Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 16
Wen Huaxi finally reacted to Yan Qinglan’s actions. She clutched the medical report tightly and shifted to the side, refusing to let Yan Qinglan succeed.
This move unexpectedly sparked a strange sense of determination in Yan Qinglan.
She leaned in closer, half-kneeling on the sofa to block the escape of this stubborn little troublemaker.
At least she tried to talk first before attempting to take the report by force. “Huaxi, are you feeling unwell? I’m familiar with this stuff. I can help you take a look.”
However, Wen Huaxi reacted like a startled cat. She suddenly shrank back and quickly hid the report behind her.
“No, I won’t let you see it.” She was still sobbing, tears falling more heavily, her temper rising. Her tone was sharp, as if Yan Qinglan had done something terrible to her.
Yan Qinglan quickly replayed her recent behavior in her mind.
She was certain that since returning from the family estate, she had not upset Wen Huaxi.
They had not interacted much over the past few days, but she came home on time every evening and greeted Wen Huaxi every morning and night. Even when she worked overtime, she would text her and ask her to leave the door unlocked.
In fact, to stop this little brat from stealing her desserts, Yan Qinglan had been bringing home different kinds of food each day to keep her distracted. She had been doing everything she could.
If she was being honest with herself, she thought she was doing a great job. So where did Wen Huaxi’s anger come from?
And she scolded her so fiercely. Although Yan Qinglan did not mind being scolded, at least she wanted to know why.
She even ate her cookies.
“I’m just worried about you, Huaxi. If you’re really sick, I could help contact a doctor early.”
Yan Qinglan leaned in a bit more, shortening the distance between them.
Her warm breath brushed across Wen Huaxi’s face, making her shiver. Even the soft fuzz on her face trembled.
Then there were Yan Qinglan’s eyes, usually sharp and intense. Now they had softened, her features gentle, as if she truly cared about Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi was caught off guard by such a close gaze. For a moment, her mind went blank. She even forgot why she was so angry at her.
Fortunately, the emotional strength she had built up over the past few months helped her recover quickly. In just a few seconds, she pulled herself out of the confusion that came from Yan Qinglan’s cold but concerned eyes.
“I’m not sick.” Her voice was firm. She was pregnant, not ill.
And most likely, she was carrying the child of this cold-hearted woman.
“Then why are you crying so hard?” Yan Qinglan frowned slightly.
She did not really think Wen Huaxi was sick.
Wen Huaxi looked fine. She was eating, drinking, and still full of sass.
But crying this much for no reason? As her contract wife, Yan Qinglan felt she should at least show some concern.
Especially because the girl had eaten all the cookies she had hidden.
That was the real issue on Yan Qinglan’s mind.
Her poor stomach had not even tasted one bite. The cookies were gone, devoured like a whirlwind.
How many had she eaten in one afternoon? And how long had she cried?
Were her cookies some kind of tear-inducing snack?
The more she thought about it, the more restless she felt. She needed to know why Wen Huaxi was crying.
She leaned closer again, using the method that used to help calm her. She gently touched Wen Huaxi’s earlobe.
But Wen Huaxi did not react at all, which made Yan Qinglan feel even more confused.
That move always worked. Why was it failing now?
She increased the pressure slightly, her fingers brushing lightly along Wen Huaxi’s collarbone.
She had originally wanted to press the girl’s lower lip, which was red and slightly swollen from being bitten. But her obsession with cleanliness held her back.
With her other hand, she gently reached for Wen Huaxi’s waist, trying to add a touch of intimacy.
But before her hand even reached Wen Huaxi’s stomach, Wen Huaxi grabbed her wrist hard and threw it aside.
“Why do you care? Do we even have any relationship? Whether I cry or not, what does it have to do with you?” Wen Huaxi shouted angrily. Right now, the last person she wanted to see was Yan Qinglan.
Yet Yan Qinglan kept leaning in and even tried to touch her belly.
In her mind, Wen Huaxi cursed her from both lifetimes and still did not feel better.
Especially when she looked into Yan Qinglan’s innocent eyes and felt the lingering tickle on her ear. Her anger only grew stronger.
