- Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss
- Chapter 5 - The Bride’s Distraction During the Vows
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t go, it’s just…” Ye Qianqian couldn’t tell Lu Jingchen that she was snapping at the barrage of comments, not at him!
“Do you really… hate him so much that you can’t even bring yourself to wish him well?” Lu Jingchen asked with a darkened expression.
The deeper the love, the sharper the hatred. The more hatred she showed, the more it revealed her lingering feelings. He couldn’t understand why she still couldn’t let go of that scumbag after everything he’d done to her.
Hate? It wasn’t exactly hate, just unwillingness. But Ye Qianqian didn’t want to say that. She was searching for another excuse when the barrage of comments rolled in like an avalanche:
[The female antagonist is so dumb. How dare she say she hates her ex in front of the big boss? He’ll lock her in a golden cage and torment her day and night.]
[The big boss’s anger is terrifying, but he’s also a simp. If the female antagonist just sweet-talks him, he’ll give her the world.]
[Don’t you dare self-destruct, female antagonist! I’ve got my popcorn ready, waiting for you two to steal the show.]
[Steal the show? More like get herself sent to a mental hospital.]
[Exactly. No one here wants her to show up anyway.]
By then, the Rolls-Royce Phantom had already pulled up at the entrance of the Marriott Hotel. Through the car window, Ye Qianqian could see the scrolling red characters on the marquee above the entrance:
“Welcome to the joyous union of the Song family’s eldest son, Song Yuntao, and the Ye family’s eldest daughter, Ye Qingyan.”
Anyone arriving would immediately know who the wedding was for. If she hadn’t seen those comments, she would’ve stormed in recklessly!
The more she thought about it, the more terrifying it became, but even without thinking, it was terrifying. Ye Qianqian shuddered, a chill creeping up her spine.
She grabbed Lu Jingchen’s hand and said earnestly, “Third Master, how could I possibly hate that dog of a man? If it weren’t for his scheming to hand me over to you, I wouldn’t have had the chance to spend such a wonderful night with someone as exceptional as you.”
For some reason, Lu Jingchen found the ordinary title “Third Master” suddenly sounded incredibly pleasing to his ears.
Qianqian’s voice was even more enchanting, especially when she said “spend a wonderful night.”
If she could call him by his name, it would sound even better.
Over and over again, preferably beneath him…
Lu Jingchen’s gaze grew increasingly heated, lingering on their intertwined hands. After a brief mental blank, he reached out with his other hand and gently stroked Ye Qianqian’s head. His Qianqian was still as innocent and kind-hearted as ever.
He tightened his grip on her hand, his voice low. “If you don’t want to go in, my lady, shall we go home?”
Ye Qianqian felt like prey under the gaze of a starving wolf. If she didn’t act fast, she’d be devoured.
“Third Master, I just want to take a quick look inside. But I’m terrified that the moment I step in, they’ll label me a lunatic and ship me off to Myanmar.”
Seeing her trembling, Lu Jingchen softened his tone, a rare occurrence. “Don’t be afraid. With me here, no one dares lay a finger on you.”
With that, he scooped her up and carried her out of the car, then led her by the hand toward the Marriott Hotel.
Truth be told, he could’ve stopped everything that happened last night but he didn’t. He’d let himself indulge.
It was his desire for her that had made him lose control.
If she ever found out, she certainly wouldn’t have married him so calmly, let alone rely on him like this.
As they reached the entrance, a security guard stopped them. “Sir, may I see your invitation?”
“I’m the Ye family’s second daughter. Am I not allowed in?” Ye Qianqian asked calmly.
The two guards exchanged glances. They’d been explicitly instructed by the eldest sons of the Ye and Song families, under no circumstances was the second daughter to be let in to cause trouble.
The wedding was almost over, so it should be fine, but they didn’t dare to make the decision themselves.
The tall security guard said politely, “Second Young Miss, please wait a moment. I’ll go inside to ask for permission.”
Before the guard could finish speaking, Lu Jingchen’s driver hurried over with the invitation. “Third Master, you left your invitation in the car.”
“Third Master? You’re Third Master Lu? Please, come in! It’s my fault for not recognizing you sooner.” The guard bowed repeatedly upon seeing the gilded invitation, apologizing profusely.
Lu Jingchen remained silent, and Ye Qianqian didn’t say anything either, simply looping her arm through his as they walked into the banquet hall.
Golden drapes shimmered under the lights, and crystal chandeliers hung overhead like countless dazzling stars.
The luxurious carpet was strewn with fresh rose petals, transforming the entire hall into a dreamlike scene.
The guests were all dressed in their finest attire, this high-society wedding was not just a celebration of the newlyweds but also an important social occasion.
On the LCD screens lining the walls, images of Song Yuntao and Ye Qingyan’s sweet memories played in a loop.
Even though Ye Qianqian had personally overseen the wedding arrangements, there was not a single trace of her presence in the hall now.
The moment Ye Qianqian and Lu Jingchen stepped inside, they heard Song Yuntao’s loud, resolute voice: “I do.”
She lifted her gaze toward the sound and saw the bride, Ye Qingyan, wearing a custom-made pure white wedding dress.
The skirt flared like blooming white water lilies, her slightly curled hair cascading over her shoulders, and atop her head sat a diamond-studded jeweled tiara.
The tall, handsome groom stood beside her in a white suit, the two of them looking like an enviable golden couple.
The solemn voice of the officiant rang out: “Bride Ye Qingyan, do you take Song Yuntao to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”
“…” The bride didn’t immediately say, “I do.” Instead, she stared blankly at the newcomers.
Everyone followed her gaze and saw Ye Qianqian walking in slowly, arm in arm with Lu Jingchen.
Lu Jingchen rarely attended social events, so his presence alone was enough to draw the attention of the entire room.
However, while many guests had heard of him, few had actually seen him in person. Those among the Song family’s invitees who recognized Third Master Lu quickly approached with champagne in hand, eager to strike up a conversation.
Lu Jingchen handled them with ease, his words were measured, his demeanor graceful. When the crowd around him grew too dense, he protectively wrapped an arm around Ye Qianqian’s waist, shielding her from any accidental jostling.
There was no denying it, this version of Lu Jingchen was undeniably captivating.
The groom hadn’t noticed Ye Qianqian, much less Lu Jingchen. Anxious, he whispered to the bride, “Yanyan, do you regret marrying me?”
“…Ah!”
The bride’s odd reaction made the officiant frown slightly before he repeated loudly, “Bride Ye Qingyan, do you take Song Yuntao to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”
“I… do,” Ye Qingyan said with a furrowed brow. Right now, her mind was entirely preoccupied with one thought: Why is Third Master Lu here?
Did he come specifically to bless her?
Or… to stop her wedding?
Three years ago, she hadn’t gone abroad just because Song Yuntao had been in a car accident, she had also heard that Third Master Lu was heading to France and had chased after him.
But once she arrived, she hadn’t even caught a glimpse of him.
Just as she was about to return home, she received a call from her eldest brother informing her that Song Yuntao had been diagnosed by a renowned doctor as being paralyzed. So, she stayed in France to pursue her postgraduate studies.
France without Third Master Lu was not romantic at all. The only reason she continued to stay there was to avoid coming back to care for Song Yuntao, who loved her deeply.
The emcee’s voice rang out again: “Next, let us welcome the bride and groom to exchange rings.”
