Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 20
“A dating show… sure. Once there’s news, I’ll let you know, Xiaoxi.” Yan Qinglan didn’t refuse her.
Even though next year was still far off, many shows took a long time to prepare. If it was planned for next year, there might already be some early movement.
Even with her additional memories, Yan Qinglan didn’t think it would impact her life.
Even if it meant she hadn’t gone out to flirt with new girls in a long while, and had even barged into someone else’s home to find Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi finally gave her a bright smile.
Once she settled the matter of the baby, her film would probably be finished and ready to release around this time next year. It was the perfect opportunity to stir up publicity.
After all, she wasn’t joining the dating show to become famous. She was there for romance.
Once filming wrapped, she’d have to find herself another production to join.
In her last life, she filmed mostly movies. Maybe this time, she could try television dramas for a change?
Not that she couldn’t do both. Whichever script was better, she’d go for that one.
Wen Huaxi mapped out her entire career in her head, and her mood improved noticeably.
Yan Qinglan glanced at the little one beside her who had suddenly started grinning to herself, and her eyes flickered slightly.
“Xiaoxi, the pacifiers you ordered just arrived.” Yan Qinglan said the word carefully, sounding a bit awkward.
Still, her tone was calm and even had a hint of curiosity.
In the past, Wen Huaxi could always talk her way out of it through WeChat.
But now she was stuck in a small car, with Yan Qinglan sitting right beside her, barely half a meter away.
Wen Huaxi swallowed hard. There was no way she could escape this time.
“Okay, got it,” she said vaguely, hoping to delay the conversation by even a minute.
“There were quite a few in the box. I took a look. They seem to be decent quality,” Yan Qinglan added with a straight face and a hint of teasing in her eyes. Her tone only became more sincere.
Wen Huaxi was left speechless, her eyes nearly bulging.
What was she saying with such a serious expression? She even inspected them?
“You opened my package? Why?” Wen Huaxi glared at her but quickly withdrew her reaction, trying not to show how guilty she felt.
Hooked. The more flustered Wen Huaxi got, the more suspicious Yan Qinglan became, though she still couldn’t figure out the real reason.
“You weren’t home. I thought it might not be yours. The housekeeper brought the package inside, and I opened it by habit,” Yan Qinglan said innocently as she casually rubbed the back of Wen Huaxi’s neck. “I was wrong. I won’t open your things again. As long as you’re home.”
She she she… why did she always have to use her hands?
Wen Huaxi felt a sudden ticklish sensation around her gland, making her shiver and her knees weaken slightly.
Last time, Yan Qinglan had flirted with her so much she entered her heat cycle. It was utterly embarrassing.
Now her gland seemed to remember the feeling and was becoming restless again.
Wen Huaxi nearly bit her lip. She had a baby now. How could she still be thinking like this?
“Don’t touch me…” Her voice trembled and carried a hint of tears.
Her gland was reacting normally.
Yan Qinglan withdrew her hand and pushed aside the ridiculous guess that had been forming in her mind.
“So Xiaoxi, were the pacifiers for a friend? Do you need me to rewrap them for you?” Yan Qinglan started probing.
Her words were too direct, and Wen Huaxi immediately became alert. Her explanation came out almost instinctively.
“Why can’t I use them myself? I’m just a two-year-old baby. I want to use pacifiers too.”
She absolutely could not say they were for someone else. What if Yan Qinglan really went and wrapped them up as a gift?
Yan Qinglan had suspected they weren’t a gift anyway.
But Wen Huaxi’s excuse was beyond anything she had expected.
She never thought the girl would go so far as to claim she used pacifiers herself.
How could she not play along with that?
Yan Qinglan smiled. “Then I’ll have to keep an eye on you. Since you’re just a two-year-old baby. What if you hurt yourself while using one?”
Wen Huaxi’s expression instantly turned sour, as if she had swallowed a fly. It was priceless.
Even if she was two years and several dozen months old, it still counted as two. She had to believe her own words were true.
