Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 36
Her assistant had investigated Yu Xiyun thoroughly, almost like a census check, leaving out no details.
However, when it came to how she met Wen Huaxi, there was only a single sentence in the report:
“On July 12th, Miss Yu met Miss Wen at Sunset Bar, accompanied by Miss Wen’s university friend, Qiao Shinian. The two only drank and talked, with no further interaction.”
That was it? Just one encounter over drinks?
But Yan Qinglan had seen the clear hostility in Yu Xiyun’s eyes.
Even if Xiaoxi appeared indifferent, what if this woman had feelings for her?
They were working on the same production, and what’s more, they had scenes together. Scenes that were…
Yan Qinglan looked down at the script, the parts her assistant had marked, and took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
Wen Huaxi had not told her that she and Yu Xiyun were playing lovers in the film.
Yan Qinglan could feel her mood sinking. She gave in and pinched her own palm again.
There were already several small wounds there.
She continued reading. Most of the Alphas Wen Huaxi had come into contact with were from school. Apart from normal academic interaction, there was nothing deeper.
So for now, it seemed Wen Huaxi had not developed feelings for anyone else.
Yan Qinglan let out a sigh of relief.
Then she stiffened. Why was she relieved by something like that?
Did she… like Wen Huaxi that much?
That couldn’t be. She was just concerned about her because she was carrying her child.
But this level of concern might be more than that…
She decided to leave it until after the baby was born.
Yan Qinglan stayed in bed until five thirty, then got up quietly and carefully.
Looking back, she could still see Wen Huaxi murmuring something in her sleep. There was no sound, just the gentle movement of her lips.
Yan Qinglan watched for a couple of minutes, then finally leaned in and gently touched Wen Huaxi’s lips with her finger.
It was a light, delicate gesture filled with unspoken tenderness.
It was like kissing her favorite lips with just a fingertip.
Realizing what she was doing, Yan Qinglan quickly pulled back her hand and left the room in a hurry.
Wen Huaxi’s alarm rang at six.
She opened her eyes drowsily, remembering that before she fell asleep, she had tied Yan Qinglan up.
But when she turned her head, there was no sign of Yan Qinglan. Not even the rope remained on the bed.
She sat there for a moment, wondering if she had imagined it all.
In any case, she wasn’t tied up this morning, so she quickly got out of bed and rushed back to her own bedroom.
She was just about to dive into her soft bed with a flying leap, but right before she landed, she remembered to be more careful for the baby’s sake and stopped herself.
“Xiaoxi.” Yan Qinglan had appeared in the doorway at some point. The door was half-open. She leaned against the frame and watched her.
“Xiaoxi really doesn’t pay attention to safety,” Yan Qinglan sighed and walked into the room, catching Wen Huaxi before she fell and helping her stand steady. Then she led her into the bathroom.
“Hey, don’t just walk into my room like that,” Wen Huaxi said, her cheeks slightly pink. She followed Yan Qinglan, puzzled as she saw her picking up her toothpaste.
“I’m taking care of you. That’s not just barging in,” Yan Qinglan said, squeezing toothpaste onto her brush.
Why was she being so nice all of a sudden? Wasn’t she a germaphobe? She even squeezed her toothpaste for her?
Wen Huaxi took the toothbrush, still dazed. Then she saw Yan Qinglan pick up her face towel, rinse it, and start adjusting the water temperature.
Wen Huaxi was so shocked she nearly swallowed a mouthful of toothpaste.
She coughed violently from the mint, pushed Yan Qinglan away, and leaned over the sink.
Yan Qinglan patted her back gently. “I told you to be more careful.”
“You startled me,” Wen Huaxi said as she rinsed her mouth. Just as she was recovering, a warm towel was pressed to her face. She instinctively closed her eyes, surprised by the comforting sensation.
“Yan Qinglan, what are you doing? I can do all this myself.”
Yan Qinglan ignored her protests and finished wiping her face. Wen Huaxi then grabbed a dry towel and wiped herself off, glaring at her.
“I told you, I’m taking care of you,” Yan Qinglan said, picking up Wen Huaxi’s makeup products and examining the ingredient list with a frown.
“Let’s get you a new set. These ingredients aren’t the best.”
“Thanks… wait, no. That’s not the point. Taking care of someone doesn’t mean handling every single detail. Yan Qinglan, are you feeling alright?” Wen Huaxi stepped back cautiously.
