- Chapter 9 - So Proactive?
It was hard to say exactly how Bai Rui managed to get Awu out, but it felt surprisingly smooth.
Perhaps it was because the invisibility cloak was exceptionally powerful. With his arm supporting Awu from behind, they moved as if through uninhabited land, easily evading the sentries holding sharp blades and slipping out through a small side door of the castle with a broken lock.
The cold moon in the sky quietly watched over them. Because Bai Rui was supporting him, Awu was also in an invisible state.
Outside the Frost Badger Castle lay a pitch-black forest. The dense canopy blocked the moonlight, so that when the bright rays spilled down, they were squeezed into fragmented spots of light.
The light was dim. The trees surrounding the castle seemed to have been tainted by the malevolent aura of the Witch-Demon race, on every trunk they passed, a pair of eyes opened.
Dark wood, yellow-green eyes, they stared vacantly at Bai Rui.
They only watched, their gaze following Bai Rui as he moved, without showing any intent to attack.
A faint, sweet fragrance drifted through the air. Bai Rui didn’t notice it, while Awu kept his head lowered the entire way, appearing very weak. By the second half of the journey, Bai Rui had to half-embrace him just to keep him moving.
Bai Rui was already exhausted. It was only during this close physical contact that he became acutely aware of the size difference between them.
Standing at 179cm (approx. 5’10”), he felt slender, thin, and delicate in comparison.
Likely due to the exertion, a thin layer of sweat broke out on Bai Rui’s smooth forehead, and that elusive fragrance on his body grew increasingly sweet.
He didn’t know what had been happening lately, but his body was becoming more and more sensitive…
Since arriving in this world as an Omega with a defective gland, and having no prior experience, Bai Rui had no idea just how fragrant, soft, and alluring he was at this moment.
As he supported Awu in their escape, he had to hold Awu’s arm with one hand while the other wrapped around Awu’s lower back, gripping his waist.
Awu’s muscles were firm and well-built. While not exaggeratedly bulky, the muscle lines were distinct, and the contour and feel were excellent.
As Bai Rui moved forward while half-hugging Awu, his heart began to thud uncontrollably, and his ears started to flush.
He wasn’t a “natural born” Omega, so he didn’t understand what this reaction was. He simply felt his heart rate and breathing become unsteady, assuming it was just the physical toll of carrying a tall man while fleeing.
The moon hung high, only dimly illuminating the tops of the forest canopy.
Silhouettes of moonlight, clipped by the branches, spread across the ground and over the two men. Behind them lay a long trail of footprints.
Bai Rui even felt a twinge of regret, he really shouldn’t have brought Awu along.
He had logically calculated the risks, but he had lost to his own soft heart.
Truly, what capital did an Awu with broken hands have to protect him?
But Bai Rui simply couldn’t bring himself to leave the injured Awu behind in that pool of water.
Fine, I’ll take him, Bai Rui thought, gritting his teeth.
As he shifted Awu’s body upward, Awu’s chin unexpectedly brushed against the gland at the back of Bai Rui’s neck.
A jolt of numbness made Bai Rui let out a soft, muffled groan.
“Mm…”
In the quiet of the night, that sound felt incredibly romantic and lingering.
The trees with open eyes all began to blink rapidly in unison. That sweet scent seemed to become even more distinct.
Bai Rui didn’t know what he was feeling, his head felt dizzy, and his breathing grew rapid.
But right now, there was no time for distress. He could only support Awu as they stumbled through the forest.
He had a general direction. Since he had participated in drawing the world map before, he knew that after leaving Frost Badger Castle and crossing the Elia Ancient Miasma Forest, heading southeast would lead to the “no man’s land”, Gambler’s Town.
At their current pace, it would likely take weeks to reach that place.
Awu kept his head low, leaning against Bai Rui as if he were boneless. Bai Rui wondered if he was overthinking it, but it felt like Awu’s thin lips were getting closer and closer to his nape.
Beneath the skin of his nape lay a dormant gland. As an Omega with a defective gland, his experience was nothing like the original story, with his “debuffs” stacked, his physical stamina was truly weak.
To Bai Rui, who had been a “straight man” for nineteen years, he had no realization of how beautiful he looked right now.
