Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss - Chapter 90
The scream of the Song family servant startled the entire household. Old Master Song rushed over with others to find none other than Xie Yun lying on the floor, the very guest Third Master Lu had explicitly ordered them to treat with utmost care. She was dressed in the comfortable loungewear the Song family had prepared for her.
A fruit knife was embedded near her chest. Though it had missed her heart, blood gushed relentlessly from the wound. Without immediate intervention, she would surely bleed to death.
Everyone present was horrified.
“What in the world happened?! Doctor, bandage her quickly, we can’t let her die in our home!” Old Master Song roared in fury.
The family doctor proved his competence, deftly extracting the knife before stanching the bleeding and suturing the wound.
The servant who had entered first pointed trembling toward the doorway and stammered, “When I came in, I saw the young mistress leaving the room.”
A collective gasp swept through the crowd, followed by hushed murmurs.
“Could it be that Xie Yun didn’t attempt suicide… but was attacked by her own daughter, Ye Qingyan?” Second Uncle Song was the first to voice the suspicion.
“How could she go this far? Xie Yun is her birth mother! She’s staying with us, it’s not like we made her personally take care of her!”
“Exactly! Arguing with my brother every day is one thing, but now she’s vicious enough to kill her own mother?” Song Yunqing fumed angrily.
“Husband, let’s hurry back and warn Yunjie and Yunduo, they must never provoke her from now on. She resorts to knives at the slightest disagreement. How terrifying!”
“Brother, you can’t share a room with her anymore. What if she gets upset and stabs you in your sleep? That would be a disaster!”
The murmurs grew louder and more far-fetched. Father Song burned with rage, never imagining that the daughter-in-law he had favored since childhood could possess such a despicable character.
He slapped his wife hard across the face. “I told you, one must never lose their conscience. Now we’re facing the consequences, aren’t we?”
“……” Madame Song covered her well-maintained face with her hands, wanting to retort, “Why didn’t you stop it yourself?” But she knew her husband valued his pride above all; opposing him openly was not an option. She could only endure his accusations in silence.
“Elder Brother, you mentioned this before your nephew’s wedding? Does that mean you were aware of the bride swap? Why didn’t you intervene?” Third Madame Song paused at the doorway, turning back with disbelief.
For once, she saw embarrassment on her usually composed brother-in-law’s face. The corners of her lips lifted slightly, not quite a smile, but as if savoring a long-awaited moment.
She had always believed in karma: retribution might be delayed, but it never failed to arrive.
She was eager to see how long this ungrateful Song family could last after offending Third Master Lu.
Her only concern was Qianqian. That timid girl, how was she coping with Third Master Lu every day?
Poor child. Did she even dare to pick up food during meals? Did she dare to close her eyes when she slept…?
“Believe it or not, I had no prior knowledge. I only found out on the wedding day,” Father Song explained.
He spoke the truth. That day, when he saw Ye Zhiqiang escorting Ye Qingyan through the door, he had been genuinely pleased.
Hearing Ye Zhiqiang grit his teeth and declare that the rebellious Ye Qianqian had vanished without a trace, forcing them to substitute Ye Qingyan to save face, Father Song hadn’t sent anyone to search for Ye Qianqian. Instead, a selfish hope had flickered within him that she wouldn’t show up to cause trouble.
A father knows his son best. Old Master Song saw right through his eldest son’s thoughts. What was done was done; there was no use in reproaching him now.
He only shot his eldest son a fierce glare before wearily ordering, “Get her to the hospital immediately. Don’t let her die!”
“Dad, should we suppress the news?” Song’s father humbly sought his elderly father’s advice, having recently realized how arduous managing the household could be.
Especially since his son had switched to a troublesome partner, he felt even more exhausted!
“Grandpa, Dad, there are no outsiders here. There’s no need to deliberately suppress anything. Third Master Lu won’t keep his eyes on Xie Yun forever.”
Before the old man could respond, Song Yuntao interjected. His calm and composed tone eased Song’s father’s anxiety.
As he looked at his father’s usually straight back, now noticeably stooped, a pang of guilt pierced his heart. This was all his fault.
He had failed to raise his son properly. In his youth, he had been fond of chasing after women, causing his father constant worry. Now, his son was following in his footsteps…
He called out to his father’s retreating figure, “Dad, don’t worry. Yuntao and I will handle everything.”
“Grandpa, Dad, Mom, please rest assured and go to sleep. I won’t argue with Ye Qingyan anymore,” Song Yuntao declared solemnly.
He wasn’t afraid of being reprimanded by Third Master Lu; in fact, he even hoped Third Master Lu would step in and deal with Ye Qingyan.
Until Third Master Lu took action, he would keep Ye Qingyan under tight control. “Butler, assign someone to watch Ye Qingyan closely. She’s gone mad!”
Song Yuntao looked at his weary family, realizing that all their troubles were his doing.
It was all because he had misjudged her character. Before the wedding banquet, he truly hadn’t known that Ye Qingyan had slept with so many people!
He hadn’t investigated before, but once he did, the revelations shocked him. She had practically changed boyfriends every week while abroad.
Reading the investigation reports made his heart ache so much he could barely breathe.
If only he had simply switched brides that day without sending Qianqian away, perhaps he wouldn’t have lost her.
Maybe he would still have had a chance to earn Qianqian’s forgiveness!
In an instant, countless memories of his time with Ye Qianqian flooded his mind, each one twisting his heart with regret.
Overwhelmed with despair, he slumped to the floor, his face contorted in agony. “I’m sorry, Qianqian. I’m truly sorry.”
It was all his fault from the very beginning. He had always loved Ye Qianqian, not the deceitful Ye Qingyan.
That night, Song Yuntao didn’t confront Ye Qingyan, but he lay awake, tormented by sleeplessness.
Meanwhile, the feared Third Master Lu had already arrived at his destination, though he didn’t head to the Lu family estate in Country Y.
His private jet landed directly on the helipad of his personal manor. The Lu family estate was accessible to all members of the Lu family, but his private manor was strictly off-limits, reserved only for him and a few trusted subordinates.
He had no need for crowds or even family, especially when he was with Ye Qianqian. With her by his side, he required nothing and no one else.
Lu Jingchen carried Ye Qianqian off the plane and straight into the second-floor bedroom. “Are you tired, my dear?”
“Exhausted! My bones feel like they’re falling apart! I never expected you to be like this, not even letting me rest on the plane… Mmm…”
Before she could finish her complaint, Lu Jingchen silenced her with a kiss.
A long while later, his deep, magnetic voice murmured, “My dear, if you still have the energy to complain, does that mean I wasn’t diligent enough earlier?”
“Don’t talk nonsense! I’m hungry and tired,” Ye Qianqian pleaded, frightened by his words.
“Go soak in the hot spring for a while. I’ll cook something for you,” Lu Jingchen said softly as he gently lowered her into the warm waters.
“Aren’t there any servants here? Should you soak for a while first, then we can cook together?” Ye Qianqian tentatively asked.
“The gardeners and cleaners here are all mercenaries guarding the estate. They only cook for themselves. There are no chefs here. I’ll soak after we eat, I’d feel terrible if my darling went hungry.”
