Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 30
Yan Qinglan placed her hand gently on Xiaoxi’s lower abdomen. Even with a layer of clothing between them, the feeling was unmistakable.
She wasn’t pressing down, her touch was light, but it still made Xiaoxi nervous.
This unpredictable alpha was terrifying.
Who knew when she might suddenly lose control and lash out?
Xiaoxi wanted to run. But at that moment, her shoulders and waist were both held tightly by Yan Qinglan. She couldn’t move.
“Can’t answer me?” Yan Qinglan looked at Xiaoxi’s frightened expression and felt a surge of irritation in her chest, though she kept her face calm and composed.
“Don’t worry, Xiaoxi. I won’t do anything to that person.” At most, she would find him, make him disappear, and ensure he never showed up in Xiaoxi’s life again.
She was the one on the marriage certificate. She was the legal wife. As long as she was still here, that was enough.
“There’s no one else,” Xiaoxi said quickly, her heart racing and her eyes filling with tears.
She swallowed her panic and tried to look less guilty.
The baby was really theirs. It was just that the truth belonged to their past life. Why should she feel guilty?
She should have taken control of the situation and blamed everything on Yan Qinglan first.
“It’s yours. The baby is yours,” Xiaoxi said, forcing herself to stay calm. She smiled a little, trying her best to look sincere.
Then she leaned up and gave Sister Qing a soft kiss on the chin.
It was barely there. If you didn’t pay close attention, it felt like nothing had happened.
But a warm breath lingered on the skin, soft and tender, slowly seeping into Sister Qing’s heart.
The kiss had landed. A faint trace of warmth remained on her chin like a drop of morning dew. It was delicate, intimate, and quietly enchanting.
“Sister Qing, look how much I like you. How could I be with someone else?” After the kiss, Xiaoxi really did feel calmer and was no longer afraid to speak her mind.
Maybe it was because Sister Qing didn’t resist. She sat there, quiet and still, almost obedient, and that made Xiaoxi feel a rush of tenderness. She leaned up again and kissed her on the cheek.
“You already know I like you.”
The sound of the kiss, paired with her direct words, made something twist painfully in Sister Qing’s chest.
She hadn’t recalled any new memories. Logically, she shouldn’t be this emotionally stirred.
But when she heard Xiaoxi say she liked her with such sincerity, and when she saw those soft almond-shaped eyes filled with emotion, her heart still reacted.
There was affection, frustration, and confusion all tangled together, weighing down her chest.
Sister Qing bit her lip, using the pain to pull herself together.
Still, her hand gently moved across Xiaoxi’s belly, as if trying to feel the tiny embryo growing there. A life that shared Xiaoxi’s blood and carried the genes of some unknown alpha.
To hide that person, Xiaoxi had gone as far as to lie. She even claimed to love her.
Sister Qing wanted to get rid of that man. And maybe even the child that carried his blood.
Her palm hovered over Xiaoxi’s belly button, as if trying to trace the shape of her pregnancy.
But it was still too early. There was no noticeable bump, only the smooth softness of Xiaoxi’s skin.
“If you don’t want to say, then forget it.” In the end, Sister Qing couldn’t bring herself to do anything. She couldn’t go that far. She wasn’t willing to.
She had promised herself to stay behind the line, to treat Xiaoxi as a contractual partner, as someone she barely knew.
But every time she saw her, her heart betrayed her.
And even now, she couldn’t be truly close to Xiaoxi. There was no reason to be. Their relationship wasn’t that intimate.
Shameful thoughts she had tried to suppress started rising again.
They tugged at her nerves, so much so that even this once affectionate gesture now felt like brushing against thorns.
“I didn’t lie. Don’t go,” Xiaoxi called out, seeing Sister Qing about to walk away.
She had done her best to stay passive, just to calm her down.
She couldn’t deny the heat lingering in her body. It was sticky, uncomfortable, and deeply frustrating.
She didn’t want Sister Qing to walk away with the wrong idea.
Xiaoxi got up quickly and caught up to her before she could go upstairs.
“Sister Qing, wouldn’t I know if you marked me or not?” Sister Qing said when Xiaoxi grabbed her arm.
She wanted to shake her off, but a small rush of emotion stopped her.
That flicker of happiness was annoying. It made her realize she had been hoping Xiaoxi would stop her. That maybe, she even wanted Xiaoxi to touch her.
Even though she had more memories of them together now, memories of laughter and closeness, Sister Qing still remained clear-headed.
She knew she had never been with anyone. Never once. Even though attractive omegas passed by her from time to time.
Since she had differentiated as an alpha at seventeen, she had gotten through every heat cycle using suppressants.
Sometimes it was white peach, sometimes honey. Recently, she had taken a liking to cherry-flavored ones—the same kind Xiaoxi used. It worked better, helping her quickly regain control and clarity.
She had always remained abstinent. She had never marked anyone. So where did this baby come from?
Xiaoxi knew this. Which made her even more anxious.
She clung to Sister Qing’s arm, thinking of the lie she had just told. Then, without thinking too much, she blurted out everything.
“You… you have sleepwalking issues, did you know? Some people sleepwalk and commit crimes. You sleepwalk and mark people. You really marked me. More than once!”
At least the last part wasn’t a lie. That gave Xiaoxi some confidence.
In their last month together in their past life, everything had spiraled out of control. The marks came again and again. They hadn’t cared about the toll on their bodies. They had just clung to each other, desperate to hold on.
During that time, Xiaoxi sometimes felt like Sister Qing really did have feelings for her.