Sweat dampened his temples, his fair cheeks glowed with a lustrous sheen, and his lips appeared red and soft due to his rising body temperature. His waist, slightly tilted under the weight of the tall man, looked even more slender and supple…
He looked up at the Elia Ancient Miasma Forest.
The dark forest was filled with a ghostly atmosphere, so gloomy that even moonlight couldn’t penetrate the depths. Black bats hung upside down from the branches, their red eyes following their movement. Occasionally, a crow would caw and flap its wings, soaring into the dark night sky.
Awu’s head remained lowered, but the unsteady breathing of the person beside him was clearly audible.
The young, lean body had a faint, clear fragrance, pleasant and enticing. It felt warm and soft, making Awu unconsciously lean in a few inches closer.
That fair neck… the gland emitting that faint scent sat just beneath the thin skin.
Unable to help himself, Awu instinctively bared his teeth slightly.
The moonlight hit his sharp features, he looked like a handsome member of a blood-drinking clan whose instincts had just been awakened.
They had agreed to part ways once they left the castle, but…
It seemed this person had no intention of abandoning him?
Retracting his fangs, Awu seemed amused. He leaned even more wantonly against Bai Rui. He was completely captivated by the fragrant, soft sensation that teased his nerves.
However, his nearly 190cm (6’3″) frame was a heavy burden for Bai Rui.
With sweat dripping from his temples, Bai Rui finally ran out of strength. He set the man down at the root of a tree, his chest heaving.
Behind them was the towering Frost Badger Castle, known to the human kingdom as the “Ice Prison.” Bai Rui was still a bit dazed that he had actually escaped with an insignificant NPC. He didn’t know if it was the water or the wind, but his scalp felt numb, and waves of heat kept rushing to his head.
Bai Rui had to lean against the tree just to stay upright.
The moon was high. By its light, he could clearly see Awu’s face.
His features were exceptionally handsome, a high bridge of the nose and deep set eyes. His hair was still damp and clung to his neck. He looked uncomfortable, frowning with his head tilted to the side. Under the moonlight, those exquisite eyes made him look very much like a Merman.
Maybe he is one, Bai Rui thought. He watched Awu quietly for a while, then turned to leave.
With his eyes closed, Awu heard the person beside him get up. The footsteps gradually faded away.
As expected.
His thin lips curled slightly. Without opening his eyes, he thought: So it’s my fate to be discarded once we’re out of the castle.
So pretty, yet so heartless.
However, he would not allow anyone in this world to abandon him a second time.
As his slender, pale fingers twitched, many small black snakes began to crawl out from the shadows on the ground.
But at that moment, the footsteps returned. They grew louder, treading on the thick velvet grass as the person doubled back.
In the next second, Awu’s large hand was pulled up. His well-proportioned fingers were gently wiped with a damp cloth. A warm hand held his, moving with gentleness and care.
The soft wiping on his palm felt incredibly soothing.
Meanwhile, Bai Rui noticed that this large, bony hand had many scars on the wrist. Though they had healed, the old scars were slightly raised, standing out against the smooth skin.
Awu still kept his face turned away, his brow slightly furrowed. Behind his back, his hand clenched slightly, and the small black snakes hissed and vanished back into the grass.
The grass behind them rustled. Bai Rui looked back but saw nothing but swaying blades.
He shook his head gently. For no reason, he felt dizzy again.
What’s going on? Bai Rui steadied his head. When he looked at Awu again, the handsome face appeared in double vision.
The Black Dragon he saw before was handsome, but he clearly couldn’t compare to the “sleeping” man before him…
What was his name… Awu?
Driven by his instincts as an artist, he found it difficult to resist admiring such peerless beauty.
Anyway, he’s just an NPC…
Bai Rui swallowed and whispered, “Forgive me.”
Then, Bai Rui’s finger landed on the bridge of Awu’s high nose.
The nose had a slight ridge, making it look even more three dimensional and sharp. His brow bone was deep. Leaning against the tree with his eyes closed and dark hair clinging to his cheek, he had the air of a “sickly beauty.”
For some reason, Bai Rui’s cheeks flushed. His fingertip lightly traced the lines of the man’s nose.
He dragged his finger slowly, tracing the exquisite bridge…
The person pretending to sleep: ?!!
So… proactive?
