Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 18
Wen Suixue looked as though she had just heard something shocking. For a moment, she stood frozen, unable to react.
Wen Huaxi let out a soft sound and tugged gently at her sister’s sleeve.
“Sis, are you alright?” she asked. All she had said was that she no longer liked Yan Qinglan. Surely that wasn’t enough to startle her sister like this.
Wen Suixue finally snapped out of it. Her eyes widened as she looked at Wen Huaxi.
“Say that again, Huaxi?” she asked. She truly thought she must have misheard.
Wen Huaxi pressed her lips together and repeated patiently, “I really don’t like Yan Qinglan anymore. We might not be able to get divorced just yet since her family’s situation is a bit complicated. But sooner or later, we will separate.”
Then she added casually, “I’m planning to find someone new.”
Wen Suixue clutched her chest and gasped.
“My sweet sister, you finally came to your senses.”
She felt genuinely touched. Her once hopelessly infatuated younger sister, the one who had fought with her countless times and even cut ties over someone who never loved her back, had finally awakened.
As an older sister, Wen Suixue almost wanted to open a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
And she meant it. She ordered some takeout so she could enjoy a meal with her beloved little sister.
To be honest, even if Wen Huaxi had still liked Yan Qinglan, Wen Suixue would not have held it against her anymore.
She had been angry, but she cared more about their relationship as sisters and had never wanted things to turn so bitter.
Now that Wen Huaxi had let go, their reconciliation happened quickly and naturally.
Looking at the table full of her favorite dishes, Wen Huaxi smiled so hard her cheeks started to hurt.
“A toast to my sister for finally escaping from that Yan woman,” Wen Suixue said with a grin, clinking glasses with her. Then she quickly took the wine glass from in front of Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi looked speechless. She knew she could not drink right now, but still, she was already twenty years old.
Clearly, her sister still treated her like a child.
After their meal, the two sat down and chatted about Wen Huaxi’s design plans.
While they were talking, Wen Huaxi noticed a familiar name on a document on her sister’s desk. Remembering her past life, she took mental note.
“Sis, are you planning to work with Lu Yi?” she asked. Lu Yi was a talent agency that focused on training models.
“I’m still considering it. Why? Do you think it’s a bad idea?” Wen Suixue asked.
“You might want to take another look,” Wen Huaxi said carefully. Nothing had been confirmed yet, so she didn’t want to say too much.
In her past life, Lu Yi had offered very favorable terms and had helped her sister’s fashion brand gain national recognition.
But the daughter of Lu Yi’s chairman had been trouble.
Wen Huaxi pressed her lips together slightly. Fortunately, her sister hadn’t met that woman yet.
“I just thought their conditions looked good. But if you don’t like them, I can drop it,” Wen Suixue said immediately, showing her full support.
She was clearly in big-sister mode and willing to respect Wen Huaxi’s opinion completely.
“No, if the terms are good, you should consider it. I just heard that the chairman’s daughter isn’t the easiest person to deal with. That’s all.”
She felt a small reminder couldn’t hurt.
“That’s what you’re worried about? I won’t even be interacting with her. Don’t worry about it,” Wen Suixue replied with a wave of her hand.
Wen Huaxi kept her face calm, but she was rolling her eyes on the inside.
It seemed like their family was destined to fall for the wrong people. In her past life, her sister had been treated as a stand-in and never even realized it. She had devoted herself to someone who never returned her feelings.
In the end, the situation turned ugly. Lu Yi had pulled out of the partnership without warning, which caused a major setback for her sister’s business.
Being reborn so early meant most of those events hadn’t happened yet, but it also left Wen Huaxi feeling helpless, like someone holding the script before the play had even started.
As the workday came to an end, Wen Suixue turned to her with a sincere invitation.
“Huaxi, why don’t you stay with me tonight? You shouldn’t keep going back to the Yan family’s house. What if she uses it to pressure you later?”
In her heart, Wen Huaxi silently replied. Yan Qinglan wanted the divorce just as much. Neither of them wanted to be stuck in this marriage.
