This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 28
By the koi pond in the manor’s backyard, the sun shone brightly on the elegant young man in a white shirt. He stood by the pond, his hand tracing circles in the air. The large, beautiful koi in the pond flocked to him, following the circle of his slender, jade-like hand.
The plump koi jumped out of the water and splashed back in, sending water flying onto the bank.
“Don’t get your clothes wet. Stand back a little.”
Duan Yu Luo was having a great time playing with the fish. His arm was grabbed by Lu Xing He and pulled back. He reluctantly lowered his hand and looked at him sideways. “Where’s my gift?”
He held out his palm to Lu Xing He.
Lu Xing He’s gaze shifted back to Duan Yu Luo’s face. “I haven’t finished the gift yet. I’ll give it to you later.” He pulled him back, creating more distance between him and the pond.
“Oh,” Duan Yu Luo replied flatly. He pulled his arm out of Lu Xing He’s hand. Feeling bored, he turned around and walked back to the small villa nearby.
Lu Xing He looked at his own hand. A lingering warmth remained. He didn’t know what he was thinking, but he lowered his hand and slowly followed behind Duan Yu Luo.
Duan Yu Luo glanced out of the corner of his eye at Lu Xing He, who was several steps behind him.
The Lu Xing He in his dream wasn’t like this at all.
He was so clingy.
The differentiation ceremony was very grand, signifying the family’s level of importance for Duan Yu Luo. Not only were friends and relatives invited, but also a number of media outlets.
“The Luo family’s second young master is an Omega, and he has a bit of Chairman Chu’s presence from back in the day.”
“That’s right. The eldest young master has already been handed over to the state, so the vast family business of Galaxy Group will fall on the shoulders of the second young master. He’s destined to be an Omega with a great deal of responsibility.”
“He will be another Omega who will conquer a powerful family. I wonder which Alpha will win the heart of Young Master Duan.”
Several reporters holding cameras walked and chatted, and they happened to run into the subject of their conversation, Duan Yu Luo. Walking beside him was the tall and handsome half-blood young man, Lu Xing He, the only son of Duke Clemence of D-Country, a well-known figure in the upper class. It was said that he was also given a royal title by the Queen of D-Country and was very much loved by his grandmother, the Queen.
Duan Yu Luo happened to hear what they said. He smiled and nodded politely to the media elders.
The media naturally didn’t dare to say anything in front of them. They nodded back politely and quickly walked away. Especially after seeing the Duke’s son behind him, they were afraid of saying something wrong and losing their jobs, or even worse, sparking a racial conflict.
Lu Xing He’s expression was blank. Even though he was wearing an expensive shirt befitting the occasion, his posture was as straight as a cold pine tree, giving off an unapproachable aura.
“Are you in a bad mood?” Duan Yu Luo also noticed that this guy didn’t seem very happy today.
Lu Xing He watched the few people until they were out of sight before turning his attention back to Duan Yu Luo. He laughed without warmth. “‘Conquer a powerful family’? ‘Win his heart’?” He looked at Duan Yu Luo. “What kind of joke are they making?”
Duan Yu Luo could hear the displeasure in Lu Xing He’s tone, but he didn’t point it out. He simply raised an eyebrow, ready to walk into the hall. “It might not be a joke.”
Just as he was about to step into the hall, an arm from behind pulled him back. Before he could turn around, his shoulders were held. He stumbled a few steps, his back hitting the white wall of the curving hallway. His eyes unexpectedly met a pair of deep, dark blue eyes that were so close.
As their gazes met, one high and one low, there was a moment of silence—a rare atmosphere.
“Duan Yu Luo, don’t joke about that.”
Duan Yu Luo noticed that Lu Xing He was silent for a moment before he asked this question. He felt the force on his shoulders, clearly conveying the other person’s emotions. “They were just kidding, and I was just kidding with you.”
Why so forceful?
“It’s not funny at all,” Lu Xing He said, his eyebrows furrowed.
Even though the tall young man’s expression was fierce, his tone was a little wronged.
A thought of the dream from last night flashed through Duan Yu Luo’s mind.
—Duan Yu Luo, you can’t be like this.
