Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 39
After she finished speaking, the room fell completely silent for more than five minutes.
Wen Huaxi stood beside her sister, not daring to say a word or make any movement.
This kind of situation was beyond her ability to predict how her sister would respond.
After taking a deep sip of tea, Wen Suixue finally calmed herself down.
“Huaxi, you’re only twenty years old. What about your studies? What about your career? Are you really going to keep this child? I will ask someone for advice on how to terminate the pregnancy in a way that causes the least harm to your body.” As she spoke, Wen Suixue took out her phone, ready to contact a friend.
Wen Huaxi placed her hand over her sister’s, stopping her. “I’ve already taken a leave of absence from school. As for my career, I have a project lined up with Director Qin. Everything is under control. Sis, this child died with me once and was reborn with me. I really can’t bear to give her up.”
While speaking, Wen Huaxi looked down at her belly. Once again, she felt the presence of a small life growing inside her.
It was a baby she shared a special bond with.
Wen Huaxi had always liked children. Back then, choosing to keep the child had been her own decision.
This life had its inconveniences, but up to this point, she felt she had prepared herself.
Seeing her sister’s determined expression, Wen Suixue couldn’t bring herself to keep persuading her.
After all, what Wen Huaxi had said today was so unbelievable that it was hard for most people to accept.
“Are you really sure about this? Raising a child isn’t just about being pregnant for ten months. You’ll have to breastfeed, raise her, teach her right from wrong, and help her grow into someone capable and independent.” Wen Suixue had experience taking care of children, although the one she raised had been her younger half-sister.
“Well, I don’t have to do it all on my own. Little Wen has her alpha mommy.” Wen Huaxi spoke with certainty. She was confident that once Yan Qinglan received the genetic test results, she would take responsibility. That belief gave her the courage to keep the baby.
“You really think Yan Qinglan is that kind? Does she even know about the pregnancy?” Wen Suixue asked, regaining her composure.
Since her sister had made up her mind, the only thing she could do now was support her and the child.
While asking questions, she opened her phone and started searching for pregnancy tips and baby supplies.
“I didn’t tell her, but she figured it out herself.” Wen Huaxi still felt upset thinking about it.
Even now, Yan Qinglan refused to explain how she found out about the pregnancy.
“At first, she didn’t believe the baby was hers. We never even had physical contact, not to mention any marking. I didn’t tell her about the rebirth. I was afraid she wouldn’t believe me and felt there was no point. If, after the baby is born, she still acts cold and distant and doesn’t care about us, I’ll definitely divorce her and make sure she pays child support.”
“She didn’t do anything to you, right?” Wen Suixue asked, full of concern. According to the rumors, Yan Qinglan was not someone easy to deal with.
“No, she really didn’t. Eventually, she believed the baby was hers. Then she said she wanted to take care of me.” As Wen Huaxi spoke, her mood dropped noticeably.
She came to talk to her sister today because she needed to share her feelings, even though her sister was not the most emotionally sensitive person.
But there was no one else she trusted enough to confide in.
No one else knew about her complicated marriage with Yan Qinglan, nor did they know that she had returned to life with her unborn child.
“Huaxi, be honest with me. Is the baby really Yan Qinglan’s? You didn’t have an accident with someone else and make up this story to cover it up, did you?” Wen Suixue furrowed her brows, still feeling that the whole situation was unbelievable.
“Of course not. I barely know any alphas. We only had a fight a few months ago, and I’ve been away since then. How could I possibly have had a one-night stand?” Wen Huaxi pouted in frustration. Feeling wronged, she tapped her cup against the table.
“Alright, I believe you.” Despite how strange everything sounded, Wen Huaxi had never been someone who lied.
Just as she said, if even Wen Suixue didn’t believe her, then probably no one else in the world would.
Wen Suixue let out a deep sigh and rubbed her face. She couldn’t believe what was going on. “So Yan Qinglan didn’t even question your story?”
“She was suspicious for a few days. Then, out of nowhere, she said she believed the child was hers.”
Wen Huaxi smiled faintly, a trace of sarcasm in her expression. “Strange, right? There was no actual proof. I think she just doesn’t care if the child is really hers or not.”
Even if she didn’t care, she could still treat her well. That kindness, even if it was fake, could still look convincing.
And Yan Qinglan was exactly the type to pretend and put on a good show.
“Isn’t that better for you? What if she had insisted the baby wasn’t hers, forced you to get rid of it, or locked you away? That would be a disaster.” Suddenly, Wen Suixue paused as if something finally made sense to her.
Wen Huaxi nodded. “Yes, it’s a good thing. But, Sis, I want her to care.”
Just as she finished speaking, the doorbell rang.
Their dinner wasn’t due to arrive for another thirty minutes. Wen Suixue looked at Wen Huaxi. She hadn’t ordered anything either. Assuming that Du Jiayan may have forgotten something, she stood up to open the door.
Because her sister was home, Wen Huaxi let her guard down and didn’t check the security camera at the door.
As soon as she opened it, Yan Qinglan’s face appeared before her. Wen Huaxi’s eyes widened in surprise, and she instinctively took two steps back.
“What are you doing at my sister’s place? I told you not to come!” Wen Huaxi tried to shut the door, but Yan Qinglan held it open with her hand.