This woman was hateful. Even after being reborn, she still could not escape her shadow.
In the past month alone, she had failed to get a divorce, failed to find a new love, and could not even contact her sister.
The only thing she had managed was to reconnect with Qin Shuyue.
And now, she was pregnant.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she became. She reached out and squeezed Yan Qinglan’s face hard.
Before Yan Qinglan could react, she started kneading her cheeks like dough.
“Huaxi!” Yan Qinglan had intended to tease her but ended up being caught off guard. She froze, then helplessly endured the pain for a couple of seconds before reacting.
She reached for Wen Huaxi’s hands and spoke more urgently.
Normally, when Wen Huaxi managed to get the upper hand like this, she would take the opportunity to tease Yan Qinglan and humble this proud alpha.
But today, she was not in the mood.
Once Yan Qinglan stopped her, she let go and covered her face with her hands, continuing to cry.
Yan Qinglan was completely defeated.
No matter how curious she was, she needed to wash her face first.
Wen Huaxi had touched cookies, wiped tears, and then smeared it all over her face.
If she thought about it any longer, her skin would start to crawl.
She left the living room quickly, every step showing her discomfort and frustration.
Wen Huaxi did not want to stay there either. She grabbed the chocolate cookies she had pulled out earlier, took the medical report, and returned to her room.
Thankfully, she was not truly twenty years old. Otherwise, in this kind of situation, she might have thought about ending everything.
She wiped away her tears, stared at the report for a long time, and finally tossed it aside in frustration.
Even with the experience of her previous life, she still did not know what to do.
Last time, she had made a clear decision. She had planned for the pregnancy and made all the necessary preparations.
She took more than half a year off to rest and prepare. She had baby supplies ready, found a caregiver, and created a peaceful environment.
Back then, she had money and time.
As an actress, she had won several awards and was loved across the country. She had both fame and wealth. Raising a child was not a problem.
But now, she was just a college student.
She had no money, and she had already lined up a job that would begin in about three months.
Wen Huaxi gently placed her hand on her belly, trying to feel the life inside her. It had come at the worst possible time, but it was still a part of her.
Quietly, she felt another heartbeat. It was connected to her but still unique, still separate.
She leaned back in her chair and looked at the ceiling.
In the end, she still wanted to keep this little one.
That night, after the emotional roller coaster and exhaustion from crying, Wen Huaxi fell asleep early.
In her dreams, a sweet little child with chubby cheeks came running toward her.
“Mommy, we finally met again!”
The little girl, around three years old, ran toward Wen Huaxi with sparkling eyes the moment she saw her.
Before her brain could catch up, Wen Huaxi instinctively reached out and picked the child up, the motion fluid and natural.
“I love cuddling with Mommy and Mama,” the little one said softly, her chubby face rubbing against Wen Huaxi’s chest. She smelled sweet like milk, and the affection in her voice made Wen Huaxi laugh without thinking.
“Mommy loves hugging you too,” Wen Huaxi replied gently, her eyes softening. She knew this child was her daughter.
At that moment, the bond between her and her child felt very real.
And with it, Wen Huaxi knew she could never abandon this little life growing inside her.
The child said a few more sweet things, making Wen Huaxi laugh again and kiss her cheek without hesitation.
“When will I get to see you, my baby?” Wen Huaxi asked softly, playing with the child while feeling the dream start to fade.
“In a little over half a year,” the little girl replied, waving her tiny hand. “Mommy, remember to prepare warm clothes. It will be cold.”
As the dream faded into a soft white light, Wen Huaxi slowly opened her eyes.
Looking down, she saw that her blanket had slipped halfway off, leaving her belly exposed.
No wonder her baby had said it was cold. She quickly covered her stomach with the blanket, trying to give her little one some warmth.
She had not had time to think about it in the dream, but now she replayed everything carefully. Something about it felt off.
Her child had said, “We met again.”
She had also said, “Mama.”
Wen Huaxi tried to recall the child’s appearance. The first thing that came to mind was a pair of sharp, bright eyes that looked exactly like Yan Qinglan’s.
Her expression froze.
She was almost certain now. This child was the same one from her previous life.
It seemed that when she was reborn, her child had come along too.
