This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 29
Night fell. The manor, located by the mountains and rivers, had far more stars in the night sky than the bustling city.
On a lounge chair on the second-floor open-air terrace, one person lay with his hands behind his head, while the other held a large piece of watermelon and stuffed his face.
“You were like this when I left, and you’re still like this. When are you going to get a clue?” Luo Yu Duan said, frowning at his brother, who was eating a chilled watermelon. “Are you sure you can eat something so cold right after differentiating?”
He then seemed to remember someone who had just differentiated and fell ill from eating cold food, a person who was so strong. He sat up and took the watermelon from his brother’s hand.
Duan Yu Luo was still holding the spoon, about to scoop up some watermelon, when he saw it being taken away. He stared blankly for a few seconds before reacting, a little annoyed. “Can’t I have a couple more bites?”
“No,” Luo Yu Duan said. He looked at the watermelon, which was already half-eaten, and placed it on a table where his brother couldn’t reach it. “An Omega’s reproductive organs are the most fragile. They are susceptible to cold and injury. You’ve just differentiated, which means you’ve just developed. If you don’t know how to protect yourself now, you’ll suffer later on.”
“How do you know that?” Duan Yu Luo put down his spoon and looked at his brother curiously. “Did you go and learn about Omega physiology for me?”
Luo Yu Duan’s expression became unnatural for a few seconds. His mind went through a hundred turns, and he managed to swallow the physiological knowledge about caring for a newly differentiated Omega that he had memorized and return to the most basic level of understanding. He said vaguely:
“…Yeah.”
“No way,” Duan Yu Luo said, lying back on the chair with his hands clasped over his stomach. “That’s not like you.”
His brother was never proactive. He had always been a very serious and proper brother. In Qiao Qiao’s words, their brother was an extremely tough guy, the kind that’s like titanium alloy—nothing could move him.
“What do you mean ‘that’s not like me’?” Luo Yu Duan was a little displeased hearing his brother say this.
Duan Yu Luo heard his brother’s tone and glanced at him. As a soldier, his aura was already strong. When he frowned, he looked really intimidating. “Brother, if you’re always so serious and frowning when you talk, who would dare to like you?” He sat up again, sitting on the side of the lounge chair, and reached out to poke his brother’s brow. “You’re only good for being secretly crushed on.”
As his words fell, something unspoken seemed to pass between them, and they both fell silent.
Luo Yu Duan looked at his brother.
Duan Yu Luo looked at his brother.
They both tacitly decided not to talk about this topic anymore. If they continued, it seemed like they might expose something.
What is a secret crush? Anyone who’s tasted it knows that the flavor is not ordinary, whether you’re a good boy or a serious one.
In the physics lab, one group had an unusually large number of people. The four Omegas in the class were all gathered around the young man in the middle.
“Yu Luo, can you teach me? Why is my data inaccurate?”
“Can you look at mine, too? Mine doesn’t seem to be working either.”
“Luo Luo, and mine too, can you help me?”
“Look at mine, too, look at mine!”
They were completely unaware that a certain Alpha on the opposite side had a face that was darker than the bottom of a shoe. He was holding a weight, his eyes staring resentfully at the surrounded Duan Yu Luo, as if he had been abandoned by the entire world.
Lu Xing He saw a girl touch Duan Yu Luo’s hair. He was so angry he wanted to throw the weight into the trash can. He cursed in English under his breath. He was so upset that his native language came out.
“Hey, Lu Xing He.”
A classmate next to him nudged his arm.
“What do you want? Can’t you see I’m busy?” Lu Xing He said impatiently, glancing at the person who touched him.
“I feel like Duan Yu Luo is even more popular with girls now that he’s an Omega?” The boy placed the object he needed to measure on the scale, talking as he looked at the data. “The girls in our class already liked Duan Yu Luo, but now that he’s an Omega, are they treating him like a sister?”
“Sister?” Lu Xing He scoffed. He then saw another girl touch Duan Yu Luo’s hair and happily say, “So good, so good.” “Like a sister, my butt.”
The boy glanced at Lu Xing He’s expression and, knowing what was up, held back a laugh. “That’s true. How could Duan Yu Luo be their sister? He’s your treasure.”
