- Chapter 8 - Rubbing Her with Horns, Circling Her with a Tail
The Jiao Demons, impervious to pain, repeatedly attacked Cang Wu, continually driving her toward the boundary of the Fog Forest.
“Cang Wu! Don’t go near there!” Lan Shan Jun shouted a warning. She stood in mid-air, her chain blade extending tens of meters. The surrounding wind clung to the chain blade, circling and wrapping around her. Lan Shan Jun moved her finger slightly, and the short blades attached to the chain rapidly lashed out at the Jiao Demons.
The whirlwind swept the controlled Jiao Demons together. The chain blade quickly wrapped around them, circle after circle, until they were tightly bound like mummies, unable to move their heads or feet. The Jiao Demons struggled against the chain blade, emitting a dull yet extremely penetrating demonic roar. A gentle breeze automatically formed a transparent barrier around Lan Shan Jun, blocking all the jarring demonic screams.
Lan Shan Jun sighed in relief. She looked up at Cang Wu near the edge of the Fog Forest, a hint of a smile in her eyes. “Hurry over—”
Unexpectedly, Cang Wu’s face suddenly changed. She waved her hand, flinging the Crane’s Bite toward Lan Shan Jun.
“Senior Sister!”
“Bang—”
The sound of a sharp blade colliding with a hard object rang in her ears. Lan Shan Jun instinctively moved sideways, but the Jiao Demon that suddenly appeared behind her seemed to have anticipated her next move. A single claw swipe connected with her shoulder. Hot blood spewed out. Lan Shan Jun flew outward. That Jiao Demon’s strike was as heavy as a thousand pounds; her shoulder bone was likely shattered.
The intense pain instantly shot to her brain. Lan Shan Jun felt like she was going to die. In a daze, she seemed to crash into something soft and warm, vaguely hearing Xie Qing Shuang’s exclamation—
Cang Wu reached out to catch Lan Shan Jun, but the immense impact forced her to retreat. Dense white fog surged from behind, swallowing the two of them completely in the blink of an eye. Xie Qing Shuang pulled out her longsword, which had pierced the heart of a berserk Jiao Demon. Her gaze was heavy as she looked in the direction where Lan Shan Jun and Cang Wu had disappeared. Blood dripped continuously from the longsword, and the specks of ink-green in the blood vanished completely as the Jiao Demon died.
Xie Qing Shuang pursed her lips, shaking her wrist to fling off the bloodstains. Her gaze then fell upon the Jiao Demon with the broken tail. She walked toward it step by step, about to dispatch it with a single strike when the Valley Master and Dong Jun arrived.
“Qing Shuang.” The Valley Master’s voice was colder and deeper than usual, as if suppressing anger.
Xie Qing Shuang’s eyes moved slightly. She sheathed her sword and turned to salute the two. “Master, Dong Jun.”
Xie You didn’t speak immediately, merely watching Xie Qing Shuang bent at the waist.
“I will go bring them out.” Dong Jun said, placing her hands behind her back and entering the Fog Forest.
Xie You took a deep breath, channeled spiritual energy to wrap around Xie Qing Shuang, and forcibly pressed her to turn and kneel toward the Fog Forest. “When Dong Jun brings them out, that’s when you stand up and come find me.”
Xie Qing Shuang remained silent. Xie You left, taking the tail-less Jiao Demon with her.
Rain began to fall again. Xie Qing Shuang knelt with her back straight. The scabbard in her hand, along with the blade, cracked inch by inch, finally turning into fine powder that was washed away by the rain.
“Damn it!” A low curse spread through the mist. The next moment, a waist-thick long tail cut through the fog, arriving once again at the familiar intersection. Cang Wu held Lan Shan Jun, anxiously looking at the two paths ahead. She had walked both paths, yet she kept circling back to this point.
“It hurts…” Hearing Lan Shan Jun’s unconscious whimper, Cang Wu’s pupils instantly transformed into vertical slits. Her tongue subconsciously flicked out to lick her lips.