Wen Huaxi sighed, her hand gently resting on her belly.
Little one, you have brought Mommy a lot of trouble.
Still, no matter what, she was going to keep this baby.
It was rare and precious that her daughter had crossed time to be with her again. If she gave that up, it would be far too cold-hearted.
Thinking back to the child’s soft and thoughtful words in the dream, Wen Huaxi smiled.
Thankfully, the baby had not inherited Yan Qinglan’s personality.
After getting out of bed, she sent the design draft she had hesitated over for days to her sister’s email.
Then, she began searching online for essential items for newborn care and started placing orders.
When she saw Yan Qinglan again during breakfast, she no longer felt as annoyed as the day before.
But she would not say she was pleased either. Even if the mistakes were made by the Yan Qinglan from her previous life, that did not mean she could easily forgive the one standing in front of her now.
So, she took out the chocolate she had swiped yesterday, unwrapped it, and held it out to Yan Qinglan.
“Sister Lan, do you want some? I found this at home yesterday. It’s delicious.”
Yan Qinglan’s mouth twitched. It was her favorite chocolate, the only snack she genuinely liked.
She had not noticed it was missing yesterday, but apparently this little troublemaker had found it.
“If you don’t want it, that’s fine. Something this fattening is better left to someone like me with a fast metabolism,” Wen Huaxi added with a serious face, already pulling the chocolate back and raising it toward her mouth.
“Wait, Huaxi,” Yan Qinglan finally lost her cool. Forgetting her usual image, she reached out to snatch the chocolate from Wen Huaxi’s hand.
“I bought this,” she said, ignoring her usual obsession with cleanliness, grabbing the chocolate and taking a bite on the spot.
Wen Huaxi was stunned by how shameless she looked.
Was this really the same obsessive-compulsive germophobe she knew? She actually bit directly into it?
After not detecting any strange flavors, Yan Qinglan finally relaxed and chewed more slowly.
If she could save even one piece, she would. That brand of chocolate was hard to find.
“Can’t Sister let me have some too?” Wen Huaxi asked, covering her chest and looking heartbroken as her eyes turned red.
“You seriously don’t know how many you already ate?” Yan Qinglan glared at her. When it came to food, she turned into a fierce protector and had no patience for reasoning.
Afraid Wen Huaxi might come up with some ridiculous excuse, her voice grew sharper.
She made no effort to hide her edge. Her strong features and raised brow created an invisible pressure that seemed ready to crush everything in its path.
Wen Huaxi blinked and easily deflected the intensity like it weighed nothing.
“I didn’t eat that many. Besides, isn’t it considered shared property? Sister can just buy more, right?”
She even squeezed out a few tears and looked up at Yan Qinglan with an innocent expression.
Yan Qinglan struggled to swallow the half-chewed chocolate.
“You wouldn’t refuse to buy me a little snack, would you? Just some chocolate. I know Sister isn’t that stingy,” Wen Huaxi said sweetly, her smile pure and harmless.
Yan Qinglan rolled her eyes internally, but on the surface, she had to keep up her act as the dependable and caring big sister.
“Of course not. I’ll buy more right away,” she replied, teeth slightly clenched.
Seeing Yan Qinglan being forced to compromise, Wen Huaxi finally felt better and stopped fussing.
Watching the now quiet girl, Yan Qinglan began to realize a pattern.
Was this just morning grumpiness with nowhere to vent? So she used her as a punching bag?
Thinking about it, Yan Qinglan became even more curious about the medical report Wen Huaxi had tried so hard to hide the day before.
What could possibly be so serious that the anger still hadn’t faded overnight?
But she could not just barge into Wen Huaxi’s room to check.
Sure, she could try to find out which hospital Wen Huaxi had visited and what she had checked for. But that would be a hassle.
Most of her attention was already tied up investigating someone named Gu Lian, and she had no energy left to dig into Wen Huaxi’s business.
Yan Qinglan had intended to let it go. But after receiving several days’ worth of credit card notifications, she could no longer stay calm.
She could accept her card being used for other purchases.
But diapers and baby bottles? What in the world was that about? How old did this girl think she was?
