This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 83
They followed the doctor’s instructions, planning to share the news with their families after the fetal development stabilized at twelve weeks of pregnancy.
Lu Xinghe also followed the doctor’s advice, yielding to Duan Yuluo in almost everything.
If he wanted to feed the fish in the middle of the night, they fed the fish. If he woke up wanting a foot soak, they soaked his feet. If he was hungry, Lu Xinghe cooked whatever he craved. Even during the day, he was on call, and even when not called, he would still go to the corporation to supervise his meals.
After all, these were all things he could easily manage.
But…
It was midnight again.
Lu Xinghe wasn’t deeply asleep when he felt a pat on his chest. He opened his eyes, turned over, and embraced the ‘ancestor’ who had woken up mid-sleep: “What is it? What do you want to eat or play with now?”
Duan Yuluo leaned close to his ear and whispered: “I want to review a contract. Can I?”
Lu Xinghe: “…” That woke a person right up.
Waking up at midnight to feed fish, eat, or soak his feet—none of these were major issues.
But reviewing a contract in the dead of night?
This behavior of getting up late at night just to look at documents was something he had looked up in many pregnancy-related incidents, but Duan Yuluo’s habit of climbing out of bed to read files was the most outrageous and helpless thing he had ever encountered.
Unbelievable.
In the dead of night, at four in the morning, the study light was on.
Duan Yuluo put on the glasses placed on the desk, intending to finish the project file about the East City land that he hadn’t finished that afternoon. If he hadn’t overslept at noon, he wouldn’t have left the East City land matter unfinished. Now, he felt he had to finish it before going back to sleep, otherwise, his secretary would be under a lot of stress.
The silence in the study was broken only by the sound of pages turning.
Of course, if one could ignore the Alpha standing at the door like a silent sentinel.
Duan Yuluo turned another page, simultaneously glancing at Lu Xinghe standing by the door. He knew his husband was annoyed, but he only gave him a quick look before lowering his head to finish the last two pages.
“Duan Yuluo, do you know what time it is?”
A deep, restrained voice, slightly stern, but already suppressed to prevent it from sounding too aggressive, echoed in the study.
“Almost done, the last two pages,” Duan Yuluo turned to the final page and picked up his pen to sign his name on the designated client spot. After signing, he quickly closed the file and held it up for Lu Xinghe to see: “Look, I’m finished.”
Lu Xinghe met Duan Yuluo’s bright gaze and his serious, expectant expression, which was clearly asking for praise. He was seriously about to laugh out of exasperation. He helplessly raised his hand to cover the light switch: “Now that you’re done, go back to sleep. I’m about to turn off the light.”
Hearing him threaten to turn off the light, Duan Yuluo instantly got up from the chair, pushed it back under the desk, made sure to cap his pen, and then quickly walked to Lu Xinghe’s side and took his hand.
“Let’s go, back to sleep.”
Seeing his action, Lu Xinghe couldn’t help but turn his head away, his lips slightly curved into a smile. He really was exasperated into laughter.
Duan Yuluo leaned in to look at him. Seeing that he wasn’t angry and was smiling, he also chuckled: “I think I’m being a little funny.”
There was nothing funnier than doing something ridiculous and the person doing it admitting that they found their own actions amusing.
In the lamplight, the Omega’s eyes were curved with laughter. Without the added formality of business attire, dressed in loose pajamas, he was in his most relaxed state in front of his Alpha, showing his most beautiful, affectionate side—a sight that was impossible to resist.
Lu Xinghe had no choice but to pick him up, his solid arms effortlessly supporting his hips, and carried him back to the bedroom. He laughed, a hook to his lip:
“So you know you’re being funny.”
“I mainly felt that I shouldn’t delay the secretary’s work schedule just because of myself. It’s truly my fault for sleeping late,” Duan Yuluo held onto Lu Xinghe’s neck, explaining his day: “If I’d known, I would have set an alarm. Sleeping an hour longer caused all the afternoon’s work to be delayed.”
“Are there any other difficult projects recently?”
“I’m currently handling the Guardian Chip projects, mostly derived projects. This includes bidding for that East City land to build the Guardian Chip base and preparing to introduce the chip into smart real estate and automotive fields. I have to report and be reviewed at next month’s shareholders’ meeting.”
As the newly appointed CEO of Galaxy Corporation, he had more responsibilities than before. He was under the watchful eye of the Shareholders’ Meeting, with all his uncles and aunts on the board, and supervised by the Family Office. Old Master Chu still held the Chairman position and absolute shares, so he couldn’t afford to slack off in any of his actions.
