Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 74
Pei Yujiang slept until midday again the next day.
Her long-term training meant her stamina was on a completely different level from an Omega like Yu Zhiwan’s. But even during their first passionate attempt, she knew how to restrain herself, ending things when the Omega showed signs of exhaustion, though not before thoroughly enjoying herself.
Yu Zhiwan lay panting against her shoulder, legs still unsteady. After a brief rest, Pei Yujiang carried her to the wheelchair and took her to the bathroom. As she bathed the Omega, her mind wandered, but she held back, worried about overexerting her until Yu Zhiwan turned her head softly, looped her arms around Pei Yujiang’s neck, and whispered by her ear:
“Go ahead if you want. I’m fine.”
The fervor of youth surged like relentless waves, the steam-filled bathroom amplifying the heat. Pei Yujiang lost herself in the moment, only recalling afterward how unprepared she’d been, thankfully, she kept her nails neatly trimmed and had no habit of growing them long.
Late at night, the Omega fell into an exhausted slumber while Pei Yujiang lay awake beside her, quietly inhaling Yu Zhiwan’s scent. The delicate fragrance of roses mingled with the sweetness of raspberries, wrapping around her senses and stirring an endless longing.
Countless thoughts swirled in Pei Yujiang’s mind before she held her breath and gently clasped the Omega’s soft hand. Careful not to disturb her, she interlaced their fingers, content just to lie there like that.
Yu Zhiwan’s lashes fluttered slightly but didn’t open in her drowsiness.
“So, you two officially got together because of that Liu Huanran?”
A few days later, after returning to Xiangcheng from a business trip, Boss Ji met Yu Zhiwan for a meal. Upon hearing the gist of recent events with Pei Yujiang, she couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
Yu Zhiwan had few close friends, just Boss Ji and Zhao Manlin. The latter had long known about her feelings for Pei Yujiang and wasn’t surprised, while Boss Ji was aware of Liu Huanran’s existence. However, she hadn’t known about their “cohabitation” period, having been abroad and too busy to check in. By the time she returned, Yu Zhiwan had already moved in with PeiYujiang.
Liu Huanran’s despicable behavior, going as far as kidnapping an Omega, left Boss Ji disgusted.
“She’ll likely stay locked up for a while. Three drug tests confirmed long-term micro-dosing, so she’ll probably be sent to mandatory rehab,” Yu Zhiwan said coolly, not an ounce of sympathy for the Alpha she’d once shared a roof with. If anything, the thought repulsed her.
Especially that precognitive dream, where she’d gotten pregnant out of wedlock by someone like Liu Huanran and even had a daughter. The memory alone made her skin crawl.
Every time Liu Huanran called her “wifey,” Yu Zhiwan had mentally drafted countless ways to shut her up permanently. But alas, as a law-abiding citizen, she couldn’t act on those violent fantasies.
“By the way, Zhiwan,” Ji Lingxian was familiar with her, but not to the point of sharing everything. Some things Yu Zhiwan hadn’t told Zhao Manlin, let alone mentioned to Ji Lingxian. The elegant businesswoman finally couldn’t resist asking with slightly furrowed brows, “Have you offended someone?”
The case of Liu Huanran kidnapping Yu Zhiwan involved the influence of Organization A. Had it happened in Wing City, it would’ve been immediately suppressed.
They’d naturally considered the risk of exposure, which was why they’d sent minor operatives, mainly errand runners and intermediaries. After consulting higher authorities, Xiangcheng’s Public Security Bureau decided to publicize it as an anti-fraud case.
With just a bit of attention, Ji Lingxian could tell this wasn’t simple.
It all traced back to the two girls they’d met backstage at Chen Lulu’s fan meet. One of them, while pretending to take photos with Yu Zhiwan’s phone, had secretly installed a mini tracker when she thought Yu “couldn’t see.” That’s how they later found Yu alone, ambushing and abducting her on her usual route.
Xiangcheng police warned the public about rampant scams: avoid accepting items from strangers, especially suspicious scented notes, and never hand over phones to strangers, seek staff or police help instead.
Yu Zhiwan met Ji Lingxian’s concerned gaze and, after a pause, answered truthfully:
“Yes.”
“But it’s not something you should know,” she added.
“You…” Ji Lingxian was torn between laughter and exasperation, but she knew this was just Yu’s way, forthright about what she could share, blunt about what she couldn’t. If Yu refused to explain, it meant Ji couldn’t help anyway. “Fine, just be careful then.”
Yu gave a quiet “Mm.”
After seeing Ji off, Yu texted Pei Yujiang to ask if she was busy.
