To the Man Destined to Kill Me - Chapter 54
Noah couldn’t hold back anymore. His terrible feelings were one thing, but Scott had touched something he must never touch.
Noah never intended to grow by feeding off Scarlet. Even so, because he loved Scarlet, he felt guilty about his existence and suffered from shame and a pain he couldn’t explain with simple words. That’s why the word “parasite” shook Noah to his soul and made him furious.
“Grisham! Mr. White!”
Wilhelm tried to stop the two, who had fallen to the floor and started grappling. But Noah used magic to grab Wilhelm’s legs, making him unable to move.
“Argh!”
Wilhelm lost his balance and fell backward. Scott grabbed Noah by the collar. Sitting on top of Noah, Scott swung his fist.
“You bastard! The moment I saw you, I knew I had to kill you!”
Noah’s nose, already hurt from Scarlet’s earlier punch, started bleeding again. But Noah didn’t care. He twisted his body with great force, throwing Scott off him. Pinning Scott down, Noah punched him.
“If you can kill me, then try! If you weren’t Scarlet’s brother, I wouldn’t have held back either!”
Their fight, full of punches and blood, was pure savagery.
“My legs… Grisham, stop it! Mr. White, please stop!”
Wilhelm managed to stand up, dragging his legs where invisible magic still clung. He had no choice but to drag his feet across the floor.
The two rolled across the living room, over and over.
Their fists were torn, and blood ran from their eyes and lips. Blood dripped from their noses, and they growled like beasts between their clenched teeth. They didn’t even try to hide their hatred for each other.
“I’ll kill you!”
Scott strangled Noah’s neck. The air burned with the killing intent coming from him. His eyes, the same color as Scarlet’s, were wild with madness. His hatred was colder than a winter lake and hotter than a blazing fire.
“Ugh!”
Noah struggled and pressed against Scott’s eyes, but Scott didn’t move. He was ready to lose his eyes if it meant killing Noah.
Gasping for breath, Noah swung his magic. Scott was lifted into the air and thrown toward the fireplace. At that moment, the magic binding Wilhelm was broken.
“Theo Grisham!”
Wilhelm rushed to block Noah, who was charging at Scott, and grabbed him.
“Let go! I’ll kill him!”
“Get a hold of yourself, you idiot!”
Scott staggered to his feet from where he crashed into the fireplace, spitting blood onto the carpet.
“Ptui.”
“Mr. White, you too! Please, stop! Think of Scarlet!”
“Move, Wilhelm Hoffman.”
Scott’s eyes were filled with madness. Noah was no different. Scott charged at Noah again. Wilhelm tried his best to hold Noah back but was thrown aside with a wave of Noah’s hand.
Scott and Noah grabbed each other’s collars with one hand and swung punches with the other. At that moment, Scott’s hand froze in midair.
“You…”
Noah’s eyes glowed purple. Scott stopped moving completely, even forgetting to breathe, staring at Noah’s eyes in shock. Because of that, Noah’s fist, just about to hit Scott, stopped.
“Ha.”
Scott let out a hollow laugh.
“Hahaha. Haha. Hahahahaha…”
Scott let go of Noah’s collar and covered his face in disbelief. He laughed, choking and gasping, like a madman.
“Yeah. That’s it. That’s it! Puhahaha! Hahaha!”
“Scott… White?”
Staggering like a drunk man, Scott pressed hard against Noah’s eyes. Only then did Noah realize his illusion magic had broken.
“Ah…”
Noah had been tracking the illusion magic on his mother and accidentally broke the spell on his own eyes. After that, he used his own illusion magic to hide his true eye color. But during the fight with Scott, he used magic recklessly, and the spell shattered.
“Those eyes, your precious eyes… you better keep them hidden.”
Scott laughed like crazy. He really seemed mad. It was like he was enjoying the situation and suffering from it at the same time. His laughter sounded more like a desperate scream. Even a rat in a sewer would have looked happier than him.
“Ahahaha. Haha.”
Half out of his mind, Scott stumbled out of Scarlet’s villa. He left the confused Noah behind and got into his carriage. As soon as he sat down, his laughter slowly died away.
Scott slumped like a balloon losing air and gave a weak order.
“To John’s office. As fast as possible.”
The carriage rolled smoothly down the road. Scott stared blankly out the window, unable to believe what he had seen.
When they reached 54 Current Street, where John’s office was, he let out a shallow breath.
“John White… that bastard.”
