sensation became increasingly apparent.
The woman traced the shape of her lips, licking them until they were glistening. Later, as if testing the waters, she gently pried open Ji Baiqing’s lips, and her flexible little tongue quickly slipped inside.
Ji Baiqing’s breathing grew heavy. Her hands braced against the bed. Wen Miao lay across her chest, their soft parts pressing together, effectively pinning her down.
Her hands were sweaty. As soon as her lips parted, Wen Miao seized the opportunity to enter, swirling and sucking her tongue within her mouth. The sound of wet squelching echoed in her ears, making Ji Baiqing want to curl up.
But she couldn’t. If she fell back with Wen Miao, she was afraid Wen Miao would get hurt. So, she was forced to endure this unskilled kiss. The woman’s movements were raw, simply licking her mouth and sucking on the tip of her tongue. Ji Baiqing’s body was stiff; she couldn’t respond at all.
She felt like she was about to be cooked through. She vaguely wondered: Is this the price one must pay for a good friendship? No wonder so many people liked watching “bestie romance” videos; the comment sections easily hit tens of thousands of likes.
By the end of the kiss, Wen Miao felt a bit discouraged by the person beneath her, who was as still as a wooden post. Why is there no reaction at all? Wen Miao began to doubt her charm.
Her lips felt numb from kissing. She propped herself up, and their lips finally separated, trailing a silver thread of saliva invisible in the dark.
Feeling her leaning against her chest and panting in small breaths, Ji Baiqing breathed a sigh of relief. It was finally over.
“Go to sleep, Zhenzhen.”
As soon as she spoke, Ji Baiqing was shocked. Her voice was incredibly hoarse. It sounded, well, a bit suggestive.
Wen Miao gave a delicate hum and complained, “My mouth is numb.”
Listening to her soft, coquettish voice, Ji Baiqing felt numb herself. She rubbed her burning earlobe. “You were the one who wanted to kiss.”
Wen Miao glared at her in the dark. “You are annoying.”
Ji Baiqing felt she was getting used to that word. She humored her. “Fine, fine, I’m annoying.” After saying that, she gripped Wen Miao’s waist and easily moved her to the inner side of the bed.
With foresight, she used one hand to cover Wen Miao’s mouth and threatened, “No more talking. Go to sleep.”
Wen Miao scratched her palm with a fingertip. Ji Baiqing let go and closed her eyes.
The woman in her arms turned around restlessly, pressing Ji Baiqing’s hand against her own chest, complaining softly, “It hurts here.”
Ji Baiqing suspected the person in her arms was possessed by a succubus. Why was she so troublesome today? But reflecting on their previous position, while she was fine since she didn’t have much of a chest, Wen Miao was more curvaceous. The pressure might have truly been uncomfortable.
Ji Baiqing sighed and finally placed her hand over the clothes. She asked, “Should I rub it for you?”
Wen Miao agreed in a low voice.
Feeling the strong hand massaging her, she bit her lip to restrain herself from making a sound that was too sweet. But her body felt like a long-dried well that had suddenly encountered a clear spring. Her two slender white legs intertwined, her toes tensed, and after a moment, her round toes curled together. Her face was flushed, and she bit the back of her hand to avoid making a sound.
After Ji Baiqing had massaged for an unknown amount of time, Wen Miao’s body suddenly trembled. She abruptly pushed Ji Baiqing away, her voice panicked and fluttering. “Alright, it doesn’t hurt anymore.” Even the tail end of her sentence carried a cloying sweetness.
Ji Baiqing, having been pushed away, felt a bit uneasy. The sensation of that hard-to-control touch seemed to linger in her palm; it was soft and quite large. Hearing her say she was better, Ji Baiqing relaxed. Finally, she could sleep. She yawned, feeling very tired.
But when it was time to actually sleep, she lay bolt upright until midnight. Finally, she snapped her eyes open and touched the person sleeping beside her. This girl was sleeping soundly, while poor Ji Baiqing could only think of the softness in her palm and that sweet kiss the moment she closed her eyes. She wailed internally, confirming once again that Wen Miao wasn’t a “vicious female supporting character.” She was actually a succubus!
By 4:30 AM, Ji Baiqing was still full of energy, so she decided to get up. She cooked some green vegetable porridge, ate two or three bowls with pickles, and then headed out on her bike. Today was her first day of work, and she was a bit excited.
She sped all the way to the food station on her bicycle, parked it in a supervised area, locked it, and went to the director’s office to find Xia Hanmei. Xia Hanmei gave her the work clothes and rubber boots. Using the office space, Ji Baiqing changed and headed to the warehouse.
Today’s pig looked even fatter than the last one. She looked at Zhou Gang’s small frame with some concern. “Are you strong?”
Zhou Gang nodded without speaking.
“Alright then. You hold the front, I’ll tie the back.”
After coordinating, they prepared the knife and the bench. Each took a rope and opened the door. The pig oinked and rushed out but was eventually tied up by Ji Baiqing and Zhou Gang’s joint efforts.
Ji Baiqing shook her hands. Today’s pig was not only large but also very strong; they almost failed. They tossed the pig onto the bench. Zhou Gang positioned the basin. With her previous experience, Ji Baiqing skillfully bled, scraped, and butchered the meat.
By the time she pushed the cart to the stall to start selling meat, she was covered in sweat. Some people were already queuing early. Seeing Ji Baiqing arrive with the meat, a few cheers broke out. Ji Baiqing didn’t stop, cutting and distributing meat while collecting money and coupons. She thought that it really required two people to handle this workload.
Being a new face, people naturally asked questions while she cut the meat.
“Young lady, are you new here? You’re quite handsome.”
