This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 14
“Little one, is kindergarten in America fun?”
“Just okay, I guess.”
“Why just okay?”
“Because you’re not here, it’s just okay.”
“Do you miss me?”
“Of course I miss you! I miss you so, so much! I wish you could have come here for kindergarten with me.”
On a Saturday evening, the beautiful garden was brightly lit. Duan Yu Luo was lying on a sun lounger under an umbrella, his chubby little feet dangling in the air, holding a phone bigger than his face, and chatting with his good friend.
He sighed glumly and shook his head like a little old man from northeastern China. “Xing Xing, it’s so hard without our daily transformations.”
They had been apart for two months. Because of the time difference, they could only video call on weekends. His dads also didn’t let him have electronic devices, so he had to try his best to be a good boy just so he could video call Lu Xing He.
“It’s okay. I can come over to visit you.”
On the other end of the video call, Lu Xing He had just finished swimming. With his wet hair, he sat on the poolside. At only five years old, his mixed-race features already showed a superior profile, especially his deep blue eyes. There’s no telling how many hearts he would capture when he grew up.
He held his phone, looking at the gloomy Duan Yu Luo on the screen, who was propping his head with his little hand and pouting. “Once I win my competition and get first place, I can tell my dad that I want to come visit you.”
Duan Yu Luo’s eyes lit up. “Really? You can come and visit me?”
“Yes.” Lu Xing He nodded seriously. “Did you make any good friends over there?”
“You’re my best friend! No one can ever be better than you!” Duan Yu Luo said when Lu Xing He asked that. He held up his little chicken-claw hand and pointed at the screen, his expression serious. “Did you make new friends?”
Lu Xing He smiled at Duan Yu Luo’s angry look and shook his head. “No, you’re my best friend.”
“That’s right then.” Duan Yu Luo tilted his head and thought for a moment. Then he remembered something that made him feel especially wronged. “Let me tell you, because my brother and I are new students, there’s this girl who bullies me and my brother. She’s so mean, and guess what? She’s my cousin.”
Lu Xing He’s body stiffened with tension. “How did she bully you? Did she hit you?”
“When we were playing with toy cars, she hit my little ‘thingy’ and it still hurts.” Duan Yu Luo got angry just thinking about it. He sat up and turned the phone to his pants, but realized it was hard to see. He was about to pull down his pants to show Lu Xing He.
His other dad, who was standing nearby, quickly stopped him. “Little one, we don’t have to be so open. Just say it. Just say it.”
On the other end, Lu Xing He’s eyes widened. His little friend’s “thingy” was hit? How could that happen? It must have hurt a lot!
So he quickly stood up from the poolside and waved and shouted to the second floor, “Dad! Clemens! I need to go to America now to see the little one. Hurry and get the plane ready! His little ‘thingy’ got hit! It’s an emergency!”
Clemens, who was having an online meeting with all the company’s global branches in his study on the second floor, heard the words “little ‘thingy'” from downstairs. His hand twitched. He slowly turned his chair and looked down at his son by the pool, with an indescribable expression on his face.
Lu Xing He saw his dad looking at him and waved again. “Dad, did you hear me?”
A vein throbbed in Clemens’s forehead. “The whole world heard you.”
The night fell, and the plane soared through the clouds, about to reach America on the other side of the ocean, all to check on his good friend’s little “thingy.”
It was a truly sincere display of care, and an impressive one at that.
There was a nearly twelve-hour time difference between China and the U.S. Little Duan Yu Luo was already in a deep sleep in the early hours of the morning in the U.S., completely unaware that his beloved friend was about to arrive.
All to check on his little “thingy.”
In the morning, the sun lazily streamed into the room. A small bird flew onto the balcony, flapping its wings and singing two songs. On the bed by the French window, the blanket was slightly raised, revealing a sleeping boy with his backside sticking up.
Next to the bed sat a handsome, mixed-race boy, resting his face in his hands, staring intently and with great interest at his sleeping friend. Because he was sleeping on his stomach, his cheeks were chubby against the pillow, his long, curved eyelashes were obediently resting on his eyelids, and there was a suspicious wet spot near his mouth. He would occasionally smack his lips in his sleep, looking absolutely adorable.
