Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 35
Yan Qinglan didn’t see the little girl’s face clearly, but based on her height, she guessed the child was around three years old.
At three, a child should already have some understanding of the world. So why would she call a complete stranger “Mommy”?
Yan Qinglan didn’t have a child.
Even if she did…
In her dream, Yan Qinglan thought of the baby growing in Wen Huaxi’s belly.
But she had never marked Wen Huaxi. In fact, she had never even been that physically intimate with anyone in her life.
There was no way that baby could be hers.
Still, Yan Qinglan began to consider the possibility. Maybe Wen Huaxi’s child had simply followed her and called her Mommy as well.
After all, they were now legally married, even if it was only because of a mutual agreement.
That contract was only known to the two of them. Yan Qinglan had not even told her secretary.
If the child was calling her Mommy simply because of the marriage, then it was understandable.
But did that mean Wen Huaxi truly didn’t know who the Alpha parent of her child was?
“Mommy, Mommy, why aren’t you hugging me like before?” the little girl bounced over to Yan Qinglan, grabbing at her pants.
Once she confirmed it really was her Mommy, she jumped into her arms without hesitation.
Yan Qinglan froze at the child’s sudden and forward action.
No one ever got this physically close to her so freely. Not even a child.
Well, there had been one exception lately. But Yan Qinglan had been working hard to correct that mistake.
She picked the little girl up by the back of her clothes like she was lifting a kitten.
“Mommy! What are you doing? You always lift me like this and it’s so uncomfortable!” The little girl grew upset and started kicking and punching in the air.
That tone and voice were exactly like Wen Huaxi’s.
It was obvious that this child was Wen Huaxi’s daughter.
Yan Qinglan’s expression softened a little. She held the child properly and looked at her face.
One glance, and she almost dropped the child in shock.
This little girl looked exactly like she did as a child.
Yan Qinglan sat her down on a nearby chair. Five minutes had passed in the dream.
The little one conjured butterflies and flowers out of thin air and chased them around playfully.
Yan Qinglan sat in the chair, deep in thought.
Yan Mingzhu had a photo album filled with her childhood pictures.
After she returned home, Yan Mingzhu had shown her that album every single day.
That was why she was so certain. This child looked just like her.
Or maybe “looked like” wasn’t strong enough. Her features were completely identical, especially those almond-shaped eyes, deep green in color.
The only thing different was the hair, which clearly came from Wen Huaxi. It was red, like the roses the little girl had just created.
Maybe even her body type was similar. Yan Mingzhu had said she was tall as a child. But this little girl was still tiny, like a little radish.
“Are you my child?” Yan Qinglan was so stunned that she didn’t bother to hide her feelings. She stared at the little girl, unable to look away.
“Of course, Mommy. You finally remember me?” The little girl ran over and hugged her again.
Yan Qinglan hesitated for a moment before reaching out and holding her.
“You’re really my biological daughter?” She asked again, still unable to believe it.
“Yes! My Mommy looks just like you, and her name is Yan Qinglan. You are Yan Qinglan, aren’t you?” The child seemed annoyed by the repeated questions and opened her mouth like she wanted to bite.
That, too, was exactly like Wen Huaxi.
“Your hands are dirty.”
The little girl stopped immediately and looked disgusted.
She even had the same cleanliness obsession. That must have come from her as well.
Whether Yan Qinglan wanted to admit it or not, it really seemed like this child was her own.
But how was that possible?
That question lingered in her mind, even as the child said it was time to leave. Yan Qinglan still couldn’t figure it out.
It wasn’t like Wen Huaxi was so obsessed with her that she secretly stole a strand of her hair and took it to a lab.
Even with today’s technology, there was no way Wen Huaxi could get pregnant just from a hair sample.
Even if artificial insemination was involved, it would require her personal visits to the hospital, which wouldn’t be cheap either.
Considering Wen Huaxi’s financial situation, she probably couldn’t afford it.
But then again, Wen Huaxi did have an older sister who owned a company.
Yan Qinglan forced herself to stop imagining impossible scenarios and left the dream world.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw someone moving in front of her. Then she noticed her hands and feet were tied with rope.