Especially since the CEO is subjected to an annual performance review. If his results fail to meet the Board of Directors’ approval, he won’t be able to stay in this position for long.
Therefore, he could only try his best to handle all matters in a relatively stable condition.
The two lay back down in bed.
Lu Xinghe let him rest his head on his arm. Hearing this, he thought of the project he was currently investing in: “I know about that East City land.”
“You know about it?”
“Yes, I have several potential investment projects that are preparing to acquire that land for development. We can get a very favorable price from the government.”
“What would you do with that land?”
“That land is perfectly situated where the city suburbs meet the new city development, and it’s near the high-tech park. Urbanized economy and economies of scale are conducive to agglomeration in this location. It’s ideal for a tech park.”
Duan Yuluo looked up at him: “Are you sure you’ll get this land?”
Lu Xinghe met his gaze and smiled knowingly: “You want it, don’t you?”
Duan Yuluo thought of the available funds he could utilize. He could probably just throw money at the land to acquire it, but his Family Office didn’t fully recommend this location for the base, suggesting an alternative plan.
Frankly, he didn’t like the second option very much.
Although he currently held some decision-making and operational power, many large-scale projects still required approval from the Family Office, and it wasn’t up to him to decide based on his preference.
This was entirely different from working at Galaxy in Country D, where he was directly with headquarters.
“I have my heart set on this plot. Honestly, I don’t think much of the Xilin plot.”
Lu Xinghe sensed a hint of frustration in Duan Yuluo’s tone and roughly guessed the situation: “If you want this land for the gene-testing base, then I’ll invest in the project for you. I plan to set up a branch station for the Haven security network in that vicinity, and the government can offer me a very suitable price for the land.”
“How did you get government resources?”
“What does your husband do?”
“Network technology.”
“Exactly,” Lu Xinghe smiled: “They want to use my Haven system and want me to move the Haven headquarters there. They offered me the best land resources. This plot is a promising tech zone. Once I acquire it, I can develop it or attract investment; I can do whatever I want.”
Duan Yuluo felt a little glum hearing this. Although he was the CEO of Galaxy Corporation, in terms of freedom, Lu Xinghe was definitely more free than him. In terms of wealth, Lu Xinghe’s disposable assets were much higher than his.
He snuggled into Lu Xinghe’s shoulder and neck, wanting to wrap his arms and legs around him. He whispered: “You’re so amazing.”
Lu Xinghe knew he was being affectionate, smiled, and gently stroked his back: “Alright, I know. I’ll get this land for you.”
Duan Yuluo’s eyes brightened, and he felt a little shy about it, burying his face into Lu Xinghe’s shoulder: “Boss, thank you for staying up late with me to look at documents.”
Lu Xinghe laughed and held him tight: “It’s fine. Sleep now. Tomorrow, we have our first prenatal check-up.”
The little one he was carrying had reached seven weeks, and it was time for the first prenatal check-up.
Duan Yuluo immediately closed his eyes: “Okay, sleeping. Good night, Xingxing.”
Lu Xinghe gently rubbed the back of his neck, his actions tenderly coaxing him to sleep. In less than two minutes, the Omega in his arms was breathing steadily, fast asleep.
He lowered his head and kissed the top of his head.
Good night, his most beloved darling.
…
Fortunately, the results of the first prenatal check-up were all good, and no abnormalities were temporarily found in the genetic disease screening.
“The check-up results look good for now, but you shouldn’t let your guard down, especially after the twelve-week check-up. The expectant father’s body and the baby in the belly will undergo new changes. I must remind you that during the entire pregnancy, due to the influence of estrogen, you will experience one to two rut periods.”
Duan Yuluo’s mind went blank for a few seconds when he heard this.
Was he expected to do that with Lu Xinghe while pregnant? Would sitting down be more convenient?
Lu Xinghe saw Duan Yuluo silent, thinking he was scared, and planned to alleviate the little expectant father’s anxiety later.
After all the check-ups were finished, they left the hospital and talked on the way to the parking lot.
“Baby, are you scared of the rut period?”
“?” Duan Yuluo didn’t understand why he asked: “Why would I be?”
“I saw you weren’t saying anything just now.” Lu Xinghe opened the passenger door for him, his hand resting on the car door, letting him sit inside.
Duan Yuluo bent over to get into the car.