Pei was currently occupied with Mayor Xiang.
After the mayor’s raid on the orphanage, she hadn’t abandoned surveillance of the water plant but discreetly monitored their movements. Discovering their relocation plans, she’d preemptively installed hidden cameras at the new site without interference.
One move affected the whole game. With the water plant dealt with, Mayor Xiang also vaguely recalled the organization Pei had mentioned. Those deep in national politics knew certain factions had been locked in covert power struggles, Organization A was a product of collusion between a conglomerate and political forces.
Within Xiangcheng, the mayor still held sway. Her previous bold accusation against Wing City had been opportunistic, given their glaring vulnerability. But beyond her territory, control wasn’t guaranteed.
“The water plant should complete relocation within days. Their original site still handles drainage, but everything’s been cleared out.” Rubbing her temples, the mayor sighed. “I plan to monitor them there. Once we secure evidence, we’ll report directly to the central government.”
Pei suddenly asked:
“Mayor, are you aware of Wing City’s missing persons cases?”
The mayor froze.
“Some time ago, I discovered a cage containing corpses in Yi Lake, failed experiments. Where did these test subjects come from? Over the past two years, trafficking cases have occurred everywhere, so they didn’t stand out. Some were straightforward human trafficking for money, but others, well, not so much.”
Pei Yujiang gave her a meaningful look.
Mayor Xiang quickly grasped the implication, a chill crawling up her spine. Missing persons, human experiments, didn’t that mean her citizens were being used as free resources for those people? If Organization A could operate so brazenly right under her nose, how many other cities might they be active in?
The situation wasn’t quite that dire. In her past life, the zombie virus outbreak had been concentrated in just a few cities, with others merely affected. Organization A didn’t have that kind of omnipotent reach. But Pei Yujiang wasn’t about to ease the mayor’s worries.
She still resented how Mayor Xiang had handled or rather, failed to properly handle, her own wife, making a show of it without real consequences. So she added pointedly, “Who knows? As long as no one’s openly permitting such transactions, right?”
Mayor Xiang flushed, her face alternating between red and white.
“Anyway, there’s no progress for now, so I won’t keep you. Contact me when there’s something new.”
Pei Yujiang stretched her arms and rolled her shoulders. Standing up, she checked her phone and saw a message from Yu Zhiwan from twenty minutes ago. Without hesitation, she dialed.
“Where are you? I’ll pick you up.”
Yu Zhiwan gave her location, and Pei Yujiang told her to wait, she’d be there in half an hour.
Yu Zhiwan knew she’d been busy with Mayor Xiang lately, so the moment they met, the Omega eagerly asked how things had gone. Pei Yujiang updated her on the progress and listened to Yu Zhiwan’s input before they decided to return to Yi City for the time being.
There were two reasons: first, they could resume work at Yuerong, and second, they could gather intel there. Pei Yujiang’s earlier warning hadn’t been an exaggeration, the corpse they’d found still haunted her.
With Yi City’s leadership in transition, now was the perfect time to act.
After wrapping things up in Xiang City over the next two days, Pei Yujiang took Yu Zhiwan for a follow-up hospital visit. Learning the next check-up was scheduled for over two weeks later, she bought their return tickets to Yi City with peace of mind.
Though Yu Zhiwan’s leg was healing, she still needed to avoid prolonged standing to prevent bone damage.
Since regaining her sight, Yu Zhiwan had become noticeably brighter. Back at Yuerong, she exchanged nods and greetings with many colleagues that morning.
Pei Yujiang had entered with her but was now chatting with the after-sales department head near the timeclock. Yu Zhiwan tapped her wheelchair armrest cheerfully, her gaze fixed on Pei Yujiang. Standing behind her, Zhao Manlin couldn’t help but sigh.
“Aren’t we going upstairs together? What’s so fascinating about Pei Yujiang?”
It wasn’t like Yu Zhiwan hadn’t seen her before. Sure, Pei Yujiang was stunning, but Zhao Manlin was long past being impressed unlike the new receptionist, who couldn’t look away, or Yu Zhiwan, now that she could see again.
Yu Zhiwan countered, “Don’t you think she has an amazing figure?”
Zhao Manlin rolled her eyes and flicked her fingers toward the back of Yu Zhiwan’s head. Yu Zhiwan blocked her hand and said:
“Lately I’ve been having some headaches, not sure why. Maybe I haven’t been sleeping well.”
Hearing the words “haven’t been sleeping well,” Zhao Manlin rolled her eyes even harder:
“I don’t think it’s just poor sleep. With headaches that bad, you’re probably developing lovesickness.”