Wen Huaxi was left at a loss, while Yan Qinglan continued pondering why she had really bought those pacifiers.
Neither of them said much on the way home.
But once they entered the house, Wen Huaxi tried to sneak back into her room, only to find she couldn’t get away.
Yan Qinglan grabbed her wrist and pulled her straight into her arms.
“Yan Qinglan! Stop hugging me all the time!” Wen Huaxi didn’t want to admit that she was the one who went weak in the knees every time Yan Qinglan touched her waist.
If she had known, she would’ve just had a baby with Yan Qinglan the first time around. Why did she agree to a whole month?
Now she had developed a conditioned reflex.
“If I don’t hold you, will you really stay?” Yan Qinglan narrowed her phoenix eyes slightly.
She leaned in and whispered near Wen Huaxi’s ear. “I just don’t want you running away again.”
“I’m not running. Seriously. Just let go,” Wen Huaxi was forced to make a promise.
Yan Qinglan’s lips brushed against the tip of her ear like a reward. “You said it. If you run again, don’t blame me for not going easy on you.”
“Yeah yeah just let go already!” Wen Huaxi nodded quickly, dodging her lips, not knowing she’d soon regret breaking that promise.
Yan Qinglan released her. “Since Xiaoxi promised, then I’ll stay and watch you use the pacifier.”
As she spoke, she pulled out the pacifier she had already cleaned and handed it to Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi was stunned by her serious expression.
How could someone say such outrageous things with such a straight face?
“The bottle’s been washed too. I’ll go get some water. Do you want milk or juice?” Yan Qinglan patted her two-year-old baby on the head and walked into the kitchen.
She didn’t expect a real answer.
Sure enough, by the time she came back with milk, Wen Huaxi had vanished.
After searching the house and finding no trace of her, the curve of Yan Qinglan’s smile turned colder.
She ran again.
She had already arranged for someone to follow her.
Today… she’d play one round of cat and mouse.
Meanwhile, Wen Huaxi had practically flown out the door. If she hadn’t been careful not to overexert herself, she might have set a personal record for speed.
She quickly left the villa, desperate to escape the terrifying woman at home.
Now she truly understood how dangerous Yan Qinglan could be.
So calm and composed, yet she had dug such a huge trap for her to fall right into.
Wen Huaxi suddenly remembered the promise she had just made about not running away again.
But right now, she couldn’t think about that. If she did, she might actually end up drinking from the pacifier she had bought for the baby, all because of Yan Qinglan.
How could someone be so unbearable? And worse, impossible to shake off.
Wen Huaxi took a deep breath and got into a taxi, heading straight to a hotel with better privacy.
But the moment she arrived, she saw Yan Qinglan already standing at the entrance, waiting for her.
As soon as she saw her, Wen Huaxi turned around, ready to run again.
“Xiaoxi.” Yan Qinglan’s voice was gentle and affectionate. It made Wen Huaxi freeze in place.
“If you keep running, I can’t promise what I might do.”
Wen Huaxi nearly burst into tears on the spot.
For the first time since she was reborn, she really wanted to cry out for her mother.
It was also the first time she felt truly certain about wanting a divorce.
Living under the same roof with someone like this was like throwing herself into a lion’s den.
What chance did she have at self-defense? If Yan Qinglan managed to coax her or trick her again, she would be completely done for.
Wen Huaxi slowly turned back around, her face filled with frustration and unwillingness.
When she saw the baby bottle in Yan Qinglan’s hand, her panic grew even worse.
Yan Qinglan began walking toward her.
She was tall, calm-faced, and every step she took seemed to carry pressure that filled the air.
Wen Huaxi let out a choked sob and started crying uncontrollably.
Yan Qinglan was startled by the sudden burst of tears and stopped for a moment.
But Wen Huaxi no longer cared about what was happening around her.
She cried and cried, entirely focused on her emotions, just like an actual two-year-old baby.
Yan Qinglan felt a headache coming on. This was the same girl who had secretly bought those strange items, who disappeared for a week without a word, and who had just promised not to run off again—only to escape immediately.