“Duan Yu Luo, you can’t be like this.”
The words fell, and almost at the same time, they were identical to the phrase from the dream last night. His mind and his heart felt like a dam had burst, and he couldn’t stop it.
Duan Yu Luo didn’t look away, so as not to seem guilty. He looked directly into Lu Xing He’s eyes. “Can’t be like what?”
I didn’t ask last night in the dream, but I can ask today, right?
Lu Xing He’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He looked down at the fair-skinned, red-lipped Duan Yu Luo. He pursed his dry lips and, after a long silence, said, “No early relationships.”
“Tsk.”
Just then, a light chuckle came from behind them.
They both turned their heads in unison, only to see Luo Yu Duan, who had been specially recruited into the special forces two years ago, had returned.
Perhaps it was due to his daily high-intensity training, his height was superior to his peers. His skin was taut and tanned, and his buzz cut made his excellent features look sharp and defined. His brow bones exuded a sense of righteousness. Even in a formal suit, he gave off the intimidating aura of a camouflage uniform, looking incredibly heroic.
“Lu Xing He, you marked my brother?”
Duan Yu Luo was a little surprised to see his twin brother had returned. “Pig, how did you come back? Did the army give you leave?”
He had just finished speaking when his brother pressed down on his head, making him wince.
“Call me ‘brother.’ I exchanged a first-class merit for one day of leave. I had to come back for your differentiation ceremony.” His brother, Luo Yu Duan, took his hand off him and looked at Lu Xing He, who was behind his brother. His expression was cold, and his hands were in his pockets. His eyes held a certain pressure. “Lu Xing He, how dare you?”
The two Alphas, of similar height, faced off. Their auras were equally matched, and neither showed any sign of backing down.
Lu Xing He saw Duan Yu Luo frowning and rubbing his head. He knew Luo Yu Duan had pressed on him too hard, so he reached out to rub his head for him. He then stepped in front of Duan Yu Luo and faced Luo Yu Duan’s displeasure. “This matter was indeed my fault. I apologize.”
“Lu Xing He.” Duan Yu Luo heard Lu Xing He apologize and frowned, pulling on him. “Why are you apologizing?”
“He should apologize, but not to me or our family, but to you,” Luo Yu Duan said directly. “This is not the era when a sudden differentiation requires a temporary mark. There are clearly better solutions, but you chose the most inappropriate one. Little one, you have to know that if you don’t know the other person’s compatibility with you, it’s very easy to—”
“I don’t think it was the most inappropriate,” Duan Yu Luo interrupted his brother’s words directly, his expression serious. “I think asking Lu Xing He for a temporary mark at that time was the most correct action.”
His brother, Luo Yu Duan, frowned. He could hear the protectiveness in his brother’s tone. He seemed to remember something. “Little one, you have to understand that a mark isn’t something you can do casually just because you have a good relationship with him. Even a temporary mark, if the compatibility is not enough, can hurt you. Not only you, but he will also feel uncomfortable.”
“But I don’t feel uncomfortable,” Duan Yu Luo said, pulling Lu Xing He behind him and protecting him. He didn’t want his best friend to be criticized again and again because of his own decision. “Brother, I know a temporary mark isn’t the most correct choice, but when I did that, I decided to be responsible for my own actions and for Lu Xing He.”
His brother, Luo Yu Duan: “…He marked you. What are you responsible for? You have to remember that you’re an Omega now.”
“He bit me, yes, but I told him to. You’ll make him sad if you keep criticizing him,” Duan Yu Luo said. “It’s true that I’m an Omega now, but I can still think for myself, and I know what I might face in the future.”
The bright afternoon sun shone into the hallway, casting shadows on the ground. The shadow of the young man’s elegant figure and the hand protecting the person behind him showed a clear sense of protectiveness.
“So don’t criticize him. I know what I’m doing.”
Lu Xing He stared at the side of Duan Yu Luo’s face. He couldn’t look away for a long time. Just like in his dream last night, his heart was skipping a beat.
Luo Yu Duan looked at the two standing together. He thought to himself, I didn’t have to worry about this when they were little. Is it even useful to worry now? His younger brother had never listened to him since they were young, and this outsider, Lu Xing He, truly had limitless charm.
