This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 75
Everything was proceeding in an orderly fashion.
The orders for the Guardian Chip instantly became a phenomenon in the industry, precisely because it was the first chip globally to achieve full compatibility between the human body and artificial intelligence.
Shortly after the Guardian Chip press conference, the global network publicly exposed all the illegal organizations that had attacked Galaxy’s network, including several countries. Their intentions were obvious. Consequently, these organizations’ networks were immediately invaded and seized. Due to this, the national networks of those organizations were interrupted for several days, and the press conference video content was played in an endless loop.
In particular, the close-up shots of Duan Yeluo were played hundreds of times during these few days.
The foreign internet exploded into chaos again because of this incident.
【Who is this hacker? The tech is too cool. Is it a technician from the Galaxy Group?】
【Looking at the method, isn’t that Code Name J? He loves to play this game.】
【So, has he switched the target of his fanboying?】
【Looks like it. I estimate Code Name J’s current idol is Duan Yeluo, otherwise, he wouldn’t come out to enforce order every time Duan Yeluo runs into trouble. And this time, he took care of several illegal organizations at once.】
【That kind of protective behavior looks a bit like he’s chasing his wife.】
【Maybe. After all, Galaxy’s CEO is a young, beautiful Omega, which makes him highly desirable to conquer. What Alpha wouldn’t want such a powerful Omega?】
【Didn’t the news break a few years ago that Prince Bennett of Country D gave up his title for him?】
【This only proves that this Omega has the charm to make people willingly become love-struck fools. If my son hadn’t already run away, I’d want to conquer him, too. It’s so exciting.】
These opinions came from networks all over the world, completely unaware that their every move was being watched by a certain jealous person who immediately deleted some of the unfavorable comments.
…
A black Maybach slowly drove into the parking lot of the most prosperous area in the city center, which also housed the world’s most expensive office building.
The parking fee here was nearly a hundred [currency unit] every two hours, extremely costly.
Duan Yeluo steered, reversing into the spot, and parked the car. He glanced at the thermos bag on the passenger seat. He had spent the morning learning Chinese cooking from the housekeeper, intending to give Lu Xinghe a surprise.
After all, Lu Xinghe had been constantly complaining about how exhausting his work was and how strict his Big Uncle’s company rules were, which made Duan Yeluo feel a little bad for him. Since he had no urgent matters today, he decided to visit Lu Xinghe.
At the same time, he was answering a phone call from his Big Uncle, Chu Beiheng.
“Mhm, Xingxing has handled everything. Don’t worry, Big Uncle.”
“I trust that kid. He has strong learning ability and is humble. If Galaxy needs anything, just ask him. He’ll grant any request you have.”
Duan Yeluo laughed. “I still have to thank Big Uncle for his investment. I should be thanking you.”
Chu Beiheng on the other end of the phone: “?”
Duan Yeluo turned off the engine, opened the car door, and walked to the passenger seat to retrieve the thermos bag. “If it weren’t for Big Uncle’s investment in Haven, Xingxing would hardly be where he is today. If Xingxing ever does anything wrong at work, just tell me, and I’ll talk to him when I get back.”
Chu Beiheng on the other end couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “How would I dare talk to him?”
Duan Yeluo thought his Big Uncle was just being polite. He took the thermos bag and entered the building, walked to the elevator, and pressed the button. The elevator was vacant, so he stepped in and pressed 30. “It’s fine. If there are any issues with his work attitude, you can tell me. I’ll have a good talk with him.”
Lu Xinghe had mentioned that their company occupied floors 30-45.
“Zai Zai (term of endearment), didn’t Xinghe tell you he is the major shareholder of Haven? I did invest, but we are co-shareholders, and he holds the highest stake. He is not my employee.”
Duan Yeluo paused momentarily.
The elevator was fast. The ’30’ lit up quickly, and with a ‘ding,’ the elevator door slowly opened, revealing the impressive name: Haven (避風港). He held his phone, re-examined the three Chinese characters for two seconds, and then replied simply.
“Okay, thank you, Big Uncle. I know now. I have something to take care of, so I’ll hang up first.”
Only after hearing his Big Uncle’s affirmative reply did he put down his phone and walk into the Haven office on this floor with the thermos box.
The Haven receptionist was a young, handsome man. He was a new employee and was busy processing the visitor records handed over by the previous receptionist when his peripheral vision caught a figure walking in. He looked up and saw a young man in a sapphire blue suit approaching.
Perhaps it was the person’s composed and calm demeanor, but the receptionist assumed he was a distinguished guest with an appointment.
“Hello, do you have an appointment?”
Duan Yeluo went straight to the point. “I’m looking for Lu Xinghe, Bennett Clemens.”
The young man sensed an indescribable pressure from the visitor’s faint expression. He maintained excellent professional courtesy and smiled. “Do you have an appointment with CEO Lu?”