Yan Qinglan looked at her with a complicated expression.
“Xiaoxi, I believe now that the baby is ours. So what’s wrong with taking care of you?”
Wen Huaxi froze for a moment.
Was she still dreaming? Wasn’t this exactly what had happened in her dream last night?
She thought back carefully and suddenly realized.
From the moment she tied up Yan Qinglan to the moment Yan Qinglan coaxed her to sleep—it had all really happened.
For Yan Qinglan’s attitude to change this much overnight… had her little one entered Yan Qinglan’s dream?
Whatever the case, she didn’t need Yan Qinglan following her around like this. “Still, you don’t need to do everything for me. I can handle it.”
“You almost fell just now,” Yan Qinglan said seriously, making Wen Huaxi feel a little embarrassed.
“I just… never mind. If you don’t mind doing it, go ahead. My hair needs brushing too. Help me,” she said, handing her the brush.
“Let’s get you a new brush too.”
“You’re really particular,” Wen Huaxi said, sitting down casually.
“For Xiaoxi, and for our child, I should be,” Yan Qinglan replied calmly.
Our child.
Wen Huaxi wasn’t used to hearing that. Her head dropped slightly, and her ears turned red.
No need to say more. She remembered where the child had come from.
Having such thoughts early in the morning, it was too embarrassing.
“Xiaoxi, in your film, there aren’t any intense physical scenes to shoot, right?”
While they were eating breakfast, Yan Qinglan suddenly remembered and asked.
“No. It’s not that kind of film. Want a copy of the script?” Wen Huaxi had paid close attention to that.
“Sure. Also, in two weeks, you’ll be filming near Shuiqing City, right? I’ll go with you.”
Wen Huaxi nodded while eating her steamed bun.
She knew Yan Qinglan was planning to investigate the ancient clan.
No one knew what they might discover in Shuiqing City, or whether it would be dangerous.
“You’re going home again today?” Around noon, Yu Xiyun sat down next to Wen Huaxi and joined her for lunch.
“Yes. I always go home before we move to a new filming location.” Wen Huaxi shrugged. Yan Qinglan was intense. If she didn’t go back, Yan Qinglan might just show up on set and confront her in public.
“I’ll treat you to a real meal once filming wraps.” After spending two weeks together, Wen Huaxi didn’t see her romantically, but she did think of Yu Xiyun as a friend.
“Only if it works for you.” Yu Xiyun reached over and gently wiped a grain of rice from the corner of Wen Huaxi’s mouth.
Wen Huaxi’s face softened slightly. She still had food in her mouth and hadn’t reacted yet when a familiar voice called out, “Xiaoxi.”
She quickly swallowed her food, a chill running down her spine.
She turned slowly. Sure enough, it was Yan Qinglan.
“Hi.” Wen Huaxi forced a bright smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“What are you doing here?” Wasn’t she supposed to be busy? She had ignored her messages earlier, so what was she doing here now?
“I brought lunch.” Yan Qinglan kept her answer short, pulled up a stool, and sat beside Wen Huaxi. She unpacked the meal she had brought.
Wen Huaxi wanted to point out that the production already provided lunch, but she was afraid Yan Qinglan would mention her pregnancy, so she simply nodded.
It was her again. Yu Xiyun glanced at Yan Qinglan, her gaze darkening slightly.
Every time this woman showed up, Wen Huaxi’s attention went straight to her.
Watching it happen always left a strange discomfort in her chest.
If they were just sisters, it wouldn’t feel this uncomfortable.
The only explanation was that this woman had feelings for Wen Huaxi.
She even brought her lunch.
Yu Xiyun didn’t look directly at Yan Qinglan, but she could feel the weight of her gaze and sat a little straighter.
Yan Qinglan had seen Yu Xiyun touch Wen Huaxi’s face to remove the rice. That made her even more grateful that she had come in person.
If it had reached the point where they were wiping food off each other’s faces, what would come next? Hugging? Touching? Kissing?
Just thinking about it made Yan Qinglan act with more urgency. She opened the food she brought, picked up a spoon, and tried to feed Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi leaned back slightly. There were so many people around. If she let Yan Qinglan feed her, it would be far too embarrassing.
She bit her lip and glanced toward Yan Qinglan, trying to send a silent message. If she wanted to feed her, they needed to go somewhere private, like the break room.
