Transmigrated as the Disabled Alpha Wife of the Black Moonlight and She Said She Loves Me - Chapter 51.2
Min Jiru’s face stiffened, unsure how to answer. Just then, the doorbell rang again.
Min Jiru went to answer the door. A massive bouquet of flowers immediately caught her eye, and Meng Xien grinned from behind them. “Do you like them?”
She moved to kiss Min Jiru’s pale cheek as usual. Her Minmin always tilted her head back bashfully for a sweet embrace. But today, Min Jiru ducked away. “We have a guest.”
“A guest?”
Hearing there was someone else present, Meng Xien’s smile instantly stiffened. Her gaze fell on a pair of towering stiletto heels resting on the shoe rack by the door—they looked strangely familiar.
Min Jiru took the flowers from her, and Meng Xien stepped inside, passing through the hallway into the spacious living room.
Finally, she saw the guest sitting on the sofa—Qian Lu.
Qian Lu’s eyes lit up upon seeing Meng Xien again. “Miss Meng, what a coincidence! You’re here to visit Jiru too?”
Min Jiru finished arranging the flowers and hurried over to make introductions. “This is my friend, Qian Lu. You met her at the bar last time.”
Meng Xien smiled faintly. “Yes, I remember. We met at the bar. Miss Qian must have quite the alcohol tolerance, still recognizing me even after getting drunk.”
Min Jiru, puzzled, chuckled. “Lulu is widely known for her impressive drinking. Many guys can’t outdrink her.”
Qian Lu stood up, her invitation brimming with confidence. “Miss Meng, since you’re Jiru’s friend, why don’t we go to the bar together for a drink?”
“My apologies, but I don’t drink when I’m with my girlfriend.” Meng Xien moved closer to Min Jiru, gently resting her arm around her shoulder. Her smile, directed at Qian Lu, carried an unspoken message: I already have a girlfriend, and we’re very happy together.
Qian Lu’s face stiffened, her gaze snapping to Min Jiru in surprise. “Your girlfriend?”
Meng Xien tightened her arm around Min Jiru’s shoulder, her smile growing even brighter as she answered for her. “Yes, I’m her girlfriend, and soon I’ll be her Madam. So, Miss Qian, I’m afraid my girlfriend and I can’t join you at the bar.”
Qian Lu let out a meaningful “oh,” forcing a dry smile. “No problem, I’ll go to the bar alone. If I hadn’t come today, I wouldn’t have known you two were girlfriends. Jiru, you’re quite something, keeping such an outstanding girlfriend like Miss Meng a secret from me all this time.”
Min Jiru lowered her head, her fingers tightly clutching the hem of her shirt, remaining silent.
Meng Xien opened the door, smiling politely. “Would you like me to call a car for you?”
“No, that’s okay. I’ll just get a taxi. I won’t keep you two from your private time. I should go.”
Qian Lu’s face was full of smiles, as if she sincerely regretted interrupting her friend’s date with her girlfriend. But the moment the door closed behind her, the smile vanished without a trace, replaced by a venomous expression on her heavily made-up, gaunt face.
Meng Xien pulled Min Jiru onto the sofa. “What’s wrong? Why so quiet?”
Min Jiru shook her head.
Meng Xien wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close. “Come on, are you upset that I’m back?”
“Happy. Seeing you is better than anything.” Min Jiru lifted her head, gazing directly into Meng Xien’s eyes with a gentle, affectionate gaze.
“Then why do you seem so troubled?”
“Um, I just… I feel like we were a bit harsh with Qian Lu.”
Meng Xien didn’t mention how Qian Lu had tried to seduce her at the airport. “She wanted to go to the True Colors Bar, but we wanted some alone time. We couldn’t go with her and ruin her mood, so we had to let her go alone.”
Before Min Jiru could say anything more, her lips were gently captured by another pair.
A faint fragrance lingered in the air as Min Jiru deepened the kiss, her arms wrapping around Meng Xien’s neck.
Yet, a memory from their youth surfaced in her mind.
“Xien, have you differentiated?”
The young Meng Xien blushed. “Yes, I had a high fever last night. My neck was sore and swollen, and something was oozing out. The doctor at the hospital said I’ve differentiated—I’m an Alpha. That liquid was… pheromones.”