Anxiously, she whispered, trying to drive her away, but it was too late. Wen Suixue had already heard the noise and walked over.
Seeing Yan Qinglan, Wen Suixue felt completely speechless for a moment.
She had planned to comfort her sister and tell her there would be someone better in the future.
If Yan Qinglan didn’t love her, that was fine. She even considered finding someone new to help Huaxi move on.
But now, Yan Qinglan was “taking care” of her sister to the point of showing up at her doorstep.
Just like last time.
Even though Wen Huaxi kept insisting it was a misunderstanding and had said every bad thing she could think of to convince her that there was nothing between them, it was now obvious that things were not as simple as they seemed.
Wen Suixue gave Yan Qinglan a cold look.
Even though her sister had explained everything about the pregnancy, it was still difficult to accept the truth.
To the one who had marked and impregnated Wen Huaxi, Wen Suixue had no intention of being polite.
“President Yan, what are you doing here?” She stepped in front of her sister and gestured for Huaxi to go back to her room and listen from there.
This was a rare chance. How could she pass up the opportunity to give Yan Qinglan a piece of her mind?
And at the same time, test her intentions toward her sister.
“Huaxi missed one of her nutrient meals,” Yan Qinglan said calmly, as if she was only here to deliver food.
“We just finished eating. There’s no need for you to worry about that,” Wen Suixue replied, her tone flat and her words sharp.
Yan Qinglan kept a calm expression. She wasn’t upset by the attitude.
Before coming here, she had already been warned by Wen Huaxi that Wen Suixue might want to tear her apart.
“I want to stay tonight and take care of Xiaoxi. You already know her condition. During a time like this, she needs someone to look after her.”
Yan Qinglan didn’t hesitate to say what she was thinking.
She leaned past Wen Suixue and noticed that the dining table showed no signs of a meal being eaten.
“President Yan, are you saying I can’t take good care of my own sister? Or do you think you care about her more than I do? Understand her better than I ever could?” Wen Suixue let out a cold laugh.
“You and she have no emotional foundation. In what capacity are you even making this request?”
“I am her wife,” Yan Qinglan replied awkwardly. The question had clearly cornered her. She hesitated for a moment before forcing out the answer.
“That marriage was only arranged to deal with family matters. Do you even like my sister?”
There was a faint smile in Yan Qinglan’s eyes.
Why did everyone keep reminding her of that? Why did everyone keep asking whether she liked her?
She didn’t want to think too deeply about it. She didn’t want to admit that there might be even the slightest possibility she could fall for someone.
This had nothing to do with Wen Huaxi.
She simply didn’t want to be in a relationship.
That thought alone was enough to irritate her.
Yan Qinglan forced down the frustration bubbling up inside. She slowed her speech deliberately, trying not to show any cracks in her composure.
“I just want to do my duty. But you are right.”
Her hands slightly trembling, Yan Qinglan placed the nutritional meal inside Wen Suixue’s room and turned to leave.
Wen Suixue had gotten the answer she needed and dismissed her without sparing a glance at the food.
When she turned around, she saw her younger sister looking lost, her eyes fixed in the direction of the door.
Wen Huaxi must have heard their entire conversation.
“It’s alright, Xi-mei. Someone better will come along,” Wen Suixue said gently. Just a moment ago, she had asked Yan Qinglan whether she liked Wen Huaxi, and Yan’s response had been carefully evasive. Most likely, she did not like her.
But Wen Suixue didn’t truly know Yan Qinglan.
Wen Huaxi was beginning to suspect something. She didn’t dare think too much about it, but she still wanted Yan Qinglan to stay the night.
“Jie, she said she wants to take care of me.”
Wen Suixue suddenly realized why her sister had looked at her with such quiet disappointment.
She had meant well, but ended up ruining things instead.
“Then go after her. She probably hasn’t gone far,” Wen Suixue said, considering her sister’s current emotional state. She didn’t want to upset her or pressure her to move on.
Right now, following her heart was what mattered most. Her happiness came first.
Wen Huaxi walked to the door but hesitated again.
“If you wait any longer, it might be too late,” Wen Suixue said as she gently patted her sister’s head.
“Even if she says she doesn’t like you, she doesn’t like anyone else either. That means you still have a chance.”
Wen Huaxi glanced at her sister and sighed helplessly as she opened the door.
“Jie, I don’t want to like her.”
Liking Yan Qinglan was too exhausting.
She had returned to the age of twenty, the most beautiful time of her life. She could like anyone else, and they would all be better choices than Yan Qinglan.
A hundred times better.
So tonight, she just wanted Yan Qinglan to dry her hair and give her a massage. It wasn’t because she missed her or anything like that.
To her surprise, Yan Qinglan was still standing outside the door.
When their eyes met, Yan Qinglan froze. Only then did her legs start to move, as if she was finally about to leave.
But strangely, her feet carried her right back toward Wen Huaxi.
Yan Qinglan stopped herself abruptly and pinched her thigh hard.
Her legs were becoming harder to control lately.
“Yan Qinglan,” Wen Huaxi took a deep breath and then wrapped her arms around Yan Qinglan’s arm. “Sister Qing, um, my sister agreed to let you stay.”
“I usually can’t sleep well in unfamiliar places.” Yan Qinglan looked confused. “Didn’t you just turn me away? Why are you coming after me now?”