But Yan Qinglan misunderstood the look. She thought Wen Huaxi didn’t want Yu Xiyun to see the moment.
Yan Qinglan’s expression darkened. Without another word, she brought the spoon close to Wen Huaxi’s lips and gently tried to open them.
Wen Huaxi started to panic. Yan Qinglan had already made the move, and it was too late to pull away. She reluctantly took the bite, her eyes growing misty from the pressure.
“We should go to the break room.” She swallowed quickly, stood up, and tugged on Yan Qinglan’s arm.
“Why?” Yan Qinglan tried to soften her expression, but when her eyes swept past Yu Xiyun, the forced smile on her face became slightly tense and sharp.
Wen Huaxi felt a chill run through her. “There are too many people watching. Please, let’s go to the break room.”
She shook Yan Qinglan’s arm, her voice gentle and pleading.
“Alright.” Yan Qinglan couldn’t say no to Wen Huaxi when she used that tone.
Before leaving the set, Yan Qinglan gave Yu Xiyun one last look. Her eyes held a challenge she herself didn’t even notice.
Yu Xiyun simply smiled.
Her rival seemed formidable.
She had managed to pull Wen Huaxi away in an instant. It was half voluntary, half forced.
Was this the kind of person Wen Huaxi liked?
Inside the break room, Wen Huaxi finally relaxed. Her usual carefree attitude returned as she grabbed Yan Qinglan’s arm.
“What were you thinking? There are so many people on set. You really had to feed me in front of everyone? Trying to show off?”
Yan Qinglan opened her mouth to mention Yu Xiyun, then stopped. It didn’t feel necessary. She lowered her gaze and put on a pitiful look.
“I only wanted to take care of you.”
Luckily, Wen Huaxi wasn’t truly upset. She tugged at Yan Qinglan’s cheeks a few times and let the moment go.
“Still, don’t do that again. I’m not famous yet, but if I become known one day and you pull a stunt like that, I’ll end up dealing with all kinds of rumors. You better handle it if that happens.”
She tapped Yan Qinglan on the forehead. “Seriously, what were you thinking? If people start talking, it’s going to be a headache.”
“I understand. I was wrong.” At least Wen Huaxi wasn’t rejecting her just to avoid being seen by Yu Xiyun. Yan Qinglan felt a small sense of relief.
She really didn’t understand the complicated world of showbiz. Maybe she had acted too boldly.
“Hmph.” Wen Huaxi crossed one leg over the other, but then thought better of it and switched to a proper posture. “You can feed me now.”
Yan Qinglan had no choice but to act like a little maid, feeding Wen Huaxi one bite at a time.
This girl truly knew how to enjoy being pampered. She didn’t show any sign of embarrassment.
After eating, Wen Huaxi said she wanted a short nap. Yan Qinglan lay down with her on the break room bed.
“It’s just a short break. Is this really necessary?” Wen Huaxi asked as Yan Qinglan held her hand.
“Then think of it as me missing you,” Yan Qinglan said, her voice calm even though her words were intimate.
Wen Huaxi didn’t take it seriously. She let out a sound of protest, then closed her eyes and allowed Yan Qinglan to do as she pleased.
When she woke up, Yan Qinglan was already packing her things.
“You’re leaving now?” Wen Huaxi climbed off the bed and moved close to her.
She had to admit, she kind of missed her.
Just a little.
“Yes. I have work to do.” She had already stayed longer than expected. She hadn’t planned to nap with Wen Huaxi.
“Alright. I was going to ask you to stay and watch me act. Oh well. Bye.” Wen Huaxi didn’t try to keep her. She sent her off without hesitation.
“If I have time, I’ll come back.” Yan Qinglan paused, then turned and gently patted the top of Wen Huaxi’s head.
Wen Huaxi stood still, quietly feeling the warmth and weight of the hand on her head.
“You have to keep your word,” she finally said after the gentle touch ended, her voice soft and careful.
“I will. See you tonight, Xiaoxi.” Yan Qinglan left the set.
Wen Huaxi tried to shake off the sudden sense of disappointment and got ready for the afternoon shoot.
“So, Wen Huaxi, the woman who came earlier. Is she your girlfriend?” Yu Xiyun appeared the moment Wen Huaxi stepped out of the break room, ready for answers.
