- Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss
- Chapter 89 - Venting Anger on the Mother
Song Residence.
Song Yuntao had backed down and stopped mentioning divorce, so the old master refrained from kicking him out of the Song Corporation. To avoid clashing with Ye Qingyan, he left for the company early in the morning and worked overtime until ten at night before returning home.
He had thought Ye Qingyan had truly changed and would behave herself, but to his surprise, she was flushed with excitement while talking on the phone, confessing her enduring love for someone else. In the past, he would have stormed in to demand an explanation, but now he had no energy left to care. In fact, he wished she would fall for someone else, it would be better if she stopped pestering him.
“Brother, why aren’t you going in? Don’t you want to see her?” Song Yunchuan asked with concern.
“I still have unfinished work to handle in the study. Would you like to join me for a while?” Song Yuntao’s gaze toward his bedroom was dark and unsettling.
“Sure! I’m free anyway. I’ll have someone brew a pot of tea for you,” Song Yunchuan replied, flattered.
“Yunchuan, do you think I brought this upon myself?” Song Yuntao asked, sinking into the study’s armchair.
“Brother, how can this be your fault? If anyone’s to blame, it’s Ye Qingyan, she’s the one who was unfaithful, the one who didn’t know what was good for her.”
“Didn’t you used to like her too?” Song Yuntao didn’t mention Ye Qingyan by name, but Song Yunchuan knew exactly whom he meant.
“Not at all! Brother, don’t wrong me like that!” Song Yunchuan raised his hands in a gesture of surrender.
“Don’t deny it. Whenever she and Qianqian had disagreements, you always took her side.”
“It wasn’t because I liked her. Whoever my brother likes, I favor,” Song Yunchuan clarified, sounding aggrieved.
“……”
Another person led astray by him, his sister was the same, blindly biased just like him.
Unaware that Song Yuntao had returned and overheard her conversation with Lu Zhenting, Ye Qingyan stared gleefully at the phone and muttered resentfully, “That damned Song Yuntao almost made me doubt my own charm.”
That spoiled heir Lu Zhenting had actually stood up to Third Master Lu for her. With that kind of courage, she should have chosen him back then. But it wasn’t too late. She longed to call her elder brother, Ye Ruixuan, to boast, but she restrained herself, she would wait another month.
Lu Zhenting had promised that in a month, she would be able to strut through Rongcheng unopposed. If he succeeded in seizing control of the Lu Corporation, she truly could. Even if he failed, she would lose nothing, she would still be the eldest young mistress of the Song family and its future matriarch.
For now, she couldn’t boast to others for fear of leaking the news, but she could confide in her mother, who was staying with the Songs. She simply couldn’t resist sharing her joy with someone. So, Ye Qingyan changed her clothes and went downstairs.
“Yanyan, you’ve finally come to see me?” Xie Yun asked happily. Lying in bed all day was unbearably dull. Although the Song family hadn’t mistreated her, they showed her no respect either. The servants tasked with caring for her muttered under their breath, calling her a useless burden who wasted resources by staying alive.
“Why are you so happy? I’m only here to tell you that once I secure Lu Zhenting, I’ll finally be able to hold my head high.”
“Lu Zhenting? What ability does he have to make you hold your head high? Yanyan, don’t entertain such unrealistic thoughts. Live properly with Yuntao. As long as the Song family doesn’t provoke Third Master Lu, they won’t go bankrupt. You’ll live comfortably as the eldest young mistress of the Song family,” Xie Yun pleaded earnestly.
“Song Yuntao won’t reconcile with me, and besides, he’s not as good as I imagined, utterly useless,” Ye Qingyan said disdainfully.
“Mom never misjudges people. I really think Song Yuntao is quite good!” Xie Yun asked in disbelief.
“Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Someone like you would naturally think he’s good,” Ye Qingyan sneered contemptuously.
“Yanyan, Mom only wants what’s best for you. Stop making trouble! Don’t end up like me.”
“Me, making trouble? Xie Yun, in your state, what right do you have to lecture me?” Ye Qingyan demanded angrily.
“You… you… Yanyan, I’m begging you, stop this!” Xie Yun added guiltily, “Yanyan, don’t compete with Ye Qianqian anymore.”
“Do you think I want to compete with her? It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t brought her back to the Ye family back then, who in the Ye family would even remember her?
And you were the one who said she was just an uneducated country girl, with dark skin and an ugly face, destined to be an embarrassment.
But what happened? After just a month lying in a hospital bed, she completely transformed.
If I hadn’t kept suppressing her, making her too afraid to lift her head, she would have stunned the entire school by the age of eighteen!” Ye Qingyan spat venomously.
Seeing that her daughter not only ignored her words but was growing increasingly obsessed with proving herself, Xie Yun wondered if her daughter had forgotten that her fate had been swapped back to Ye Qianqian by Third Master Lu’s people.
After some thought, she decided to remind her, “Yanyan, have you forgotten that Ye Qianqian’s prosperous fate was restored by Third Master Lu…”
“If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would’ve forgotten. No wonder I’ve been so unlucky lately!
It’s all your fault! Why didn’t you just die that day? If you were dead, no one would know about this!”
Enraged to the point of breaking down, Ye Qingyan grabbed a fruit knife from the bedside table and pressed it against Xie Yun’s chest.
Seeing her daughter’s deranged expression, Xie Yun shuddered. “Yanyan, when Bai Lang forced me to tell the truth in the Lu family’s basement, I wished I could die on the spot. It was you who had them splash cold water on me to wake me up. It was you who made me speak. Why are you blaming me now?”
“If I told you to speak, you spoke. Now I’m telling you to die… go die!”
Xie Yun looked up at the daughter she had carried for ten months, feeling as though if the knife slid down and blood splattered onto her face, her daughter would even lick it with a smile.
“Yanyan, I beg you, make it quick and decisive. Don’t hesitate,” Xie Yun said, closing her eyes.
Her limbs were immobile, and living was nothing but a burden. She couldn’t even end her own life. She had long wanted release, but her hands couldn’t even lift a small fruit knife.
“Quick and decisive? Do you think I’m that capable?” Ye Qingyan opened her mouth to curse again.
But meeting her mother’s desperate, death-seeking gaze, her hatred surged. With a hardened heart, she closed her eyes and slashed down fiercely.
“Ah!” Xie Yun’s piercing scream echoed through the Song residence. The moment Ye Qingyan saw the blood gush out, she turned pale and stood up, her voice trembling.
“You… you’re bleeding so much! I’ll call an ambulance.”
“No need, Yanyan. I beg you, give me a quick end,” Xie Yun said, in too much pain to even curse.
Blood stained Ye Qingyan’s white dress. Furious and aggrieved, she asked, “Do you want me to bear the crime of matricide?”
“I didn’t mean it that way. Just leave quickly. Aiyo, it hurts so much!” Xie Yun could only endure the pain and urge her to go.
Ye Qingyan opened the door and immediately encountered a servant who had rushed over upon hearing the commotion. She lowered her head and quickly walked away.
“Ahhh! Murder!”