He was filled with anticipation for the moment his friend would open his eyes.
Chirp, chirp!
The little bird started tapping on the window again, waking Duan Yu Luo from his sweet dream.
“…Ugh, these birds are so annoying,” Duan Yu Luo mumbled in a sweet, childish voice, his eyes half-open with sleepiness.
In the next second, his expression froze.
He stared blankly at Lu Xing He, who was sitting by the bed. His sleepiness instantly vanished. He thought he was dreaming and quickly buried his face in the pillow, then lifted his head with a jolt, blinking his eyes. He still couldn’t believe it. He squatted on the bed and put his face on the pillow again, then quickly lifted his head once more.
Lu Xing He was still sitting there, watching him.
It didn’t seem like a dream.
“Is it really my Xing Xing?” Duan Yu Luo quickly wiped his drool, excitedly scrambled up, and hugged Lu Xing He. As he hugged him, he felt a sense of reality. “It really is you! How did you get here?”
Lu Xing He’s favorite little friend jumped into his arms, almost knocking him over, but he held on tight. The feeling of being hugged so fully instantly filled the emptiness he had felt from not seeing Duan Yu Luo for two months.
“It’s really me. I came to see you.”
“Did you come to see my little ‘thingy’?”
Lu Xing He saw Duan Yu Luo let go of him. He looked up at Duan Yu Luo. “Yeah. I was so worried about you, so I asked my dad to fly me over. Wasn’t that fast?”
Duan Yu Luo heard this and immediately stood up. He pulled down his pajama pants, taking them off completely, revealing his Ultraman underwear and his chubby little legs. He was very generous and was ready to show his injured little “thingy” to his good friend.
After all, he came all the way from so far away to check on him, so he had to show him.
Lu Xing He was speechless. He didn’t expect Duan Yu Luo to take his pants off right away. Seeing him in just his underwear, he quickly stood up and grabbed his pant leg. “You can’t take your pants off just anywhere.”
“Huh?” Duan Yu Luo, who was bent over with his butt sticking out, looked up in confusion when he heard Lu Xing He say that. He was now eye-level with Lu Xing He’s standing height. “Didn’t you come to see my little ‘thingy’? It’s hurt.”
“We can’t just show our private parts to anyone,” Lu Xing He said, as if he had just discovered something. His good friend was always like this and didn’t know how to protect himself. He used to run around in just his underwear. He then helped Duan Yu Luo pull his pants back up.
“I’m not showing it to just anyone.” Duan Yu Luo, seeing that Lu Xing He had helped him put his pants back on, leaned in and whispered in his ear, “I’m only showing it to you. You’re my good friend, so you can look.”
Lu Xing He thought about this explanation for a few seconds, then nodded seriously. “Only I can. No one else can.”
His other dad and Clemens were about to walk in, but they heard this and fell silent, exchanging glances.
“Mr. Duan, your son is quite open-minded.”
His other dad smiled wryly. “Mr. Clemens, your son has a double standard.”
The two children were still young, so they naturally didn’t think anything of it. They were just teasing each other. The bond between these two children was indeed better than they had imagined.
The home in America was in the suburbs. The villa wasn’t small. The garden and lawn had a great view and were a paradise for children to play in.
To welcome Lu Xing He and his family, they had prepared an outdoor barbecue and a small family party, turning it into a little vacation together.
“Yeah, I told you, my cousin’s name is Jiang Nianqiao, and she’s so mean. She’s always bullying me.”
“Is she the one who hit you? Her name is Jiang Nianqiao?”
“Yep! She’s my second uncle’s child.”
“Does she usually bully you?”
“Now that she knows I’m her older brother, she doesn’t dare.”
“If she bullies you again, just tell me.”
“Will you beat her up?”
“I can’t hit a girl. I’ll just talk to her nicely and tell her not to bully you.”
In the garden, the two little boys were sitting on a swing, whispering to each other. From a distance, they looked like a picture of two childhood friends. Now that they had finally met again, they were inseparable, sticking together every second.
Inside the living room, through the glass French doors, his dad, Luo Songran, and Lu Xing He’s mother, Lu Qing, were discussing an art exhibition.