This sentence slightly soothed Lu Xing He’s mood.
Lu Xing He cleared his throat and looked at the boy next to him, giving him a thumbs-up and nodding to show that he agreed. He then stood up and walked over to Duan Yu Luo’s group.
Duan Yu Luo was a little helpless with the Omega girls in his class. He glanced at Lu Xing He across the room and saw that he didn’t seem to have any reaction. He was just sitting there doing his own experiment and didn’t seem to want to come and rescue him.
Out of politeness, he could only patiently explain the key points of the experiment to the girls.
“Luo Luo, can we go get something to eat together after class? I’ll treat you, okay?”
When Duan Yu Luo heard this, he felt a hand gently holding the back of his neck from behind. This area, which was still covered with an inhibitor patch, was sensitive. His shoulders shivered. He then felt a familiar chest press against his back, along with the scent of ebony gin pheromones that was always lingering in his nose.
“We already made plans. We have to stick together every day. Next time you want to ask Duan Yu Luo to do something, you have to ask me first.”
A certain person’s overbearing and belated rescue words came from above his head. He didn’t know what he was focusing on or what he was waiting for just now.
Duan Yu Luo looked up at Lu Xing He, who was standing behind him, and dodged his hand. “Who made plans with you?”
Lu Xing He met the little guy’s slightly sulky eyes. He knew that Duan Yu Luo wasn’t the type to get so close to other people. He had always been a good and polite kid, and the word ‘no’ rarely came out of his mouth.
That’s why he was angry. He didn’t know how to refuse.
The girls next to them knew they had a good relationship and deliberately teased them. “Luo Luo said he didn’t make plans with you, so he can make plans with us instead.”
The class bell rang, and the physics teacher in front reminded the students to clean up all the equipment on their desks before leaving.
“Yes, we did make plans.” Lu Xing He heard the bell. He maintained his position behind Duan Yu Luo, bent down, and put his arms through his shoulders. He started cleaning up the equipment on the desk regardless of what anyone thought, as fast as he could, afraid that if he were a second too slow, someone would steal Duan Yu Luo from him.
The arms wrapped around his shoulders, the chest pressed against his back, the subtle touch and embrace, and the Alpha pheromones that temporarily lingered on his body mingled with the body temperature that was so close to him.
All secrets could be hidden in his heart, but his heartbeat couldn’t hide his secrets.
He gripped the weight in his hand, his palms sweating.
“Okay, let’s go.” Lu Xing He finished cleaning up all the equipment on Duan Yu Luo’s desk. He picked up his handwritten test results and his cup, then pulled him out of the chair.
Duan Yu Luo: “…” His little thoughts were all scattered.
What a roughneck.
After leaving the lab, as expected, Lu Xing He complained the whole way.
“Duan Yu Luo, you just let them touch you? You just answered when they called you ‘good boy’?”
“I didn’t answer them.”
“You didn’t? You were silent, and that means you agreed.”
“That’s not right.”
“How is that not right?”
“You call me.”
“Call you what?”
“Call me ‘good boy’.”
Lu Xing He stopped in his tracks.
Duan Yu Luo saw this and walked in front of Lu Xing He. He leaned in a little and reached for his pocket.
Lu Xing He’s back went soft. He immediately grabbed his hand and looked at him in surprise. “…What are you doing?!” Why are you touching me randomly in this summer heat?
“Getting a lollipop,” Duan Yu Luo said. He put his hand into Lu Xing He’s pocket until he took out a lollipop. He didn’t look at Lu Xing He’s surprised face. He unwrapped the lollipop paper and then stood in front of him, putting the candy in his mouth. He put his hands in his pockets and said with the lollipop in his mouth:
“Call me.”
The young man in the white shirt was biting a lollipop. His hands in his pockets made him look a little rebellious, but his beautiful, well-behaved face toned it down. His light amber eyes were serious, and he was looking up at him with his chin slightly raised.
Lu Xing He felt his back sweating from being stared at. He licked his dry lips. “…Call you ‘good boy’?”
“Try it.”
