Transmigrated As A Beautiful Cannon Fodder Omega To Marry An Evil God Alpha In Place of Another - Chapter 15
“Little beauty, you smell so good.”
The pirate captain, using clumsy words and an equally awkward movement, pinched Bai Rui’s chin, even pulling him closer to himself.
Although Bai Rui was taller than the captain, he was ultimately lean and fair. With this sudden tug, his footing became unstable, and he stumbled, nearly falling into the pirate captain’s chest.
He felt the direct impact of that rock hard skin.
The rumors were true, the skin strength was incredibly high. Bai Rui felt as if his chin were being clamped by a crocodile, the pain forcing one of his eyes shut.
The surrounding pirates burst into laughter, some offering jeering reminders.
“Boss, be careful! Just a moment ago, someone jumped into the sea because of this!”
“Yeah, she’s wicked, she’ll hurt you.”
“Shut up!”
Captain Jayne stared at Bai Rui with greedy eyes. “If she had the ability to crush me, I’d have been gone long ago. My skin armor is the toughest in history, what could she possibly do to me? Look, see? Nothing’s happening.”
True enough, he pinched so hard that tears welled up in the corners of Bai Rui’s eyes.
A wave struck the side of the ship, causing it to lurch and making everyone stumble.
“Boss Jayne, they say those who know witchcraft are very sinister. Should we just kill her and be done with it?”
It was that one eyed pirate again.
Bai Rui took special note of this man. He looked gaunt and withered, his eye constantly darting around as if he were perpetually plotting something.
Captain Jayne raised a hand and delivered a sharp slap, sent the one-eyed man’s face spinning to the side. “Is it your place to speak?”
A flash of poisonous resentment flickered in the one eyed man’s eye, but he quickly turned back with a smile. “Yes, Boss Jayne.”
Jayne smiled with satisfaction and turned his gaze back to the tearful corners of Bai Rui’s eyes, staring as if at a delicate piece of art, he couldn’t look away from. “Little beauty, you should thank me. Do you know that the entire Plain of Wind continent is currently undergoing a witch hunt?”
“Do you know how much that old fossil of the Holy Empire fears death? He ordered a crackdown on every witch within the borders. If you were caught, you’d be sunk into the sea or burned alive on a stake.”
“Dammit,” Jayne’s face contorted into a snarl of fury at the mention of it. “If that old fool hadn’t been stupid enough to challenge the Evil God Witch Emperor, Qi Li, he wouldn’t have provoked the Emperor into sending down natural disasters. The Plain of Wind is suffering a severe drought, the rivers and seas have run dry. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be forced to operate in the Land of the Dark Moon. The Witch tribes here… damn it…”
As he spoke, the wounds on several sailors became even more prominent.
“Everywhere else is off-limits. We can only return to Gambler’s Town, sell these ‘meat tickets,’ and pull off one more big job. Little beauty, when the time comes, whatever you want from those nobles who sneak over for high-stakes gambling, I’ll chop it off and give it to you personally.”
Forced to tilt his chin up at him, Bai Rui displayed a perfectly timed look of helplessness and alarm. “Are you telling the truth? Can I trust you?”
This beauty dealt a heavy blow to Captain Jayne, leaving him dazzled.
“Of course you can trust me. Tonight…”
Before he could finish his sentence, a sailor suddenly rushed over, shouting a string of Annamese words, gibberish that Bai Rui couldn’t understand.
However, he saw the panic in Jayne’s eyes. The hand pinching his chin lost its grip instantly.
“Dammit, these Witch-Demons are hard to deal with.”
He instructed the one eyed pirate who had just been slapped to take Bai Rui and the other to the lower hold, then hurried off to give commands.
Amidst the flapping sound of the sailors pulling the sails, Bai Rui walked down into the hold. His boots clicked against the wooden floorboards as they moved through a long, creaking corridor.
The ventilation on the fishing boat was terrible, the smell of rotting wood and fish guts hit him head-on.
Dressed in his elegant attire, Bai Rui looked entirely out of place in such an environment.
The one eyed man remained silent, but his eye never left Bai Rui.
It was hard to describe the feeling, it felt as though he was constantly observing something, cautiously guarding against a threat.
“How did you kill those rich people?” the one eyed man suddenly asked.
Bai Rui kept his chin raised and remained silent.
A-Wu, hunched over, let out a cold laugh.
The two of them looked like a pair of heartless “mother-daughter” thieves, standing together, they were intimidating enough. Yet, Bai Rui, his face covered by black netting, calmly added: “It wasn’t me.”
He was telling the truth, it really wasn’t him.
But the “old servant woman” with the hunched back laughed in response: “Heh heh.”
The atmosphere froze instantly.
The one eyed man slammed his bare foot down in front of Bai Rui with a thump. “Hey, you better tell me. How did you kill those rich people without a sound?”
A cold wind whistled through the gaps in the wooden planks, making an eerie sound.
Bai Rui put on a terrified and wounded expression. His lace puff sleeves fluttered, revealing slender, white fingers.
He covered his mouth, looking pitiful. “I told you, I didn’t. Why are you so obsessed with this?”
A-Wu, using a strangely pitched voice, added with a smile: “Is there someone you want to kill?”