“Thanks,” Ji Baiqing handed the meat to the auntie. “Five ounces of meat coupons, sixty cents.”
“Comrade, how old are you? Do you have a partner? My nephew happens to be unmarried!”
Ji Baiqing didn’t look up. “Two ounces of meat coupons, twenty-four cents! I’m not looking for a partner for now! Next!”
The meat sold exceptionally fast today. Ji Baiqing felt time fly by, though the aunties and uncles were far too gossipy, nearly finding out everything about her family. By the end, she learned to respond with silence.
Actually, many people had their eyes on Wang Baozhu’s former position. But some found the smell of slaughtering too strong, others thought the work was undignified, and most simply didn’t have the strength. Many felt resentful that a seemingly weak young girl like Ji Baiqing had snatched the job.
But after buying meat a few times, they found that while this female comrade looked frail, her knife work was swift and precise. The skill involved was obvious. Over time, fewer people came to look for trouble, and Ji Baiqing’s reputation as the “Pork Beauty” began to spread.
However, there were still blind fools who liked to cause trouble. One day, while Ji Baiqing was busy cutting meat, a burly man suddenly cut the line. Before the uncles and aunties behind him could spit at him, he spoke first.
“You’re the slaughterer?” He looked at Ji Baiqing with disdain.
Ji Baiqing frowned and said impatiently, “Who are you? Line up to buy meat!” She thought he wanted to fight, but unexpectedly, he took an unusual path and lay directly on the ground, rolling around.
“My Yaozu got diarrhea and vomiting from eating the pork here! Heavens, this slaughterer must have poisoned the meat because she doesn’t like me!”
Hearing this, many people in line looked horrified. Some, however, saw through his trick. “Nonsense, I’ve bought meat here many times and never had an issue.” He was just an actor.
Ji Baiqing ignored him. “Next!”
The person behind him hesitated, walked around the man, and stepped forward. “I want three ounces of meat, cut more fat.” Ji Baiqing cut a small piece of pork belly, weighed it, handed it over, and collected the money and coupons.
There wasn’t much pork left anyway. In ten minutes, the meat was almost sold out. The man lying on the ground never expected that not a single person would help him condemn Ji Baiqing. Instead, many stood around pointing and whispering about how shameless he was. Entertainment was scarce these days; any bit of gossip could be discussed for days.
Seeing Ji Baiqing wipe down the stall and sprinkle meat scraps over him, the man couldn’t stand the smell. He finally stopped acting and jumped up. He pointed at Ji Baiqing, the fat on his face shaking. “What do you mean? You sold unfresh meat and made my son sick, and you still think you’re right?”
Ji Baiqing finally looked up at him. “When did your son get sick?”
The man choked and stuttered, “Yes, yesterday!”
Hearing this, Ji Baiqing gave a cold, emotionless laugh and picked up her cleaver. “I sold the pork on Wednesday. If you cooked it that day, he wouldn’t be sick yesterday. If you kept it until yesterday, that’s your own problem.”
As soon as she finished, the aunties around them immediately agreed. “Exactly, the pigs at the food station are killed the same day. How could they be unfresh?” “If I come a bit late, I can’t even buy any!” “This guy is just here to cause trouble!”
Originally, the man wanted to cause a scene to make Ji Baiqing lose her job so he could take over. But he didn’t expect this woman to be so sharp-tongued, easily exposing his lie. Hearing the surrounding comments, the burly man couldn’t keep up the act. Feeling embarrassed, he slipped through the crowd and vanished.
Seeing him run off, Ji Baiqing put away her knife and smiled at the aunties. “Thanks for speaking up for me.” Everyone waved her off.
Ji Baiqing’s mood wasn’t dampened by the strange encounter. After work, she pushed her bike to the supply and marketing cooperative. Wen Miao had asked her to buy several rolls of colored silk thread. Since Wen Miao hadn’t specified colors, she bought one roll of every color available.
Back home, she immediately went to the room to find Wen Miao. Opening the door, she saw the beauty standing by the window, head down, sewing clothes. Looking closer, it was the same shirt that had torn at the armpit when they went to the cooperative! The beauty was so thoughtful.
Hearing the door open, Wen Miao looked up and beckoned to Ji Baiqing. “Come here.”
Ji Baiqing walked over obediently. Wen Miao stood on her tiptoes, wanting to kiss her. Even though she had grown used to being “ambushed” lately and they had exchanged saliva countless times, Ji Baiqing still felt a bit uneasy. She instinctively leaned back. Seeing the anger in the beauty’s eyes, she rubbed her nose and explained softly, “I just got back and haven’t showered. I’m dirty.”
Wen Miao huffed. “Then get out.”
Ji Baiqing backed out of the room. Seeing that Wen Miao was still displeased, she promised, “I’ll let you kiss me however you want after I shower.”
Only then did Wen Miao glance at her sideways. Her eyes were shimmering and enchanting. If she didn’t have a furry tail wagging behind her, Ji Baiqing would have thought Wen Miao was a beautiful Ragdoll cat spirit.
She rushed through her shower. Thinking of Wen Miao’s moist, soft lips, she felt a bit of anticipation herself. But when she walked over with wet hair waiting for a kiss, Wen Miao held up a basin between them.
“?” Ji Baiqing was puzzled.
“Do the laundry.” Wen Miao stuffed the basin into her arms and pulled several garments from the wardrobe.
Suddenly, she noticed the package sent from her grandmother’s house earlier. During those few days, Wen Miao had been busy with her one-sided cold war and then focused on how to make this “wooden block” Ji Baiqing realize her feelings. Thus, the package had been delayed until now.
