Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 72
Pei Yujiang: “…?”
Was their relationship progressing this fast?
She’d heard of whirlwind romances, but she and Zhiwan had just confirmed their relationship. Wasn’t this too soon?
The heat on her face intensified, spreading until every cell in her body seemed to be burning up, leaving her weak and flustered as she stood by the door, pressing herself against it without thinking.
A secret anticipation rose from deep within, overwhelming her fluster and sense of propriety. After all, it was Yu Zhiwan who had invited her, she hadn’t come here to eavesdrop on purpose. So maybe…
Maybe it wasn’t that inappropriate?
Pei Yujiang thought to herself.
She leaned in closer. Inside, Yu Zhiwan’s footsteps echoed faintly. The bathroom door had decent soundproofing, but Pei Yujiang could just make out the sound of the glass shower door sliding open, the shower turning on, and the rush of hot water cascading down the Omega’s slender back.
Pei Yujiang tried to keep her breathing steady, her nails digging into her palms, though she barely registered the pain.
But after several minutes, all she heard was the steady stream of water nothing unusual.
Twenty minutes later, Yu Zhiwan emerged from the bathroom, freshly showered, only to find Pei Yujiang sitting nearby on a small stool. She called out to her, but Pei Yujiang didn’t respond. Moving closer, she realized Pei Yujiang had earplugs in both ears.
“You’re done?”
Yu Zhiwan couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.
“Why were you sitting here the whole time?”
“Didn’t you ask me to keep you company?” Pei Yujiang countered, a little sheepishly.
She realized now that Yu Zhiwan probably hadn’t meant it that way. She’d gotten carried away, but since nothing had happened, it was fine these things had to be mutual, after all.
And yet, she’d gone and handed her a magic wand, even imagining that Yu Zhiwan was going to use it right there, just a door away, practically in front of her!
The thought made Pei Yujiang want to vanish into the ground, her ears burning furiously.
Luckily, Yu Zhiwan was a good-natured, open-minded Omega who probably wouldn’t tease her about it. Pei Yujiang forced a smile and reached out, gently pinching Yu Zhiwan’s cheek.
Fresh from the shower, the Omega’s skin was soft and smooth beneath her fingers. Pei Yujiang traced the curve of her face down to her neck before stopping abruptly. Then, with a delighted grin, she leaned down, pressing her face against Yu Zhiwan’s before inhaling deeply.
“It’s late, I should head back. See you tomorrow?”
Technically, it was already “tomorrow,” past 2 a.m., but Pei Yujiang was still too wired to sleep. Still, staying any longer felt awkward, and she wanted some time alone.
Yu Zhiwan hummed in agreement, watching as Pei Yujiang turned to leave. But just as she reached the entryway, Pei Yujiang doubled back, crouching in front of Yu Zhiwan to study her face intently, as if she couldn’t get enough, tilting her head to memorize every detail with her gaze.
Finally, she planted a loud kiss on Yu Zhiwan’s left cheek.
“That’s a goodnight kiss.”
Then another on the right.
“And that’s to celebrate your vision coming back.”
**
God, she was so happy.
Pei Yujiang had been suppressing her excitement until she returned home. Barefoot, she stood on the sofa, nearly leaping up to smash her head against the ceiling just to snap herself out of it.
She had experienced many moments of joy winning battles, saving lives, escorting an Omega who’d nearly been assaulted back home, only to receive a heartfelt thank-you letter the next day. But never before had she felt such pure, honey-like happiness flooding her heart.
An Omega she liked had actually become her girlfriend.
Pei Yujiang mulled over the word “girlfriend” in her mind countless times. In the shower, she fumbled the handheld showerhead, dropping it onto her foot, yet she barely registered the pain. Her thoughts were entirely consumed by the image of Yu Zhiwan bathing.
As she lathered herself with body wash, her fingers gliding over her skin, all she could think of was the warmth of another woman’s body. A Bluetooth speaker some freebie she’d gotten from who-knows-where, was set up just outside the bathroom, playing love songs. Every melody seemed to echo her emotions, and she hummed along, giddy with excitement.