After a few seconds of full awareness, her gaze met a pair of big, round, adorable eyes.
The girl blinked a few times, stunned, and froze completely.
“Xiaoxi…” One surprise after another.
Yan Qinglan’s lips twitched. She really didn’t know what to do with Wen Huaxi.
Even when Wen Huaxi crossed boundaries and approached her without permission, she didn’t feel angry.
Instead, she found this petty, calculating girl even more endearing. Even her attempts at revenge were cute.
Clearly, Wen Huaxi hadn’t expected her to wake up.
She made a nervous sound and froze for a moment, then suddenly sped up her movements.
Before Yan Qinglan could react, she quickly tightened the rope. If she didn’t move fast, it would be too late.
She was going to be scolded anyway, so she might as well finish tying her up.
With practiced speed, Wen Huaxi tightened the rope and tied it into a neat bow, not bothering to ask whether Yan Qinglan felt uncomfortable. Then she slipped back under the blanket.
She covered herself completely and shut her eyes, pretending nothing had happened.
If someone didn’t know better, they might think she was preparing for winter. Even her feet were tucked in.
Yan Qinglan sighed. She hadn’t even had time to process what that dream child meant to her, and now she had to deal with her disobedient wife.
Wen Huaxi closed her eyes and mentally prepared herself for interrogation.
She had waited until Yan Qinglan was fast asleep before making her move. Who knew she would wake up so quickly?
Okay, maybe she did take a little nap halfway through.
But it wasn’t that long, was it?
It was already four in the morning. Yan Qinglan looked out the window and estimated the time.
She would have to get up in just over an hour.
There was no need to argue with Wen Huaxi about this. Yan Qinglan pushed back her sense of pride.
Wen Huaxi was already pregnant with a child that carried her blood. Pregnant women needed emotional stability. There was no harm in letting her have her way.
So Yan Qinglan closed her eyes and pretended none of this had happened.
A few minutes passed. Wen Huaxi didn’t hear the scolding she had expected. Although Yan Qinglan had never been harsh, even when she was angry, the most she ever said was “You’re really something,” with a calm expression.
But this silence didn’t feel right.
Wen Huaxi opened one eye and looked to the left. Still no reaction.
She suddenly sat up.
That movement should have been obvious enough. Was Yan Qinglan really still asleep?
Wen Huaxi pouted and scooted closer to her.
After all, Yan Qinglan was tied up now. She couldn’t do anything to her.
She could use this chance to poke Yan Qinglan a little, play with her cheeks and fingers, hehehe…
As long as this person was asleep, she really was to her liking.
There had to be a good reason she had liked Yan Qinglan for so long. The most obvious one was that Yan Qinglan was beautiful.
Wen Huaxi wanted to lie on top of her, but she was mindful of the baby, so she leaned over instead.
She gazed at Yan Qinglan’s perfectly sculpted face for a while, then let out a satisfied sigh and slowly raised her hand.
Before her finger even reached Yan Qinglan’s cheek, her hand was suddenly caught.
She froze. What? She’s awake?
It was one thing for Yan Qinglan to be awake, but wasn’t she tied up?
Yan Qinglan opened her eyes and let out a quiet sigh.
“Xiaoxi, be good, don’t make trouble. Sleep a little longer, it’s still too early.” Her voice softened as she thought of Wen Huaxi and the baby.
That gentle tone startled Wen Huaxi. She didn’t dare lie back down for a moment.
“Yan… Yan Qinglan, are you still half-asleep?”
Why was she using that voice to speak to her?
Who was this person? Please, someone take her away and give her back the ruthless woman she knew.
Why is it that the moment she treats Wen Huaxi a little nicer, Wen Huaxi thinks there’s something wrong with her?
“You’re pregnant, of course I need to take better care of you,” Yan Qinglan explained.
Even before she knew the child was really hers, she had felt it was right to show extra care to a pregnant woman.
Now that she believed the child in Wen Huaxi’s belly was her own, that reason felt even more valid.
But Wen Huaxi pulled her hand back and quietly said, “It’s not your child, though.”
Still trying to deny it.