Lu Xing He took a deep breath, suppressing the unexplained heat in his heart. He turned his face away and laughed. “What’s the point of—” Before he could finish, a wet lollipop was pressed against his lips. He looked down and met Duan Yu Luo’s slightly displeased eyes.
At that moment, it felt like a little kitten had stepped on his chest.
This guy gets angry and pokes me with a lollipop? He’s too cute.
“Call me,” Duan Yu Luo said, taking his lollipop away from the other person’s lips and putting it back in his mouth. He stared at him and said it again.
…Thump thump thump…
He ate the lollipop that had touched his lips and then put it back in his own mouth. That’s too much. Why would someone get angry like this?
Lu Xing He knew he couldn’t handle Duan Yu Luo like this. He also knew that this guy had his temper under complete control. Since he was a child, Duan Yu Luo would never have a big fight when he was angry; he would use small expressions and actions to show it.
For example, right now, he had already said the same thing three times, which meant he was angry.
He laughed. He licked the strawberry flavor that had touched his lips and gave in. “Good boy.”
“Mmm.”
Lu Xing He was stunned for a moment, his eyebrows twitching.
Duan Yu Luo looked at Lu Xing He. “That’s called a response. I don’t have a ‘silence means you agree’ kind of answer.” After saying that, he didn’t wait for him and walked directly toward the classroom.
Lu Xing He stood there. Two seconds later, his lips curved into a brilliant smile that could rival the sun. He saw Duan Yu Luo walking away and quickly followed. He saw him eating his candy. “Little darling, can I call you that from now on?”
Duan Yu Luo took the lollipop out of his mouth and glanced at him. “I was just giving an example.”
“I already called you that. If I call you a few more times, it’ll just become normal,” Lu Xing He said, lightly bumping his shoulder. He looked down and asked eagerly, “You let me call you that, so I’ll stop being angry.”
Duan Yu Luo smiled, not quite a smile. “You’re still angry? What are you angry about?”
“Just now, all those girls were crowding you. I couldn’t even sit in the same group with you. How could I not be angry? You didn’t even call me over.”
“You’re the one who didn’t come over. Now you’re blaming me for not calling you?”
“But you still let them touch your hair.”
“I didn’t know they would touch me. When there’s no ill will, I can’t just shout, right? It would be rude, especially since they’re girls.”
He finished speaking and noticed that Lu Xing He had stopped talking. He glanced at him sideways and met his resentful stare, just like a big dog who couldn’t get a bone.
He couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Lu Xing He saw him laughing and felt a little sour. He set his sights on the lollipop in his hand, lowering his head, wanting to take a quick bite.
Duan Yu Luo saw this and quickly put the lollipop back in his mouth, turned his head, and ran.
It was a hot summer day. Both of them were sweating when they ran back to the teaching building. They were in a good mood, but then they ran into someone they didn’t want to see at the corner.
At the classroom door, Jiang Yichen was holding a luxury gift bag. He had been waiting for a while. He straightened up when he saw Duan Yu Luo walking over, and a smile immediately appeared on his face.
“Luo Luo, I was waiting for you.”
Duan Yu Luo subconsciously glanced at Lu Xing He and saw that his face was darker than ever. He sighed inwardly.
He had made his decision.
In the hallway, students from nearby classrooms peeked their heads out to watch the drama.
In high school, it’s a time of youthful innocence and active hormones. Feelings run high, and in an international school with a free atmosphere, confessions are not uncommon. After all, a confession doesn’t necessarily mean a relationship.
“I carefully chose this gift for you,” Jiang Yichen said, walking up to Duan Yu Luo and completely ignoring the angry man behind him. He handed the gift to Duan Yu Luo. “I didn’t get a chance to give it to you last week. This is a gift for your differentiation ceremony.”
As he finished, a sour voice came from behind him.
“Oh, is that so? Duan Yu Luo didn’t invite you to his differentiation ceremony. I went.” Lu Xing He stood with his arms crossed behind Duan Yu Luo, his eyes staring resentfully at Jiang Yichen, his tone cold.
Duan Yu Luo reached behind him and patted Lu Xing He’s stomach, telling him to be quiet.
Jiang Yichen pretended not to hear and smiled at Duan Yu Luo. “I think you’ll really like it. You can open it and take a look later.”