If it weren’t for pressure from both families, they would have split up long ago.
“I’ll stay here for the summer,” she said. “After that, I’ll be filming a movie. I’ve been cast in a role.”
She leaned her head on her sister’s shoulder like a spoiled child.
“Sis, I’m finally starting my own career.”
In her past life, Wen Suixue had never gotten the chance to see that happen.
Later, Wen Huaxi learned that no matter how busy her sister was, she would always try to attend her premieres.
Even when Wen Huaxi was caught in a scandal, her sister had scrambled to find help for her.
There had been regrets in that life. But now, she had the chance to make things right.
“My sister is going to be incredible. What kind of film is it? Is the director any good?” Wen Suixue asked with excitement.
“It’s directed by Qin Shuyue. So yes, it’s going to be good,” Wen Huaxi replied, her eyes sparkling. “Just wait for me to win an award.”
Wen Suixue was stunned again.
Her little sister, still a university student with no background or connections, had managed to land a role in a film by a famous director?
“Huaxi, tell me the truth. Did Yan Qinglan help you get the role?” she asked, suddenly concerned. Her mind filled with the kinds of news stories she had seen about rich alphas supporting omega students.
“Do you really think she’s that generous? Come on, I got the role myself. Director Qin doesn’t care about backgrounds.” Wen Huaxi rolled her eyes.
If that heartless ex-wife had actually remembered to help her out, she might have begrudgingly accepted the favor. But there was no chance of that happening.
The two sisters laughed and chatted all the way back to Wen Suixue’s house.
Meanwhile, back at the Yan residence, Yan Qinglan arrived home expecting to continue rebuilding her relationship with Wen Huaxi and possibly unlock more memory fragments.
Instead, the house was empty.
She sent a message to ask where Wen Huaxi had gone.
Five minutes later, she tried to send another.
She discovered she had been blocked again.
Yan Qinglan stood still, completely stunned. Her mind went blank.
That girl really had guts. Not only had she refused to come home, but she had also blocked her again. Was she planning to stage a rebellion?
Furious, Yan Qinglan ordered someone to find out exactly where Wen Huaxi had gone and what she had done that afternoon.
Then she opened her conversation with Leng Yueshan and accepted her dinner invitation.
As if she had nothing better to do than stay home waiting for that little brat.
Her usual composed expression was nowhere to be seen. She picked up her bag and slammed the door behind her.
At the restaurant, Leng Yueshan was already waiting.
When she saw Yan Qinglan walk in, her pale face finally showed a hint of color. A soft blush spread across her cheeks, and her smile widened as she waved her over.
But throughout the meal, Yan Qinglan was clearly distracted.
She kept glancing at her phone, as if waiting for a message that never came.
Leng Yueshan felt a chill run through her heart. After a moment of hesitation, she finally asked in a trembling voice, “Lan… Lan, are you expecting someone else to meet you later?”
Yan Qinglan finally put her phone away.
“Sorry, Yueshan. There was a small issue at home. I wasn’t able to give you my full attention just now. Let me treat you to this meal.”
Seeing Yan Qinglan’s calm expression and her usual polite smile, Leng Yueshan said nothing more and lowered her head. But her heart was still uneasy.
In the end, Yan Qinglan never received a message from Wen Huaxi.
However, her assistant had found out that Wen Huaxi had entered the commercial district earlier that day and went up to the floor where Wen Suixue’s office was located.
Yan Qinglan had looked into Wen Huaxi’s background before and knew she had an older sister who ran a company.
So it seemed Wen Huaxi had not gone to meet a new lover, but had visited her sister instead.
Then why had she blocked her and ignored her calls?
Yan Qinglan grew more annoyed the more she thought about it.
She turned back to Leng Yueshan, complimented her outfit with a hand brushing gently across her cheek, then picked up a spoonful of food and tried to feed her.
That was how Yan Qinglan released her frustration.