He let out a cold laugh. “Duan Yu Luo, you better know what you’re doing. Lu Xing He, you better know what you’re doing, too.”
Duan Yu Luo could hear the sternness in his brother’s tone. He glanced at his brother’s expression and felt a little intimidated, so he walked up to him and tried to ease the tension with a little brotherly affection. He reached out and grabbed his arm. “Brother, I definitely know what I’m doing.”
Lu Xing He quickly nodded. “Yes, Big Brother. I know what I’m doing too.”
Luo Yu Duan immediately gave Lu Xing He a warning look. He raised his elbow. “Get lost! Who’s your ‘big brother’?”
Lu Xing He: “…” Damn, my mouth was too fast.
The banquet began. Duan Yu Luo followed his great-grandfather and greeted all the senior executives of the company. He also exchanged a few pleasantries with the uncles and elders from other families. It was all for the sake of laying the foundation for his future. No matter how boring he found it, he had to endure.
“Yu Luo, you are now about the same age as your great-grandfather when he first began to build the Galaxy Group. Now that Yu Duan has been handed over to the country, you must lead the way with your younger brothers and sisters.”
“Yes, I will work hard. Don’t worry, uncles and elders.”
Duan Yu Luo listened to the conversations between the elders and his great-grandfather, responding from time to time. He glanced at Lu Xing He, who was standing not far away with his brother, afraid that the two would get into a conflict, especially since they had never gotten along since they were kids.
But thankfully, they were just standing there. The most they did was look like two gods of darkness, giving off an aura that made people not want to approach them. The atmosphere looked like they owed each other five million and couldn’t agree on a repayment plan.
“Little one, go call your brother over,” his great-grandfather said.
Duan Yu Luo heard this and felt a sense of relief. He smiled. “Okay, Grandpa,” and quickly walked over to where they were standing.
Perhaps Lu Xing He and his brother were facing sideways and hadn’t seen him. As he got closer, he faintly heard a phrase: “at least twenty years old.” He was a little curious.
“What’s at least twenty years old?”
Lu Xing He froze. He turned his head and looked at the approaching Duan Yu Luo. “Why did you come over?”
Duan Yu Luo said to his brother, Luo Yu Duan, “Great-Grandpa is calling you.”
Luo Yu Duan gave Lu Xing He a meaningful look, grunted, and walked towards the family elders not far away.
“What were you and my brother talking about just now?”
Lu Xing He picked up a soda from a nearby table and drank it all in one gulp. He finished it before he spoke. “Nothing much.”
“Did he scold you again?”
“Not really.”
“I just heard something about ‘at least twenty years old’,” Duan Yu Luo said, walking to the buffet area. He grabbed a plate, wanting to get a pastry.
“That one has eggs. You can’t eat it,” Lu Xing He said, his hand quickly grabbing Duan Yu Luo’s hand that was reaching for the pastry. He handed him a fruit mousse instead. “If you want something sweet, eat this mousse. It doesn’t have any eggs in it.”
Just as he finished speaking, he noticed Duan Yu Luo was staring at him. He felt his throat go dry.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Duan Yu Luo didn’t say anything. He put a few fruit mousses on his plate and walked out.
Lu Xing He saw this and followed.
The sky was painted with an orange-red glow, like a sunset painting. The hot summer evening breeze still blew, entering the white, arched corridor and enveloping the two young men who were leaning against the wall, eating fruit mousse.
“What flavor is yours?”
“Strawberry. Want a taste?”
“Yes.”
Lu Xing He scooped a large spoonful of mousse from his cup and fed it to Duan Yu Luo, watching his reaction. “Is it good?”
“It’s good,” Duan Yu Luo said, tasting the creamy sweetness and nodding with satisfaction. He swallowed the strawberry mousse in his mouth and held his own up to Lu Xing He. “Do you want to taste mine?”
“What flavor is yours?”
Duan Yu Luo’s eyes curved into a smile. “Rose-flavored. Want to try it?”
Lu Xing He met his smiling gaze. The hand holding his fork froze. It was such a casual sentence.
But…
…his heart was a chaotic mess.
It was too much.