Lu Xing He frowned, staring at the gift. He immediately grabbed Duan Yu Luo’s hand that was touching him, not letting him pull it back, afraid that he would accept the gift.
Duan Yu Luo realized he couldn’t pull his right hand away. Helplessly, he looked at Jiang Yichen’s serious expression. “Thank you for the gift. I appreciate it, but you should take it back.”
At that moment, the whispers from the classrooms watching the drama got a little louder.
Jiang Yichen’s smile froze. He pretended to be calm. “It’s just a small token of my appreciation. It doesn’t mean anything. Just think of it as a gift from your club president. You won’t even accept that?”
Duan Yu Luo felt the hand holding his get much tighter. The force conveyed nervousness and a sense of threat. He wondered if this guy had no confidence in him at all.
He thought for a moment and replied, “President, this is a gift you carefully prepared. I don’t think I can reciprocate the same feeling you put into preparing it. So, thank you for your kindness, but I can’t accept this gift.”
Jiang Yichen’s hand holding the gift froze in mid-air. This sentence blocked everything he was about to say.
He had thought that in front of so many people, Duan Yu Luo wouldn’t let him lose face.
But he had forgotten who Duan Yu Luo was. He had the pride of the Luo family flowing in his veins and would never give anyone a chance to control him.
“And thank you, President, for caring so much about me. Taking this opportunity, I also wanted to tell you that I’ve decided to quit the fencing club. I’ve already submitted my resignation to the coach. Thank you for your care before, President.” Duan Yu Luo politely bowed to Jiang Yichen.
He was thoughtful and polite, and it directly put an end to the possibility of a confession.
At least he gave the other person a way out.
Jiang Yichen clenched the gift in his hand. Since he had gone this far, he could only smile gracefully and reply, “Is that so? Okay, I understand. It’s fine as long as you’ve told the coach. You should prioritize yourself.”
Duan Yu Luo nodded. “Yes, I have a lot of classes recently, so I can’t attend club activities on time. I was worried I would hinder the team’s practice, so I had to handle it this way.”
Jiang Yichen looked at Lu Xing He, who was behind Duan Yu Luo. “What about you…?”
Lu Xing He raised an eyebrow. “Same.”
Jiang Yichen’s lips twitched. He understood. “Okay.”
“Then we won’t keep you, President. We need to go to class.” Duan Yu Luo pulled his sweaty hand away and walked into the classroom first.
Lu Xing He followed him in, but at the door, he held onto the door frame, turned his head to look at Jiang Yichen, and his eyebrows arched. “Bye-bye.”
Jiang Yichen gritted his teeth. “…” I don’t want your bye-bye.
The class bell rang, and the calculus teacher walked in on the last chime. He stood in front of the whiteboard, telling the students to open their textbooks and started the class with a passionate lecture.
The small class had no fixed seating. Two desks were pushed together, and students could sit wherever they wanted. The atmosphere was lively.
Duan Yu Luo was taking notes on his tablet. He caught a glimpse of Lu Xing He, who was resting his head on his hand and staring at him from the next desk. He was speechless from the staring. While the teacher had his back to the class, he poked Lu Xing He’s forehead with his pen.
“Don’t look at me. Look at the teacher.”
Lu Xing He grabbed the pen in Duan Yu Luo’s hand. He was still reeling from what had just happened. He curled his lips and whispered, “Duan Yu Luo, when did you tell the coach you were quitting fencing?”
“I was just saying that. But I’m going to tell him today.”
Lu Xing He bumped his leg with his and propped his head up, staring at him. “My sweetie, the way you rejected him just now was especially cool. That’s how you should reject people.”
Duan Yu Luo pulled his pen back, lowered his eyes, and continued taking notes. He heard the term “sweetie,” which was used so quickly, and he laughed. “Are you happy?” He drew a tiny little star next to his notes and colored it the brightest yellow, symbolizing a certain person’s mood today.
The brighter the star, the better the mood.
This star was inconspicuous, but it was present on every page of his notes.
It was a secret every one of his pens knew.
Lu Xing He buried his face in his arms, his laugh muffled. “Yeah, I’m happy.”
I’m so happy I could die.