He had a shareholders’ meeting that afternoon, and he was wearing a sharp, black formal suit. The custom-tailored suit outlined his slim, taut waist as he bent over. At only seven weeks pregnant, there was no noticeable change yet.
Lu Xinghe’s Adam’s apple bobbed; he looked lost in thought.
After Duan Yuluo sat properly, he looked at Lu Xinghe, who was staring at him with an indiscernible, deep, and implicit look in his eyes: “I’m not scared. If it really comes, you just need to follow my lead.”
Lu Xinghe’s hand resting on the car door tightened slightly. After a moment, he bent down to fasten his seatbelt: “That’s good, then.”
“If it really happens, I’ll just ride you.”
With a click, the seatbelt was fastened with a forceful snap.
Lu Xinghe: “…”
Duan Yuluo laughed, seeing his reaction: “What’s wrong?”
Lu Xinghe finished fastening the seatbelt, stood up, put both hands on the car roof, and lowered his gaze, his voice slightly husky: “Don’t say things like that. You saying that makes me scared.”
Duan Yuluo looked up at him briefly, then calmly shifted his gaze away: “If you don’t give it to me, I’ll ride you after you fall asleep.”
Slam! The car door was shut.
A sense of even greater fear was definitely involved in that sound.
The car drove toward Galaxy Corporation.
The automatic doors of the lobby slowly opened. The receptionist saw Duan Yuluo return to the corporation, walking side-by-side with Lu Xinghe: “Good afternoon, General Manager Duan, General Manager Lu.”
The address ‘General Manager Lu’ was not wrong. The technology showcased at the Galaxy Defender Chip launch in Country D was well-known in the industry, and he was currently a highly paid technical consultant at Galaxy Corporation, not to mention the Alpha of the current CEO of Galaxy Corporation.
Duan Yuluo nodded in acknowledgment and asked: “Have any of the directors arrived early?”
The receptionist replied: “Director Chu Beihang and Director Yan Nanchen have arrived.”
Duan Yuluo understood: “Alright, I see.” He then looked at Lu Xinghe: “Let’s go say hello to First Uncle and Second Uncle.”
“Okay.”
They walked side-by-side into the executive elevator.
Perhaps catching a scent he disliked, Duan Yuluo frowned. Just as the elevator was about to close, he couldn’t help but cover his mouth, his face turning pale. Seeing this, Lu Xinghe immediately pulled the bottle of lemon flower oil from his pocket and placed it under his nose.
“Wait for me.”
Just then, the closing elevator was stopped by a hand. Quickly, Duan Yifan, wearing an ice-blue casual suit, came into view. He removed the sunglasses from his nose and waved brightly at the two inside the elevator.
“Hi, I’m here for the meeting too.”
After saying hello, he noticed Duan Yuluo’s pale face. He walked over and patted his back out of concern: “What’s wrong, Little Nephew? Did you eat something bad? Your face is so white?”
Duan Yuluo was about to say he was fine, but as Duan Yifan came closer, he smelled the very sweet perfume on him. He was already starting to feel nauseated by sweet things, and now the scent made his stomach churn even more.
He took two steps away, standing behind Lu Xinghe, and covered his nose with his clothes to slightly lessen the urge to vomit.
Duan Yifan’s hand, holding the sunglasses, froze: “…?” Seeing Duan Yuluo avoiding him and even covering his nose, he immediately looked deeply wounded: “Seriously, Little Nephew, what did I do to you? Do I disgust you that much?”
Lu Xinghe saw that Duan Yuluo was very uncomfortable and punched Duan Yifan’s arm: “Can your perfume be any sweeter? Why did you spray so much? Are you trying to peacock?”
Duan Yifan retorted: “What, I can’t wear sweet perfume? It smells great, okay? You’re the peacock!” (He had specifically sprayed a lot because he knew Jiang Nianqiao was also attending the meeting.)
Lu Xinghe turned sideways, pulled Duan Yuluo forward, put a drop of lemon flower oil on his fingertip, and dabbed it on his forehead and under his nose: “Is that a bit better?”
Duan Yuluo took a deep breath. Smelling the lemon flower oil made him feel slightly more comfortable. He looked at Duan Yifan, knowing he didn’t mean any harm, but the perfume was too strong. He frowned:
“I’m docking your pay.”
Duan Yifan: “???”
He widened his eyes, utterly confused. Had he committed some heinous crime? Was it really so bad to wear sweet perfume? Couldn’t an Alpha be a “Sweetheart” too?!
