Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 49
Chapter 49
Under her soothing touch, Jiwanching’s emotions calmed down a little, but she still couldn’t wake up. She was constantly dreaming, dreaming that the shareholders’ meeting failed and she was driven out of the meeting room by those people. Her mother’s familiar voice came from a distance, saying, “Wanqing, you’re too weak. You deserve to be bullied.”
Then the dream turned. The shareholders’ meeting went smoothly. Everyone was willing to let her be the interim head of the Ji Corporation, provided she first presented a reasonable solution. She held the proposal on the stage, but for a long time, she couldn’t say a single word. Someone started to jeer and curse her, saying she was only putting on a show by relying on the shares her mother left her and that she wasn’t even as good as Ji Teng. They said she didn’t deserve to be the CEO and a group of people rushed up to drive her away.
She was kicked out of the meeting room. The media swarmed her, flashbulbs flashing. Many reporters shoved microphones in her face. Jiang He was also holding a microphone, at the very front.
“Jiwanching, you were so high and mighty in the meeting room for the position of CEO of the Ji Corporation, so why did you not mention a word about the marriage that was forced upon you?”
“Yeah, yeah. General Manager Ji, what do you think about your father and your stepmother arranging this marriage to bring you good luck?”
“Jiwanching, give me back my Xiaxia. She’s mine. Someone like you doesn’t deserve to have her!”
…
The dream shifted. From time to time, she would call out Cen Xia’s name and sob. When Cen Xia kissed her, she would stop crying and just shed silent tears, unable to wake up.
The car entered the villa area around four in the afternoon. The IV drip was finished, but Jiwanching still hadn’t woken up. Yan Shuang came over to remove the needle.
Cen Xia asked, “No more IV drips?”
“No more. She’s just too tired. All she needs is a good rest!”
A good rest? Cen Xia said, “She’s been dreaming the whole time and crying the whole way. She’s not getting any real rest.”
Dr. Yan put away the needle and said without politeness, “You figure it out!”
Cen Xia was a little angry at his hands-off attitude throughout the ride, but she didn’t say anything. She carried Jiwanching out of the car. After only a few steps, Yan Shuang suddenly offered advice from behind her. “You should talk to her!”
This person was really asking for a beating today. When her sister woke up, she would definitely tell on him! Cen Xia thought to herself as she carried Jiwanching into the house.
The few kids in the living room who were gossiping were excited to see them. They ran over. “Sister Cen Xia, you’re back!”
Cen Xia nodded and said, “We’re back. What did you guys have for lunch?”
She was a friendly and easygoing person and always got along well with these students. They didn’t avoid her when they were chatting.
A girl walked over to take her bag and looked at Jiwanching. She said, “We saw the trending topics. Sister Wanqing was so cool today, especially when she blocked you and scared away the security guards with just her eyes. She’s so dominant! We’re practically obsessed!”
After saying that, she didn’t forget to ask in front of Cen Xia, “Sister Cen Xia, what do you think?”
Cen Xia “Mhmm,” her face didn’t show much reaction, but she felt wronged inside. She was the dominant one.
The girl seemed to have remembered something and said indignantly, “Those people are so awful. They made Sister Wanqing suffer so much. Will they go to jail, Sister Cen Xia?”
Cen Xia felt a warmth in her heart. She just smiled faintly and didn’t reply to them. She carried Jiwanching upstairs, and the girls followed.
“Sister Cen Xia, Sister Wanqing is going to be busy from now on, right? Can she handle it with her health? I feel so bad for her!”
The kids were very empathetic. Cen Xia looked at the person in her arms. After a while, she said, “She can. Your Sister Wanqing is very strong!”
“Of course! Sister Wanqing is our dorm’s idol!”
They arrived at the third floor. The girl helped open the door. Shanqing poked its head out, then shrank back. It was still a little scared of people, but not as much as before.
Cen Xia asked, “Do you want to come in and play with Shanqing?”
The girls’ faces lit up with expectation, but then they became dejected and said, “No, Sister Cen Xia. Sister Wanqing needs to rest. Let her get a good rest!”
They were very sensible and considerate. Cen Xia smiled and said, “Then when Wanqing is feeling better, I’ll have her sign something for you.”
The girls smiled, looking very happy.
Cen Xia carried Jiwanching into the room. Shanqing wound around her feet. She placed her on the sofa, went to the bathroom to run water, and found some clothes for her to change into. When she came out, Shanqing was licking Jiwanching’s forehead, but she still hadn’t woken up.
Cen Xia said, “Shanqing, don’t bully Sister. She’s not feeling well!”
Shanqing ignored her and continued to nuzzle her chest with its head.
She picked Jiwanching up from the sofa and walked toward the bathroom.
Shanqing’s entire body was hanging from her calf, its teeth biting her leg.
In its subconscious, every time Cen Xia carried her into this small room, there would be the sound of running water and some strange noises. Afterward, she would drag her out, a long limp body, like a dead prey.
Cen Xia used her other foot to pry the little furball off and closed the bathroom door. It meowed outside, scratching the frosted glass door, making a squeaking sound.
Jiwanching was still unconscious. She put her in the water, rubbed fragrant body wash on her, massaged the muscles in her legs. When she was almost done, she took her out of the water, dried her body, put clothes on her, and carried her out.
Shanqing was waiting outside, counting the time. This time was quicker than before. The strange noises were gone, and its owner wasn’t dragged out like prey. It wagged its tail and ran in front, occasionally looking back at them with curious little eyes.
Cen Xia placed her on the sofa and used a hair dryer to dry her hair. The loud hot air scared Shanqing, and it hid in its cat bed, only poking its head out from time to time.