Yet somehow it felt like she was the one who did something wrong.
All she had done was tease her a little. She never truly intended to make Wen Huaxi drink from a bottle.
Yan Qinglan put the bottle away in her bag, walked over, and gently tried to pull Wen Huaxi into her arms.
“Alright, Xiaoxi. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have messed with you. Let’s go home now.”
“I don’t want to go home with you,” Wen Huaxi said through tears, still sniffling. Yet her face had already buried itself in Yan Qinglan’s chest.
As her tears soaked through the front of her shirt, Yan Qinglan tensed slightly.
She resisted the urge to push this tearful girl out of her space and instead turned her gently in her arms.
“I was wrong, Xiaoxi. Come on, let’s go. You promised me, remember?” Yan Qinglan let out a soft sigh and nearly carried Wen Huaxi back into the car.
About thirty minutes later, Wen Huaxi had cried herself tired. She leaned back against the seat, finally quiet.
Seeing that she had calmed down, Yan Qinglan took the opportunity to clear up the earlier misunderstanding.
“Xiaoxi, I was just joking before.” She reached out and gently wiped away the tears from Wen Huaxi’s face.
Wen Huaxi was caught off guard. She leaned away from her and said, “Then why did you bring the bottle?”
“I didn’t think you’d react so strongly. You were the one who said you wanted a pacifier,” Yan Qinglan replied, sounding genuinely confused.
“Not in front of you!” Wen Huaxi snapped. She reached out and pinched Yan Qinglan’s arm hard.
Yan Qinglan didn’t react. Her face stayed calm as if she didn’t feel any pain.
The skin turned red from the pinch. Wen Huaxi was still angry, so she moved to pinch another spot.
Her emotions were completely normal and unrestrained. Nothing about her behavior suggested pregnancy.
Yan Qinglan took note of this, using the moment to quietly test her.
After venting enough, Wen Huaxi slapped Yan Qinglan’s hand away and turned to look out the window.
She could still feel eyes staring at her from behind.
What was wrong with Yan Qinglan today? She kept watching her like she couldn’t get enough.
In the past, even when they were sitting next to each other, Yan Qinglan never looked at her like this.
Wen Huaxi turned around and scowled. “What are you looking at?”
“I’m looking at how cute you are,” Yan Qinglan replied casually.
Wen Huaxi felt a rush of frustration that she couldn’t get out. She looked even more annoyed. “You’re not allowed to look.”
“I can’t help it. I like looking at you,” Yan Qinglan said with a light, teasing tone. “Name your price.”
She was trying to use money to resolve the tension between them.
Wen Huaxi blinked, then rolled her eyes. “Take me to the auction in three days.”
Yan Qinglan was caught off guard but quickly did a mental calculation of her current funds. “Alright.”
Hearing her agree, Wen Huaxi’s temper started to ease.
Now that she had calmed down, Yan Qinglan didn’t try to touch her again.
They had spent the whole day going back and forth like this, and yet only a tiny portion of her memory had returned.
Maybe she needed to try a different method next time.
Yan Qinglan kept thinking, glancing over at Wen Huaxi from time to time.
Wen Huaxi ignored her completely.
Over the next three days, Wen Huaxi went back to the hospital for another check-up. Her mood didn’t seem to affect the baby, which was a relief. She also managed to make up with Wen Suixue, and the two sisters went shopping together.
The rest of her time was spent at home sketching designs and studying films and dramas from more experienced creators.
Yan Qinglan kept track of her movements and was growing more and more curious about the hospital she visited.
She had a feeling that some hidden truth was getting closer.
On the morning of the auction, Wen Huaxi went out with a friend.
After the housekeeper finished cleaning her room, she was just about to take out the trash.
“Wait a moment,” Yan Qinglan said as she looked into the trash can in the study and spotted what looked like a crumpled report.
She put on three layers of gloves, then, with visible reluctance, picked up the paper and carefully unfolded it.
