They Are Archenemies, But They Have A Child - Chapter 101
Chapter 101: Brother Against Brother
Yun Qingwu looked at Leng Licí: “For the time being, why don’t we let Little Dāo stay on Mount You Su? She can use this opportunity to learn other things with Hóng Suí and the others.”
Leng Licí: “Fine.”
Yun Qingwu thought of something else and added, “In a moment, you should first cast a stealth spell. Once we reach the Heavenly Realm, you can disguise yourself as Hóng Yuān. This way, you can follow me openly.”
Having secured the promise, Leng Licí was unusually compliant. “Alright.”
When Yún Chuān returned, the two had finished eating. The three set off for the Heavenly Realm.
Upon arriving at the Heavenly Realm, Yún Chuān returned to the Green Wood Residence on his own, while Leng Licí followed Yun Qingwu to the Clear Cloud Palace.
Inside the Clear Cloud Palace, Hóng Yuān was eagerly waiting. As soon as he finally saw Yun Qingwu return, he rushed over with tears in his eyes. “Your Highness! I heard that accursed Demon Fox abducted you! Hóng Yuān has been worrying day and night. Look, my skin has even gotten rougher! Fortunately, you weren’t—Aiya!”
Hóng Yuān’s chattering abruptly stopped. He collapsed onto the ground with a soft pū sound.
Leng Licí withdrew his hand and said coldly, “Noisy.”
Yun Qingwu: “…”
He looked at Hóng Yuān on the ground, feeling an inner sense of apology. He crouched down and waved his right hand. The person on the ground immediately transformed into a blue qing luan bird.
Yun Qingwu collected Hóng Yuān into his tower, looking at Leng Licí with disapproval. “A-Cí, you promised me not to act rashly.”
Leng Licí scoffed (“Qī”) and strode into the main hall with a swagger.
However, no sooner had the two entered the room than the door was knocked on.
Yún Fēiyǔ: “Cousin, Cousin, are you there?”
Yun Qingwu steadied himself, looked at Leng Licí, and signaled him to proceed with the plan.
Leng Licí reluctantly formed a hand seal, transforming into Hóng Yuān’s likeness.
Only then did Yun Qingwu walk toward the door. “Cousin, why have you come?”
The Bed God peeked in with a smile, holding up a flask of wine. “Me too!”
Yun Qingwu calmly ushered the two inside. While they walked ahead, he glanced at Leng Licí, signaling him to leave first.
Leng Licí frowned, not moving immediately.
Yún Fēiyǔ spotted “Hóng Yuān” standing to the side right away. He walked over familiarly, reaching out to pinch his cheek. “Little Hóng Yuān, go pour me a pot of tea.”
Leng Licí’s face was sullen. He stared at Yún Fēiyǔ’s approaching hand, clenching and unclenching his fingers.
Yun Qingwu’s eyes narrowed. He took three quick steps forward and spun Yún Fēiyǔ’s hand behind his back. “Cousin, this way, please.”
Yún Fēiyǔ let out an “Aī” of confusion. “What’s wrong? Is Hóng Yuān in a bad mood today?”
Yun Qingwu went along with it. “Yes. You’re always touching him, and he’s had an opinion about it for a long time.”
Yún Fēiyǔ followed him to the couch and sat down, tutting. “Is that so? I thought he enjoyed it every time. Fine, fine, no need to pinch his face, but the tea still needs to be served.”
He waved his hand at Leng Licí again. “Still standing there stunned? Are you neglecting your duties just because you’re in a bad mood?”
Leng Licí’s eyes darkened, then he looked at Yun Qingwu.
Yun Qingwu used their contract to transmit his voice: “It’s in the room down the hall, turn right.”
Leng Licí pursed his lips and walked out with a dark expression.
Yun Qingwu let out a sigh of relief and ushered the Bed God to sit down.
Yún Fēiyǔ was restless even while sitting. He looked left and right. “Hey, where’s your daughter?”
The Bed God suddenly sat up straight, giving Yún Fēiyǔ meaningful looks. How could he forget such an important detail? Yún Fēiyǔ still didn’t know about Yun Qingwu’s memory loss!
Yún Fēiyǔ, however, failed to receive the information. “What? Sent her back? It seems you’ve realized the error of your ways. I think it’s for the best. No matter how charming the mother of the child is, she’s still a mortal. Why should we lower ourselves to that level?”
The Bed God immediately interrupted. “The God Lord of White Light is talking about his dream! In his dream, you had a child with a mortal!”