That night, she dreamed.
In the dream, she and Yu Zhiwan had reverted to being students. Pei Yujiang had never attended a proper school like modern students did, having been privately tutored instead, but she’d seen enough campus dramas to imagine the setting.
In the dream, they kissed in the classroom, whispering sweet nothings, hiding in a corner while the duty student took out the trash. The curtains were drawn. Yu Zhiwan stood up, still half a head shorter, but she rose onto her tiptoes without needing Pei Yujiang to bend down. Pei Yujiang held her waist to steady her.
The Omega’s waist was just as soft as she remembered, pliant as spring water. But perhaps because they were in a school, the dream carried only a hazy thrill the excitement of breaking rules without any deeper, more explicit thoughts.
When she woke, Pei Yujiang was still smiling.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, she caught her own dopey expression and quickly schooled her features. It was 11 a.m., and after a solid eight hours of sleep, she was fully refreshed.
Sitting in the living room, lost in thought, she waited until Yu Zhiwan woke up and messaged her. Then, Pei Yujiang dialed the police.
That afternoon, the two of them encountered Liu Huanran at the police station as she was being escorted in.
Liu Huanran’s hair was disheveled, her eyes wide and glaring, fixed hatefully on Pei Yujiang and Yu Zhiwan. When that sharp gaze swept over the Omega’s delicate, well-rested face, Yu Zhiwan instinctively shrank back, clutching Pei Yujiang’s sleeve.
Pei Yujiang immediately grabbed Yu Zhiwan’s hand, pulling her wheelchair and all behind her.
“Officer, she still seems highly aggressive and hostile toward my girlfriend.”
Even if it were any other Omega, Pei Yujiang wouldn’t tolerate Liu Huanran’s behavior in front of her let alone when the target was Yu Zhiwan. It was beyond endurance.
The officers despised people like Liu Huanran those who chose the wrong path despite having every opportunity to walk the right one. Seeing the faint mist of tears in Yu Zhiwan’s clear almond-shaped eyes, one officer barked at Liu Huanran:
“Behave yourself!”
Liu Huanran: “Mmmph!” (No way!)
Her tongue was still numb, making speech impossible. But that didn’t stop her from glaring fiercely at Pei Yujiang and Yu Zhiwan, especially after hearing Pei Yujiang call Yu Zhiwan her “girlfriend.” Her eyes practically sparked with fury.
These two women were clearly in cahoots, deliberately setting her up. Yu Zhiwan had even played dumb in front of her.
And yesterday, Yu Zhiwan’s legs and eyes were perfectly fine nothing about her resembled a disabled person. Liu Huanran had been a fool to ever pity her. She hadn’t taken any drugs before coming here, yet tests showed traces in her system. Urine tests didn’t lie, and the police wouldn’t collude with the hospital to frame her. It had to be Yu Zhiwan.
Yu Zhiwan must have injected her with some weird substance!
Liu Huanran thrashed indignantly: “Mmmph mmph!” (Damn lesbians!)
Seeing her still uncooperative, the older officer promptly noted her “poor attitude” before strapping her into the restraint chair for suspects.
Though unable to speak and with shaky hands, Liu Huanran could still write. The police asked for her statement, and she hastily scribbled her account. When the officer reviewed her messy handwriting, he glanced skeptically between Yu Zhiwan and Pei Yujiang, who stood protectively beside her. Still, he nodded professionally at Liu Huanran.
“The police will investigate the scene. If evidence proves you were injected with drugs, the perpetrator will face sentencing. But if you’re falsely accusing that Omega, your charges will escalate. Understood?”
There was no surveillance footage from that day, but evidence confirmed Liu Huanran had conspired to kidnap Yu Zhiwan, a fact she admitted, even eagerly naming her accomplice.
Realizing this wasn’t a simple abduction case, the officers diligent under Xiangcheng’s well-maintained governance took detailed statements before releasing Pei Yujiang and Yu Zhiwan temporarily, keeping Liu Huanran for further observation.