Duan Yeluo smiled back upon hearing the title ‘CEO Lu.’ “No appointment. If his lover needs an appointment, I can make one now.”
He had intended to give Lu Xinghe a surprise, but he had received a surprise first.
Lu Xinghe truly never fails to impress him every single time.
The young man: “…And you are?”
Duan Yeluo replied, “Duan Yeluo.”
The young man immediately picked up the desk phone and called the top floor’s secretary office. Although he was a new employee and had never met CEO Lu’s spouse, the first page of the employee manual introduced CEO Lu’s partner, and he had memorized that name on his first day.
The top floor secretary’s office rushed to the CEO’s office the moment they received the call.
At that moment, in the CEO’s office, Lu Xinghe stood in front of his mini-golf course. His black shirt sleeves were half-rolled up, exposing his toned arms. He was leisurely enjoying a game with his golf club. A good shot went straight into the hole, and he complimented himself with satisfaction.
After just finishing dealing with some messy internet comments, he certainly deserved a little reward.
Knock, knock, knock—
An urgent knock sounded.
Lu Xinghe straightened up, frowning at the office door. He had told everyone to knock gently; why was the knock so hard? He wasn’t old enough to be hard of hearing. “Come in.”
Just as he was about to criticize the loud knocking, he saw the secretary walk in with a very serious expression.
“CEO Lu, Madam is here.”
Lu Xinghe’s hand, holding the golf club, froze. He met the secretary’s nervous gaze. “What?”
Secretary: “Your husband, Duan Yeluo, is here.”
Lu Xinghe’s expression changed. How was that possible? Why was Duan Yeluo suddenly here?!
He immediately put the golf club away. He did it so hastily that the club fell over. He quickly bent down to pick it up, then stood up and adjusted his shirt, buttoning it all the way to the top. His wife had told him to dress properly last time.
“Okay, I’ll go down to meet him now.” Just as he raised his head, that familiar figure came into view. His back went rigid.
Duan Yeluo stood outside the CEO’s office, having seen Lu Xinghe’s frantic scrambling to tidy up the golf club. He held the thermos bag and smiled knowingly at Lu Xinghe’s caught-off-guard expression.
“CEO Lu, are you very busy?”
Lu Xinghe: “…” To be honest, being called CEO Lu by his wife made his heart panic. After all, he had been complaining to Duan Yeluo about how exhausting his work was and that his mentor, Chu Beiheng, had given him a lot of work.
More importantly, he had never formally told Duan Yeluo his position at Haven.
It was a selfish desire to make his wife care for him and pay him more attention.
Duan Yeluo didn’t say anything, just nodded and smiled at the secretary who brought him in.
The secretary could only give his boss a look that said, ‘I can’t help you,’ and then closed the door, leaving the space for the couple.
The moment the door closed, Lu Xinghe leaned the golf club against the corner and walked towards Duan Yeluo. He had countless words prepared in his mind. He put his arm around Duan Yeluo’s shoulder, coaxing him in a low voice. “Baby, why did you suddenly come? I haven’t had anyone tidy up; the office is a bit messy.”
“If I hadn’t come, would you have wanted to play games with me like ‘Code Name J’ again? CEO Lu, you always have surprises for me,” Duan Yeluo said, placing the thermos bag on the office desk.
Lu Xinghe only glanced at the thermos bag on the table before making Duan Yeluo sit in his leather chair. He immediately started massaging his wife’s shoulders, afraid that Duan Yeluo wouldn’t let him cuddle tonight.
“Baby, I didn’t mean to hide it from you, it’s just…”
“Just that you thought it was fun?” Duan Yeluo looked at the huge oil painting on the large white wall directly opposite the desk. The painting showed the back of a tall young man in a white lab coat standing in a research institute, looking at operational data. It was him.
His eyes flickered.
“I just wanted you to feel sorry for me more, so you would pay me more attention. I like it when you do that,” Lu Xinghe said, afraid Duan Yeluo was angry. He pulled a small stool over, and the tall Alpha sat by the Omega’s feet, massaging his legs like a spoiled wife.
Then, he cautiously looked up and asked, “Wife, don’t be angry. I won’t play games anymore.”
Duan Yeluo looked down at Lu Xinghe, who was massaging his legs. Seeing his humble and obedient appearance, he knew why he was saying this. It was because Duan Yeluo had been extremely busy with the independent R&D of the Guardian Chip for the past two years. He almost just came home to shower and sleep, and had indeed given Lu Xinghe much less attention than before.
He smiled and rubbed Lu Xinghe’s head. “I’m not angry.”
If anything, it was a pleasant surprise and a source of pride that Lu Xinghe could establish such a large network company on his own. However, he also figured that given Lu Xinghe’s personality, how could he be content to work for someone else, especially when he had the capability?