Scott got off the carriage, looking as confident and full of energy as ever. Ignoring Maggie, the secretary who tried to stop him because there was a meeting, he barged inside.
“John. I need to see you. It’s urgent.”
“What are you doing?”
“Today, it’s between brothers. Everyone, please leave.”
“Scott White. Mind your manners.”
“You’re not one to talk about manners. Should I talk about the great will you’re hiding right here?”
“…”
With a glance from John, the visitors left the room. Scott dropped heavily into a chair across from John.
“What have you been doing outside? Your face is a mess.”
“This? I had a little fight with that bastard.”
Scott pulled out a handkerchief and wiped his face, peeling off the dried blood. He spoke bluntly.
“Did Father love Julia Ashford?”
“Father’s been dead for a long time. How would I know his personal feelings?”
“He must’ve loved her. Why else would he leave his kids behind to shack up with some young girl?”
“Watch your language.”
“If it wasn’t love, did she hide some treasure he couldn’t resist, even with the White name?”
John’s brow twitched. Scott’s lips twisted.
“Like the kid in her belly, for example.”
“Stop.”
“That bastard. He’s royalty from Natalia.”
“What are you talking about?”
“When Father met her, she was already five months pregnant. It took a lot of work to find that out. Everything was perfectly, suffocating covered up. Even her real face was hidden. Amazing.”
“What do you mean by hidden face?”
“Noah Ashford. His real eye color is purple. Purple eyes are a symbol of Natalia’s royal family.”
“Purple eyes are rare, but they aren’t only Natalia’s. Don’t jump to conclusions.”
“Julia Ashford was from Natalia. Weird Natalia people hung around her. And Victor Lebedev contacted Noah Ashford.”
Thanks to Cravitz, Scott already knew that Victor Lebedev had sneaked into Wifland. He didn’t know everything about Julia, but he even knew about her true origin.
John hid his tiredness under his eyelids. The difference between Aaron and Scott was in their persistence.
“I always hoped Aaron would inherit Cravitz…”
“Cut the crap and answer me. Was that bastard the son of Joseph III?”
“…Pretend you don’t know. It was our parents’ wish.”
“Ha! What a great will! Why would Wifland hide a fallen royal from Natalia? For what? For whom?”
“Lower your voice. Scott White. It was Mother’s will.”
“Say it!”
“Enough!”
“Enough, my ass! You bastard! How could you hide it! You’re an accomplice!”
Scott looked ready to jump at John, grab his collar, and punch him. His knuckles were cracked and bloody from fighting Noah. John barely held back his fraying nerves and answered.
“What would have changed if you knew?”
“A lot would have changed.”
“Like what? Blaming our parents? If it’s just resentment, it was better for me to bear it alone. And it was Mother’s wish to keep it secret.”
“Bear it? You didn’t bear it. You just hogged the truth and hid it! You should have told us! Asked for our understanding! I, I was—”
“Do you regret it?”
“What?”
“I asked if you regret what you did to that mother and son.”
“Hah. Of course not. Nothing would have changed.”
“Exactly. Even if you knew, you would have still pushed them into hell. Whether you knew or not, you would have sinned. At least by not knowing, you could have had some excuse.”
“Are you crazy? Watch your mouth.”
Scott slammed the table. The crash was so loud it seemed the table might break, but John didn’t even blink. He was just tired of it all.
He was sick of living under their parents’ shadows. The damn will had chained him all his life.
The guilt of lying to his brothers, the loneliness of carrying all the truth alone, the pity he felt toward Scarlet… John wanted to run from it all.
“You mocked us!”
“I acted according to the will, and made decisions when needed.”
“John White!”
“Enough. That’s the end.”
John raised his hand, signaling the meeting was over. Scott, furious, spat at him.
Ptui.
Blood-mixed spit hit John right on the face. John took a deep breath, trying to hold back his rage. He wiped the spit off angrily and threw the handkerchief at Scott.
“Get out.”
“I’m not done talking.”
“I said get out.”
“I said it’s not over!”
John stood up, grabbed Scott by the collar, and dragged him out. His strong grip pulled Scott along. Scott didn’t resist and just laughed like a madman.
John threw Scott out of the office.
“Go ahead. Scream about the truth all you want. No one will believe you. We’ve already made the lies look like the truth!”
John slammed the door.
The lies had been woven so tightly that now lies had become the truth, and truth had become lies.
Even so, his heart still ached because of that cursed will. John couldn’t understand why.