Yún Fēiyǔ frowned. “I—”
The Bed God winked fiercely, and Yún Fēiyǔ finally stopped himself in time.
Yun Qingwu pretended to be unaware but couldn’t help following the thread. “Lowering yourself?”
Yún Fēiyǔ replied without hesitation. “Our relationship with mortals is one of management and being managed. We are the masters, they are the subordinates. Isn’t that lowering ourselves? Of course, lowering ourselves to that level is still slightly better than mixing with demons and degrading ourselves. But either way, this matter of affection is a lower emotion. Since our ancestors explicitly forbade it, there must be a reason—”
Before he could finish, a pēng sound echoed. A scalding teapot was thrown down in front of Yún Fēiyǔ. A few drops of hot tea splashed onto Yún Fēiyǔ’s face.
“Ah!” Yún Fēiyǔ quickly wiped his face, looking disgruntledly at “Hóng Yuān.” “Little Hóng Yuān, why are you so clumsy today! Are you trying to scald me to death?”
Leng Licí gave him a cold look. “Did you die?”
Yún Fēiyǔ: “…”
This sudden change instantly cleared some of the congestion in Yun Qingwu’s heart. He couldn’t help but let the corner of his mouth rise slightly.
“Oh, Cousin, you’re even laughing! I think you’ve indulged him too much, letting this personal guard become so lawless!” Yún Fēiyǔ said, leaning over to playfully hit him. However, before his hand could touch Yun Qingwu, it was intercepted by Leng Licí halfway.
Yún Fēiyǔ was annoyed. “Now you remember you’re a personal guard? Go, go, go, bring me a plate of rose pastries.”
Leng Licí curled his fingers, rubbing his thumb hard against his index finger’s pad before turning and walking out.
Yun Qingwu transmitted his voice: “A-Cí, just hold on a little longer.”
The answer was the loud slam of the door closing.
Yún Fēiyǔ looked toward the door. “It’s been a while, and this Hóng Yuān’s temper has grown! Qingwu, you need to teach him a lesson.”
Yun Qingwu picked up the teapot and poured a cup of tea for both the Bed God and Yún Fēiyǔ. “Hóng Yuān and I have no superior/subordinate relationship. Just as mortals and demons are not inherently inferior or superior to us.”
Upon hearing this, the Bed God looked at Yun Qingwu suspiciously. He tested him. “You used to despise demons extremely. This doesn’t sound like something you would say.”
Yun Qingwu offered a simple excuse. “This is a new realization I had during my time in seclusion.”
The Bed God said “Oh,” and reluctantly accepted the explanation.
Yún Fēiyǔ took a sip of tea and didn’t immediately refute. “Tell me more.”
Yun Qingwu: “Our cultivation relies on the incense smoke of the mortal realm, so we are in a mutually dependent relationship. And if demons can follow the right path, they can be the same as us.”
Yún Fēiyǔ nodded. “Your perspective on mortals is somewhat interesting. I’ll think about it when I go back. But I can’t agree with you about demons. They commit many wicked acts. How can they be compared to us? Don’t forget that Leng Licí has opposed you many times. You haven’t been beaten into submission by him, have you?”
Hearing this, the cold sweat that had just subsided on the Bed God immediately returned. He cautiously watched Yun Qingwu’s reaction, afraid he might remember something because of it.
Bed God: “How is that possible! Just yesterday, Qingwu was even preparing a simulated exercise on how to subdue that Demon Fox! Right, Qingwu?”
Yun Qingwu saw how hard the Bed God was struggling to conceal the truth and cooperated by nodding.
Yún Fēiyǔ set down his teacup and laughed. “There you have it. Speaking of which, that Leng Licí is truly difficult to deal with. This endless back-and-forth between you two, when will it end? Tell you what, the next time you go beat him up, call me! We brothers will join forces and utterly defeat him!”
The room door was forcefully pushed open again. Leng Licí entered, carrying a plate of pastries, and heard the comment clearly.
Yun Qingwu watched Leng Licí approach, slightly fearing that the plate of pastries would be launched directly into Yún Fēiyǔ’s face, resulting in a genuine brother-against-brother clash.
He said calmly, “No need. I will handle my affairs with him myself.”
Yún Fēiyǔ waved his hand grandly. “Hǎiyà, don’t be polite.”
Yun Qingwu stared at Yún Fēiyǔ, glancing at Leng Licí out of the corner of his eye. I’m not being polite. I’m doing this for your sake, Cousin.