Min Jiru’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “You’re an Alpha! What does your pheromone smell like?”
“Like White Magnolia.”
“White Magnolia? That sounds lovely! Can I smell it?”
Meng Xien nodded, her face flushed, and brushed aside the long hair draped over the back of her neck. Min Jiru leaned in, her nose searching intently.
“Hmm? I don’t smell anything.”
“Try sniffing more carefully.”
Min Jiru inhaled deeply, her delicate nose accidentally brushing against the pink, swollen gland. Meng Xien flushed crimson, her entire body trembling slightly. “D-did you smell it?”
“I still can’t detect the White Magnolia scent.”
“How is that possible?” Meng Xien wondered aloud, then her eyes lit up. “I know! You haven’t differentiated yet. Once you become an Omega, you’ll be able to sense my pheromones.”
Min Jiru blushed. “But I might differentiate into an Alpha instead of an Omega.”
Meng Xien turned to face her. “Would you rather become an Omega or an Alpha?”
Flustered, Min Jiru fled. “I’m not telling you!”
Meng Xien chased after her, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into an embrace. “Minmin, wouldn’t it be wonderful if you differentiated into an Omega? When we’re older, will you marry me? I’ll make you happy, I promise. We’ll have two children, and our family will be so happy.”
Amidst the golden canopy of ginkgo trees on campus that year, the two of them, alone in the woods, kissed slowly at first, then more passionately as their hearts raced. They embraced, kissing tirelessly, again and again.
Golden leaves drifted down, covering them in a shimmering blanket.
Min Jiru took another deep breath, but there was still no trace of the White Magnolia fragrance. Her heart ached. After all these years, why hadn’t she developed into an Omega?
“Stay focused,” Meng Xienen growled, noticing Min Jiru’s distraction. She bit her lover’s lip, and unexpectedly, a faintly salty, moist taste touched her tongue.
Meng Xienen’s eyes snapped open. Seeing Min Jiru’s tears, she panicked. “What’s wrong, Minmin? Did I hurt you with the kiss? I’m sorry.”
“No, no,” Min Jiru replied, her face glistening with tears. She tilted her head and kissed Meng Xienen again. “I love you, Xien. Only you. I love you so much.”
“Me too,” Meng Xienen kissed her tenderly. “Only you. I love you so much.”
Afterward, Meng Xienen held the warm body in her arms, pressing soft kisses to her sweat-damp shoulder, neck, and finally to her soft earlobe. “Minmin, shall we take a shower and wash off?”
Min Jiru nestled lazily against her, looping an arm around Meng Xienen’s neck. She turned and kissed her lover’s lips. “I don’t want to move. I just want to stay pressed against you.”
Meng Xien turned Min Jiru’s body towards her, lowered her head, and kissed her vibrant, alluring lips. The two exchanged another lingering, passionate kiss.
The calmness Min Jiru had barely achieved was easily stirred again. Her snow-white hands climbed onto Meng Xien’s shoulders, then slid down to her neck, caressing the soft, damp strands of her hair.
“Minmin, it’s the weekend after next. Will you come home with me?”
“Home?” Min Jiru’s foggy mind struggled to process the question.
“Mm-hmm,” Meng Xien replied, her breaths growing heavier. “I want to formally introduce you to Aunt Xu, Jianan, and the others. They’ll adore you.”
A crimson blush spread across Min Jiru’s face, her eyes unfocused, her glossy red lips parting slightly. A faint, mortifying moan escaped between them.
Meng Xien grew even more excited. “Minmin, I love you. I love you so much.”
A lover’s murmurs are the most deadly seduction, as well as the most intoxicating vortex.
Just as they were lost in the heat of passion, their bodies melting together, Meng Xien suddenly bit her ear. “Marry me, Minmin. Marry me.”
Soon, Min Jiru’s mind, growing increasingly muddled, could no longer think. Her body trembled violently as her snow-white arms tightened around the person on top of her.
“Good?”
“Good…” Min Jiru didn’t know what she was saying.
She must be dreaming. Otherwise, how could she dream of Meng Xien holding her, making love to her, and saying that they will get married?
Min Jiru’s fingers tangled in his hair, gripping tightly. Since it was a dream, let it never end.
“Doctor, shouldn’t you check again to make sure my wife is completely recovered?”