Yu Zhiwan wasn’t worried. She’d left no fingerprints, and no camera could prove a “frail Omega” like her had acted. Besides, she hadn’t drugged Liu Huanran the toxins likely came from the water her accomplice gave her or another slow-release method. Tracing the source would take time, but modern forensics would manage.
At worst, Pei Yujiang would face minimal consequences for dumping Liu Huanran in shallow, dirty water, hardly a threat in summer, likely just causing a cold. The police dismissed it, figuring any partner would react after such provocation.
Outside the station, Yu Zhiwan basked in the sunny sky, humming under her breath. Pei Yujiang helped her into a suncoat, then bent down gently to ask if she wanted food.
They’d eaten nothing since the incident, only drinking water, and their stomachs growled. In high spirits, Yu Zhiwan requested barbecue.
Pei Yujiang smiled warmly:
“Alright, let’s go to the one near Huayuan Gate. Their meat quality is good and the dipping sauces are delicious. I’ll grill for you.”
Yu Zhiwan narrowed her eyes and replied with a soft “Okay.”
The barbecue restaurant wasn’t crowded at this hour. Having visited this place several times before, the owner recognized them and seated them at a well-ventilated spot, even offering two complimentary drinks.
Though Pei Yujiang had shared countless meals with Yu Zhiwan, this time felt different. She was grilling for her girlfriend now, and every flip of the meat filled her heart with warm happiness.
Remembering the relationship expert, Pei Yujiang took out her phone mid-meal to snap a photo capturing Yu Zhiwan’s hand with a tiny heart sticker added and sent it over.
The expert replied instantly: “Out for dinner again?”
Pei Yujiang responded confidently:
“I succeeded in winning her over!”
Ms. Ji (the expert): “?”
Was she seeing things, or had the sun risen from the west?
Unable to contain herself, Ms. Ji messaged Yu Zhiwan directly:
“We agreed you’d stay single a while longer to make her anxious and desperate before saying yes!” Ms. Ji lamented. “Did you succumb to her charms and give in already?”
Yu Zhiwan left her on read.
Instead, she lifted her gaze, fixing Pei Yujiang with her bright, beautiful almond eyes until the latter grew slightly flustered.
“Who are you chatting with?”
“Just a friend!”
Thinking Yu Zhiwan might be jealous, Pei Yujiang waved her phone openly, showing the contact saved under the name of a studio.
Recognizing the familiar name at a glance, Yu Zhiwan suppressed a laugh and asked seriously:
“Does your friend have a partner?”
Pei Yujiang had never heard the expert mention her relationship status, but the question sparked her curiosity. Moreover, it dawned on her that the so-called expert’s advice hadn’t actually been that helpful.
She’d won her girlfriend over entirely through her own efforts!
Typing rapidly, Pei Yujiang wrote:
“Master, do you have a partner?”
Ms. Ji, who was about to request the final payment, hesitated but admitted she didn’t.
Pei Yujiang replied earnestly:
“Now I understand why you’re single, your methods don’t really work. How about I teach you instead?”
“Next time you like someone, let me guide you. We can consider the final payment as my coaching fee. As friends, I’ll even give you a discount. What do you think?”
Ms. Ji: “……?”
Yu Zhiwan tactfully changed the subject, pretending not to notice Pei Yujiang’s antics as she leisurely enjoyed her meal.
The grilled pork belly, golden and crispy, melted in her mouth, especially with the dipping sauce. After several pieces and a sip of mango pomelo sago dessert, sweetness lingered from her tongue to her heart.
“Oh,” she mentioned casually, “I got you a token of affection. You’ll see it later.”
Pei Yujiang cheerfully agreed, then texted the expert, “Time to eat!” only to find her message blocked.
“How petty.”
She cursed inwardly but obediently clicked “confirm receipt” to pay the remaining balance. After all, she and Yu Zhiwan had gotten together even if the master’s method didn’t seem particularly effective, the master deserved credit for the effort.
A few days later, when the package arrived, Pei Yujiang opened it to find a brightly colored marriage certificate staring back at her.
Having unwittingly become part of the couple’s playful antics, Boss Ji decided to swiftly distance herself from the lovebirds.