At the same moment, Lan Shan Jun suddenly opened her eyes, which seemed to burn with fierce fire. She abruptly gasped, her hands tightly grabbing the front of the person’s robe before her and pulling the person toward herself. Her struggling, bewildered eyes shifted non-stop. As her rationality slowly returned, Lan Shan Jun finally saw the face right in front of her. Beautiful, unfamiliar, yet with a strange sense of familiarity. The unbearable heat spreading through her body at that moment made Lan Shan Jun recall what had happened in the Secret Realm a few days ago, as well as the Snake Beauty she had seen there. Even if she didn’t remember the Snake Beauty’s appearance, the moment she saw the woman before her, Lan Shan Jun was certain—
“It’s you!” Gritting her teeth, Lan Shan Jun spat out the words and swung her chain blade without hesitation, wrapping it around the Snake Beauty’s neck.
“Se-Senior Sister.” Cang Wu was forced to bend at the waist. Lan Shan Jun took the opportunity to break free from her embrace and kicked the woman’s shoulder. She forced herself to stand in the air, simultaneously pulling the chain tighter. Her left shoulder bone was shattered, making movement difficult, but the hot, coursing blood throughout her body made her unable to feel the agonizing pain.
The azure-green long tail was mostly pressed against the muddy ground, like a human kneeling on one knee. Cang Wu looked up, the other end of the chain blade held tightly by the person on the tree branch.
“Senior Sister.” Cang Wu wanted to get closer, but she looked up and saw the suppressed fear and disgust in Lan Shan Jun’s eyes directed at the tail behind her.
“Disgusting.” The subconscious whisper caused Lan Shan Jun to stagger back a step, tightening the chain blade inch by inch. Waves of numbing desire relentlessly stimulated Lan Shan Jun. She struggled fiercely to remain clear-headed, but her consciousness began to blur, and her limbs turned weak.
The killing intent surged again. Lan Shan Jun clearly knew she couldn’t survive this bout of estrus relying only on herself. She had to kill the Snake Demon below before she lost control of her body. Without hesitation, Lan Shan Jun controlled the short blade on the other end of the chain blade to strike directly at the opponent’s head, simultaneously using the surrounding wind to aid the strangulation along the chain in her hand. Even if those attacks were dodged, she still had the Chaos Map.
Lan Shan Jun had prepared thoroughly, but ultimately, she couldn’t resist the negative effects of the estrus. Her limbs gave out completely. She closed her eyes and fell straight down. Lan Shan Jun didn’t see that the chain blade and the wind blades didn’t harm the opponent in the slightest, blocked by the faint azure scales that were subtly showing.
“Senior Sister!” Cang Wu cried out in alarm, quickly moving to catch the falling person. Lan Shan Jun’s skin was scorching hot to the touch. She frowned in pain, and blood slowly began to flow from the corners of her eyes, followed by her nose, ears, and mouth. In a few breaths, Lan Shan Jun was nearly drained of blood. Cang Wu held her hand, continuously feeding her spiritual energy, but Lan Shan Jun’s expression only grew more painful, and her skin developed an abnormal redness, as if being burned from within. Cang Wu dared not transmit any more spiritual energy. She anxiously reached out to cover Lan Shan Jun’s mouth; her palm was instantly stained red. The blood Lan Shan Jun spat out was scalding hot.
“How could this happen? Senior Sister! Lan Shan Jun!”
“If you shout any louder, she will truly die.” Dong Jun’s voice, at that moment, was like the only ray of light in the mist.
Cang Wu looked toward the source of the sound, lifting her chin to look up for the first time, her heart burning with anxiety. “Save her.”
Dong Jun walked calmly to her, first asking a question. “You care about her so much? Why?”
Cang Wu paused, lowered her gaze, and fell into thought. She indeed cared about Lan Shan Jun and desperately wanted to get close to her, because—she sensed her Primal Aura on the other person. This kinship aura compelled Cang Wu, making her want to transform into a Dragon and circle the other person, rubbing her with her horns and circling her with her tail. But beneath the body’s instinctive desires, something hidden deeper was a fierce protective instinct. Cang Wu also wanted to know why she felt such a strong protective instinct toward someone she had never met before.
Dong Jun didn’t wait for Cang Wu to speak but didn’t seem concerned about the answer. Dong Jun took the half-dead Lan Shan Jun from Cang Wu’s arms and suppressed the turmoil within her body with spiritual energy. Cang Wu raised half of her long tail, making her as tall as Dong Jun. Looking at Lan Shan Jun’s gradually calming face, she was puzzled. “Why didn’t my spiritual energy work?”