The nurses chuckled, while the doctor looked exasperated. Over the past two days, at the wealthy Miss Huo’s insistence, they had run every possible test on Ruan Nianning, even checking her pheromone function.
“Miss Huo, your wife’s vital signs are normal. She’s healthy and can be safely discharged.”
Huo Jianan finally relaxed. After Ruan Nianning changed into designer clothes, put on a mask, and wrapped a scarf around her neck, Huo Jianan handed her a hat. “You’ve just recovered. Put this on too.”
Ruan Nianning smiled faintly, refusing the hat. Instead, she squatted down. “You put it on for me.”
Huo Jianan smiled as she helped her beloved wife put on her hat.
The car was already waiting downstairs. Xiaoman got out of the driver’s seat, opened the door, and Ruan Nianning pushed Huo Jianan toward the vehicle.
Huo Jianan turned and asked, “Nianning, since we’re leaving Yuqing today, would you like to visit your grandmother’s house again?”
Ruan Nianning paused, then thought for a moment. “Yes, you haven’t really had a proper look at my grandmother’s house yet. This time, I’ll give you a proper tour.”
She no longer needed to worry about the production team. Yesterday, both Director Zhang and the Producer had sent her messages, asking after her health and urging her to rest assured and recover fully before returning to the set. Their messages showed no trace of impatience or dissatisfaction. Clearly, this was the influence of the Huo Family. Just as Huo Jianan had said, a single phone call ensured everyone showed the Huo Family proper respect.
“Alright, I’ll accompany you back to your grandmother’s house,” Huo Jianan said with a smile. Her beautiful features, with their striking contours, framed gentle black eyes that shimmered like a tranquil, sun-kissed lake. A gentle breeze stirred the newly budding willow branches above the water’s surface, and in that moment, it also smoothed the ripples in her own heart.
Inside the car, Ruan Nianning took Huo Jianan’s hand.
In Xiyan Village, a luxury car slowly pulled up to the same spot by the stone bridge as before. Ruan Nianning noticed her red car was gone and glanced over curiously.
“Don’t worry,” Huo Jianan said. “Sister Meng had someone take your car back to our place for safekeeping.”
As they passed the two households, the villagers craned their necks to watch, still weaving bamboo in their hands.
Huo Jianan glanced at Xiaoman, who immediately retrieved two identical gifts from the car and handed them to the families.
“Thank you for everything that day,” Huo Jianan said. “You let us wear your padded jackets and even let us use your bathroom to wash up.”
One of the villagers couldn’t resist asking, “Who exactly are you?”
The other chimed in, “You must be some rich person from Changbin.”
“I’m the granddaughter of Grandmother Ruan and the wife of Jianan,” Huo Jianan replied. “Our family runs a business in Changbin and we’re doing alright.”
“There were so many cars there that day,” one of them remarked. “I even saw Yuqing XX’s car! What’s your family’s connection to Yuqing XX?”
Huo Jianan chuckled. “Well, in business, it’s always good to know people. When Yuqing ran into trouble, we had to trouble Yuqing XX. Yuqing natives are really hospitable, you know.”
After exchanging pleasantries, the two approached the slightly dilapidated small building. The door had been fitted with an electronic lock. Huo Jianan explained, “Sister Meng had it changed. You were feverish and unconscious, and it wasn’t practical to wake you to ask for the key, so she simply replaced the lock. The password is six 2s.”
Ruan Nianning said, “We did need to change the lock. The original key fell into the river, just like your phone. We have no idea where it went.”
She pressed in six 2s and turned with a smile. “That’s a lot of 2s, huh?”
“Sister Meng said I was born in ’22, so the password is just 222222. Sounds pretty lame, doesn’t it?”
Ruan Nianning replied, “It does look lame, but it’s not lame at all when you think about it.”
“The first-floor room is my grandmother’s. She injured her eyes and has poor vision, so my mother had this room renovated downstairs to prevent her from falling while climbing stairs. When I was little, I’d eat lunch and take a nap on my grandmother’s bed. She’d fan me with a fan beside the bed, and when I woke up, she’d pick out a watermelon and cut it for me.”
Ruan Nianning pointed to the corner of the wall. “Back then, this whole row was filled with watermelons. Every night, I’d wonder which one I’d eat the next day.”