Rather than anger, it was a welcome surprise, and even more so, pride.
And guilt.
He had indeed focused more on work than on Lu Xinghe over the past two years.
“Really?” Lu Xinghe questioned.
Duan Yeluo replied, “Mhm.” He then subtly nodded towards the thermos bag on the table. “I came to bring you food. Want to try it? I made it for you.”
Lu Xinghe suddenly stood up, his face sinking as he looked at the thermos bag like a formidable enemy. He looked back at Duan Yeluo. “You made it? The maid let you into the kitchen?”
“I just asked the maid to teach me a few dishes. Calm your expression,” Duan Yeluo said, pulling Lu Xinghe’s hand, feeling helpless at his exaggerated reaction. “Control your face. The kitchen is safe; it didn’t explode. I only scalded my hand a little.”
He extended his hand to Lu Xinghe.
Lu Xinghe instantly grabbed the hand Duan Yeluo offered. Seeing the slight burn and blister mark on his ring finger, although it didn’t look serious, he still frowned. “Don’t cook again. Food isn’t only fragrant if you make it. If you can eat with me every day, that’s the best food in the world.”
He finished by lowering his head to kiss the ring finger, his face contorted as he glared at the irritating blister mark.
Duan Yeluo was amused by Lu Xinghe’s expression. He stood up, took the thermos bag to the nearby coffee table. “Come here, taste what I made. Maybe you’ll be amazed.”
Lu Xinghe followed Duan Yeluo. He had to admit, he was filled with anticipation. He had expected to be criticized but instead, Duan Yeluo wasn’t angry and even brought him food. He was overjoyed.
Sure enough, his wife loved him the most.
So, he sat down full of expectation, opened the thermos bag, and prepared to eat.
There were four dishes in the exquisite lunch box. Every dish looked well-colored and appetizing.
“Try it,” Duan Yeluo handed the chopsticks to Lu Xinghe and watched him with his face supported by his hand, eager for his reaction, as this was his first attempt at cooking.
Lu Xinghe picked up the chopsticks and clamped a piece of sparerib covered in sauce. His expression twitched for a second as he ate it. He met Duan Yeluo’s expectant gaze, which was like a beautiful little cat waiting for a fish treat. He really didn’t have the heart to disappoint him.
“How is it? Is it good?” Duan Yeluo asked expectantly.
Lu Xinghe swallowed the sparerib, enduring the saltiness that threatened to overwhelm his taste buds. He gave him a thumbs-up. “Master Chef.”
Duan Yeluo’s face broke into a happy smile at Lu Xinghe’s reaction. “Really?”
Lu Xinghe quietly picked up the large glass box of rice in front of him and quickly wolfed down several big mouthfuls. After swallowing, he put the rice down.
He looked earnestly at Duan Yeluo, held his hand, gently massaged the burned spot, and said in a coaxing and deceptive tone, “Baby, let’s not cook next time. I can’t let your hand get hurt. Promise me, okay?”
Duan Yeluo: “…” What was with that overly dramatic tone? He seemed to guess something and frowned. “Is it not good?”
With that, he picked up a sparerib and put it in his mouth.
Lu Xinghe quickly reached out to stop him but failed, and he saw Duan Yeluo immediately spit the sparerib out.
“…”
Duan Yeluo was speechless at himself. He looked glumly at Lu Xinghe. “How could you praise something so awful? It’s too, too salty. My tongue is numb.”
Lu Xinghe suppressed a laugh and handed him water. “This is the first meal you’ve ever cooked for me. I have to praise it no matter what. Whether it’s good or not isn’t important; your effort is what matters.”
Duan Yeluo quickly gulped down the water, then frowned at the four dishes. He refused to believe all of them were bad. “Maybe just the spareribs were too salty. Try the others?”
So, Lu Xinghe seriously tasted the remaining three dishes.
He gave the same feedback as the first dish: It’s excellent. Let’s not make it next time.
Duan Yeluo tried them himself, his expression troubled. Sure enough, the flavors were all off; either too salty or bitter. This made him feel a little defeated. It was only cooking; he had learned it, and the process wasn’t difficult, so why did the taste not match the appearance?
He gave Lu Xinghe an awkward smile. “Baby, what I made is too gross. Let’s go out to eat.”
Lu Xinghe was amused by Duan Yeluo’s expression. He pinched his cheek. “It’s okay. Not knowing how to cook isn’t something to be ashamed of. If we can cook, we will; if we can’t, we’ll eat out. My Young CEO Duan’s hands are meant for scientific research. Stick to your specialty.”
Duan Yeluo felt deeply comforted by the flattery.
Lu Xinghe observed his wife’s subtle expression. Mhm. An Alpha can bend and stretch. As long as my wife isn’t angry, eating a few more mouthfuls of salty spareribs is a small price.