In front of the barbecue grill, his brother, Luo Yu Duan, was grilling with his other dad and Uncle Clemens. Although he was only five, his height was inherited from his dad’s tall genes. He stood on a small stool and could easily help with the grilling.
Clemens noticed that the older twin was so calm and didn’t like to play with the other two. He couldn’t help but ask, “Little Yu Luo, why don’t you like to play with them?”
His brother, Luo Yu Duan, thought about it when Uncle Clemens asked. He wasn’t sure if he should say it, but he finally said, “I’m thinking.”
Clemens couldn’t help but smile. “Is it because Lu Xing He is too clingy with the little one? So you don’t like to play with him?”
His brother, Luo Yu Duan, shook his head.
“Then why?”
“I’m afraid if I play with them, people will think I know them.”
His other dad and Clemens were confused.
His brother, Luo Yu Duan, continued, “They always transform out of nowhere. It’s so awkward for me to stand next to them. I don’t really like Ultraman.”
Clemens smiled and asked, “So what do you like, Yu Duan?”
“I like Peppa Pig.” His brother, Luo Yu Duan, said this and lowered his head, his ears turning red. He smiled shyly.
The two dads couldn’t help but laugh. Both of the twins had their own kind of cuteness.
The garden was filled with a warm and happy atmosphere.
Just then, two handsome men walked in, holding hands with a beautiful little girl in a princess dress.
Duan Yu Luo, who was happily swinging on the swing, saw who it was and was so scared he hugged Lu Xing He. He whispered, “Xing Xing, she’s here!”
The little girl saw Duan Yu Luo right away and smiled brightly, running toward him. “Hi, my cute brother~”
Lu Xing He saw that Duan Yu Luo was scared and hugged him, instinctively protecting him. Then he saw the little girl run up to them and reach out to grab Duan Yu Luo’s clothes. He asked her in English with a serious face, “Who are you?”
“She’s Jiang Nianqiao,” Duan Yu Luo whispered, peeking his head out from his friend’s embrace. “Don’t mess with her. She’s really mean. I don’t want to play with her.”
“My name is Charlotte, but you can call me Jiang Nianqiao.” Jiang Nianqiao answered Lu Xing He in fluent English. Since she was a child who grew up abroad, she was a little unhappy to see Duan Yu Luo hiding in the arms of this mixed-race boy. “Who are you?”
This tone clearly made Lu Xing He’s protective instincts for Duan Yu Luo go into overdrive. He stood up, shielding Duan Yu Luo behind him. “My name is Bennett.”
Jiang Nianqiao saw Duan Yu Luo hiding behind him and pouted unhappily. “Jacob, why are you hiding behind him?”
“Jacob” was Duan Yu Luo’s English name.
Duan Yu Luo hid behind Lu Xing He like a little ostrich. He was completely shielded by Lu Xing He’s small body. He carefully peeked his head out and said to Jiang Nianqiao, “I’m afraid you’ll hit my little ‘thingy’ again. I can’t live without my little ‘thingy’.”
“I won’t!” Jiang Nianqiao reached out to pull Duan Yu Luo, but her hand was blocked.
Lu Xing He blocked Jiang Nianqiao’s hand. His expression was serious, and with his height, he looked quite intimidating when he didn’t smile. “You can’t force someone to do something they don’t want to do. The little one doesn’t want to play with you.”
Jiang Nianqiao pulled her hand back, huffed, and looked like a little princess. “I’m his cousin. Why wouldn’t he want to play with me? And who are you?”
Lu Xing He’s gaze was serious. “I’m his Ultraman. If you bully him, I have to protect him.”
Duan Yu Luo’s eyes lit up when he heard this. He looked at Lu Xing He with worship. He wasn’t scared of Jiang Nianqiao anymore. He jumped out and put his hands on his hips. “That’s right! I have Ultraman to protect me! I’m not afraid of you! You’ll never hurt my little ‘thingy’ again!”
His brother, Luo Yu Duan, quietly grilled skewers, keeping his head down. “…”
He pretended not to know them and just focused on grilling.
Peppa Pig is so much cuter.