Huo Jianan: “You had so many watermelons to eat?”
“Mm-hmm,” Ruan Nianning said, her expression softening as she recalled her childhood. “A vendor would drive into the village to sell watermelons, and my grandmother would always buy a whole burlap sackful, which they’d haul into our house.”
Ruan Nianning led Huo Jianan through the kitchen. “My grandmother’s braised pork was delicious. She cooked it slowly over a low fire in the stove. When I was little, I didn’t understand. Once, I even kindly added more wood and straw to the fire, thinking the meat would cook faster with a hotter flame. But the pot ended up burning black, and the pot nearly burned through.”
Huo Jianan laughed heartily. “What did you do with the burnt meat?”
“We threw it away. It was all charred black, and the pot was nearly ruined.”
The two went upstairs. Getting to the second floor was a bit difficult; Xiaoman carried Huo Jianan up and then brought her wheelchair upstairs.
Huo Jianan: “Xiaoman, you’ve done well this time. I’ll give you a big red envelope when I get back.”
Xiaoman’s strength surged. “Thank you, Young Miss!”
The second floor had three rooms. Ruan Nianning pointed to the largest room, where the broken window had already been replaced with a new one.
“This was my parents’ room. Later, when Zou Guohua became successful in business, he rarely came back. Most of the time, it was just my mother and me living here.”
Huo Jianan remarked, “You really don’t seem close to your father.”
Ruan Nianning admitted, “No, I hate him. He’s a scumbag. My father is son-in-law; back then, my grandmother’s family was well-off, with my grandfather owning a factory in town. My grandmother only had one daughter, my mother, and she didn’t want her to leave home, so she took an in-law son-in-law. My mother was famous for her beauty in these parts, and plenty of men wanted to join the family, but she fell for Zou Guohua—a fair-skinned man who knew how to please women. My mother fell head over heels for him.”
Huo Jianan recalled that visit to Xiyan Village. Even though Zou Guohua was past fifty, she could still see traces of his youthful handsomeness.
“Zou Guohua was initially quite content with his situation. But when my mother became pregnant with me, my grandfather died in an accident, and Zou Guohua naturally took over the factory. To be fair, he did have some business acumen.”
“He was originally from Changbin anyway, and he quickly expanded his business there. Within a few years, he bought a large house in Changbin and moved my mother and me there. My grandmother stayed for a while, but then returned to Xiyan Village, saying she preferred it there—she’d lived there for decades and was used to the smell of bamboo.”
“My mother brought her back and asked our neighbors in the village to help look after my grandmother. After I started school, I spent every summer vacation in Xiyan Village.”
Huo Jianan: “You must have had a lot of fun here during the summer?”
“Absolutely! I love coming here during the summer. The mountains are covered in bamboo, making it so cool. We drink the stream water straight from the springs. I’d always play until I was hot and sweaty, then mimic my mother by cupping my hands and drinking directly from the stream—it’s so sweet. My mother used to say that tea brewed with this water is exceptionally fragrant.”
As she spoke, her beautiful eyes sparkled, their corners curving upward, and an involuntary smile played on her lips. It was clear she cherished every summer spent here.
“You know, I didn’t always go by Ruan Nianning. I changed my name later.”
After her mother’s tragic death, Ruan Nianning had resolved to avenge her, and in doing so, she changed her name.
Huo Jianan: “What was your original name?”
“Zou Yan’an. The ‘yan’ is from Xiyan Village, and the ‘an’ is from ‘Anning’—peaceful.”
Huo Jianan nodded. “Zou Yan’an—it’s a lovely name. It sounds like a classically educated beauty with a proud and aloof demeanor.”
“You can tell all that just from the name?”
“Mm-hmm. It’s a feeling. Besides, this kind of classical beauty has high standards for a partner. She might even be the type to say, ‘Amidst heaven and earth, only Wang Lang is worthy.'”
Ruan Nianning smiled. “You’re talking about the renowned scholar Xie Daoyun, aren’t you?”
“Exactly! The Wang and Xie families were both top-tier aristocrats at the time. Unfortunately, later events proved that her husband was indeed a complete fool.”
Ruan Nianning chuckled. “As long as you’re not a fool, that’s all that matters.”
Huo Jianan laughed. “Thank you, thank you! Thank you, my dear wife, for your vote of confidence!”
