- Chapter 32 - The Unfilial Son and Grandson
“Unfilial son! Unfilial grandson! Kneel down, all of you! Just look at what you’ve done!” Old Master Song roared, brandishing his phone in the air.
“Dad, please don’t get too worked up. What did you see? Take your time and tell us,” Mr. Song pleaded as he knelt before the old man with his wife and children.
Second Uncle Song and Third Uncle Song also knelt with their families beside Mr. Song, their faces filled with concern for the old man, though they remained silent, they hadn’t done anything wrong recently.
“Afraid I’ll get too angry? Then why did you do such despicable things? Qianqian took care of Yuntao for three years, how could you treat her like that?”
Old Master Song’s voice was rough and domineering. His left hand held the phone high, while his right gripped a tiger-headed cane carved from prickly ash wood.
He struck it hard against the luxurious carpet, but when no sound came, he felt the intimidation was lacking, so he slammed it onto the mahogany coffee table instead.
“Grandpa, it’s not just Ye Qianqian who’s taken care of me. Am I supposed to marry every single one of them?” Yuntao retorted defiantly.
Normally, he wouldn’t dare talk back to the old man, but today, he was seething with anger and hadn’t had a chance to vent.
“You ungrateful brat! You treat Qianqian like some hired help? Do you even realize that if it weren’t for her, the grass on your grave would already be five feet tall!”
“Dad, that’s an exaggeration. Without her, Yuntao would’ve just ended up with a limp at worst. How could he have ended up dead?” Mrs. Song protested.
“When this unfilial grandson first learned he was paralyzed, he was suicidal, banging his head against walls, slashing his wrists. If Qianqian hadn’t counseled him, would he have recovered? If she hadn’t taken such meticulous care of him and found him the best doctors, would he be standing now? Do none of you have any sense of gratitude?”
Old Master Song’s voice thundered with fury as he berated them, punctuating each sentence with another strike of his cane against the table.
The roar of his anger, combined with the rhythmic tapping of the prickly ash wood against mahogany, created an oddly harmonious sound.
Second Uncle Song knelt silently, praying that the old man wouldn’t drop dead from rage, he was used to idling around and planned to mooch off the family fortune until his dying day.
“Dad, are you angry because of today’s news?” Third Aunt Song’s trembling voice carried a hidden excitement that no one else could detect.
Just moments ago, she had listened to her son’s vivid retelling of what happened at the nephew’s wedding banquet, leaving her seething with indignation.
Ye Qianqian was her savior, not only curing her of a long-standing, embarrassing ailment but also helping her regain her health.
She had been about to vent to her best friend when the old man summoned her here for a scolding. This was far more thrilling than gossiping with a friend!
She thought her nephew’s last-minute bride swap was the height of shamelessness, but it turned out there was more!
At the banquet, he had actually lusted after Qianqian, deliberately provoked her, and even slandered her, behavior so disgraceful she couldn’t bear to hear it.
She wanted to shout to the whole city of Rongcheng that the Song family’s supposedly noble eldest grandson was nothing but a heartless ingrate.
“The news today was taken down within minutes. How did Third Aunt know about it?” Yunhuan asked in surprise.
She was the only child of the second branch, the apple of her father’s eye, though her mother often complained about her being a “leaky little coat”, she loved traveling and eating good food, just like her father, but never took her mother along, finding her too nagging.
“Today’s news? What fresh nonsense has this unfilial grandson stirred up now? Eldest, tell me everything!” Old Master Song trembled with rage.
“Grandpa, you really don’t want to know about how Cousin’s wife and her elder brother were messing arou-mmph!” Song Yunjie’s words were abruptly cut off as his second uncle clamped a hand over his mouth.
Second Uncle Song kept his hand firmly over his fifth nephew’s mouth as he stood up. “Dad, could you tell us why you’re so angry?”
The old master fumed, “Half an hour ago, your Grandpa Wen called me and told me to check the news. The moment I turned on my phone, I saw headlines about that unfilial grandson’s grand wedding with the eldest daughter of the Ye family. Such a major event, and I only find out about it three days later through someone else! Tell me, how could I not be furious?!”
“Dad, we kept it from you because we were afraid you’d get angry and try to stop it. Had we known this would happen, I would have told you,” Mrs. Song said regretfully.
“Enough digressing! Quickly tell me what happened with the Ye family today!” The old man banged his fist on the rosewood coffee table.
“Dad, don’t worry yourself over it. Nothing happened today,” Mr. Song replied wearily.
Third Uncle Song also stood to massage the old man’s shoulders. “Dad, no matter how big the issue, it can’t compare to how outrageous Yuntao switching brides was. Please calm down.”
“Sigh! I’m old now, can’t control you all anymore. What you might not know is that Qianqian not only cured Yuntao’s leg, she’s also my lifesaver. Her master is that so-called ‘Wicked Kou’ miracle doctor, which shows how extraordinary his medical skills are. And yet, this is how you treat her!”
“Grandpa, are you saying Ye Qianqian is the disciple of the ‘Wicked Kou’ miracle doctor? That’s incredible! Even when I was in M Country, I’d heard of his reputation. For some reason, the ‘Wicked Kou’ miracle doctor never leaves Rongcheng, no amount of money can tempt him to,” Song Yunjie said eagerly as he massaged the old man’s legs.
“What? Ye Qianqian is Wicked Kou’s disciple?” Ye Qingyan asked in disbelief. During her time in F Country, she’d heard of this figure in Huaguo, a recent sensation who had cured several rare and difficult illnesses.
“Mom, why does Sister-in-law have so many bruises?” Song Yunduo whispered to Third Aunt Song, though nearly everyone in the hall heard.
In an instant, all eyes in the Song family turned toward Ye Qingyan, whose face was now twisted in shock. Her skin was as smooth as a peeled egg, tender enough to pinch water from, yet her collarbone and arms bore unmistakable marks.
Those who knew what had happened at the homecoming banquet silently cursed Ye Ruixuan, that bastard truly didn’t know how to cherish such beauty. Those unaware assumed it was Song Yuntao’s handiwork and shot him disdainful looks.
The old master threw a sharp glare at Song Yuntao. “Unfilial wretch, get out of here. Don’t embarrass yourself further.”
“Grandson has troubled you, Grandfather,” Song Yuntao muttered before roughly dragging Ye Qingyan back to their bridal chamber.
The old man took a sip of tea and asked his leg-massaging grandson, “Yunjie, did you see Qianqian today?”
“I did. She’s stunningly beautiful, I actually feel sorry for Eldest Cousin,” Yunjie answered honestly.
Hearing this, the old man’s tone softened considerably as he casually inquired, “Yunjie, do you have a girlfriend?”
Before Yunjie could respond, his mother chimed in cheerfully, “Dad, Yunjie prioritizes his studies and career. He doesn’t have a girlfriend right now.”
…
Meanwhile, in the basement of a villa at Lanjing Garden…
Lu Jingchen held Ye Qianqian close on an expensive sofa, watching as Bai Lang and Ding Fan interrogated a disheveled Xie Yun.
[The female antagonist remained unaware that Old Master Song was already playing matchmaker for her.]
Ye Qianqian stood up in shock: “She’s already married, why is she still playing matchmaker?”
“Darling, did the smell of blood scare you?” Lu Jingchen immediately stood up as well.
“No, I’m just furious with Xie Yun. Is there any way to make her confess what kind of curse she placed on me?”
“A curse? Madam, could she have siphoned your luck?” Bai Lang asked in surprise.