Dong Jun glanced at her current appearance: the somewhat childish girl had transformed into the beautiful, half-human, half-demon figure before her. “Did you feed her your blood?”
Cang Wu: “Her left shoulder bone was shattered. Dragon blood can reshape sinews and bones.”
Dong Jun looked at her.
Cang Wu paused, then turned her head, looking displeased. “I know, some words shouldn’t be spoken, but there’s no one else here right now.”
“Is the blood the problem?”
“She cannot drink it.” Dong Jun said, raising her hand. Pure spiritual energy enveloped Cang Wu. The long tail vanished, leaving only the small, young girl. Her viewpoint lowered. This time, Cang Wu was unwilling to look up at Dong Jun. She asked with a tight face, “Why?”
“Your blood will kill her.” A faint smile played on Dong Jun’s lips. Knowing the innate arrogance of the Azure Dragon, she added, “If you don’t believe me, feel free to try again next time.”
Cang Wu: “……”
Dong Jun placed Lan Shan Jun on her back and extended a hand toward Cang Wu. Cang Wu frowned. “What are you doing?”
“The Fog Forest has a formation. If you can’t keep up with me, you won’t be able to get out.”
Cang Wu snorted disdainfully. “I can keep up.”
When they emerged from the Fog Forest, Dong Jun carried a big one on her back and led a small one by the hand. Xie Qing Shuang saw them come out, her eyelids fluttering twice. She stood up, bowed to Dong Jun from a distance, and then turned to leave.
“Why was she kneeling?” Cang Wu didn’t understand.
Dong Jun looked at the retreating figure, frowning slightly. This child… Forget it; she has her own destiny. Dong Jun sighed and headed toward Cloud-Treading Residence with them.
Lan Shan Jun was placed by Dong Jun to rest at the bottom of the Three-Heart Pure Lotus pond for healing. Although the Dragon blood had reshaped her bones, the strange estrus symptoms had nearly incinerated her internal organs. Her internal injuries were severe.
In the Lotus Pavilion—
“Do I have to remain a child forever?” Dong Jun poured two cups of lotus heart tea and offered one to Cang Wu.
“Once you have enough strength to support your identity, you can return to your true self.”
Cang Wu glanced at the unbearably bitter tea and silently pushed the cup away with a single finger. “How strong is ‘enough’ in your words?”
Dong Jun took a sip of tea with a calm expression. “Unbeatable.”
Cang Wu narrowed her eyes, an unbefitting look of danger on her young face. “Are you fooling me?” Who in the Four Seas dared to claim they were unbeatable? “Being unbeatable might be a bit difficult, but it’ll be enough as long as I’m stronger than you, right?” Cang Wu raised an eyebrow. “You set the bloodline seal. It will be enough if I break the seal by being stronger than you.”
Dong Jun smiled. “Makes sense.” Dong Jun lowered her eyes, seeing the teacup almost pushed into her own space, and the smile in her eyes deepened. Similar appearance, similar personality, even their taste is not far off.
Lan Shan Jun awoke a month later. She opened her eyes and realized she was lying in the lotus pond wearing only thin underclothes. Fortunately, spiritual energy protected her body, so she didn’t feel cold. Lan Shan Jun used a gust of wind to transport herself from the lotus pond to the Lotus Pavilion. Her soaked underclothes became dry and clean within a few breaths.
“Book Spirit, how did I get back?”
Book Spirit was silent for a few seconds. “My consciousness is with yours; if you faint, I faint too.”
Lan Shan Jun: “…” A useless little waste that can only give me the Golden Finger.
In her memory, she thought she had been struck by a Jiao Demon. Lan Shan Jun gasped, drawing a sharp breath. She moved her left shoulder; it moved freely, with no discomfort at all. Lan Shan Jun thought she had mistaken left and right, so she moved her right shoulder. It was also perfectly fine. Lan Shan Jun couldn’t help but marvel again: this cultivation world was truly formidable. Recovering from broken bones and tendons was a trivial matter. She stretched her arms and legs, preparing to return to her room to change into clothes.
Just as she took her first step, a young man walked down the corridor toward her, clad in the sun-cloud motif robe, wearing a jade crown with flowing hair ribbons, a slight, gentle, and clean smile gracing his lips.
“Senior Sister.”