“Come on, I’ll show you the other two rooms.”
The other two rooms were clearly a girl’s. One had pink wallpaper and adorable furniture, with two little princess dolls on the headboard.
“This was your room when you were little?”
“Mm-hmm.” Ruan Nianning sat down at the small table by the window, gazing outside. “I used to sit here and watch the bamboo grove. When the village kids came to play, they’d call to me from under the window. Then I’d go downstairs and share the snacks and candies I brought from Changbin with them.”
“You were quite generous as a child.”
“I didn’t give to just anyone. I shared with my close friends, but not with those nasty kids.”
“Who were the nasty ones?”
“There were a few boys who called me ugly, said my braids looked bad, and complained about my hairpins. I definitely didn’t give them any candy.”
Huo Jianan burst into laughter. “Ugly? You? You’re definitely a beauty in the making! And since you’re back from Changbin, you must be dressed in the latest fashion. How could you possibly be ugly?”
Ruan Nianning chuckled. “Well, since they called me ugly, I refused to share my treats with them. Seeing them drool with hunger, I knew they wanted it too, but I just wouldn’t give in!”
“Hahaha, you were quite adorable as a child. You did the right thing—don’t give them any treats! They brought it on themselves with their rude mouths. Serves them right for missing out on the good stuff.”
Ruan Nianning looked surprised. “I thought you’d be like my mom, calling me stingy and rude.”
“Why would I? Kids are different from adults—they express their likes and dislikes directly. They insulted you first, so if anyone’s rude, it’s them.”
Ruan Nianning jumped up from her stool, her eyes sparkling. “If we’d been friends as kids, we would have had so much fun!”
“Absolutely! As long as you shared those delicious treats I’d never tasted before, I’d have praised your beauty endlessly. You could even have me call you ‘Fairy Sister’!”
Ruan Nianning laughed heartily. “You’re such a flatterer!”
“Kids don’t understand flattery. All that matters is the good food!”
Ruan Nianning pushed Huo Jianan into another room. The room was empty, with no wallpaper on the walls.
Huo Jianan turned and asked, “What’s this room for?”
The smile in Ruan Nianning’s eyes faded. “It was for my younger brother. My mother became pregnant with him later, but she had a miscarriage. The room has been empty ever since.”
Huo Jianan froze, noticing Ruan Nianning’s mood had visibly darkened. Her downcast gaze suggested she was dwelling on unhappy memories.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.”
“It’s alright. It’s all in the past. Maybe this is just fate. Zou Guohua really wanted a son, an Alpha would have been ideal. But I’m just a daughter. After my brother’s loss, my mother desperately hoped I would differentiate into an Alpha. But when I finally differentiated at ten, I became an Omega.”
Ruan Nianning’s voice was flat. “I remember that day at the hospital. Zou Guohua sighed repeatedly, asking over and over, ‘Why isn’t it an Alpha? Why isn’t it an Alpha?’ My mother kept her head down, too afraid to say a word.”
In this world, most girls differentiate between the ages of 7 and 14, though some do so later, up to the age of 21. Boys, on the other hand, differentiate one or two years later than girls.
“Nianning,” Huo Jianan said, taking hold of one of Ruan Nianning’s hands, which hung loosely at her side. She clasped the soft, slightly cool hand in her own. “Don’t worry about what Zou Guohua thinks. What’s wrong with being an Omega? You’re beautiful, intelligent, gentle, and lovable. Look at Grandmother—she’s also an Omega. She’s shrewd and capable, running the Huo family affairs with such efficiency that many Alphas can’t match her. And then there’s Sister Song, another Omega. She’s a Film Empress who’s won every award possible, a superstar with countless fans.”
“Thank you,” Ruan Nianning said with a faint smile. “I know. I don’t care whether Zou Guohua is happy or not. I’m perfectly content as I am—with a career I love, friends like Sister Song, and…”
“And what?” Huo Jianan asked, smiling at her.
Their eyes met. Ruan Nianning’s beautiful eyes sparkled with a bright, lively light, as quick and spirited as a fawn’s.
“And…” Ruan Nianning suddenly leaned down and gently kissed Jianan on the lips before darting away, her snow-white cheeks flushed with a lovely crimson. “I won’t tell you.”