It was a kind of love buried under ice, rarely shown, but when it surfaced, it came with a scent like fresh tea leaves—subtle and addictive.
But she never got to see that ice melt.
She had waited for four years. She had waited an entire lifetime. She couldn’t do it again.
So what did it matter if Sister Qing believed her or not?
Xiaoxi suddenly let go and took a step back.
“If you don’t believe me, then forget it.”
She lowered her eyes, using silence to shield herself, as if she were retreating.
But it still got to Sister Qing.
Even if the story was ridiculous—sleepwalking? Really? It was almost laughable.
Still, Sister Qing said nothing. She turned and walked toward her room.
Xiaoxi stood at the foot of the stairs for a long time. Then she quietly took out her phone and called Xiao Liu.
She was going back to the hotel. At least for a little while.
If it got too unbearable, she could stay with her sister. There was no reason to keep enduring Sister Qing’s suspicion and cold eyes.
She began packing her things slowly.
A part of her was hoping Sister Qing might stop her. Another part was afraid of facing that same cold and heartless look again.
About five minutes later, Sister Qing returned to the living room.
“Where are you going?”
Xiaoxi saw her walk in and immediately question her. Her eyes turned red as tears welled up.
“You’re the one who told me to leave. I’m going back to the hotel.”
If she said a little more, she would start crying like a red-eyed bunny and start blaming Sister Qing, that heartless alpha.
Sister Qing sighed. She had come down because of a message from Xiao Liu. After hesitating for a while, she finally came to check on Xiaoxi.
At first, she thought she shouldn’t show up. If Xiaoxi wanted to leave, she should let her.
But when she imagined Xiaoxi sitting all alone, waiting for her ride in silence and feeling wronged, her heart couldn’t take it. So she came downstairs.
“Don’t go. Hotels aren’t clean. It’s better for the baby if you stay home.”
Sister Qing sat down beside her as she spoke.
Xiaoxi scooted away, trying to make space. But Sister Qing pulled her into her arms.
“What are you doing? The baby isn’t even yours!” Xiaoxi snapped, suddenly getting angry again.
This woman didn’t believe her earlier, gave her the cold shoulder, acted like she wanted nothing to do with her. Now she was being all gentle again, pretending like everything was fine and hugging her like before?
When Xiaoxi said that, Sister Qing’s first thought was that she was lying.
She was just upset and saying things to get back at her.
Then Sister Qing realized she was willing to believe the nonsense about sleepwalking that Xiaoxi had made up earlier.
Since Xiaoxi didn’t want to say the truth, she would investigate on her own.
Until she found a suspicious alpha, she would just assume she had somehow marked Xiaoxi in her sleep.
“You said earlier the baby was mine,” Sister Qing said, her emotions tangled and heavy, but her eyes still focused on Xiaoxi.
“I was lying. You really don’t know if you marked me or not? I went out and messed around, okay? So many alphas. All of them rich and good-looking and nice to me. I don’t even know who the father is!” Xiaoxi was so angry she didn’t care how she sounded.
Sister Qing’s expression darkened, and she reached out to pinch Xiaoxi’s lips shut.
“Mm-mm!” Xiaoxi glared at her and, the moment Sister Qing let go, tried to bite her hand.
“You really don’t have that cleanliness obsession anymore,” Sister Qing said flatly, letting her bite.
She hadn’t even washed her hands properly. Her fingers weren’t clean at all.
“It’s just a bite. Not like I licked you,” Xiaoxi mumbled, releasing her hand.
“Don’t say things like that about yourself. It’s not necessary. If you won’t explain, I’ll look into it myself.” Sister Qing pulled out a wet wipe and calmly cleaned her hands.
She actually wouldn’t mind if Xiaoxi did lick her.
“Go ahead and investigate. If you find anything, I’ll be impressed,” Xiaoxi said with a cold glance.
She had kept herself clean. She only went to bars to catch Sister Qing in the act, and even if she met new girls, she always had friends with her.
The hotel? That was just a place to hide from Sister Qing and get work done.
If Sister Qing actually found anything suspicious, then something was seriously wrong.
“Still not going to tell me?” Sister Qing shook her head and gently pushed Xiaoxi onto the couch, settling her into a spot that made her close her eyes a little from how comfortable it was.
“I already told you. The baby is yours!” Xiaoxi huffed.
Sister Qing didn’t reply. She just turned on the TV and sat with Xiaoxi to watch, refusing to say another word.
“…What is this?” Xiaoxi looked at the screen and nearly laughed.
“Prenatal education videos. And from now on, you’ll need to limit your screen time. Radiation from electronics isn’t good for you or the baby.”
Xiaoxi was speechless. She didn’t want to watch this.
“I barely touch my phone when I’m filming.”
Sister Qing patted her on the head like she was praising her.
“I meant in the later months, once your work is done. Did you apply for your leave? If not, I can help you get approval from the school.”
“I already applied.” Xiaoxi felt like Sister Qing was taking this way too seriously. It hadn’t even been that long, and she already had prenatal education lined up.
“Just five minutes today. You still need to watch.” Sister Qing pulled her back when she tried to get up.
“…Are you going to read bedtime stories to the baby next too?” Xiaoxi rolled her eyes, remembering how some couples would do that and wanting to tease her.
“You’re absolutely right,” Sister Qing nodded without hesitation, wrapping an arm around her. “Which means starting today, you’ll be sleeping with me.”
Sister Qing’s possessiveness was starting to show.