After sending Leng Yueshan home, she wandered into a bar and spent some time flirting. She added a new pretty face to her contacts, made the girl laugh with joy, and only then returned home.
But even after she came back, Wen Huaxi was still not there.
Looking at the quiet living room, Yan Qinglan felt strangely out of place.
Over the past few weeks, she had gotten used to coming home and seeing Wen Huaxi there. Sometimes, she would find her lounging in the massage chair with a face mask on, resting with her eyes closed. When she came in, Wen Huaxi would occasionally lift her head to greet her.
Other times, she would be curled up with a cushion, a plate of snacks in front of her and the television playing something in the background.
They would exchange a few jokes and then have dinner together.
Now, suddenly, the space was empty and silent. Yan Qinglan’s eyes turned cold.
She was probably just not used to it. That was all.
But days passed, and she still could not reach Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi continued sending snacks to her as usual. However, the moment she asked where Wen Huaxi was, she would be blocked again.
What exactly was going on?
Yan Qinglan frowned at her phone. She figured she would have to go over in person and find her unruly little wife.
“Qinglan, are you worried about your wife?” Meng Qingzhou draped her arm lightly around Yan Qinglan’s shoulders. “Don’t look at me like that. I won’t cross the line again like last time.”
Yan Qinglan didn’t push her away.
“You overstepped before,” she said calmly.
“I know.” Meng Qingzhou leaned in closer. “Qinglan, if you really don’t like her, then why not get a divorce?”
Meng Qingzhou had worked hard to gain Yan Qinglan’s favor again and had carefully chosen a time when Wen Huaxi wasn’t around to show up.
“Qingzhou, don’t talk nonsense.” Even if what she said was true, Yan Qinglan would not let it be used against her later.
Besides, she wasn’t so sure anymore that she truly disliked Wen Huaxi.
Her emotions were in turmoil, making her thoughts cloudy and her tone far less composed than usual.
Meng Qingzhou didn’t seem to care. “Qinglan, why not look at me instead? I don’t want a romantic relationship. I just want to marry you.”
This time, she made her intentions very clear.
If they were to marry, it would be mutually beneficial. She knew Yan Qinglan liked to play around and had no intention of stopping her.
Yan Qinglan finally raised her hand and removed the slender fingers that had been brushing against her back.
Someone like Meng Qingzhou, who clearly had motives beyond affection, was even more dangerous and troublesome than Wen Huaxi.
Just as she was about to leave and go find her uncooperative contract wife, she turned around and saw Leng Yueshan standing nearby, completely stunned.
Yan Qinglan did not care that she had been caught with Meng Qingzhou. She nodded at her and walked away without hesitation.
Leng Yueshan sat down across from Meng Qingzhou, her voice trembling as she finally spoke.
“Who are you to Lan?”
On the other side of town, Wen Huaxi had been living like a princess at her sister’s place, enjoying a perfectly peaceful and indulgent week.
The sky was clear, the weather was nice, but nothing was as good as having her sister nearby.
She reclined in the luxurious bathtub that Wen Suixue had spared no expense to install just for her, soaking in the warmth and letting herself fully relax.
There were snacks and fruit on a tray beside her, and the television screen was cast right in front of her.
If she got bored, the nearby sound system could play her favorite songs with just one click.
It was almost too luxurious. Wen Huaxi looked around at the extravagant setup and clicked her tongue in admiration.
She hadn’t even asked for any of this. It was all from her sister, freely given.
It wasn’t her fault she was being spoiled. She hadn’t asked for it. She was just being forced to enjoy it.
What she didn’t know was that the contract wife she had been ignoring for the past week had gone half mad with longing and had finally tracked down Wen Suixue’s address.
Yan Qinglan arrived unannounced.
Wen Suixue was working that day, and Wen Huaxi disliked having others in the house, so even the housekeeper was off.
When the doorbell rang, Wen Huaxi found it a bit strange.
Maybe her sister had ordered something again?
She got dressed and went to the door.
Then she looked into the security camera monitor and saw Yan Qinglan’s face staring back at her.