Yan Qinglan rested her hand gently on Wen Huaxi’s shoulder and pressed slightly so she would lie down again. “I believe in you, Xiaoxi.”
“Believe what?” That sentence came out of nowhere. Just because she believed in her, she had to treat her kindly?
Wen Huaxi felt nervous. Who knew what tricks Yan Qinglan had up her sleeve?
“I believe you weren’t with anyone else. That the child is mine,” Yan Qinglan said calmly, though she still didn’t understand how it was possible.
There was no way Wen Huaxi got pregnant just through thought alone.
Even with the pressure from her family, she had never wanted a child.
Wen Huaxi looked truly shocked now.
Had she woken up wrong? Did she wake up too quickly and end up with this Yan Qinglan who believed the child was hers?
“But we’ve never done anything. You haven’t even marked me. I don’t even know what your pheromones smell like.”
Of course Wen Huaxi knew all this. But she couldn’t tell her about her past life.
If she were going to say anything, it should be everything at once. About her rebirth, about the child.
And she would only tell her sister, not this version of Yan Qinglan who had “nothing to do with her.”
Who was Yan Qinglan to her now? She hadn’t earned the right to know yet.
If she told her, who’s to say Yan Qinglan wouldn’t have her taken away for dissection and scientific research?
Wen Huaxi shivered at the thought and placed her hand over her belly protectively.
She valued her life. There was no way she would tell Yan Qinglan.
“Biluochun, the scent of green tea leaves,” Yan Qinglan said, ignoring everything else Wen Huaxi had just said.
She didn’t know how Wen Huaxi got pregnant with her child.
But the fact was, it happened.
Thinking about it more carefully, Wen Huaxi must have been just as shocked.
Suddenly having a child with no clear origin. No wonder she had sat on the sofa crying for so long that day.
No one could blame her for turning to desserts for comfort.
She should buy her some new cookies next time.
But then, Yan Qinglan realized something else.
Wen Huaxi also knew they had never been physically intimate.
So how was she so certain the child was theirs?
Was she just making it up?
She had kept insisting the baby wasn’t hers just a few days ago.
Or did she have proof?
When Yan Qinglan didn’t believe her, Wen Huaxi had looked so hurt.
“Right…” Yan Qinglan didn’t want to confront that question directly, and Wen Huaxi had no more to say.
“So, go back to sleep,” Yan Qinglan said gently, stroking Wen Huaxi’s hair.
After coaxing her to sleep, Yan Qinglan suddenly recalled the strange memories she had.
A pile of memories, vivid as if she had lived through them herself, yet with no known origin.
In those memories, they had fooled around and been close many times.
Even just what she could remember now had more than ten instances.
All of them involved marking.
With how frequently she had marked Wen Huaxi in those memories, if she hadn’t ended up with a child, that would be the strange part.
Could it be that she had marked Wen Huaxi in her memories, and that somehow caused her to become pregnant in real life?
What a ridiculous thought.
Even someone like Yan Qinglan, who wasn’t strictly materialistic, felt speechless at the absurdity of it.
If getting someone pregnant through memory or thought was really possible, then she was the one who should be taken away for research.
In two weeks, Wen Huaxi and her team would be filming near Shuiqing City.
Yan Qinglan had a strong feeling this whole thing was somehow connected to those reclusive people.
She needed to investigate thoroughly.
Not only to give herself an explanation but also for Wen Huaxi, who had been so heartbroken.
She felt a surge of tenderness for her Xiaoxi, who had chosen to keep the child despite knowing nothing.
In her sleep, Wen Huaxi unconsciously leaned closer to Yan Qinglan.
Yan Qinglan simply pulled her into an embrace and studied her peaceful face.
She looked serene, soft, and beautiful like a spirit formed from pure energy. Even her sleeping face didn’t seem human.
This was her contractual wife.
If only there was no contract involved.
That thought startled Yan Qinglan. She took a deep breath, gently let go of Wen Huaxi, and got up to check if she had any pending work.
She picked up her phone. During the night, her assistant had sent over information about Yu Xiyun and others Wen Huaxi had interacted with.
Yan Qinglan held her breath. Strangely, she was a little nervous.