The ship suddenly pulled a hard turn. The hull let out a ghostly “creak,” making the cold, stinking environment feel even more sinister.
The one eyed man glared hatefully at the two of them and stopped talking. He led them to the bottom hold, and with a heavy thud, the door was slammed shut, throwing them into the pitch-black cabin.
No one was going to provide light for “prisoners.” Darkness enveloped them instantly, as if monstrous claws might reach out from the shadows at any moment to snatch those wrapped in the thick gloom.
In the sealed hold, one could hear their own heartbeat and breathing. Beyond that, there was nothing.
Even the person beside him seemed to have no breath.
“A-Wu,” Bai Rui called out.
A-Wu let out a soft chuckle. He was right beside him. In that moment, Bai Rui smelled that faint, cold fragrance again.
Darkness doesn’t just amplify hearing, it amplifies smell. Smelling that scent, Bai Rui felt a strange burning sensation in his chest for no reason.
A-Wu: “What is it, Your Highness?”
Bai Rui: “Nothing.”
A-Wu’s voice seemed to draw closer, whispering in his ear: “Your Highness, are you afraid of the dark?”
Though the hold was sealed, it wasn’t airtight. The whistling wind snuck through the cracks, sounding like the wailing of ghosts.
The old cabin reeked of decay, as if it had been soaking and rotting in water for years. It made one wonder if this was actually a ghost ship and if the crew were all spirits.
The seductive voice lingered in his ear. Bai Rui’s heartbeat involuntarily quickened.
Bai Rui took a deep breath. “I’m not afraid.”
“Why?”
A-Wu’s magnetic voice drew closer by a few inches, his breath fanning across Bai Rui’s cheek.
Bai Rui felt a shiver run across his skin, the fine hairs on his cheek stood on end.
Bai Rui: “There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
“In this world, people are much scarier than the demons and devils hiding in the dark.”
The person beside him seemed to fall silent for a few seconds. Then, Bai Rui felt something press lightly onto his shoulder. A-Wu’s magnetic voice sounded right at his ear, at close range.
“Your Highness, you really are an interesting person.”
He paused, then added: “You really don’t seem like a pampered noble who doesn’t understand the suffering of the world…”
He didn’t finish the sentence, but the meaning was clear. His second brother was currently back in the castle, surrounded and served by dozens of servants and officials.
Bai Rui’s shoulders stiffened. Immediately after, he felt the heat of breath against the side of his neck. A-Wu must have rested his chin on Bai Rui’s shoulder, he could almost see that bared-teeth grin clearly in the dark.
He chuckled softly: “Your Highness, you are truly kind-hearted. You’re not like those stupid, arrogant nobles.”
“You really are quite special.”
Bai Rui’s eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness. He could begin to see the rough outline of the hold.
There were ropes hanging on the walls and some tattered junk, but because it was so dark, they were just black shadows.
The cold, sharp fragrance from A-Wu flooded his nose. Bai Rui wanted to turn his head, but fearing he would bump into A-Wu in the dark, he kept his neck stiff and stared straight ahead. “You’re quite special too.”
“Hmm?” A-Wu’s voice was low and rich. He seemed to lean in further as he spoke, his hair brushing against Bai Rui’s fair skin. “Special how?”
The magnetic voice carried a hint of a playful lilt, as if he were teasing him.
His firm chest muscles were almost pressed against Bai Rui’s shoulder blade.
Bai Rui cleared his throat: “Are you addicted to being my ‘mother’?”
He paused. “Forgot your status? You’re still sticking to me.”
A-Wu lazily rubbed his chin against Bai Rui’s shoulder. “Ah, am I not allowed to stick to you?”
It was hard to tell if he was acting shamelessly, because he showed no intention of moving.
The height difference was significant. Bai Rui felt completely enveloped by the other man’s shadow.
He was about to turn his head to say something, any rejection would be better than staying this close to someone who made his scent gland throb for no reason.
But just as he was about to move, his other shoulder was suddenly pinned down.
A-Wu’s large hand pressed onto his shoulder, his long, well-proportioned fingers tightening slightly, pinching Bai Rui’s shoulder painfully.
“Shh…”
A-Wu’s voice was practically pressed against Bai Rui’s ear. “Don’t move.”
“He hasn’t left yet.”
Bai Rui’s eyes continued to adjust to the gloom. Following A-Wu’s lead, he looked toward the door.
Sure enough, under the crack of the door where a faint sliver of light filtered in, there was the shadow of a pair of feet.
That one intact eye was filled with greed, looking as if it wanted to pop out of its socket just to squeeze through the crack.
The man seemed to have excellent night vision, his eyeball darted around, staring incessantly toward the wine barrel where Bai Rui and A-Wu were hiding.
“Batella, let’s talk.”
Finally, the sailor at the door spoke in a high-pitched, eerie tone that he couldn’t stop from trembling.
“I know you have a secret, and I have one too. Do you want to know it?”
The voice seemed to shatter the dead silence of the hold, carrying a thrilling echo as it seeped through the crack with a sinister vibe.
Bai Rui instinctively swallowed. He paused for a few seconds, not speaking immediately.
The sailor finally lost his patience. “It’s not convenient to talk through the door. I’m coming in.”
With that, the wooden door let out a long creak and was pushed open.