After drying her hair and seeing that she still showed no signs of waking up, she carried her directly to the bed.
Shanqing followed her out of the cat bed, jumped onto the bed, and lay down beside her, purring.
Perhaps being in a familiar place helped. Jiwanching’s crying became less frequent. She would occasionally frown. Cen Xia watched her from the side. She remembered what Yan Shuang had said at the end: talk to her.
Cen Xia talked to her all by herself. “Sister, when I carried you up here just now, everyone said you looked like the dominant one. I’m not happy. I’m clearly the dominant one…”
Jiwanching was in a daze. She didn’t hear what she was saying, but she felt a familiar voice whispering in her ear. She felt very safe and would occasionally curl her lips into a smile. Her sleep was much better than before.
Cen Xia stayed by her side, her gentle voice wrapping her in a sweet dream. At eight o’clock in the evening, she finally opened her eyes slightly. The first thing she saw was Cen Xia’s familiar face.
Cen Xia smiled at her and said, “Sister, you’re awake. Did you dream of Xiaxia?”
Jiwanching blinked, her face a little dazed from just waking up. She tried to remember. The dream was too jumbled. It seemed she couldn’t remember anything, but she was sure Xiaxia was in it because she was already a part of her heart. As long as she was breathing, she would always carry her with her, in dreams and in reality.
She deliberately shook her head, her lips pursed in a smile.
Cen Xia was suspicious. “No? Sister, you really didn’t dream of Xiaxia?”
Jiwanching shook her head, her will firm.
Cen Xia lowered her head and kissed her. Her bright, shiny eyes were looking at her. “What about now? Did you dream of Xiaxia?”
Jiwanching hesitated for a few seconds, biting her lip without speaking.
Cen Xia kissed her again.
Only then did she slowly raise her hand.
“Maybe, maybe not. I can’t remember.”
Cen Xia felt like her heart was melting. She cupped Jiwanching’s face in her hands and kissed her lips several times.
She put her back on the pillow, her arms propped on either side of her. Most of her body was covering Jiwanching. She asked with a mischievous smile, “Did you remember, Sister?”
A light blush quickly spread across Jiwanching’s cheeks. She knew that if she didn’t admit it, her breath would be taken away in the next second, but she still shook her head in anticipation.
Cen Xia’s red lips pressed down. In a few seconds, the room was filled with hurried breaths.
Shanqing, who had just finished eating its cat food and was about to rest, came over. Seeing Jiwanching being pressed down and “eaten,” it was terrified. It used its hind legs to jump up and rescue her.
Cen Xia was once again used as a scratching post and was forced to stop. She glared at it with wide, angry eyes. Shanqing was not afraid at all. The girl and the cat were in a stalemate by the bed.
Jiwanching recovered a little. She reached out and tugged on Cen Xia’s collar. She wanted more, but her body couldn’t handle it. Seeing that Cen Xia was about to discipline the kitten, she quickly intervened to stop her.
Cen Xia was instantly like a deflated balloon. Her face was scrunched up as she complained, “It’s all your fault. You’ve spoiled it!”
Jiwanching couldn’t help but laugh when she saw her looking like she was about to cry out of jealousy.
Shanqing escaped from under her nose and snuggled into Jiwanching’s arms, purring.
Cen Xia was even more upset. She pulled the blanket over Jiwanching and turned her back to her, sitting up. Her nose twitched, like another little cat throwing a tantrum, even cuter than Shanqing.
Jiwanching couldn’t help but reach out, wanting to stroke her head, but she didn’t have much strength. She had to settle for poking her back, very gently.
Cen Xia’s body twitched.
Jiwanching called out, “Xiaxia.”
Cen Xia ignored her.
She moved again. “Xiaxia?”
Cen Xia couldn’t help but turn her head, then quickly turned back, acting aloof. “What?”
Jiwanching: “Xiaxia?”
She faced away from her. “Why are you calling me?”
Jiwanching: “Xiaxia, Xiaxia, Xiaxia…”
Cen Xia suddenly turned around, wrapped the person and the cat in the blanket, and started to kiss them.
“Mmm…”
“Meow…”
Jiwanching’s lips were blocked. The air around her was thin. Shanqing meowed from inside the blanket. Only Cen Xia was there, like an aggressor, plundering her without restraint.
After the shareholders’ meeting, the trending topics were dominated by the Ji Corporation. Zhang Yi was very efficient. Shi Ranying had caused trouble repeatedly, and with irrefutable evidence, she was put behind bars that same day. Ji Teng was still under investigation for his alleged involvement in the murder case from 23 years ago.
Ji Yanqing also didn’t escape the backlash of online public opinion. Xiao Wu stayed by her side at all times, fearing she would be mobbed by netizens. But she herself seemed not to care. She didn’t go out or hire a lawyer. She just stayed at home and slept all day, looking even more dejected than when she had just been kicked out of the Shao family.
The Ji Corporation’s crisis became a focal point in the industry. Even with the support of a few elders, there were countless eyes on her as the interim CEO. Jiwanching was under a lot of pressure and broke down in tears in front of Cen Xia several times, but it was much better than keeping everything to herself.
Jiang He was even more persistent. She no longer bothered Jiwanching. She just silently went to every hospital, looking for clues about her memory loss, because she believed that her Xiaxia wouldn’t fall in love with someone else.
Finally, on a Saturday morning, she received a call from an unknown number.
“Hello, General Manager Jiang. I’m Cen Xia. Are you free this afternoon? Let’s talk?”
